One day, war broke out between the two races.

After a long battle, the humans were victorious.

They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell.

Many years later…

Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return…

Why not?

Humans, known to their foolish nature of being the perfect combination of good and bad. The essence of each of their traits is what made them unmeasurably powerful. In particular, there are seven known traits discovered, namely;

PATIENCE
INTEGRITY
BRAVERY
PERSEVERANCE
KINDNESS
JUSTICE
DETERMINATION

Combined with power of true strength and hope, Determination was the strongest of the seven souls of light. Determination was in fact one of the rarest to obtain that the possibility rate of having this trait is as low as 1%, or even lower. Man is unfortunately, easy to corrupt, easy to change, easy to… manipulate. Therefore, it is not thinkable of him to consider as worthy of the trait.

And the first of their kind to beheld the said trait… is no exception.

Her knowledge of the existence of souls, contaminated hers. Yes, like all souls revealed sadly, Determination can either be altered or fortified. What happened to her soul, however, was unexplainable. It grew frighteningly stronger due to her undying craving of Level of Violence (LOVE), resulting it to… modify corruptly. And thus, discovered the trait that distorted every human being, the first of the soul of darkness; HATE.

The blackness of Hate’s substance could easily poison any soul, even the strongest. It was considered as one of man’s greatest weakness. But as what I have stated, all traits alike have a special flaw that might help revise their abilities. Hate could be treated with the power of love, not LOVE. Then again, Love is not a trait easy to gain, for man has their own objective; humanity.

Determination and Hope combined can create Love so strong, it could wipe out any trait standing. Unfortunately, though, it is very unimaginable thus this Love could only exist in our dreams. And she is not someone who believed in such dreams. Her Hate, alas, is far too formidable.

After the discovery of the powerful nature of souls, and because only humans could attain such traits, the souls of those foolish enough to fall down to the Underground will be kept by the vengeful monsters, for the said traits of souls are the only elements great enough to destroy the barrier that trapped all monsters down.

After that?

They will proceed in the making of their plot of vengeance towards the ungrateful humans, but… Their Queen was not quite happy with that being said. Therefore, after witnessing the killings of six innocent humans, all children, and the growing obscurity in the soul of her two children, she took away the six souls, fled, and hid in an ancient palace, known as the Ruins.

The King however, was livid by the actions of the Queen, forming the Great Underground War, dividing the Underground to two; Stygia and Lux. Those clouded by the darkness of resent pledged allegiance with the King into the Kingdom of Darkness, Stygia. On the other hand, monsters who hoped for peace, restoration, and mercy, sided with the displaced Queen in the Kingdom of Light, Lux.

The people of Stygia’s main goal was to obtain seven souls to release them all to the Surface. And because of its shadows, they were never allowed to seek light, except for the light that will come out of the breaking of the barrier, the light of the Surface.

Lux has a different motive; to protect the six captured souls and any human that has fallen down. But that is not easy, for the Stygians hunted for the souls, and awaiting the arrival of the seventh. And after the expected time has come, however, the Queen was swift, taking in the child, and raised it as her own.

The seventh fallen human, whose soul was known to obtain the strongest of traits; Determination. The Queen however, was fearful that the child might end up like her own daughter, Chara, who was also human with the same trait of Determination. Sadly, as human, Chara’s soul was clouded with Hate, thus with her father, the King.

To prevent that to ever happen again, the Queen locked the child up in the Ruins, warning her of the dangers of darkness, and taught her of the light of mercy.

The child was known to be the brightest of all the Kingdom of Lux. But despite of the luminosity she brings, will her Determination last long?
