"I'd like an omelet, uh, cheese and ham and bacon? An- and tomatoes, too," Jon told the waitress.

"Alright then! So that'll be an order of French toast, an omelet, a bowl of oatmeal and a stack of pancakes?"

The boys all nodded in agreement, and the waitress went off towards the back of the restaurant.

Jon sipped at his coffee, looking across at Ryan with a determined look.

Ryan, against his better judgement, hadn't felt like arguing with Jonathan today.  Which meant that when Jonathan ordered himself a nice, big cup of coffee, Ryan said nothing despite the fact that caffeine was the last thing the boy needed.

Ryan sipped his own coffee, silently checking his phone for the time.

7:08 am. Still an hour and a half until they had to be at school.

"Bryce? You okay?" Ryan couldn't help but notice how Bryce looked.

He seemed... Upset? Sad? Frustrated?

It was hard to tell. But either way, Bryce was staring down at his orange juice, the big, bright smile he had on earlier gone.

"Oh, shit! Bryce! What- what's wrong?" Jon looked worried too, shaking his friend's shoulders gently. "Come on, speak to us!"

"I... I don't know. I'm just worried, that's all. It's no big deal. Sorry." Bryce shifted awkwardly in the booth, shrugging his shoulders. "I didn't sleep much last night. Just tired, you know?"

Jon giggled. "Why didn't you sleep much last night, huh? You got some secret affair goin' on?"

Bryce made a face, before scooting away from Jonathan. "Uh... No. Sorry to disappoint."

"Delirious, stop teasing Bryce. He's obviously upset over what we just learned about Luke's whole... issue, and you should give him a minute." Ryan felt bad for Bryce. Poor kid just learned that his family was lying to him, and immediately after he's putting up with Jon's weird jokes.

He would be upset too.

Jon sighed in defeat, leaning back into his spot. "Fine. Sorry Bryce."

Bryce didn't respond, instead he just eyed his juice silently.  Jon frowned at this, and leaned over to hug Bryce.

Ryan couldn't help but give a little laugh at the sight. It was sweet. Jonathan wasn't much of a hugger. To see him soften up a bit said a lot about the two.

Suddenly Bryce sits up straight, head jerking in the direction of the kitchen. Jonathan, startled, yelps and nearly falls over.

"What the fuck was that, Bryce?" Ryan was trying his best to not laugh.

"I smell food. I'm hungry." Bryce gave a sheepish smile, still searching the room for any sign of their breakfast.

Not even a minute later, they're eating food. Jonathan is stuffing his face with eggs and pancakes, Bryce is digging into his French toast, and Ryan is quietly watching the two while eating his oatmeal.

"Are you gonna finish that?" Bryce points at the half-eaten pancakes.

Jon shakes his head. "Nah. You can have them."

"What? I don't get any?" Ryan pouted slightly, staring down at the pancakes longingly.

"Hah! You eat your old man food, you old- old man person!" Jon cackles, clapping his hands together.

Ryan looked over at Bryce, and to Ryan's surprise, Bryce was looking right back at him.

Something about the way Bryce looked at him made Ryan curious about Bryce. What went on in that pretty head of his? Especially now, when they may as well have uncovered a conspiracy about Bryce's cousin?

He could only wonder, it seemed. And considering they never did finish their conversation from earlier... Maybe it was something they would have to finish later.
