Chapter 98: Family Day
*18th June 2009*
*Becky's POV*
"C'mon, you've all got school tomorrow, so let's just have a family day today!" Michael suggests to all the kids.
They're sitting on the sofa, looking bored as hell.
Poor Mike.
"And do what, exactly?" Electra asks.
"Well.. I dunno.. we could play a game or two, chat, stuff like that.. and at some point, I wanna update the family photo. We've not done that in a while," Michael replies.
Alexa and Alex jump at the idea of games time, "Yeah! Games!"
"See, Alex and Alexa are so easy to please. Why couldn't you be?" Michael asks the older three sarcastically.
"Maybe it's to do with the fact we're all in our late teens and early twenties, dad?" Dexter points out.
"Well yeah, but one day me and your mother might not be here to even see you, let alone spend time with you. You gotta make the most of the time we have together," Michael says.
"I guess you have a point," Electra reasons.
"When you put it that way, yeah," Ryder pipes up.
"Alright then," Dexter agrees.
"Great! What game d'ya wanna play first then?" I ask.
"Uh.. Monopoly!" Alex squeals.
"Monopoly! Great choice there," Michael grins, dashing from the room to get the game board.
"Bagsy I'm the hat piece!" I cry childishly, raising my hand.
"I'm the puppy dog!" Alexa says.
"I'll be whatever," Dexter tells me.
"I'll be the iron," Ryder says, flexing his arm muscles. "Cos it's strong and tough, like me."
"Don't flatter yourself, Ryd," Electra mocks, slapping his arm, and making Ryder rub it in pain.
"Back!" Michael re-enters the room with the box, and sets it down on the table, setting it up.
"I'm being the hat," Michael says.
"I already bagsied that one, sorry," I chuckle, and Michael pouts.
"Fine, I'll be whatever's left when everyone else has chosen," he says.
*1 hour later*
"Yes! $2000! I win!" Electra squeals, doing a little victory dance across the room.
"Alright, alright, what now?" I ask.
"We could go to the park," Michael suggests.
"The park! Can we take our bikes?" Alexa asks.
"Sure you can. Go get them, and meet me and daddy out front," I say.
The two little ones run off, leaving the three older ones.
"You guys taking your bikes?" Michael asks.
"Nah, I'll probably just take my skateboard," Ryder says.
"Same," Dexter smirks.
"Yeah.. I'll just take myself," Electra says.
"Alright. Well, c'mon, then. Let's meet the youngsters out front," I say, taking Michael's hand. I stop and turn around to the kids.
"Uh.. just a quick thing," I say. "Well, when you go to college, look out for a gang called The Jax, ok? And if you can, join it. It'll do you good if you do."
"Uh, sure," Dexter says.
Ryder and Electra nod in response, and we walk outside to the front of the house.
I only asked them to do that so our family would stay in The Jax for generations to come.
We see Alex and Alexa with their trikes, and walk their way.
"C'mon, let's go," Michael tells them, and we walk out of Neverland, to the park.
*at the park*
"You're getting good at riding your bike, Alex," I smile, watching him ride on his own through the park.
"Thank you, mommy. I've been practising," he smiles, coming to a stop and running over to me.
I lift him into my arms, and Alexa rides her bike over to Michael.
"Hey, Princess!" he greets her, patting the top of her head as she comes to a stop.
He lifts her off the bike, and raises her into the air, above his head.
"Y'know, one day, little Princess, you're gonna be too old to wanna play with daddy," he says softly, kissing her forehead.
"No I won't, daddy. I'll never get sick of your games and cuddles," she argues, kissing his nose.
"Ahh, that's what Ryder, Electra and Dex said. Now look at them, none of them are here with us. They're all over there on the skateboard park," Michael tells her, nodding in the direction of the other kids.
"But daddy," Alexa frowns. "I never wanna go play on the big park. It looks scary."
"Aww, sweetheart, you say that now, I'm telling ya, when you're 16 years old, you'll be begging me to leave you there alone, so you can be with your friends, and not me," Michael chuckles.
"Maybe, but I don't think so," she says.
"So, Alex," I look directly into his eyes. "You start big school soon, don't you?"
"Yes, mommy. So does Alexa."
"Are you excited?"
"Yeah, it looks like fun!"
"And you'll have to start doing work, y'know."
"Work? Oh no!" he cries dramatically, burying his head into my chest and giggling. "Work's too hard."
"Well, I had to do it, daddy had to do it, and Dexter, Leccy and Ryder all had to do it. It's your turn to do work, little one."
"Hmm," he groans.
"Electra! Dex! Ryder!" Michael calls across the park. "Home time!"
"Can we not stay here, and you go back?" Ryder calls back.
"No! It's a family day today, remember?" I answer for Michael.
I see Ryder roll his eyes, and he says goodbye to his friends, before walking our way, Electra and Dex following.
