Chapter 54: Just An Old Friend

Wanna wish mjlover22 happy birthday! Finally a teen. ;)

Michael's POV

I check my watch whilst driving home from Virginia's house, and note the time is actually... 6:45pm. I've been out for five hours, rather than the original hour and a half I planned.

"Crap!" I cuss to myself under my breath as I drive. "Becky is gonna kill me!"

I can't stop thinking about the fact that me and Virginia accidentally kissed. Neither of us planned it, so we were both surprised. I just can't stop feeling guilty over it, even thought it wasn't my fault.

I arrive at home about ten minutes later, and get out the car, before heading into the house.

"Honey, I'm home!" I call.

Becky heads into the hallway where I am, an angry look on her face.

"Where've you been? It's been over five hours, Michael!"

"I... went grocery shopping," I tell her.

"For five hours?! Michael, finding Miracle's baby milk doesn't take five hours! And where even is the shopping?"

"In the car," I answer timidly.

"Well... go get it," she demands quietly.

I nod, and leave her in the hallway. I get the bags from the car, and bring them back inside.

"They're here," I announce.

She peers into the bag, and pulls out a tub of ice cream. "It's melted!" then she pulls out the apples I got. "And they're crushed!"

"Oh... yeah..." I mutter. "Sorry."

"Michael, I wanna know where you've been!" she demands. "Surely I deserve to know what took five hours."

"I-I... look, I met an old... friend of mine at the grocery store, and she asked-"

"She?"

"Let me finish sweetheart. She asked me to stop by at hers for a drink, so I said yes..."

"Why didn't you let me know? I rang you eighteen times!"

"Eighteen? Uh... my phone died. I was gonna call you, but... God's honest truth, my phone died. Check if you don't believe me," I say.

I take my phone from my pocket, and hand it to her. She fiddles with it, and realises I'm telling the truth.

"So... who was this friend of yours, then?" she asks.

"Just someone I was in looo-uhh-friends with in high school..." I hesitate. "That's all."

"Right," she gives me a suspicious glance. "And what did you talk about? How to forget about your girls at home, who are in desperate need of milk and ice cream?"

I laugh a little at her question, "No... just a catch up really. We talked about how we've grown and gotten married and had kids now. You know, all that."

"She's married now?" Becky asks.

"Well, yeah. But apparently she isn't happy in her relationship. Says her husband hit her in an argument once."

"Damn... that sounds nasty," she sucks air between her teeth. "What did you say about you?"

She turns towards the living room, and I follow her, deeming the groceries I purchased today as fully useless. I see her on the sofa, Miracle in her little cot.

"Hello gorgeous," I greet Miracle, walking towards her cot and lifting her out. "Who's a perfect little Princess? Who's daddy's baby, huh? You're always gonna be dada's baby."

"I asked you a question, Michael," Becky reminds me.

I turn around, Miracle in my arms, "Yes, my Queen?"

She fakes a smile jokily. "Cute. Now, I wanna know what you said to this girl! Please?"

"Well," I head over to the sofa where she is. "I told her about my Vitiligo, and the fact I had a child and you, and she just thought it was cute."

"So cute that... she kissed you?" Becky suddenly scowls.

"Huh? What? No. Why?" I question.

"You should really disguise the bright pink lipstick on your lips before you come in here, Michael. Really. Doesn't do you a lot of favours."

Oh God! I've done it again!

"Oh, that!" I suddenly gasp. "No, I'll tell you why that's there."

"This is gonna be interesting," she mocks.

"No, look, sweetheart. When I was leaving, I went to do one of those polite goodbye kisses on the cheek, and then she tilted her head and it went on the lips. I honestly didn't mean it to happen, and neither did she. I swear on my life! I swear on-"

"Hey, hey, calm down. I just want you to promise me... cos I do trust you, Michael. I just want you to promise me that the story you just told is true."

"I promise," I say. "I would promise on anything in this world."

"Okay," she mutters. "And how did she react to it?"

"She was just as shocked as me. We both kept apologising to one another about it. We're both rather similar in that sense; always apologising."

"Hmm," she hums, her mouth closed. "Yeah."

"Something tells me you don't believe me," I say, trying to sound sad.

"No, I do. It's just, you were gone for five hours, and only when you come back, do I find that you were at another girl's house, without letting me know, you kissed her by accident, and then came home with useless groceries. I'm just a little disappointed," she answers honestly.

I take her into my embrace and kiss her temple. "I'm sorry honey. I really am. I didn't mean for any of that to happen, honest."

"But it did," she taunts. "It did happen."

"I know... I know. Look, how about we ask Miracle what she thinks about all this, okay?" I suggest.

Becky gives a confused look, and I lift Miracle up again, and stand her up on my lap.

"Now, Miracle," I begin my interview. "What do you think about the events that happened tonight between me and that girl?"

"Well," I put on a baby voice. "I think that you were very silly daddy, because you know that me and mommy need you here to look after us and keep us warm, and you said you would only be an hour, and you were five."

Becky's fighting herself not to laugh right now.

"Alright baby," I chuckle in my normal voice. "So... are you mad at me?"

"Well, daddy..." I start again in a baby voice. "What you did was very, very silly. But I think that me and mommy should forgive you for it."

"Yes!" I grin.

"But..." I say as Miracle.

I sigh, acting annoyed that Miracle would have a condition for forgiving me. "Yes, Miracle?"

"You have to get mommy some ice cream, and me my milk tomorrow. And I want me and mommy to come with you so that you won't go home with another girl again."

"Okay, Miracle," I say in my voice.

"Promise, daddy."

"I promise!" I laugh, before kissing her forehead.

By now, Becky is laughing uncontrollably. Dear God, you made such a beautiful, perfect girl.

I set Miracle down in her cot, before returning to the sofa, and looking Becky deeply in the eyes.

She leans her forehead against mine, and I caress her cheek with my thumb.

"I'm so in love with you..." I tell her.

She gives a smile, and keeps her gaze locked onto mine.

"And I'm so in love with you back."

"Oh, girl," I smile warmly.

"Yes?" she questions.

"You give me such fever, girl..."

She chuckles quietly. "It's been a while since you said that, Michael."

"Well, it's been a while since you said your line, too. In fact, why not do it now?" I smirk. "Becky, all the angels in heaven wouldn't compare with your beauty."

She grins, biting her lip in embarrassment.

"Whatever you say, Michael."

"Oh, I love that phrase," I smile.

"I know you do," she giggles softly.

"Becky?"

"Yes, Michael?"

"Just kiss me."

"Okay."

And with that, our lips press together sweetly. It isn't a fiery kiss, or a violent one... no. It's a perfectly cute, soft, gentle, loving kiss. They can be the best kind, sometimes.

... That is, until they're interrupted by your daughter's crying.

I pull away from Becky, and chuckle a little.

"Me and you aren't gonna get much time to ourselves now we have Miracle, are we?" I ask.

"No... but it's worth it."

"Yes," I beam. "So very worth it."

Becky's POV

Michael walks over to Miracle's cot, and lifts her out yet again. He lifts her high up so she's face to face with him, and he kisses her nose gently.

"Miracle, why are you crying?" he asks sadly. "I don't like seeing my little sweetie crying."

"Maybe she needs feeding," I suggest.

"Probably. Would you go get some—?"

"Yes," I answer before he finishes his sentence.

I head into the kitchen, and take out a sterilised bottle, before making up the milk and warming it up. I test it on the back of my hand, before returning into Michael and Miracle.

"Got it?" Michael asks.

"You see that I do," I laugh. "Why ask?"

"Cos I can," he smirks, taking the bottle. "Now, gumdrop, let's get you fed."

He then begins to feed her, and I feel my heart beating quicker because of how cute the scene is. Of course, I've seen this many times since Miracle was born, but it still gets me so hyped-up every time I see Michael feeding our daughter.

He rocks her gently as he feeds her, occasionally bending down to kiss her forehead, and then he looks at me.

"Wanna feed her?" he questions.

"No no, I don't want to interrupt your daddy-daughter moment," I smile.

"You're sure?"

"Yes. It's probably the most adorable thing I've ever seen."

"Our little family is so very special," he agrees. "We defied the odds with this little one here."

"We did..." I nod.

He smiles, before returning his gaze back to Miracle, and watching her drink the milk. He lifts his forefinger from off the bottle he's holding, and Miracle reaches up and grabs it with her tiny hands.

This makes Michael smile widely, almost uncontrollably, but he tries to control it by biting his lip.

"She's so precious," he states, his voice giving out slightly.

"I know," I reply quietly.

He wiggles the finger that Miracle is grasping, and he gives her a beautiful smile as she opens her eyes and looks right up at him.

This scene couldn't possibly get any cuter... but I have something on my mind.

"Michael?"

He looks up from Miracle, his smile fading ever-so-slightly. "Yeah?"

"I-I was just wondering... what if Alex comes back? I mean, we've just had Miracle, so who knows what will happen now I'm not so vulnerable."

"He won't come back. And if he does, I'll personally grab a sharp object, and press it in either his neck, heart, or crotch area. No matter what, it'll hurt him," Michael laughs softly with his comment.

I laugh a little, but then remain serious.

"Michael, seriously. He did promise to come back in future... remember when he punched you?"

"Yes, I remember. It's not gonna happen. I'm here to protect you and Miracle."

I look at him, not quite convinced somehow. "But he's managed to ruin my life so far. Who's stopping him from continuing to do that?"

"Me, I said," Michael states firmly, still feeding Miracle. "Why? Do you think I'm incapable of protecting my own girlfriend and daughter?"

"N-No, not at all," I say. "I was just... just curious..."

"Well, you don't need to be curious," he says. "Cos I'm gonna make sure nothing happens."

He almost seems mad that I'm doubting. Something must be up with him...

"Michael," I start. "A-Are you alright?"

"Yes, why?"

"You seem a little... off at me."

"I'm not off; I just need sleep. It's been a long day."

"Yes," I sigh. "Of course."

He finishes with Miracle, and sets her down in her cot. He approaches me, and kneels down in front of the sofa I'm sitting on, to make us the same level. Then, he kisses my nose, and gives me a sincere look.

"Listen, I'm okay, promise. I just need sleep."

"Okay," I give in.

He smiles, and leans forward to peck my lips once. "Atta girl."

We exchange mellow smiles, before settling down on the sofa together, with me nestled close to Michael's chest. I can't explain why, but his touch always makes me feel safe, protected. It's incredible how he manages to do that to me.

"Sweetheart?" he purrs.

I look up at him, "Yeah?"

"I love you."

I smile, "Love you more."

He giggles mockingly, almost as if he doesn't believe my words.

"I can beat that: I love you most."

Bad ending, eh, oh well. I'm slacking on this story for real. :/ I'm sorry. Anyway... hope you liked it. :)
