Avery's P.O.V
"Your making me uncomfortable," I say.
"How am I making you uncomfortable?" He asks.
"You keep staring at me," I say back to him.
"I'm not staring at you." I turn over at him to see Carter looking straight at me.
"Yes you are. Right now actually," I say, annoyed.
I hear a groan, followed by Austin saying, "Shut up you two."
I huff in annoyance and turn the other way, which happens to be the opposite direction of Carter. Me and Carter got stuck sharing a bed since we were both too stubborn to sleep on the floor. He's been bugging me for an hour now and everyone else is trying to sleep.
I know if I fall asleep I'll have my nightmare again, and I do not want to replay that again. As far as Carter not sleeping well, I don't really know why he's awake.
Once we got into the house we all showered till our fingers were wrinkled, ate till we were almost sick, but didn't really talk to the owners of the house much.
After showers and food everyone went to bed. By everyone I mean Austin and shy guy, shy guy was our new nickname for him since he won't talk to any of us. He did talk to me once but that was very briefly.
The owners said that it was way too early to be going to bed so they went to the oldest ones bedroom to play video games or something. The four of us were in the youngest ones bedroom, me and Carter on the bed, and Austin and shy guy on their own separate air mattresses. Sleeping in the same bed as Carter maybe a bad idea but I wasn't sleeping on an air mattress.
"Why don't you go to sleep?" I say, wanting him to leave me alone.
"Why don't you?" He asked.
"I asked first," I said, childishly.
"I asked second. Who cares?" He says, I couldn't help but chuckle at his comeback.
"Alright, whatever. Can you move so I can get up?" I ask.
"Where are you going?" He asks, but gets up for me get off the bed.
"The bathroom. Geez," I whisper my lie. I honestly just wanted to leave the dark, scary room that has an annoying Carter in it.
I go to the kitchen and get a cold glass of water and sit at the kitchen table. With all the quietness between everyone I've been too lost in my thoughts, and I hate it beyond imagine.
My mind wants to think of that night, the night that's ruining my life. I try to think of other things, my parents, the tv shows I love, even school, but nothing helps to keep the dark memory away.
I suddenly hear a creak of the floorboards as the youngest boy walks in.
"Oh hey. I didn't know you were in here," he says, looking unsure of what to do.
"Oh uh it's fine. Just couldn't sleep," I say.
He nods and goes to the fridge, getting a water bottle and sitting on the opposite side of the table.
"Wanna talk about it?" He says, reminding me of when Carter asked me the same question yesterday in the woods.
"No," I say simply.
He nods again. "Got it. Well I'm Sam," he says, holding his hand out for me to shake.
I chuckle. "Avery," I say, shaking his hand.
"Well it's nice to meet you, Avery. Just wish it was under different circumstances," he says politely, but it ruins my mood instantly.
I was forgetting about my real problems until he mentioned it.
He noticed my sudden mood change and his face dropped. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything."
"No it's fine," I say, not exactly wanting to continue this conversation.
He awkwardly stood from the table, mumbling a small "good night" and leaving. Leaving me in both the room and my thoughts.
Carter P.O.V
"Why aren't you drinking?" Asks one of the guys we were hanging out with.
"Obviously because I don't want to," I snap at him.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Carter my man, what's wrong?" My best friend, Jordan asks. He swings an arm around my shoulder, dragging me away from the guy.
"Nothing," I grumbled.
"Nah somethings up. Is it about that one chick?" He asks, lighting a cigarette.
"She's not one chick. She's my girlfriend, but yeah. It's our one year anniversary and she decides to come to this stupid party," I say, annoyed.
"For now," he says.
"What does that mean?" I say, my patience running out fast.
"She's not one to hold a relationship. You know it, I know it, she knows it, her classmates know it."
"How wasted are you?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
"Well," he says, looking around the room with a hand on his chin and a thoughtful expression on his face. "Yeah, totally smashed."
I roll my eyes at him.
"Alright. Come on let's get you to bed," I say, planning on taking him to his room.
He follows me, most likely too tired to argue. I half carry him up the steps to his bedroom.
I open the door to his bedroom, wishing I didn't.
-----
I wake up panting, sweating pouring down my face.
I feel movement, looking over I see Avery sitting up and rubbing her eyes.
She must've came back to bed after I fell asleep, I thought.
Her hair was matted to her face, showing she was also not having a good dream either considering how cold it is in the room.
She puts her hand on my shoulder, "What's wrong?"
"Do you trust me?" I ask, the question eating at me.
"No," she says, rather bluntly. "But I don't not trust you either. Does that make sense?"
"Yeah. Yeah, it makes sense," I say. In some messed up kinda way it does make sense but I wish she could just trust me.
I get up from the bed, planning on going outside for some fresh air. I'm obviously not going back to sleep tonight.
"Wait! Where are you going?" She asks, her face looking panicked.
I'm confused as to why she's freaking so much. My guess it that she's just really tired.
"Just outside. I need some fresh air," I say, her face not losing the scared look.
The look on her face is making me very concerned on what she was dreaming about.
"Do you want to come with me?" I ask, just wanting the scared look on her face to go away.
I put a hand out for her to grab and thankfully she does. We walk outside and I sit down on the swing while she sits on the rocking chair.
I didn't know what to say. She seemed so lost in thought and look on her face has me worrying more and more by the second.
"Someone set us up," she says. Was this really what she's been thinking about?
"What?" I ask, wanting to know what she was thinking.
"Well, I mean if none of us did it then someone must have. They would have wanted to pin the blame on someone other than themselves right? They must have something against us. Do you have any enemies?" She asks.
Was these really the thoughts going on in her head?
"Uh I have people I don't get along with, but no, no enemies."
She looks at me thoughtfully.
"Do you?" I ask, wanting to know more.
"I do now," she says, honestly.
"What do you mean, you do now?" I ask. Was she talking about us?
"Something awful happened the night before we woke up in that car," she said, tears starting to form in her eyes.
Something happened to her as well? I wonder if something happened with the guys too.
"Me too," I say. Her head snaps up, her eyes meeting mine.
"Really?" She asks, her voice curious and almost child-like.
"Yeah. Wasn't the best night ever," I say, looking down, breaking eye contact.
I hear a creak and look over to see her moving from the chair to the swing.
She puts her head on my shoulder. I can feel her tears soaking my shirt but at the moment I don't really care.
She lifts her head up off my shoulder, wiping away her tears.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-" she starts to say before I put my hand on her cheek and move my head down so my lips meet hers.
So how do you guys feel about Carter and Avery? What's their ship name? I can't seem to think of any.😂
Anyways what do think of Carters flashbacks? What do you think is behind the door that Carter and Avery don't like?
Haha so many questions that only I know the answers to. I don't know when I'll reveal shy guys name. What do you think his name is?
