Chapter 1.

Authors Note: Okay! So here's the first chapter. So... I hope you enjoy it?!?!? Yes? No? Maybe so? Anyway, hehe!

The day, was dark as was everyday since the rise of Sauron, and it was quiet. No birds sang their usual morning songs, no squirrels ran amongst the darkened trees. No deers grazed peacefully in the meadows. But, a sound of two pairs of boots broke the silence of the forest. The slopping sounds of the heavy, worn boots smacked down into the thick layer of mud that covered the earth. echoing through the deathly quiet forest. Two figures walked in complete, albeit, tense silence. One was a tall dark haired man, the strands hanging like a dark mop on his broad shoulders. Over his shoulder, was slung a very old, brown crossbow, and he almost swaggered as he walked. The other, was a girl. Long read hair reached her mid back, and it was tangled and unkept. However, despite her disarrayed looks, she had a air of beauty about her. The Elleth was raggedly clad in forest greens and browns, walking more quietly than the heavy footed man. She was thin and graceful, and held a soft glow to her as any elf would. Her fists clenched at her sides, and her jaw was tightened in a firm line as she glared at the larger man.

A short time later, the two entered a small cave. They came walking cautiously in, and seeing the small group of five people around a dying, pathetic fire, they relaxed. They were all huddled in on themselves, trying to reserve the little warmth they had.

"Where's Daniel?" A young silver haired elf asked, his blue eyes watched the movements of the two in the dim light.

"He got left behind." The burly man answered cockily as he strode over to the fire.

"Left behind, Shay? Oh really, cause that certainly is not what I saw. You left, if you would have stayed we both could have saved him!" The red haired warrior snapped, clearly not feared by the taller, well muscled man who stood before her.

"It would do you better to keep your pathetic mouth shut, you Orc spawn!" Shay snapped, stepping angrily in front of the elleth. She held his gaze firmly, and didn't budge, but held her fair head higher on her slim shoulders.

"Shay, Tauriel. Stop." A man stood up from where he was seated by the fire, raising a cautious hand in warning. Shay didn't listen and began to press his finger against the trigger of his crossbow. The sandy, blonde haired man stepped forward pushing the two apart. Tauriel stepped back hesitantly, but Shay pressed harder against the man's hand.

"What? You afraid I'll sick a bolt in her head? Well, she's a woman. She should keep her lousy mouth shut if she didn't want trouble." Shay swung his hands out and began half circling the two. Occupying the other side of the room, the small group began to stir from their silence by the fire.

"Shay, please you're going to alert orcs or goblins that might be near!" A young man stood up from the fire, his voice soft and nervous as he approached his brother.

"Mind you own business Breen! All of you mind your own business!" Shay shouted shoving his little brother back, and making the small boy stumble on his feet. "Shay please-" the boy called after his brother, watching helplessly as the dark haired man stormed out of the cave.

The boy was about to go after his brother, but the sandy haired man held up a hand to stop him.

"Let him cool off, Breen. We don't need anyone getting hurt." The man reasoned calmly as he turned to the hot headed elleth. "As you for, please tell me what happened?" The man, known as Zaren, the leader of their small group said, before leading the elleth to the fire. She would be able to warm her aching muscles.

What kind of a team we will be, when everyone is at each others throats? Zaren thought to himself as he trailed back towards the fire, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Tauriel sat beside the blonde haired elf who had spoken to them when they entered. "What's it like out there?" The youth asked as he began to stoke the embers of the fire back to life.

"Cold. Dark. Depressing. Legolas, I don't wish to discuss it." The elleth answered as she clenched her jaw once more.

The young elf prince nodded in understanding, before shrinking back into the worn blanket he had wrapped around his shoulders.

So as the night grew colder and the sky darkened, no cold light of the moon shown, no stars appeared. Just the normal darkness they all continued to live in. The group huddled quietly around the slow burning embers, all silent. That's how they lived, no one spoke unless it was necessary, and they only burned a fire once every few weeks. They no longer had the pleasure of firewood at hand, or warm meals. They lived off of small things, some weeks when the hunters returned, they might eat a thin boney rabbit. Sometimes a fish or two. But they learned to live, and become accustomed to the sharp signs of hunger pains. It was just how it was. And there wasn't much they could do to change that fact, except hope that tomorrow would be better then today.

Authors Note: OKAY! So my group is a group of eight. The ones introduced in this chapter were
Tauriel (movie cannon)
Legolas (cannon)
Shay (oc)
Breen (oc)
Zaren (oc)

The last three will be introduced in the next chappie! But, as few of you know I really don't like Tauriel. But I put her in here so I would have at least one person that I can kill off without making myself sad. *covers mouth* whoops. Spoiler... Heh....
