five. turkey day
chapter five!
season 1, episode 5 - thanksgiving!
IT WAS A DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING, also known as Aurora's birthday. Yes, she'd still get to eat the traditional turkey and mashed potatoes but also get presents and cake. "So it's the day before your birthday! How are we feeling?" Ned asked as he grabbed some books from his locker.
"Excited. I finally have the upper hand to say that I'm older than you." Aurora answered, earning an eye roll from Ned. "I'm still taller than you."
"Respect your elders, Ned. I'm still older than you." Aurora joked. "Anyways, how are things going with you and Jackie?" Ned's cheeks flushed, "Things are going good. I'm thinking of asking her out some time."
"Well, you better do it soon. Otherwise, someone else might date her before you get the chance to." Ned smiled, nodding his head. The two walked down the hallway, going to their next class. "What about you and Cole? Has the ice princess finally left you alone?"
"Sadly, no. Plus why does she think there's something going on between me and Cole? I'm just getting to know him for crying out loud!" the girl exclaimed in frustration, earning a few stares. "Mind your business, people."
"Yeah, what he said."
Cole was talking with his friends when he noticed Aurora and Ned. "I'll catch up with you guys later." he stated, walking away from the group. "Sleeping beauty, wait up!" Aurora playfully rolled her eyes, used to Cole's antics. "Hey, blondie. What do you need?"
"Can't I just walk with you and Ned?" Cole asked as Aurora gave him a look of disbelief. "Okay, you caught me. I wanted to know what you're doing for tomorrow."
"Why? Are you actually interested in what's going on in my life for once?" Aurora teased, making the blonde roll his eyes. "Will you please just answer me?"
"Fine, my grandma's coming over to my house tomorrow. She makes the best turkey, plus I know that she's gonna spoil me with a bunch of gifts." As Aurora gushed over her plans, Cole couldn't help but notice the way her face lit up or how her nose scrunched up. Wait... why was he even thinking of how she looked? He had a girlfriend for crying out loud!
"So what are you doing tomorrow?" Aurora asked him. Cole furrowed his brows in confusion, "What?"
"What are you doing tomorrow?"
"Oh! I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Plus, Jackie's uncle is coming over tomorrow so it might get a little awkward." Aurora nodded her head, coming to an abrupt stop. "Anyways, I've got class. I'll see you later, seaweed brain. Come on, Ned."
"Later, sleeping beauty."
IT WAS FINALLY THANKSGIVING and Aurora couldn't be more excited. Still in her pajamas, the girl was trying to finish an assignment. She couldn't leave it alone or else she would fail and Aurora was not letting that happen. That's just how she was.
"Aurora! Your friend is here!" her father announced from downstairs. Confusion was worn on her face as she quickly put on her bed slippers. "What friend, Dad? Ned isn't coming over until later." That's when she saw a familiar blonde standing in the doorway. "Cole? What are you doing here?"
"I'll leave you two alone. Don't get too comfortable, blondie." her dad teased as Aurora rolled her eyes. "I'm sorry about him. Anyways, what are you doing here?"
"I... wanted to give you this." Cole answered, holding up a bag. Handing it to her, Aurora rummaged through it, her face lighting up with glee. "A Brown sweatshirt? Oh my gosh, Cole! And the rest of the Brown sisters books? Thank you so much!" Aurora engulfed him into a hug, causing the boy to reciprocate the action.
"It was no problem, really. Plus, if you get into Brown, you get to wear the sweater." Aurora wore a wide grin, looking into his eyes. "But seriously, thank you. It was really sweet of you to do all this." Cole nodded, "Any time, sleeping beauty. But I should probably head out, I don't want to disturb whatever you and your family are doing today. I'll see you at school?"
"See you at school, seaweed brain." The blonde chuckled, playfully rolling his eyes. "Your never going to stop calling me that, are you?"
"Never in a million years." As Cole walked out the house, Aurora couldn't help but smile. The Cole Walters gave her something for her birthday? Cole Walters out of all people? It taught her one thing that day.
Some people aren't really as they seem.
