CHAPTER TWO — MORPHIN' TIME
destination dinohenge — part two
"Go, go, Power Rangers!" — ada cranston
ADA CRANSTON DID NOT EXPECT TO BE HEADING AFTER A MYSTERIOUS PURPLE WARRIOR INTO AN UNDERGROUND CHAMBER WHEN SHE WOKE UP THAT MORNING. But now, as she descended down into the hole with Amelia and Ollie, part of her wondered what would have happened if she decided to put off using her Morphin Grid scanner one more day. She definitely wouldn't be approaching the entrance to a secret underground chamber for one.
The entered the main chamber, built into regular geometric shape. It must've been in the ground for eons, yet it was more high tech than some of the things they had at the moment. Had another team been sent from the future like Time Force? Whatever the explanation was, she was sure they were about to find out.
"Wow!"
"Look at this place." Ollie breathed out in awe.
Ada nodded in agreement. "It really is amazing."
"Mom will flip."
As they drew nearer to the centre of the room, they passed some sort of stationary guards which Amelia proceeded to blow dust off of the shoulder. "Wait till my boss sees my Dinohenge story." She stared around the room in amazement, the joy brightening her face.
Ada didn't want to hurt the girl's feelings, but she knew they couldn't tell anyone about this place, Meaning, no article. "Amelia—"
But Ada was cut off when a door opened loudly making the trio dart behind a rack to keep hidden. Although her eyes were trained on the mysterious warrior as he entered the room, she couldn't help but notice what was in the rack. They looked like keys. But before she could analyse them further, the warrior spoke.
"Where is that energy source?" Energy source? Was he looking for the Grid like Ada. Did he have his own Morphin grid scanner? She knew she could have trademarked it before using it. "It must be mine."
Another door opened behind him to reveal... a dinosaur. And not just any dinosaur.
"A Solonosaurus." Breathed out Ada as she stared at the creature in wonder. A dinosaur had survived. This was incredible. Behind them was some sort of container but Ada couldn't see what was in inside.
The dinosaur panicked when the doors opened as the warrior turned to approach them. The dino tried tapping away at a control panel, calling out for a 'Zayto' that none of them knew. They could even speak. Wow, just wow. Her family would freak out over this. But then the warrior blasted the panel, sending the dino hurtling backwards. Oh no.
They couldn't let this warrior hurt this innocent dinosaur.
"Tell me, old lizard. The energy source, where is it hidden?" The warrior interrogated.
"Firstly, I'm a dinosaur, not a lizard." Corrected the Solonosaurus. "And secondly, old? Ouch!"
The warrior snarled at the dinosaur. "Don't play games with me." Then the warrior added. "I am Void Knight." Okay, so Ada was almost correct. "And you're no match for my power."
"I'm not, but he is!"
With a button, the light inside the container switched on and the door slid open. Ada couldn't believe her eyes. It was a Red Power Ranger. And, judging by the suit, she could tell that it was a Ranger the Legendary database hadn't heard of yet.
"A new Ranger team." Whispered Ada excitedly. This was amazing. And after all the effort her Dad went through to get them away from the Ranger life, here she was, in a Power Ranger base staring at a Ranger.
And it seemed this Void Knight also knew what he was up against. "A Power Ranger?" Scoffed the knight. "Nice try." Swinging towards the dinosaur, the blade ended up hitting the control panel again, damaging it further. "Now tell me... Where's the energy source?"
Ada Cranston had had enough of this.
Turning around, she took in her surroundings, looking for anything to use against this attacker. Then, mounted on the wall, she saw them. They seemed to be... dino swords?
Glancing around at the others, she noticed Ollie's gaze was also at the swords. It seemed they both had the same idea. So together they made a dash for the weapons on the wall, tugging them free with one easy move. Then, they readied themselves to defend this dinosaur. Dinosaurs weren't about to go extinct, again, on her watch.
"Don't you play the fool with me." And just as Void Knight went to bring down his sword upon the dinosaur's head, Ollie and Ada leapt into action.
