Chapter 33: Michael's Birthday
Becky's POV
Last night was great. I tell you, despite being pregnant, and Michael having to be cautious of that, he sure knows how to treat me.
However, right now, I'm at the back door by myself, as Michael has gone for a shower, so I have time to kill.
It's quite dark out, as it's approaching autumn. It's almost 9 at night, which is what's making me wonder why Michael has chosen to shower so late.
I look up at the stars in the sky, and think of my miscarried child.
I always feel a sense of loss when I look up to the stars, as that's where I believe my child is.
I wonder if it was a girl or a boy. If it was a girl, I would've called it Phoenix, for a boy, it would've been Jasper, after my best friend.
I wouldn't have thought of calling it Miracle or anything miracle-based, cos it isn't like Alex has a low sperm count like Michael.
You can see my logic.
I've also been thinking about Lisa's kid a lot, too. If she doesn't want it, I've told Michael that we'll adopt with Lisa's consent.
But it'll be weird, having a Presley in the family, especially since we've spent the past year trying to get rid of them. I wonder what Lisa and Alex are doing right now; Lisa being free, Alex being stuck in prison.
"Little one, wherever you are now, I hope you're happy to know you've got a sibling.. I mean, I'm sure you woulda loved to have met the baby I'm gonna have. Both of you are my babies.." I say softly.
I clear my throat. "And, uh.. I miss you, a lot. I wish I coulda found out about your gender, at least..."
I head out into the garden, and lay myself on the grass, making myself comfortable.
I look down at my stomach, and feel a slight rush of excitement burst through me.
The knowledge that I'm gonna have a child is just.. incredible. And this pregnancy has lasted longer than my first one, seeing as I haven't been abused and sent into a miscarriage, like last time.
"And to the baby growing inside of me," I change who my speech is aimed at. "I just wanna tell you how excited I am to know I'm gonna have you. I'm gonna be the most caring mother in this world, and I'm gonna give you everything. But mostly love, cos that's what every child needs: love. And you know what? You're gonna have the most wonderful father in this entire world--"
"Why thank you, sweetheart!"
It's Michael's angelic voice I can hear.
I turn around to see Michael standing in the doorway, and he has his hair down, of which is soaking wet, and his shirt off, and a towel around his waist, despite his entire body being dry.
Yeah, this is the kinda Michael I need to see way more often.
I pat the floor next to where I'm lying. "Come lie with me."
He walks over to me and sits next to me. "How come you're out here, sweetheart?"
"I just needed to pass the time," I reply. "And I like looking out at the stars."
"Oh, I know you do. Because it reminds you of your child, right?"
"Yes.."
He lays down beside me and nuzzles his nose against my cheek.
"Your little baby is up there, sweetheart. The brightest star in the sky, I bet you," he tells me.
He can sense that I'm hurting.
"I wish I knew what gender it was, and.. I just miss it, Michael. That's why I'm glad we have this baby," I tell him, rubbing my stomach lightly.
"And this baby will be our miracle, sweetheart. I'm always here. I'm your best friend and lover, through thick and thin. We need each other, so we won't ever part," he reminds me.
"We're forever and a day," I add, a small smile forming on my face.
He turns his head to look at me, and I look back.
He lies close to me, wrapping his arms around me protectively, keeping me warm.
He brushes his lips against mine, kissing me sweetly, bringing a certain warmth to us both.
Reaching down, he places his hand on my stomach, and strokes gently, feeling the baby kick once again.
A magical moment for us both.
The kiss deepens, and I wrap my arm around his neck and pull his head closer to mine, making it more intense and intimate.
He rest his hand on my cheek, and tangles his legs with mine, pulling our entire bodies closer to one another.
We both roll over, so I end up on top of him, and he caresses me hip and thigh, sending shivers down my spine.
"Miss Summers, I love you," he moans into my mouth contently.
"I love you a whole lot more," I reply breathlessly.
"Not true, cos I love you.. most.." he retorts, finally pulling away from me.
He lets out a loud sigh. "Girl, you know just how to get me.."
Having no reply, I look back up at the stars. I rest my head on top of my arms, and let my hair spread out anywhere it wishes to, on the floor.
He brings me into his embrace, whether against my will or not, I'm not sure.. but I let him do it.
He kisses my temple sweetly. "My girl, who gives me Extreme Fever.."

Michael's birthday, 2 weeks later - Becky and Michael's house
"No, I can't wear this one, Michael! I look awful!"
