Sectumsempra
Severus Snape had loved Lily Evans for as long as anyone could remember even though for as long as he could remember she had never loved him back.
"My Lord," he whispered, getting nothing in return. Then he heard something crunch. "Lumos," he whispered and his wand lit up. James Potter, the husband of Lily, the man who had tormented him for so many years at Hogwarts. Now he was dead, lying on the floor of his home in Godrick's Hollow looking as though time had just...stopped. Severus felt tension rising in his throat. It was quiet here, too quiet and although he had promised to keep her alive the Dark Lord wasn't well known for keeping promises. "Lily," he screamed into the night. A child started crying somewhere in the house. Severus started to run, slamming doors shut almost immediately after opening them until he found the right room.
All of a sudden everything slowed down to a complete halt as he saw Lily lying there, dead on the floor. Lily, the most beautiful girl in his life, dead. Lily, the only person he had ever loved, dead. Lily was gone forever. The life in himself seemed to leave as he realized what he was seeing. Severus sunk in a heap on the floor crying which made the Potter boy cry harder.
Suddenly Severus stood up straight and pointed his wand at the boy. "Av—Avad—Avada—" but he couldn't do it. He couldn't kill the boy for at that moment he saw Lily. He saw Lily in the eyes of the boy in front of him. Then he remembered and shouted "Crucio," but the spell lacked true force and meaning so the boy just cried harder and the front of the crib fell off. Severus, his mind like swirling thick muck, decided he could face this no longer and pointed his wand at himself. He couldn't feel anything and wanted to feel the pain of this and join her. Perhaps she could learn to love him in another world. "Sectumsempra," he shouted with so much force. Blood sprung from his body as with agonizing pain his skin was ripped apart. Pools of red brighter then Lily's hair lay at his feet covering the girl as well. As he fell into the blood he moved himself so he was on top of Lily. At least their bodies could be together in death. As the agonizing pain started to take over he leaned over and kissed Lily on her cold, dead lips. He had only kissed a girl once before...
"Thanks for taking me down to see the lake today Sev. I'm sorry that awful Potter boy tried to take your pants off." It was spring of third year and Severus had taken Lily down to do homework by the lake until Potter, Pettigrew, Black, and Lupin had decided to pay Severus a "special visit."
"It's alright Lily," Severus had said,"I bet he was just doing that as a favor for Black."
"What you think he's...?" She giggled so hard she couldn't finish her sentence.
"Have you seen the way he looks at Lupin. It must be love." Severus said, laughter spilling out of his eyes. Only Lily could make him feel like this.
"Wish I had someone who loved me. Other than that Potter git," she caught the look on Severus' face and smiled at him. "I'm so glad I've got you, Sev." And she wrapped her arms around his waist. On complete impulse, Severus stopped her right outside the door of her common room, leaned over, and planted a small kiss on her soft, pink lips. She jumped back in surprise. "Night Sev."
"Night."
He had always meant to ask what she'd thought of the kiss, but had never gotten around to it. Maybe if he hadn't been so obsessed with the dark arts but... all thought and light was fading from the life of Severus Snape.
Suddenly there was the sound of a motorcycle screeching to a halt. Then hurried footsteps and the sound of someone screaming in despair. The door to the room Severus was in slammed open and in raced Sirius Black. "No. No Snivellus, greasy haired and selfish as ever, you can't do this we need you." And then he started saying the incantation to heal Severus Snape. He started to protest but Sirius interrupted. "I know you think you can't do this. I know you want to die but I can't let you, and you'll hate me for it now but tomorrow you'll be glad I forced you to live. Hagrid will be coming soon so you can't take my motorbike but good luck. We both lost those dear to us today and I'm very sorry. In time you will understand why I'm doing what I'm doing and I hope you can come to forgive me. Tell Remus it wasn't me, ok. Tell him it'll all be ok and I'll be back soon. Just in case." Then Sirius waved his wand one last time and Severus was sent flying from the house.
He ran for miles and when he could finally stop crying for long enough to think clearly he apparated to where Dumbledore was. The only person in the world, he thought, who could help him now. The only one, he thought, who understood loosing the person you love quite like this.
