To me, writing a story is like gardening. (My mom will be thrilled to know I'm finally getting her gardening obsession. She's pretty sure I didn't get that gene.)

But it's true. I had a little seed of an idea. I planted it on a page and then left it. I watered it now and again with a line here and there, a plot point, some dialogue.  Then one day my seed had turned into a plant. I had a full-blown outline for my story.

I nurture the heck out of it, giving it more life creating scenes and chapters. Even did some pruning. Then one day it bloomed into my first full novel.

I showed up. I became obsessed. Still am. I love my blossoming romance story.  

And the flowers keep coming.  The story has turned into a series as new buds keep showing up.
