Chapter 13: Medication
Michael's first POV, yay :D you can decide for yourselves how pointless the ending is.. I'm not sure, heehee.. :p
Michael's POV
So, it's been two days since me and Becky officially became one, relationship wise. But it's Monday, meaning.. I have work.
I've been off a lot recently because of Becky, and all that. It's been worth it, don't get me wrong, but it'll be nice to see all my work friends today.
I'm still in Becky's parents' house, we haven't had chance to move yet. I guess Becky'll be moving into my house, once we're outta here. She doesn't have a house to go back to, seeing as it is Alex's house.
Also, on the subject of parents, Becky hasn't met mine yet. Both my parents are fairly considerate towards my decisions when it comes to girls. Especially my mother. I mean, they both know I've met a girl, but they know, like, nothing about her.
Me and Lisa need to file for a divorce, which'll take a lot of work, but if I want a future with Becky, I'll have to leave her in my past.
It's 6:30am. Monday morning. Becky won't be used to me waking up early for work, so I'll have to write her a note. I don't wanna wake her.
I get up quietly, and head downstairs to get a piece of paper and a pen. Once I've found them, I write Becky a note. My writing isn't the best, but it's readable.
Becky,
I'm off to work now, so by the time you find this, I'll be gone. I gave you a kiss goodbye, so don't be upset that I left without doing so. The weekend has been the best weekend of my life, thanks to you. You make me happy. I love you.
Michael xxxxxxx
I like to add kisses, to make her feel special. She's actually the only girl I write kisses for, obviously.
I walk back upstairs, and back into me and Becky's room, and rest the note by Becky's side. She looks so peaceful when she's asleep.
I go into the bathroom to brush my teeth, do my hair, etcetera, and walk back into the bedroom to get dressed. I decide on a white shirt with black slacks and penny loafers.
My hair is tied back, for health reasons. Well, I am a doctor, so..
I bend down and kiss Becky's lips while she sleeps, walk downstairs and grab my lunch, which I pre-made last night, and head out the door silently.
Why do I have to be up for work so early? Ugh, that requires such effort! But it's to make people better, so that's a reason to make effort, I guess.
I get in the car and start the ignition, and drive to work. About ten minutes later, I get there.
Ah, the Gary Medical Practice. It's been a while.
I get out the car and enter the building.
"Morning, Michael," Nurse Alexia greets as I walk by.
"Morning," I smile.
I continue to walk to my room, and once I'm there, I unlock the door. I enter the room and sit down at the desk.
I haven't seen this desk in a while. Then, there's a knock at the door.
"It's open," I call. The door opens.
"Morning, Dr. Jackson," my boss, Ash, greets me.
"Good day," I reply with a smile, unpacking my stethoscope, and other equipment.
"Not seen you in a while," Ash says.
"Yeah, well, there have been a lotta family things going on."
That's technically true, so I'm not lying, obviously.
"You don't have to explain yourself. It's good to have you back Michael."
"Great being back. I've missed the place."
"Well, I'll see you in a while, then, alright?"
"Yeah, of course Ash."
He leaves the room, leaving me alone to unpack my equipment. I look at my patient timetable for the day.
I'm quite busy today, oh well. Gotta keep myself busy somehow.
12:00pm
The Medical Practice opened four hours ago, and I've been rushed off my feet! I tell you, it's crazy being a doctor. The knowledge of every kinda disease, ache, pain or sickness you could have has to stay with you, and determine how you treat a patient.
Their life can sometimes literally be in your hands with some of this stuff. Obviously, that's what hospitals are for, but we have to deal with the small things that can have a big impact; drugs and vaccines.
It's a little scary knowing that such a small chemical can change your life.
Anyway, next person I gotta treat is.. oh.
My timetable shows Becky's name.
Why do I get the feeling she isn't really sick?
I programme the computer to show her name on the screen in the waiting room, and moments later, she walks in.
There she is. My girl.
"Good afternoon, Miss Summers. Take a seat," I smile, gesturing with my hand towards the seat.
She sits down, and looks up at me.
"Now, what seems to be the problem?" I wink, to tease her slightly.
Damn, this girl gets me.
"Dr. Jackson," she sighs dramatically, her tone exaggerated, "I believe that I've got a fever."
"Let me check that," I reply, placing my hand on her forehead, "hmm, a little warm. You might wanna try calm that down a little."
"What do you suggest?" she asks.
"Oh, well, normally it's a case of getting a lot of rest, and keeping the body hydrated. But this is a case of Extreme Fever, the worst kind of fever. I suggest making your boyfriend give you a load of kisses and snuggles, when he gets home from work. Ok?"
"Thanks doctor. You've been a real help. Can I come back, if it gets no better?" Becky asks.
"Why, of course. This is very serious, you need the right treatment," I chuckle, and nudge her arm gently. Becky smiles, stifling a giggle.
"Thanks doctor. But, before I go, I need a little treatment now, so it can kick in before I get home."
"Well, I'm sure I can give you the right medication for that," I say seductively, as we both stand up, and I move closer to her.
"Yeah, I need medication now," Becky whispers desperately.
