Chapter 33: He Knows
It's 2:30pm. I'm still with Michael, we're sitting on the bed. We're both tired. So tired.
Let's just say that Michael has now had his first time. I've had my second. God, and all in the space of about 18 hours..
"Baby..?" Michael calls over my shoulder.
He's hugging me from behind on the bed.
I lean my head back to lean on his shoulder.
"Yeah?" I ask.
He smiles seductively.
"I liked that. A lot. We need to do that a lot more often," he says with his husky voice. I chuckle at his enthusiasm.
"I had to do that with Daniel last night.." I mutter sadly, my mood changing drastically.
Michael squeezes me tightly.
"Well, I hope I was better," he says.
"Of course you were. But to be fair, this is Daniel we're talking about here. I think anyone would be better than him," I say. Michael shrugs.
"Yeah, true," he says.
"Anyway, I gotta go back to Daniel now," I frown. Michael frowns too.
"Do you have to go?" he asks. I nod.
"Yeah, I don't wanna risk my life anymore," I say, half serious and half joking.
Michael exhales through his nose and gets up as I do.
"Ok. You better come tomorrow," he says with a smile. I pat his arm.
"No questions asked," I say.
We both start to walk to the door, and once we're there, we stand opposite each other and look into each other's eyes.
"I love you," he says softly in my ear, as he nuzzles my cheek with his nose.
"I love you," I reply, as Michael kisses my neck, just under my ear.
The kiss starts to hurt, he doesn't stop. When he finally does, I caress my neck.
"That hurt?" he asks. I nod.
"A little," I say guiltily. Michael smiles.
"Sorry," he says. "But your neck is so irresistible."
I remove my hand from my neck and Michael stares wide eyed.
"What?" I ask.
He touches the area that he kissed me in.
"I gave you a love bite!" he gasps.
"Michael!" I giggle, slapping his hand away from my neck.
I walk to the mirror and Michael follows.
"Yeah, there it is," I chuckle, looking at the purple bruise on my neck.
"Hey, it's purple!" Michael points out. I smile.
"Yeah, our lucky colour," I say.
Michael smiles and hugs me from behind, looking at our reflection in the mirror.
"We haven't made the colour purple in ages!" Michael frowns with puppy dog eyes.
"Yeah. I know.. After what happened last time. I don't think we should!" I giggle, remembering back to when the entire class laughed at me and Michael in science class.
"Anyway, I better be going," I say, hugging Michael tightly.
"I'll miss you," he tells me.
"I'll miss you too," I say.
I start to head out of the door, before Michael pulls me back.
"How could you forget?" he asks with a wink.
"How could I forget?" I chuckle, as I'm taken in by his embrace.
He looks deep into my eyes, before leaning down and kissing my lips goodbye. This is the last decent kiss I'll have for at least 24 hours.
The kiss is getting intense, heated. I love it. So does Michael by the looks of it. He wraps his arms around my waist and I wrap mine around his neck.
Yes, these are the lips I love most.
"I'll see you tomorrow. I'll text you," I say, breaking our kiss finally.
"I love you," Michael tells me as I start to walk off.
"I love you more," I say.
"I love you most!" I hear Michael call back once more as I walk off back to Daniel.
I see Rachel across the road.
"Rachel!" I call.
I've gotta be nice to her now I'm in The Jax, ugh..
"Cozzy!" Rachel smiles slyly.
She walks across the road and meets me.
"Long time no see!" she says. I nod.
"I know. Now I'm in the gang, you'll be seeing a lot more of me. Especially since I'm dating Daniel," I say. She stares wide eyed.
"You're dating Daniel?" she asks. I nod.
"Yeah, I finally found he was bad enough for my liking," I explain. She smiles.
"That's awesome!" she says.
Oh Rachel. I hate you.
"Yeah, I know! So, are you actually in the gang or are you just dating someone from it?" I ask. Rachel shrugs.
"I'm kinda in it, but not officially. You're the only official female in the gang," she says. I nod my head.
"Oh, I get it," I say.
"And how are things with Mark?" I ask.
"Oh, things are good. He told me he was going to do something bad this morning, he just can't help himself, can he?" she chuckles. I smile.
"Yeah, what are boys like, huh?" I say.
"Anyway, I better be off. Gotta go see some people, places to be," she says.
"Ok, see you round," I reply, as she walks off.
Ugh, I hate her so much. I start to walk again.
My phone rings. Emma.
I answer.
"Hello?" I say.
"Miss Costello?" a woman with an Australian accent says.
"Yeah, speaking?" I reply.
"Oh, this is Nurse Hickling of the Gary General Hospital. I'm calling from your friend Emma's phone. She's in hospital with a concussion and some severe cuts and bruises. Could you come over?" she asks.
Emma! God, no!
"Yeah, I'll come right now!" I cry, hanging up and running to the hospital.
When I get there, I run to the desk.
"Emma Woodthorpe, where is she?" I ask.
The woman at the desk checks her computer.
"Ward 49," she replies with a smile.
"Thank you," I say, running down the corridor.
Ward 46. Ward 47. 48... Ah! Ward 49!
I run in, looking desperately for Emma. I see her in the corner of the ward, with the nurse that called me.
"Nurse?" I say. She turns around.
"Ah, yes. Look, your friend is getting more alert, but she's still pretty weak. Talk to her, she'll come around properly soon," she explains.
"Ok, thanks," I say, as she walks off.
I turn to Emma, who is looking at me forlornly.
"Emma?" I say.
"Hi.." she mutters.
"What happened?" I ask.
Emma looks like she is about to cry.
"Emma?" I repeat.
She pats the bed to allow me to sit down.
"Daniel knows you didn't really hurt me that day, at the park," she says.
Shoot.
"What, how?" I ask.
"I don't know.. I don't know at all.. But, on the bright side, he doesn't know you and Michael are still dating," she says.
I smile at that shred of good news.
"Ok, now can you explain why you're here?" I ask, pointing at the 'Ward 49' sign on the ceiling. Emma sighs.
"Daniel told Mark, and Mark fist beat me for real so that I really would be hurt," she explains.
Oh, this is my fault.
"I'm so sorry," I say, on the verge of tears.
"It's not your fault," she says. I nod.
"Yes it is! If I hadn't have come up with the plan to get into The Jax, I would never have been asked to prove my badness, and I would never have had to ask you to be my fake punchbag, and I--"
"Becky, calm down! It isn't your fault! It's whoever found out about it in the first place and told Daniel!" she says. I sigh.
"Oh god! I understand now! Emma, I understand. I saw Rachel earlier, she said that Mark had gone out to do something bad, so it must have been to come and hurt you!" I say.
"What? When did you see her?" Emma asks.
"Right after I came from Michael's house," I say.
Emma stares at me wide-eyed.
"Why would she be around Michael's house anyway?" she asks.
"Probably walking minding her own business?" I suggest.
Emma shakes her head.
"No! She's spying, isn't she? It's obvious!" she replies.
"But why would she--"
"To see if you and Michael really did separate!" she says.
Oh damn.
"So you know what you gotta do now?" Emma asks. I shake my head.
"What?" I ask. Emma sighs nervously.
"You're gonna have to be careful with Michael as if your life depends on it. I don't want you to get hurt more than you already have. If Daniel finds out you're still with Michael, there'll certainly be a death involved."