On either side of the dinosaur, they raised their blades and captured Void Knight's before it could land a blow. Ada smirked triumphantly at the warrior's confusion.
"What?"
"Leave the old dinosaur alone." Ollie demanded.
Ada added as she pushed back with all her might. "Yeah, it's not nice to pick on the elderly. Did no one teach you to respect senior citizens?" Together Ada and Ollie shoved Void Knight back which allowed the dinosaur to back away from harm.
The Knight looked between Ollie and Ada and then decided to swing for Ollie first. If that was because he thought Ollie was the bigger threat, then Void Knight had another thing coming. Yet before his blade could make a blow, a net was shot straight at him.
Ada looked back to see Amelia, with the device Ada thought was a weapon clutched in her hands. "This may come as a shock, but no one likes a bully." With the swords still in their hands, Ollie and Ada joined Amelia's side as she turned up the electricity and zapped Void Knight.
"You'll pay for this." He promised as he grunted in pain.
"That won't hold him long." Said the Solonosaurus as she appeared behind the collapsed Void Knight. Then with her claws, she withdrew a small key — just like the others on the rack. "So put this key in the saber, and then the Hengemen will fight for you."
The key was tossed towards Ollie and Ada and the latter had one hand outstretched ready to catch. But Void Knight intercepted and caught the key in the air.
"Wrong." Ada knew he was smiling beneath his helmet as he held the key in his grasp. "They're going to fight for me!
And that was when Ada realised that the sword in Void Knight's hands was exactly like the ones they had, just purple. Which meant he could use the key.
They all watched in alarm as Void Knight plugged the key into the saber and pulled down on the handle a few times. "A new toy. I'll enjoy this."
An energy wave flooded the room, filling into the Hengemen that surrounded them. Very not good. Then the Hengemen came to life, every single one of them. Very not good indeed.
Ada raised her saber and tightened her grip on the hilt as she stared down the fighting drones around them. Ollie kept his saber up and ready to fight whilst Amelia tightened her grip on her net cannon although Ada doubted it would be of much use now.
"Hengemen, show me what you've got!" Ordered Void Knight and then the Hengemen started right towards the trio.
"Amelia, Ada, Pine Ridge has been great, but I don't think it's for me." Gulped Ollie as he watched the Hengemen advance towards them.
Ada kept her eyes trained on the soldiers as her back rested against Amelia and Ollie's. "Pine Ridge was meant to be safer than Angel Grove. It seems that's not true." She sighed and readied herself for a fight.
"Uh, any ideas?" Ollie asked them.
Amelia placed her device onto the ground and replied. "I've done three years of karate."
"Yeah, me too." Ollie commented. "And six years of fencing." Wow, these guys had some experience.
"And I've been trained by some of the most badass badasses to ever badass." Added Ada which just confused the two next to her, Ollie more than Amelia.
With no weapon to defend herself, Amelia hid behind Ollie and Ada. "So you two wanna take the lead?"
Her Dad was going to freak when he found out, but Ada was willing to take the lead. She had trained for this after all. So, she stared down Void Knight with a firm gaze and took a more offensive stance.
"Pathetic!" He sneered. "Deal with them!"
The Hengemen shot out their spears, hoping to all get the trio. But Amelia and Ada ducked as Ollie leaned backwards with their backs for support. The spears met above their heads, narrowly missing them.
Phew, that was close.
The three were divided as the Hengemen attacked. Some headed straight for Ada so she finally put all that training to some good use. Swinging her sword, she deflected the incoming Hengeman's attack, and then the next. Ollie and Amelia were busy with their own Hengemen so Ada had to deal with this lot on her own.
She spun and kicked one directly in the chest, sending it to the ground. Then she turned and jumped, flinging her leg straight into the face of another incoming Hengeman. Each Hengeman that came for her was sent backwards, but they kept on coming. These guys were definitely more resilient than Putties, that was certain.
Spotting Ada backflip into an attack, Amelia dropped her jaw in awe. "Where did you learn to do that?"
