Chapter Twenty Two

"Harry, I have to help these two. Archibald Shields needs to let go. His wife and daughter have been trapped beside him since they passed. They want to go over. He needs to live again."

Gaia turned to him as they walked. The shops along the way didn't hold a candle to the mission given to her.

"Well then, we'll have to arrange a meeting with him. I'll have a chat with Paddy. I believe he might be staying in the Queen's suite. Not that the British monarchy cares about us at all. The Queen Elizabeth the second. She quite the ancestor to live up to."

"Let's stop and get our wedding rings first. Our young Queen has her life to live. Mark my words, your father is right. Ronan insists she'll be the greatest, longest reigning monarch Brits have ever seen."

Harry hopped up on a low border wall surrounding a flower bed. His eyes even with hers, he asked, "Do you still want to move to America?"

"Aye. I sense the time is soon. Ireland grows restless. The Irish Republican Army is gaining support again. The country will split along it's religious boundaries. Why can't people understand we're all the same under our skins? Kindness is the key. Caring for one another matters far less than which God or Goddess we revere."

Harry smothered her words with a kiss, and she swore her toes curled inside her walking boots. Her center liquefied and her tongue chased his as she wound her fingers into his glorious black curls.

"Let's get those rings. I'll wear mine from this day forward. You are my mate. My wife, the mother of my children, and my partner in all our endeavors together." Harry panted softly between his words. "The love of all my lives past and future."

Gaia felt a soft shiver run over her. His words echoed her own thoughts so exactly, she nodded.

"I can't wait to join with you." Gaia lowered her arms to pull him closer feeling his arousal against her. "Let's get the rings and find a priest who will understand."

"The rings are not a problem, finding a priest who will be sympathetic our unique needs, is another."

"At least we are both of an age where our parents don't have to be involved. I guess we need to apply at the registry for a license and wait out the ninety days." Gaia made a sour face. "It's not fair. We should visit St. Patrick's. It's only a short walk away."

"We'll do it. Rings first." Harry hopped down and took her hand. "They should be ready."

Gaia matched her strides to his as they hurried to the jewelry store. Harry held the door open for her and she took the three steps across the tiny establishment to the wedding band counter. The woman who took the rings for sizing was coming out of the back room with the ring boxes in her hands.

"I had a feeling you would be here early today. They arrived back last night. Rogan was pleased to help. Says he knows you Harry, and the work is his gift to you. I think he made a small change to yours, though Gaia. I hope you like it." She flipped one of the tiny jewel cases open and handed it to her.

The ring shone. The knots were there, with the emeralds as before, but in the center one had been enlarged and a brilliant diamond sparkled. Beside it and alternating with the green stones, amethysts shot violet sparks and Gaia sighed.

"He's outdone himself, my love," Harry said. "May I?" He held out his hand for the ring.

Gaia wiggled it free and handed it to him. Opening the other box, she found his ring, exactly as it was. She pulled it out of its slot and their eyes met.

"Here?" Harry asked.

"Here." She nodded.

He held out is left hand and she slipped his ring onto his finger. A faint green glow grew around the stones.

As Harry slipped her ring on her finger, she felt a quick burn and raised an eyebrow.

He nodded and said, "I felt it too."

"We'll let the priest bless them before the church and heaven, and that will be the last time they come off," Gaia vowed.

"Amen."

Applause surrounded them. The owner came through the archway from the back. "I have one other item for you, Harry O'Connor. Rogan said this was for you. His other gift."

He brought his hand out from behind his back. The gold links were heavy around several emeralds spaced evenly from the pendant. The king stone was a ten carat flawless deep green emerald cut as a hexagon as if it were a plain piece of clear quartz. A ray of intense light arrowed from it to Harry as the old man handed it to him.

"The energy. It hums for me; the vibrations are pure power." Harry slipped it over his head. The pendant settled on his sternum. "We have to find a way to thank him."

"We'll need a case for the amulet," Gaia requested.

"It came with a leather carrying pouch. I'll get it." The woman who brought them their rings, turned to open a drawer behind her. "It's right here." She handed a deep green suede pouch with a golden drawstring to Harry.

"Thank you, all. I have no idea who you are, but you have made our day special," Gaia said.

"I'm Ester Goldberg, and my husband Istak. It's been an honor to be with you on this special day. I wish you the best in a very long life together."

"If it were closer to the end of the business day, we would open a bottle to celebrate. You're family to us now. Rogan O'Dell is our adopted son. Orphaned years ago, his parents made us his guardians. The emeralds have been with us for decades. Waiting. You are the rightful wizard, Harry. They were meant for you." Istak spoke slowly and Gaia was reminded of the great God Cerannous. "Go, find your priest. Speak to the young one, Father Patrick. He'll aid you. He understands. The old one, well, give in."

Harry reached out to shake Istak's hand as Ester came out from behind the counter to give Gaia a hug. "You have challenges ahead, but you will live long and prosper. Go, daughter."

Gaia smiled brilliantly. "Thank you."

"You knew about my abilities?" Harry's startled question caught her attention and she turned to wait for Istak's answer.

"We know much about your sort. Rogan showed some amazing ability with gems and precious metal. His instinct for what is correct and which stones are lost amulets is unerring."

"Well then, you have my services whenever you require," Harry said.

"Ah, so generous, but where you go, it will be our son you help more often than me. Unfortunately, instant communication is not yet part of our talents." Istak shook his head.

"But let science learn, and it will be," Ester predicted. "Go, find Father Patrick. St. Patrick's Cathedral is steps away."

"Fitting that his first assignment bears his name." Istak Goldberg went to the door to open it for them.

Gaia stopped to kiss his cheek. "I'll never forget you."
