Chapter 7- A Shoulder To Cry On

Carter's POV

"Who the hell is this?" Austin says, his voice sounding dangerous.

"They haven't told you about me, have they?" Her voice sounding the same as the last time I spoke to her.

I have no idea why she would call, or how she got this number.

He didn't answer her. He kept looking back and forth at me and Avery, like he was waiting for us to explain ourselves.

I honestly didn't have the emotional or physical strength to talk about that night to anyone, especially someone like Austin. Still I was confused as to what Avery had to do with it. Did Avery know her too?

"Guess they didn't," she speaks again, her voice making me even more nauseous. "Well I think I'll let them explain. Till next time."

Then she hung up.

Everything was quiet, a little too quiet. The rain had stopped coming down so hard, the sun starting to shine again.

Austin placed the phone in his pocket hastily. He looked back at me and Avery, "So?"

"So what?" Avery said, her voice laced with fear and confusion.

"So what?" He said, raising his voice. "Are you kidding me? Who was that?"

"I uh," Avery stutters. How does she know Avery? They mustn't get along too well. "Nobody important."

Austin gave her a dark look. "Nobody important? Not the murder of that man back there? Not the one who is ruining our lives?"

She looked really scared as Austin stared at her.

"Hey guys come on. Knock it off," I say, going over to Austin and putting a hand on his shoulder.

Before I could even blink Austin had tackled me to the soaking wet, muddy, ground.

"I'm getting a really bad case of deja vu right now," I croak, thinking of how he first attacked me when we met.

He threw a hard right hook to my jaw, my head jerking to the left.

I heard Avery scream in the distance. "What the hell Austin?"

Austin gave me a look, a mixture of pity and disgust. He got up off me and angrily walk back to the house.

Avery ran over to me, crouching down and taking in the bruise on my jaw. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah. Just peachy," I say, sarcastically. I saw from the corner of my eye Charlie going back into the house as well.

She took her eyes away from my injury to look at me. Then she looked back down at my jaw and smacked me, standing back up.

"What the hell was that for?" I yell, stammering up to my feet, holding my jaw.

"Well for one being a smart-ass," she said, turning around and starting to walk.

"And the other?" I say, quietly, but I'm pretty sure I already know.

"For kissing me, you dirty piece of shit." Her words digging into me like knives. I know it probably wasn't the right time, but I couldn't help it. She reminded of her too much.

I watched her as she walked away, drowning in my own mistakes.

Avery's POV

I stomped into the house walking to the bedroom I shared with the boys. Everyone giving me either a confused or sad look, besides Austin who just looked pissed.

I went into the room and just as I expected Austin came trolling in behind me, closing the door behind him.

I plopped down on the bed and Austin looked hesitant but sat on the bed as far away from me as he can.

"Who was she?" He said, after a moment of silence.

I groan. "Austin," I say, stretching out his name.

"Avery," he says, sternly.

"I don't wanna talk about it," I say, quietly, avoiding his stare.

"Fine." I almost sigh in relief until he says, "Just tell me what she did to you."

"Austin I don-" I start to speak, but Austin interrupts.

"Avery, you didn't seem to happy to hear her. I know there's something going on with you two. So just tell me and I'll leave you alone," he says.

I sigh. Telling him would make the nightmares come back with full force, but he would leave me alone from now on. I feel so silly considering it happens to people all the time and I'm having stupid nightmares about it.

"I was at a party," I begin with my story.

I look over to him to see a surprised look on his face, probably because he didn't expect me to actually tell him.

He scooted back on the bed, so he could be propped-up against the wall.

He saw that I was staring at him and he smirked. "Just getting comfortable."

I sigh for the tenth time today. "Ok then."

I fold my legs underneath me and run a shaky hand through my hair.

"No rush," his voice was the calmest, and nicest I've ever heard him speak.

I gave him a small nice and looked away.

"Anyway, me and my friends went to a party. Ya know a regular high-schoolers Friday night." I start my story.

"Woah, woah, woah. How old are you?" He asks, giving me a crazy look.

"Almost 18. Why? How old are you?" I ask. Now that I think about it, he looks like he's in his twenties.

"Almost 21," he says, then he looks as if he's forgotten something. "My birthday is next week."

This shocks me, but I'm more happy knowing he's changed the subject. "Wow well, we'll need to celebrate it sometime then," I say, chuckling nervously.

"Alright, stop changing the subject," he says.

"Well technically you did by asking how old I was," I say back to him.

He gives a look saying 'Go on'.

I let out a shaky breathe. "Alright," I say, beginning my story that's been haunting my dreams and I know Austin will probably laugh at me for exaggerating.

(If you still remember her old flashback you can skip this part and I'll tell when she continues it)

"You can't go in there," she said, trying to push me back.

"What? Why?" I question, confused as to why I couldn't go into the room.

"Please, Avery just trust me," she begs, desperation clear in her voice.