I throw the royal blue dress onto the bed, and continue to search through the wardrobe.
"Why, sweetheart? You look perfect in it!" Michael says.
I bring my head from deep inside the wardrobe. "You gotta be kidding me, right?"
"No! Baby, just cos you're pregnant, doesn't mean to say you can't look perfect in whatever you wear!"
"But I don't look perfect, that's my problem!"
I bury my head in my hands and start to cry. These hormones of mine are a pain in the ass.
I feel Michael's arms around me. "Hey, shh, it's okay. Look, I tell you what, let me pick you a dress that I know you'll look perfect in. You can't say no, so don't even try me."
I nod my head and sniffle. "Okay.."
He searches through the wardrobe for a few minutes, until he digs out a purple dress with sequins on the upper torso.
"This is the one you're wearing," he says softly, handing me the dress.
I take it and examine it. "But--"
"Ah-ba-ba-bah! Nope! You wear it, end of story. You'll look even more of a Princess than you already are. Scrap that, you'll look like a Queen. And you know the best thing about that?"
"No," I reply.
"The best thing is, when our families see you, they'll all fall head-over-heels for you. But it's only me that can say I have you. I'm the only one that can say you're my girl."
I begin to feel warm inside because of his words, but I don't know how to reply, so I simply smile and look down at the dress.
"It's a beautiful dress," I mutter.
Michael kisses my temple. "But it's nothing compared to the soon-to-be wearer of it."
"Michael?"
"Yes?"
"Why do you compliment me all the time? I mean, I love it, but I never know how to reply.. and I feel bad for that."
"Well, because you're a beautiful girl, with a beautiful personality. I have to give you recognition for it."
"But I feel bad whenever I can't reply to them - which is every time!"
"Hey, don't you worry about that. You'd never have to reply to it. In fact, if you did something as simple as blush, or smile, I wouldn't care. Why? Cos you have the most beautiful smile, and you're so cute when you blush. So the reaction to the compliment itself, would be something to compliment you on."
"I think I understand.. so, this is the one I'm wearing?" I ask, holding the dress up to my body.
"It sure is, unless you want the Tickle Monster to pay you a visit?"
"Well, you know I don't want that," I chuckle. "I'll go try it on."
Michael's POV
So, today's my birthday, and Becky has yet to give me her present. I wouldn't need a present anyway, she's enough for me.. but I still can't wait to see what she got me.
She's gone to put the dress on and I'm now waiting for her.
"Oh, Becky," I mutter to myself. "Hormones are getting so very sensitive now.."
"I can hear you, y'know?" I hear her remind me with a laugh.
"Of course, uh.. Princess," I reply nervously. "How's the dress workin' out for ya?"
"Uh.. it's alright I guess.. but.. well, I don't like how my bump shows.."
"Let me see. C'mon."
She saunters in nervously, looking at me for my reaction.
Sweet mother of Jesus, she looks good!
"Baby.." I gasp in awe of her appearance. "Y-You look--"
"Like an over-sized walrus? Yeah, I know--"
"No! Oh God, Becky! Y-You're just... perfect!"
She blushes lightly, which is downright adorable. "You really think so..?"
"Yes!" I chuckle, advancing on her.
I wrap my arms around her waist and peck her lips once. "You can tell it's my birthday, you're spoiling me, girl.."
"Whatever you say, Michael.."
Wow, she really can never take a compliment. I'm gonna have to make her used to accepting them. I'm gonna make it my personal challenge, despite just telling her she never has to take a compliment, if she doesn't wish to.
"Let's go downstairs," I say, taking her hand and walking with her. "The guests'll be here soon."
--
"Hey-hey-hey, happy birthday!" Jasper says to me, coming in for a hug, which I gladly accept.
"Thank you, Jasp," I grin.
"Yeah! Thirty-four never looked so good, hot damn!" Charlie teases.
"Do you mind? I'm nearly thirty-four!" Jasper laughs. "So, I don't look good?"
"Of course you do babe. You always look drop-dead gorgeous!" Charlie chuckles, kissing Jasper's cheek.
"This is why I love you guys," Becky smiles. "Always able to put a smile on my face."
I twirl Becky around and force her body against mine. "And you always put a smile on my face, sweetheart."
"I'm glad, Doctor Jackson," she giggles seductively.