A spear clashed with Ada's sword and she replied as she pushed back the Hengeman. "It's a long story." She grunted with effort as she threw the Hengeman away from her with her sword. Void Knight was still searching for whatever he was after, but the trio was currently too busy to do anything. "Amelia!" Yelled Ada over the fight. "Grab a saber!"
"Let me know if you guys need any help." Ollie told his friends.
"I was going to say the same thing."
Ada smiled. "Me too. I've got your backs."
Across the room, Amelia yanked a saber off the wall and swung it at the Hengemen. They went down instantly.
A Hengeman lunged for Ada who jumped out of the way. She skidded across the floor, ending up in the centre where they had begun. Ollie and Amelia landed beside her with pained grunts, the trio surrounded by closing in Hengemen. They were surrounded again.
Back to back, the three rose to their feet, still eyeing the Hengemen as they drew closer. "Well, this was fun." Amelia said.
"Was it?!"
Ada rolled her eyes. "Yep, this is definitely a blast." She tightened her grip on her saber and prepared for another assault.
She could do this. She had to do this. She had to return home to her Dad, to her Papa, to her family. They had trained her for this.
And as the three readied themselves once more, something incredibly unexpected happened — her saber glowed.
Mouth dropping in shock, Ada stared down at her dino sword as realisation sunk in. She knew what this meant but it couldn't be true? Could it? The yellow glow brightened as if to tell her that her theory was correct. And she could feel it, the power, rushing from the sword and towards her fingertips.
"Ollie, Ada, are your sabers kind of glowy?"
Confusion were laced in Amelia and Ollie's voices whilst Ada just stared at hers in shock. "Yeah. What's with that?"
Yellow energy flowed through her entire body before settling on her left wrist. And with a burst of yellow light, a dinosaur shaped object appeared there. Ada instantly knew what it was: a morpher.
They were understandably confused by what was happening and gazed down at their wrists in confusion. Finally breaking from her shocked trance, Ada looked up from her wrist. "We have morphers." She laughed breathlessly.
She couldn't believe it. She was a Power Ranger.
Oh, if her Dad wasn't going to kill her before, he certainly was going to now. Move to Pine Ridge, he said. Get away from Rangers, he said. And now because of that, she was indeed a Ranger.
"You know what these are?" Ollie queried as he heard Ada's words.
But before Ada could say anything else, the dinosaur spoke up. "Here, have these!" She tossed three keys into the air and this time they weren't intercepted by Void Knight.
Ada caught the yellow key in her hands and as soon as she did, it felt like it belonged to her. The three exchanged a look before the two turned to Ada expectantly. She knew what these were, she would know what to do.
The Cranston girl stared down at the morpher on her wrist and once she noticed an opening, she inserted the yellow key and the two quickly followed her lead. Above them something was happening and a blue light appeared. But it was more than that, it was the Morphin Grid.
"Whoa! What's happening?"
Ada did not answer because he was about to find out.
Energy zapped down from the open grid, filling her body with power. Ada could feel it surge through every inch, every fibre of her being. It was incredible. And she couldn't help but wonder whether her Papa felt like this when he became a Ranger.
When the energy finished it's work, the light that consumed them vanished, leaving three new Rangers in its wake.
Ada looked down at her hands through her visor, coated yellow with fabric. She reached her hands up and felt her helmet, the familiar material feeling weird around her own head. She was the yellow Ranger and the thought of that made Ada want to cry.
Her Aunt Trini had just died and now she was the next yellow Ranger. So she was going to honour the yellow legacy and be the Ranger her Aunt would be proud of. Not only that, but according to Dinohenge above, her dinosaur was a Pterodactyl, just like her Aunt Kim. And now, as a new Ranger she could honour both her Aunts by kicking this Void Knight's butt.
The dinosaur celebrated as the trio morphed and Ada smiled at the sight of the two morphed beside her. Especially when she saw the blue triceratops Ranger.
Void Knight was outraged by the new Rangers. And the three turned to each other excitedly. But then Ada glanced down, and noticing she had a skirt attached to her suit, she tore away the yellow fabric and tossed it away. She had never been a skirt girl.