I nuzzle her cheek and kiss her neck gently. Her breathing becomes shallow at my touch. She likes what I'm doing.
"Doctor.." she mutters weakly, and I kiss up to her chin, then her cheeks, before finally kissing to the side, resulting in our lips touching in a passionate, tender kiss.
I wrap my arms around her waist, and she rests her hands on my shoulders.
"Am.. I giving you.. the right.. medication?" I ask between breaths, my tone almost a whisper.
"Oh yeah.. definitely," Becky replies, before exhaling loudly and pulling away from me.
"Good. And there'll be more later," I say, half playfully, half seductively.
Becky smirks, before heading to the door.
"And, just to let you know, I found the letter. Very sweet of you to write it for me," she says.
"Oh, that's ok. It was just in case you forgot I had work," I reply.
"Very considerate."
She begins to leave the room, a smile creeping onto her face.
"Oh, Becky?"
She turns back around and looks at me, "Yes?"
"Come here."
She walks sheepishly my way.
"What is it?" she asks, standing opposite me.
We are just inches apart from one another.
"I forgot to say--" I cut my own speech off and kiss her.
No thought, no planning, I just do it. When I pull away, I look her deep in the eyes.
"I forgot to say, I love you."
"Oh, well, I love you too, doctor Michael," she replies with a light giggle, making me chuckle, too. Her laughter is contagious, even the little laughs, giggles, whatever.
"So, I'll see you tonight, when I'm home from work. I still got a few patients to see," I explain.
"Alright. See you later," she replies, before reaching up and pecking my lips once more, then leaving the room with a cheeky smirk on her face.
Her and her fever, honestly. Then again, I have it too. It's contagious.
I look through my patient list, to see who I'll be treating next. Oh no.. I have no choice but to see her, whether she's sick or not. It's like a law in our Medical Practice.
You gotta see the person whose name shows up, no matter what.
I programme the computer to flash the name on the screen in the waiting room, and sit and wait. The door opens. And she walks in.
"Michael.." she says softly.
"Well, look what we have here," I hiss, standing up from my chair and walking over to her.
"We didn't love each other anyway," she says defensively.
"That's not the point. You cheated on me, and your new little lover cheated on my girl."
"Michael, I'm not happy about the fact that you've moved on from me so soon--"
"Says the one that decided to cheat on me with another guy!" I growl, pushing my chair in violently to avoid tripping on it.
"Oh, you know we didn't care for each other anyway! The marriage is dead, just leave it at that! We need a divorce, now. It's getting beyond a joke, how much time we're wasting, still married, all that crap. So your new bird--"
"My "new bird" happens to have a name. Becky Summers."
"Yeah, anyway--wait, her? She's the girl I met in the doctors about a month ago! That's the girl you moved on to? Really?"
"Yeah, you got a problem with that?" I ask angrily.
"She was the girl dating Alex before--"
"Yes! Congratulations! You can state the obvious at a grade one level! Why are you here?"
"Because I wanted to talk to you about getting a divorce."
"We can sort it out, y'know, when I'm NOT AT WORK!" My voice suddenly raises significantly, making Lisa jump.
"Alright! It was just a flying visit.. and, I wanted to say.." she offers me her hand, "no hard feelings about all this?"
"No, Lisa. When we're divorced, and have the knowledge we'll never see each other again, there'll be no hard feelings," I reply calmly.
Lisa lowers her arm, and squares her shoulders to seem more tough.
"Alright. I'll be going, then," she says, before turning to leave.
I find myself grabbing her arm to hold her back.
"Y'know.. things between us, they got crazy," I say. She turns around and smiles faintly.
"Yeah, I know. If things had worked out just fine.. we could still be together."
"Yeah.. thinking about it, you were my first love.. and my life, married to you, was amazing," I whisper, still holding onto her wrist firmly.
She smiles at the memories of us when we were younger.
"That's sweet of you, Michael. There's still a part of me that cares for you.. just.. it isn't a big part."
"Yeah.. but I realised something, y'know, that.. my life truly was great with you in it."
Lisa smiles, obviously flattered with what I have just said. She strokes my arm gently, indicating so.
"But.." I say, "my life with Becky is already a million times more perfect. Now get outta here, you make me sick."
She looks shocked now. Ha, good. As if I could really care for her, after all this? There's no way.
Her smile quickly turns to a frown, and she forces herself out of my grasp and leaves the room, slamming the door, without even saying goodbye.
Hmm, please herself. I sit back at the desk, and my phone beeps. A text from Becky.
Hey Michael, thanks for treating me so good at the doctors today, look forward to tonight's medication. Love you xxxxxxx
I shoot her a text back.
Baby, you're more than welcome. Expect a lot better tonight. It won't be long now, just a couple more hours. Love you more and mostest xxxxxxx
The thing about Becky is that, no matter what, she puts a smile on my face. That's what I love about her. She's the one girl that brings me happiness when I'm down.. and she gives me fever, plain and simple.
There's no room for Lisa in my life any more, I'll be glad to get this divorce, cos now, now, Becky's my main priority.