She comes in for a kiss, but we only achieve a quick peck before I'm pulled away from Becky.
"Hey! Mike, man, put her down! You're here to party, not make out all night!"
It's Janet.
"Hey, girl, leave me be! Not my problem that I have a happy relationship!" I joke.
She folds her arms and pouts. "Yeah, but when I have a relationship, I won't flaunt it in anybody's faces, ditwit."
"Ooh!" I gasp over-dramatically, holding my hands up in surrender. "Ooh, we got a badass over here by the name of Janet Jackson, who's so badass that she calls me ditwit! Wow, I'm real offended!"
Janet laughs. "Whatever, happy birthday bro."
We hug, and then mom speaks up.
"Okay everybody, present time!"
Shaking my head and laughing, I go sit in the centre of the room with Becky, and everyone starts handing me presents for me to open.
After opening every present but Becky's, I fold my arms and stick out my bottom lip. "Miss Summers, I love you, but where's my present, girl?"
Laughing, she hands me an envelope, and I shake it. "Ooh, is it money?" I joke.
She tuts and shakes her head with a laugh. "Just open it, Michael."
I open the envelope carefully and take out the contents from inside.
It's two tickets.. plane tickets..
"Admission - adult ticket for.. Italy?" I read aloud.
Becky smiles. "Our first vacation together, baby."
I leap up and hug her tightly. "Thank you, sweetheart."
"That's okay! And look, I woulda booked it for next month, but there were no flights, so we're going to have to go in December, closer to my birthday. But hey, at least we get to go, right?"
I kiss her temple. "I don't care when we go, as long as I go with you."
Obviously hearing me, everyone "awws" at us, and I chuckle lightly in embarrassment. It's not that I don't like showing my love for Becky around people, it's more based on the fact that I get embarrassed at the slightest things.
The party continues, and general mingling resumes.I'm hovering with Becky, Jasper and Charlie, simply because they're the most fun to be around.
"And the Leaning Tower of Pisa! You gotta go there, darling!" Jasper says to Becky.
Becky nods. "I would love to go see that. But the area me and Michael are going to is Lido Di Jesolo, which is mostly shops and cafés, not a lot landmark-ish about it!"
"Oh, my friend went to Lido, a couple years back. Said it was lovely. I'd love to go there, and Italy is so warm, too. Me and Jasper should come, as well!" Charlie laughs.
"Well, you should go when we go, make it more fun," I suggest.
Jasper and Charlie's eyes light up at the idea.
"Becky, were there any seats left on the plane when you booked?" Jasper asks.
Becky takes a moment to think. "Uh.. there might have been. But I don't really know. Hey, if you do come, we should all stay in the same hotel, so we're never too far apart!"
"Oh, that sounds fabulous, doesn't it, Charlie? Oh, we could actually do that!" Jasper squeals.
"We could," Charlie clarifies.
I suddenly realise something. "Becky, you realise that, going in December, you'll be around seven or eight months pregnant? Is it worth the risk?"
She chuckles and swats the air. "It'll be fine; we'll have about a month, it's not really cutting it that fine, so it's okay."
"I really think we should reschedule for after the baby's born," I say.
"No, it'll be fine. Absolutely fine!" she asserts.
"But I'm a doctor, sweetheart. I know what consequences can surface with this."
"Michael!" she starts, almost finding this amusing. "We'll be fine!"
"I still think there's a big risk," I mutter, taking a sip of my drink.
"Don't worry," Becky says. "So, you liked your birthday so far?"
I nod. "Yes, it's been the best birthday I've ever had. Knowing I have a child on the way with my girl is the best present a guy could have."
"Aww," Becky coos, reaching up on her tip-toes to kiss my lips. "Such a sweet man."
"Oh, I'm just honest," I say. "You treat me like a King."
"Because you are a King. My King," she replies.
I take her hand and twirl her around, as if dancing with her, and I kiss the back of her hand once she's facing my way again.
"Sweetheart, I may be your King, but just remember you'll always be my Queen."
Author's note: Soo.. they're going to Italy soon, huh? This should be interesting, heehee. Can I ask whether the storyline is getting boring or not? There's not really a reason for asking, I'm just kinda curious. Also, do you think I should add more doctor stuff in there? Cos I'm kinda ruining everything by only popping doctor stuff in there every once in a while. I'll try make it better next time. I know I always say that in nearly every chapter, but I will try make it more doctory next time. Still, I hope you like it? :)