"All right!" Cheered Ollie as he turned to Amelia and Ada. "We're... we're Power Rangers."
"Affirmative." Smirked Ada beneath her helmet.
They were all buzzing with excitement and Amelia said. "Emphasis on 'power." Then she turned to glare at Void Knight and the Hengemen. "You're in big trouble now!"
"Tear them apart!"
Then the Hengemen attacked them once more. But with the power of the Morphin Grid flowing through them, the trio were given the extra power they needed to properly attack these soldiers. Sparks flew as they sabers connected with the sides of Hengemen, sending them flying back even further than before.
"Cool powers, costumes and weapons! What other stuff do we get?" Amelia asked enthusiastically.
Ada knew exactly what else they could get. "If you watch the news, zords!" Ollie replied, filled with excitement.
"I love a good zord." Beamed Ada, still fuelled on the adrenaline of becoming a Ranger. Like Father, like Daughter.
"Huh?"
Ada wasn't ready to delve into their confused looks and instead lunged at an incoming Hengeman. Swinging her saber, the yellow Ranger battled against these soldiers as she tried to end the battle. Across from her, Amelia jumped high into the air before launching her attack and then Ollie flipped high up before bringing down his sword with a slash.
They were learning quickly.
But it seemed Void Knight had found what he was after and ordered some Hengemen to pull a giant chest out of the chamber wall. Not good. "No!" Cried the Solonosaurus. "Don't touch that!"
"Guys!" Shouted Ada to get Amelia and Ollie's attention. "Void Knight's trying to get away!"
They went to head towards Void Knight, only for another Ranger to leap into action. It was the Red Ranger from the pod. They had launched into action.
With one slash, the Hengemen were reduced to rubble beneath the saber. Ada gasped in awe at the sight. "Wow."
A Hengeman struck its spear right for her head, which Ada narrowly ducked. She swung her sword right for it, sending it to the ground as the Red Ranger jumped over them to stop Void Knight in his tracks. It seemed whatever was in that chest was very important.
The scanner was knocked from his hand as the Red Ranger attacked, giving Ada, Ollie and Amelia the time to get behind them.
Glaring at Void Knight, the Red Ranger questioned. "Where did you get that armour?" As it seemed Red wasn't the only one to notice the similarities in Void Knight's suit.
"Doesn't matter."
"We think it does, Voidy." Ada spoke up as she took a brave step forwards, saber raised.
Void Knight dismissed her with a shake of his hand. "It's mine now, just like the Sporix." Ada frowned at the word. What was a Sporix? She knew a lot about a lot of things but she had never heard that word before.
"Whatever Sporix are, they're bad right?" Ollie queried as he turned to Red.
Red nodded. "Very bad."
"Bad for you. Good for me!"
Then they started to fight once more.
Red and Void Knight went straight for each other, battling for these Sporix things. Whatever those were. Ada, clad in yellow, battled more Hengemen. But this time, as her sword collided with one, it reduced to rubble. "Nice!" She grinned before attacking the next Hengeman to cross her path.
She, like the others, continued to fight. But then Ada watched as Red transformed his saber into a dagger and launched it straight at Void Knight. But Void Knight deflected the blade which sailed straight into the Sporix chest.
The circuits blew and the lid was opened. Then countless of glowing purple blobs flew out of the now open box. "Ew." Cringed Ada as the blobs soared all around them.
"No. No! They're loose!"
"Oh, this can't be happening!"
And then the Sporix headed for the open door where they could reach the surface world and... Pine Ridge. Oh no.
Void Knight dashed after them, but it was too late. The Sporix were free. "This isn't over." The Knight promised as he made his exit.
They headed after him, hoping to catch both him and these dangerous blobs. But as they entered the tunnel, Void Knight slashed at the roof, sealing them in. He and the Sporix had escaped.
SHE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT: SHE WAS A POWER RANGER. After meeting so many Ranger teams over the years and seeing what it was like being a Ranger, she just couldn't believe that it was happening to her. And her Papa was a Ranger too. So it seemed like it ran in the family.
