Chapter 9.
Clip! Clop!
Clip! Clop!
The sound of horse feet echoed loudly through the forest, despite the muffled ground below. The coal black animal swung it's large, dark head from side to side, making a soft woofing sound. A dark King sat atop the beast, the perfect picture of authority and malice. A nightmare. The shadow showed no interest in his surroundings, keeping his eyes forward and focused. Focused on his task. The Witch King turned his cloaked head, keeping close vigil of his surroundings.
Dead oak trees lined a small, circular area, elegantly pulling themselves into a wall of nature. It was almost beautiful, if that was the right term. Considering the fact that everything was dead, he wasn't sure. Overhead, the moon bared down on the earth, a cold, silver light shining through the clouds, reflecting mystically off the dense fog.
"You've taken your time arriving." A malicious voice rang in the silence, causing the wraith turn in surprise -if a creature such as him could feel that emotion. The Witch king, kicking his dark horse roughly, turned the animal towards the noise.
"I apologize, Master. But, I bring news that I believe, will ring sweet in your ears." The leader of the nine spoke, relaxing in his saddle.
The dark Lord rolled his eyes and waved him on, lounging back in his own saddle.
"I sensed a light. I found it and eliminated it. But it was only a pathetic she-elf. Nothing more. Nothing less. " The Witch King spoke in a cold, detached voice. The death of the elleth meant nothing to him.
"And? What am I to do? Congratulate you?" Sauron asked sarcastically.
"That's not it. The elf spoke of a light. A hope, that will bring an end to your reign. If we can find who carries this light, and put an end to them; we'll win." The spirit explained, his voice coming out in a hiss. The shadowy figure swayed in the brisk cold wind.
The deceiver took a minute to consider this. He then shrugged.
"So you went out and did nothing, but kill a simple she-elf?!" The dark Lord's voice rose to a shout, though his posture was relaxed.
"I want this light destroyed! Not just some elf. I want you do go and do as I have asked! If I must do it myself, then you will wish you never spoken to me of this!" His tone promised death, but his stare ensured it. Even though you couldn't see the dark Lord's eyes, anyone could feel it.
The wraith hissed in response, shrinking in on himself in fear. His stallion stepped backward, huffing and tossing it's dark head once more.
"Yes. Master-"
"Don't let me down. I hope I am understood?" The Dark Lord reined his horse to the side, commanding it to turn.
The King Of Angmar inclined his head in respect.
The deceiver glowered at the wraith, cursing him quietly and slamming his heel down on the horses side. The animal let forth a pained cry, and Sauron restrained it from rearing.
Once the wraith had disappeared from sight, Sauron straightened. His hands angrily clenched the reins, listening to the metal on his gauntlets shift. The Maiar growled menacingly, roughly yanking the reins to the side.
He wasn't nervous, no. Why would he be nervous? They were just a handful of people. Mortals, most likely. So they held no threat... Right? Of course! He had nothing to fear, he had all the power. The seven dwarven rings were in his position, same with the elven rings. So no, they had no hope. He had taken that from them a long time ago. So why did he feel worried?
The dark Lord pondered these thoughts as he moved through the dark, gloomy forest. If it wasn't a big deal, why couldn't he shake the feeling?
The dark Lord sighed, clenching and unclenching his hands, listening idly to the sound of his gauntlets creak and shift yet again.
He had almost fell at the hand of men before. He wouldn't subject to that kind of thinking. Not now! Not when he had Arda tightly grasped in his hands.
Authors Note:
