Chapter 51: Thankful

7 March, 1993

"Oh, little Miracle, I love you, and I want the whole world to know...
Oh, little Miracle, you mean the world to me, and I want to let it show..."

Michael is cradling Miracle in his arms, singing a spontaneous tune repeatedly to keep her calm, and it's honestly the cutest thing I've ever witnessed.

Once we arrived at the hospital on the day of her birth, we were checked over, then two days later we were sent home. Miracle has been alive for six days all-in-all, and they've been the six best days of my life so far.

I sit back on the sofa watching Michael walk around the living room, keeping Miracle close to his chest, occasionally kissing her forehead, and rocking her gently.

"I just can't get over it," he states, turning his attention to me.

"I know," I breathe.

"I mean, anyone can say they're a father... but how many people can say they're a father to a biological child despite having a low sperm count? We've defied the odds, sweetheart. It's just..."

He can't even finish his sentence, because with one quick glance at Miracle, he's set off, tearing up at the idea of being a father.

I stand myself up and walk over to them both, rubbing Michael's shoulders and kissing Miracle's forehead.

"I know, Michael. We're special."

"Hell yes, we're special. You know, the day you were giving birth, and I went into doctor mode, I wasn't just being professional... I mean, I felt like I had to do my job as a doctor, to help you, but... I felt a way I've never felt before..."

"Explain," I demand softly.

"Well," he starts. "I guess... I could've been a doctor to any woman in labour, right?"

I nod, indicating him to continue.

"Right, but with you... it was different. Knowing that the child you were giving birth to was actually mine just... gave me such a buzz. It's a feeling you'll never get to experience, y'know. Only a father can really get that in-the-moment adrenaline rush. It's incredible..."

He looks down at Miracle again, and kisses her forehead lightly, watching her sleep in his arms.

"The mother can't really experience it, cos she's in too much pain, but the father can," he continues.

I smile up at him, and he kisses my lips lightly.

"And being the father of a child, and being with you is just all my dreams come true..."

"I get it," I assure him. "It's all just so overwhelming, isn't it?"

"God, it really is. But it's the most beautiful kind of overwhelming in the world."

"I agree," I smile.

We exchange soft smiles, but our sweet moment is interrupted when the doorbell goes.

"Oh, could you get that sweetheart? Kinda got my hands full here," Michael chuckles.

I look down at Miracle and kiss her forehead, before smiling up at Michael and walking to the front door.

I open it, and my eyes light up at the sight of Jasper standing there - but without Charlie.

"Jasper, hey! Where's Charlie?" I ask.

He scoffs, "We're just going through a rough patch, that's all. He's at home."

He decides to change the subject quickly. "So, can I see Miracle? I've been dying to meet her properly. I couldn't really do that at the hospital."

"Sure, come in," I reply.

He enters the house, and heads into the living room. Michael spots him. "Hey, Jasp. Where's Charlie?"

"He's at home," Jasper replies lowly.

Jasper seems to be in a really bad mood - not angry, just sad-looking. He's probably never had a serious rough patch with Charlie before, so this must be getting to him a little.

"Oh. Normally nothing can separate you guys!" Michael chuckles.

I widen my eyes and make a hand gesture to Michael to stop talking about Charlie, and he gets the idea, nodding his head.

"Anywaaay," I grin over-dramatically. "This is Miracle!"

Jasper's straight face becomes a warm smile when he heads over to Miracle and takes her out of Michael's arms.

"She's gorgeous, just like her mother," he states softly.

Michael over-exaggerates a gasp. "Jasper, what about my beauty?"

Jasper laughs, "Oh, how could I not mention your beauty, Mr Jackson!"

I giggle lightly at Jasper's humour, and sit down by him and Michael. Jasper rocks Miracle in his arms, and Michael places an arm around me.

"So, six days old, huh?" Jasper asks.

"Yep. Six days old," I reply.

"The best six days of my life so far," Michael adds.

I lean my head against his shoulder, and look up at him. "Michael, can we do another one of our videos for Miracle?"

Michael fixes his gaze on me, and beams at the idea. "Yeah! Should we let Jasper be in it?"

"It's up to him," I decide. "Jasper, do you wanna be in our video?"

"Video?" Jasper cocks an eyebrow.

"Yeah, we've already made one. It's like, we film ourselves talking to Miracle, for her to watch when she's older. We did one a few days before she was born, and now we wanna do one now she is born," Michael explains.

Jasper grins, "Oh! Yes! I wanna be in it!"

Michael snickers. "Okay, I'll go get the camera."

I take my head off of his shoulder, and he heads out of the room, leaving me and Jasper alone in the living room with Miracle.

"She really is beautiful, you know," Jasper tells me, referring to Miracle.

I edge closer to Jasper and lean my head on his shoulder in a friendly way. "Thank you, Jasp. You're gonna be the most amazing God Daddy ever."

"And I'll always be here for you three, you know. Always and forever. You're all my best friends."

I reach up and kiss his cheek. "And it's the same here. So... tell me what's going on with Charlie. Please?"

I give him the puppy dog eyes, and he exhales through his nose, rocking Miracle in his arms.

"Well... we had an argument yesterday, and it still hasn't ended," he explains.

"What was the argument about?"

"Well... you know Charlie's friend Joey?"

"Yes... a little too well."

"Well, he came 'round last night, and Charlie left the room, and... he admitted to me that he was bisexual, and kissed me... right when Charlie walked in."

"Oh, God! I'm sorry, Jasper... what happened after that?"

"Well, Joey tried to explain that it was him that started the kiss, but Charlie wouldn't believe him. So he left, and me and Charlie argued until we fell asleep. I didn't even say goodbye to him to come and see you..."

"Oh, Jasp..." I rub him arm. "Joey kissed me on New Year's Day, and Michael caught us. But... he actually believed me when I said Joey started the kiss. How come Charlie never believed you?"

"He reckoned I looked like I enjoyed the kiss," he scowls.

"What? And did you?"

"No! I hated it," he admits.

"Then tell him that, Jasper."

"I did, multiple times! He still didn't believe me," he frowns.

I look at him closely, and notice tears in his eyes. This is really getting to him, bless his heart.

I hate seeing my best friend this way.

"Then I wanna talk to him. I'll tell him that the same situation happened to me, and that Joey really did start the kiss, and all that. Surely he'll believe me?"

"You can try, I guess," he sniffles. "Thank you."

"Hey, don't worry about it," I smile. "Anything to save the cutest relationship ever."

He chuckles lightly. "Girl, that's yours and Michael's relationship, not mine and Charlie's."

"That is where you're wrong, my friend," I smirk.

"I got it!" Michael enters the room with the camera, and notices Jasper's crying. "Oh, Jasp! What's wrong?"

"I'm okay, don't worry," Jasper assures him.

"You don't look it, man," Michael frowns.

"I'm alright, darling. Promise," Jasper asserts.

"As long as you promise," Michael smiles, setting up the video camera. "Anyway... again, let's just be spontaneous with this."

"Okay," I say.

"Wait... let Jasper stop crying first; we don't want a sad Jasper on our video," Michael looks at Jasper and smiles.

"I told you, I'm okay," Jasper tries to say convincingly.

Michael cocks an amused eyebrow, and starts the video going.

"Hey, Miracle. You're finally here, sweetie. It's been six days since you were born, and me and your mommy love you already," Michael says to the camera.

"Yes, and this is your God Daddy, Jasper. Your other God Daddy, Charlie, is at his home right now, but they both love you very much, and they're gonna be so lovely to you," I continue.

Jasper looks at the camera. "Hey, Miracle darling. You may have noticed I'm actually holding you right now, so this'll be a little weird when you watch it back. Me and Charlie are gonna do everything we can to make you happy, along with your mommy and daddy. Love you, little one."

I can't help but grin, and Michael places his arm around me again.

"Sweetheart," Michael says to the camera. "I want you to know that we will always love you, and we will always care. You mean the world to us, honey, you really do. I'm so very excited to watch you grow up, and for you to evolve in front of me and your mommy's eyes."

"I'll second that," I state. "Me and your daddy are gonna watch you grow into a beautiful little girl, and when you're sixteen and starting to mature into a young adult, we're still gonna care."

"Yes," Michael chuckles at my comment. "Your mother's right. You're gonna start to like boys when you hit that age, I bet. But I'll still be the overly-protective daddy you'll always know. I won't change, you know. Young or old, I'm still probably gonna be a pain to you, but I'll never stop caring!"

"Aww!" Jasper coos. "I can't wait to see you grow either, poppit. I'm sure all the boys are gonna run after you; being half Becky Summers and half Michael Jackson. You're one lucky kid!"

Me and Michael laugh at Jasper's words, and Michael faces the camera again.

"Miracle, we'll speak to you more in the future. Don't ever forget how much we love you. Bye for now."

He stops the recording, and we all share a group hug, for no apparent reason whatsoever.

These two boys really mean the world to me, seriously.

Again, our moment is ended with another knock on the door.

"I'll get it," Michael states.

He gets up from the seat, and walks to the door. I hear him open the door, and greet the person behind it. "Charlie, hey!"

"Hi Michael. Jasper here?"

"Yes... just through there."

Moments later, Charlie walks through the door, an almost blank expression on his face. Michael follows after, looking a little guilty for letting Charlie in.

"Jasper," Charlie breathes.

"Why are you here, Charlie?" Jasper asks.

"I just kinda figured you'd be here. This is our best friends' house after all."

"Yeah, well, bye."

"Becky, Michael," Charlie turns to us and starts. "I hope you don't mind me coming here... I just really want to sort this out with Jasper. I assume he told you?"

"Yes," I nod. "He told me about what happened."

"Oh! What did hap--"

"Michael, now isn't the time," I tell him.

"Okay," he gives in. "So... yeah, you can sort it out here. We hate seeing you guys like this."

"Thank you," Charlie then turns to Jasper again. "Look, Jasper, I know that Joey started the kiss... and I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't believe you about that, and I'm sorry I accused you of enjoying it... I was just a little all over the place, you know? I just..."

He trails off, and Jasper glances over at me.

"Should we... go?" I ask.

Charlie shakes his head. "No, it's cool. You can stay."

"I just... that really hurt me Charlie. It was bad enough being kissed by one of your so-called friends, without getting the blame for it..."

"I know... and I've apologised for that. It was just cos I was angry, and I felt betrayed. I just hurled insults without caring where they hit you..."

"Yeah, well... they hit me here, Charlie," Jasper holds his hand by his heart, to emphasise his point a little. "You know I would never betray you like that. Don't you remember that "Would You Rather" game we played the day Becky's waters broke?"

Charlie laughs quietly. "Yes... I remember..."

"And... we're getting married in three or four months. Surely that shows my commitment to you?"

"It does. It really does. And now I think of it... you're right. I was wrong, and I know you wouldn't do it to hurt me. We're getting married for a reason."

"Too right, we are," Jasper smiles faintly.

"And I'm sorry, okay? Sorry I got so angry... cos I love you, Jazzy... I really do..."

Jasper smiles faintly. "Okay... I love you too."

They both exchange sweet smiles, before Jasper stands up from the sofa and walks over to Charlie, and they share a small peck by way of apology.

"I wanna be like that," I tell Michael. "No matter what, we will always get through everything, as if we were a married couple."

"Yeah, I agree. I hope we can be that way," Michael agrees with me.

"Oh, of course we will be! I mean... we're gonna have our arguments in future, but we're always gonna get past them... right?"

"Of course," he nods. "We got fever for one another. We won't ever lose it, girl..."

I let out a light giggle, and peck his lips once. Then, Miracle starts to cry, and I lift her up into my arms, and kiss her cheek softly.

I feel Michael's protective arms around me, making me feel warm and safe. With Jasper and Charlie either side of us, I really feel at home.

These guys, along with my parents, are the only people I really need in my life, to be fair.

What Michael said was right; yes, we've had a lot of pain and bad times, but I can't complain, cos I've had just as many - if not more - happy times.

I should be thankful for what I have... and I really am.

I'm so thankful for what's happening now.

Hmm, I guess that was kind of a filler but... meh, I'll make something happen. I'll think of something. ;) Hope you liked it, anyway. :)