But her first Ranger fight had been a disaster. The bad guy had gotten away and so had dangerous entities that she didn't know anything about. So the Yellow Pterodactyl Ranger was off to a bad start.
Red walked away, feeling awful about what had just happened. Amelia was first to break the tension as she said. "So, that was wild."
"Yeah, I got pretty good with this thing." Agreed Ollie, glancing at his saber.
Ada hummed in thought. "It was definitely unexpected."
Then Ada felt the power leave her and suddenly the three were standing there, back in the clothes they previously had on — the Ranger armour vanished. The battle was over so the morphers had demorphed for them.
"Wow, cool." Ollie glanced down at his morpher with a grin. "Can you believe it, we're Power Rangers!"
Grinning from ear to ear, Amelia added. "I definitely didn't think I'd become a superhero when I woke up this morning."
"I never thought being a Ranger was in my cards." Shrugged Ada. Then all three of their wrists began to glow and the dino morphers vanished to reveal a communicator watch. So these Rangers had both in one instead of separate like her family. "Nice communicator."
In front of them, the Red Ranger demorphed to reveal a man dressed strangely with antennae coming out of his head. Yep, this guy was not from Earth. But Ada didn't recognise the planet he was from either. "I'm Zayto." Smiled the Red Ranger as he looked at his new team. Then he glanced to the Solonosaurus in the room. "And this is my wise friend Solon." Fitting name.
"Greetings."
Ada grinned at her. "It is so nice to meet a Solonosaurus."
"My, you do know your stuff." That just made Ada's grin brighter. "And it is nice to meet you too."
Beside her, Ollie stepped forwards and offered out his hand to Zayto. "Well, I'm—"
"Ollie," Zayto quickly interjected and Ada stared at him curiously. How did he know that? "a rational, logical adventurer and scientist."
Amelia reached for Zayto next and as soon as she touched him, it seemed he knew everything about her too. "You're Amelia, an imaginative and unstoppable truth seeker."
Ada quickly realised how this happening. He could read their minds with a touch. How fascinating. Knowing it was her time, Ada stepped forwards and allowed the Red Ranger to grab her hand and read her mind. "And you're Ada, a strong and inventive..." He trailed off in confusion and when he glanced down at her curiously, he finished. "daughter of a Power Ranger."
"Wait, what?"
"You're the daughter of a Power Ranger?"
Realising what he had done, Zayto quickly glanced at her apologetically. "I apologise, I said too much."
Ada sighed and hung her head. She knew that if she was going to be a Power Ranger, this would have come out eventually. So she might as well get it over with. Besides, at least Zayto outing her meant she wouldn't have to try and find the right time. "My Papa, Billy, he's the Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger."
Ollie was shocked beyond belief. One of the smartest people on the planet, a man he admired, was also a Power Ranger. "Billy Cranston is the original Blue Ranger?" Ada nodded. "Wow!"
Amelia too was taken aback but then she turned to Ada with an excited grin. "Your Papa's a Ranger, you're a Ranger. You guys have started a Power Ranger legacy." Huh, it seemed they had. "So amazing." A thought crossed Amelia's mind as she asked. "So when you said you had been trained by 'the most badass baddasses to ever badass' you meant?"
"Mighty Morphin Green and Red, mainly." Admitted Ada and both Ollie and Amelia's faces lit up in awe. "But the others have also helped." She didn't mention how she had also learnt things from other teams as she thought too much at once might overwhelm them.
Amelia looked back to Zayto. "How did you know that stuff about us?"
"He's showing off." Solon said with an amused tone. "Beings from his planet can read minds."
"I wasn't showing off." Insisted Zayto before he turned back to his new teammates. "I'm making sure it still works." Then he asked. "How long was I in the stasis pod?"
Solon hung her head and then admitted. "A very long time, I'm afraid. More than 65 million years." Ada's eyes widened. Did she just say what she thought she just said?
"'Million'?" Zayto echoed, crestfallen.
Amelia quickly jumped in to try and reassure him. "Hey, you're in great shape for 65 million."