"C'mon, we've got other things to do, rather than messing around in a park. You can see you friends tomorrow. School, remember?" Michael says, as they come over to us.
"Yeah," Dex says quietly, and we all walk back to Neverland.
*back at home*
"I've been wanting to do this for ages," Michael says, setting up the camera in front of the sofa.
We're all going to have a family photo, it needs updating.
The last one we had was when Alex and Alexa were 1 year olds!
"Hurry, it's counting down, Michael!" I laugh, watching him run over to us and sit on the sofa.
He places his arm around me, and we all smile.
The camera flashes, and Michael leaps up to see the picture.
"It's not bad, but we could make it better," he assesses, resetting it and joining us back on the sofa again, before the camera flashes once again.
"Let's see this one," Michael says, getting up again, and checking the image. "Ah, much better!"
"Let's see," I demand politely, getting up off the sofa and heading over to Michael.
He shows me the picture.
We're all smiling, not a single thing is out of place.
It's perfect!
"Oh, wow," I gasp, smiling uncontrollably. "It's amazing!"
"It sure is. This one's being framed," Michael replies, starting to fiddle with the camera again to dismantle it.
"Mom, I'm gonna go see Katrice," Ryder says, grabbing his jacket from the back of the sofa. "I'll be back before midnight.. maybe."
"Ok," I reply. "Text me, though."
"I will," he says, before heading out the door.
"See you later, mom," Dexter says, as he and Electra head out the room.
Only Alex and Alexa remain now.
"So much for a family day," I laugh.
"Yeah, well, we've spent most of the day as a family," Michael replies.
"I know.. that doesn't happen a lot, does it?" I smile, seeing Alex and Alexa playing with their toys on the floor.
"Nope. Especially since the oldest three are embarrassed to be seen in public with us," Michael laughs.
"Well, they're at that age now, where mommy and daddy don't matter as much any more," I chuckle.
"I still can't believe that conversation with Brooke, though," Michael sighs, sitting on the sofa.
"I know.. who woulda thought our parents would be in The Jax, huh?"
"It's crazy! No one ever told me that it's been around for generations. Daniel always made out like he made the gang himself!" Michael says.
"Well, at least now we know," I say, leaning back into the chair. "What a day it's been. But I've loved it."
"So have I. I've really loved it. We must do it more often. Soon, the younger ones won't wanna do stuff with us, or we'll be too old to do it with them," Michael adds.
"Oh, to be young and free again," I chuckle.
"Yeah.. but I wouldn't swap the lives we lead for anything.. would you?"
"No, not at all. I love the life I lead, despite the negatives. Being with you, I could just about cope with it."
"Yeah, same here. With you, life is worth more."
"Aww," I smile, leaning my head on Michael's shoulder. "So sweet."
"And we'll only live once, so we gotta make the most of what we have."
"That's true.. I mean, we could die tomorrow for all we know."
"But we won't," I widen my eyes, wishing he wouldn't jinx things like that. "We're gonna live til we're old and grey."
"Of course! After seeing so many deaths in our lifetime, I think we deserve to live longer than average ourselves," Michael laughs.
"Oh, I know.. and it's not just the deaths we've seen, it's the deaths we've known about, too. My parents, my brother, my grandmother, Daniel, Rachel, your daughter, your brother.. Janine.. amongst others, too. It's just crazy."
"Yeah.. but at least we made a vow," Michael points out. "When we renewed our wedding vows a couple years ago."
"That's true. I like how we made our own vows," I reply. "Do you remember yours?"
"Of course I do.. mine went, "Rebecca Costello-Jackson, I vow to love you and cherish you until the end of time. Until death do us part, and after that, too. I'll protect and guide you through any hard time, and I'll be there no matter the situation. Because.. I love you.. and you're the only woman I'd ever wanna spend forever with".. I believe it went something like that," Michael says.
"I remember that day like it was yesterday," I say, snuggling close to Michael. "Just like yesterday."
"I wish we could relive all the happy times in our lives over and over," Michael says. "But I guess that's what memories are for."
"Exactly, we have it all in our heads," I smile.
"Those vows will always be meant, y'know," Michael tells me.
"Of course, and mine to you."
"You and I will never separate. We've been married 20 years, we must be doing something right."
"Ha, yeah.. I hope we have another 20 years at least, together."
"It'll be more than that, babygirl."
It still sends shivers down my spine when he calls me cute names.
"How long do you reckon, then?" I ask.
"20 multiplied by an infinite forevers."
"Aww," I smile.
Then, he kisses me softly, and we spend the rest of the night snuggling together on the sofa.
Me and my King.
Guys, that's the final chapter! Next is the epilogue, then it's over! I'm gonna miss this story so much! :( but it's been amazing writing it for you guys! :)