"Where is he?" I ask.

"He's um-"

"He's in there and I want to see him. I don't understand the problem," I'm confused, she acting really weird.

"You just have to trust me. Come on let's go get you a drink," she says, putting an arm around my shoulder.

"You know I don't drink," I say, moving away so her arm fell from my shoulder.

"Yeah but I was thinking we could tonight. School starts in two weeks so we should have some fun," she tries to convince me.

"Drinking isn't fun, you never drink anyway. Why now all of a sudden you want to start drinking?" I asked, starting to get mad.

She wants me to drink and won't let me into the room, what's going on?

"I'm going to see Michael," I say, moving past her.

"No," she yells out.

Just as I'm about to turn the knob, I'm pushed to the floor.

"I-I told you to not go in there," I looked up at her, astonished that she would do such a thing to me.

I hurry to my feet and stare at her.

"What is wrong with you tonight Ally?" I ask, one of my best friends. "Have you been drinking?"

"Uh yeah. Yeah I've had a few drinks." Lie. I've been her friend for so long I know her tells, the things she does that give her away when she lies. She aways puts her hand on her forehead and looks around the room, or hallway as of right now, but I don't know why she would want me to think she's drinking.

"Ok well maybe we should get you home, we can go watch some movies like always," I say, smiling at my friend. I just wanting to move her from the door so I could see what was going on.

"No," she shouted, I was taken back my her outburst. She was always a quiet, sweet person, so all of her yelling tonight was strange.

"Why?" I ask.

"I just want to stay a little longer," she says, smiling.

"You never want to stay at parties, Ally, What is going on? Why can't I go in there? Where is he?" I yell.

I don't wait for her response before opening the door.

(Continues now)

My breathe hitches as I take in what's in front of me.

"Avery," Ally says, cautiously. "I said not to come in here."

"Avery," my best friend, Caitlyn says, climbing off the bed and my boyfriend.

"W-what the hell?" I yell.

"Avery listen," Caitlyn tries to explain, but I didn't want to hear it, neither did I want to just runaway crying.

I did the only thing that seemed fitting at that moment, I calmly walked up to her, smacking her a crossed her face.

Her head whipped to the side, she quickly looked back at me, jaw-dropped, and clear shock on her face.

"Bitch," she screeched, running at me and slamming against the wall.

"I'm the bitch, are you serious?" I yell back in her face.

She then punched me in my stomach and I let out a loud scream, shoving her away.

She charges at me again, but I shove her away, her back banging on a dresser and she sinks to the ground.

Ally runs over to her to see if she's ok, but I knew she was considering I could see her chest moving up and down.

I look back at the other traitor who I called my boyfriend, well used to anyway.

"Avery," he says, slowly, just like Caitlyn did. "Please can we just talk?"

I walk up to him, our chests almost touching. He gives me a soft look like he thought I was going to forgive him. Well he thought wrong.

He leaned his head down to kiss me. I moved my lips to his ear saying in a deathly voice, "Go to hell."

With that I walked away, but before I could get out the door someone grabbed my arm. I spun around to see him with an angry expression on his face.

"What do you think your doing?" He asked, his voice scaring me.

"Leaving your sorry ass," I spit out. I shove him away once again, but he grabs my arm with one hand and smacks me a crossed the face with the other.

He stumbles backward, taking in what he just did. I didn't say long enough to figure out if he went to comfort Caitlyn or just left.

I run down the steps and turning left, not knowing exactly where I was going, since the house was so big.

I kept running until I somehow ended up in the kitchen.

"Hey cutie," a voice says. I turn around to see a man walk over to me, probably drunk considering his slurred words.

"You look like shit." Wow, how nice. "Wanna drink?"

"Uh no. I don't drink," I say, about to walk away from the stranger.

"Oh come on. You look like you've seen a lot tonight," he explains, hand me a glass of, well I don't know what.

"Ok. Ok fine, why not?" I say, drowning the shot.

"That's the spirit, cutie," the man says, handing me another.

As I finished my story I was in tears. I haven't looked at Austin this entire time, I didn't want him to see me cry.

"Then you woke up?" He asks.

"Then I woke up," I confirm for him, my voice cracking.

"Hey," he says, but I still don't look at him. "Hey, look at me."

I give in, looking at him.

"Come here," he said, patting the spot next to him.

I hesitate not wanting something to happen again.

"I don't bite," he says, playfully. "Usually." I really like this new side of him.

"You won't kiss me right?" I say, half joking, but half serious too.

He chuckles. "You're too much. Come on."

I nervously go over to him and he puts his arm around me.

"Don't take it the wrong way," he says, reassuringly. "I'd like to have you as a friend Avery."

"I like nice Austin," I say, teasing.

"Me too," he responds, resting his head on top of mine.

And for the first time since I've woken up from my drunken state, I felt happy and content.