"I think we both are." Solon mentioned causing Ada to smile at the dinosaur.
Frowning, Amelia tore her eyes off Zayto to turn to Solon. "If Zayto's an extra-terrestrial, does that make you a..."
"A cyborg dinosaur?" Ollie filled in for her.
Solon nodded her scaled head as the others took in the mechanical additions to the dinosaur. "Yes, and Ada was right, I am a Solonosaurus." She smiled at the Cranston girl who smiled back. "But I was badly wounded in an ancient battle against the Sporix. You should tell them, Zayto."
There was a grim look on the extra-terrestrial's face as he approached them. He grabbed Ollie and Ada's arms and made a gesture for Amelia to grab Ada's hand. Then he told them his story. And just told, but he showed it to them too.
How 65 million years ago, these things that Void Knight tried to steal were released on his planet and made waste to it. And how after, he and the knights of Rafkon followed the Sporix to their next planet: Earth. On Earth they befriended the dinosaurs to help them fight until the Morphin Masters appeared and bonded them with the spirits of the dinosaurs. Creating Power Rangers.
It seemed her Papa and his team weren't the original team on Earth after all.
And then the Rangers — the Dino Fury Rangers — won against the Sporix.
"So with the zords' help, you beat the Sporix beasts?" Asked Ollie as Zayto removed himself from their minds.
"You did win, right? I mean, you're still here to tell the story." Amelia said. But by the look on Zayto's face, Ada knew exactly what had happened. Because the Dino Fury Rangers may have won, but they had lost so much in return.
Zayto walked away from them and towards the open chest. "It wasn't the kind of victory you celebrate. We captured the Sporix and locked them in this chest. But my friends, the other knights, they were... lost."
"We are so sorry." Ada spoke up quietly, just loud enough for him to hear.
Solon then said. "Zayto and I tried everything to destroy the Sporix. But it was impossible." Together, they made their way to Zayto and the chest as Solon continued. "All we could do was keep them hidden and guarded."
"So, you've been here ever since?"
Nodding, Zayto replied. "Yes. It's my mission to ensure the Sporix never get loose in the universe again. And today, I failed."
Ada blinked in surprise at how harsh he was on himself. "Dude, you just woke up from a 65 million year long nap. Don't be so hard on yourself." Even though Zayto still blamed himself, he appreciated Ada's words and nodded to show that.
"Well, it's all because of this Void Knight. Why would he want Sporix?"
Zayto sighed. "I hate to think. But right now, we need to find them and get them back. They'll hide and hibernate, until one by one they hatch into Sporix beasts. There are dozens and dozens of them and all they know is destruction. They must be stopped." He turned and faced Ada, Amelia and Ollie. "Your planet is in grave danger. And we're the only ones that can save it."
They all nodded as they accepted what was to come. Ada couldn't believe what was happening, but she had to. "We're here to help." Nodded Ada as she looked to their team leader, the 65 million year old alien.
"But first things first. You'll need some training." He told them and his gaze flickered to Ada. He had only seen a glimpse into her mind but he knew she had been trained by the best. But before she went into the field, he wanted to see what she could truly do. Then he turned back to all three of them. "Are you ready?"
"Are you kidding?"
"Just tell us what to do."
Ada smirked and looked to her new team. "Go, go, Power Rangers!"
Chapter two!!! And Ada is a Ranger!!!
Yes, I know, her secret is out already, but that's how I wanted it to be. Of course Zayto would see that Ada is the daughter of a Ranger. It's one of the most important parts of her life, of course he would see it.
And yes, Ada is the yellow Pterodactyl Ranger because I felt it was right. Being the Yellow Ranger so soon after Trini's death is such a big thing for Ada. Part of it feels wrong, yet she wants to honour her Aunt's memory and fight in the name of Yellow. Of course Ada will live up that name.
Also, her Dad moved them from Angel Grove and now she's a Ranger. Sorry, James, but your plan failed. He's not gonna be happy when he finds out.
Anyway, thank you for reading!!!
Sincerely Rosie aka Winter326
