Chapter 59: Stay A Few Days

One week later – Monday

Michael's POV

Well, my time off work is over now, so today I'm back to being a doctor. It's currently 7:12am, and I have to be at work by 7:30. Luckily, the roads are empty due to how early in the morning it is.

I'm still buzzing over the fact me and Becky are getting married. My gosh, I've been waiting for two years to ask her to be my wife. It's taken too long, but I had to make sure the time was right – I've been planning that proposal for months and months, but without saying it.

Once I arrive at work, I park up in the allocated staff parking area, before getting out my car and walking inside the Medical Practice. It's been months since I was here; what with Miracle being born, and with me having to stay at home during the last stages of Becky's pregnancy.

I also have to tell her something very important. About two months ago, I found out that my low sperm count was actually treatable, and now... I don't have it. It was only temporary, so now I can conceive a child like any normal person can.

Maybe, just maybe, once I've told her that, we can consider having another child! Oh, how exciting that would be!

The reason I didn't tell Becky any of this is in case the treatment didn't work. I've kept it to myself — literally completely to myself – ever since I found out.

I head to the staff room, to collect my uniform from there. When I open the door, I see all the staff in there, and they look like they've been waiting for me the entire time.

"He's back!" Ash calls out.

Then, a rush of people come towards me, embracing me, greeting me, telling me how much work hasn't been the same since I left, etcetera.

"How's the baby?" one person asks.

"Is Becky keeping well?" another inquires.

Most of them are asking me question after question, and I try to keep my cool until Ash interrupts.

"Guys, hey! Let the man breathe! He's been here two minutes since he had his kid, and you're flocking 'round him like sheep!" he says, half seriously, half jokily.

Everyone steps back a little, and I inhale deeply, before letting out a sigh.

"Thanks, Ash. Now, guys, a lot of stuff has happened in the past few months. My daughter was born on March 1, and a little over a week ago, me and Becky got engaged—"

"Woo!" one doctor, Dr Williams teases, making every single person but Ash and me cheer the same thing, causing me to blush lightly.

"So, can we see a picture of Miracle?" Nurse Crossley asks politely.

They only know her name because I told them what we planned to call the baby, depending on its gender.

I nod, bringing out my wallet, and opening it to reveal a photo of my little sweetheart.

"Oh, she's gorgeous!"

"She's beautiful!"

"She has your eyes, Michael!"

All these nice comments make me smile no end, so I bite my lip to try and contain myself.

"Thank you guys," I say, "But God, if you saw the birth... I mean, Becky went into labour in the park, and when Miracle was born, she wasn't crying..." my voice trails off a little due to the memories, "And I thought I was gonna lose her, and now I feel like I'm gonna cry even though I know she's okay, but... I managed to save her, and she's here today, so I don't need to cry..."

I feel myself choking up a little; why, I don't even know, but then I feel everyone hug me tightly, and a rush of happiness washes over me.

"We're just happy for you, man," Ash tells me.

"Thank you," my voice is just above a whisper due to my voice giving out a little, "She's literally... a Miracle. She's my everything."

"And congratulations on your engagement, too!" Nurse Kaur smiles.

"Thank you Sally," I reply.

In our little doctor community, we call each other by our first names, not our profession titles or last names. We're more like a little family than work colleagues.

"Right, everyone! Let's get into uniform and get to work, now! It's almost opening time!" Ash claps his hands together to catch our attention.

I give a closed-mouth smile before grabbing my uniform, and heading to my office to get changed. Once I've done so, I tie my hair back into a ponytail, for health and safety reasons, and sit down at my office desk.

Ash enters moments later, with my patients timetable for the day. Like usual, he tells me that it's likely to change, so I should be aware of that.

And so starts my day.

--

It's now 5:17pm – I only have one patient left to see, finally. I will be honest, today has been nice because every one of my patients has been happy to see me back again. I guess people just like me... which is really sweet.

Who's my final patient? Let's see.

V Knowles

I know who that is. That's Virginia, my ex. Y'know, the one I bumped into a few weeks back, and went to have a drink with?

It's her.

I think that's a good thing, though, because last time we saw each other, we accidentally kissed. I think I need to apologise to her about that.

I set her name to come up on the screen outside in the waiting room, and I wait for a few moments until she enters the room. When she does, we flash a polite smile, and she sits down.

"Good evening," I greet. "Nice to see you again. Now, what seems to be the problem?"

"Hi, um... I-I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about what happened the last time we saw one another."

"I was gonna say the same thing," I answer. "Don't worry; it's cool."

"No..." she looks down. "My husband saw you leaving the house, and he asked me who you were. I said you were just a friend, but... but he didn't believe me, and he started getting violent, and—" she starts to tear up right in front of my eyes, "He hit me, upside the head with his cricket bat... the second after, he apologised for it, but then last night, he did it again, Michael..."

I knit my eyebrows together, feeling sorry for her. Her husband's domestically violent towards her? I can't stand domestic violence... I hate any kind of violence.

"I'm sorry, Virginia," I answer. "But what if he finds out you've come here, today?"

"I don't know. He's at cricket right now, so... he doesn't know. Jason and Ollie, remember, my sons, they don't know either."

"Gosh," I breathe. "Well, I wish there was some way I could help you, I really do."

"Well... there is. But I don't think you'll say yes because of Becky..."

"You remembered her name?" I chuckle.

"I remember a lot of things," she answers. "But, um... this morning after Stuart left for cricket, I packed a suitcase for me, and my two boys. I need to escape. I was just wondering... could we stay at yours for a few days? Y'know, you can totally say no, but—"

"You wanna stay at my house, with Becky and Miracle?" I repeat.

"You know what? It doesn't matter. I'm sorry I bothered you, Michael," she gets up from her chair and begins to walk back towards the door, "I'll just go. Good day, Mr Jacks—"

"Wait," I call. "Look, I'll call Becky right now; ask her what she thinks. At the end of the day, it's her house too, so I can't have final say."

She gives a grateful smile, "Thank you so much... honestly, this is gonna help so much."

I take out my phone, and dial Becky's number. It rings a few times, before she finally answers.

"Hey, Michael," she greets.

"Hey, listen sweetheart. Remember a short while back, when I came home late from grocery shopping because of that girl?"

"I remember... why?"

"Well..." I scratch the back of my head, a little nervous, "She's just come to the Medical Practice right now, and she's in a bad situation..."

"Yeah..." she ushers me on.

"And, well, she needs somewhere to stay for a few d—"

"She's asking to stay here, isn't she?" Becky asks bluntly.

"Uh, well... yeah; her and her sons. I wanted to call you first, and ask, because I didn't just want to bring them over without your permission," I explain.

The line goes silent for a brief moment, until I hear her sigh, "As long as it's only for a few days, okay. But don't be doing anything I'll make you regret."

"Okay, thanks babe. I'll tell her. I'll see you in about an hour."

"That you will."

"I love you."

"Love you too," she replies.

I hang up, and look over at Virginia, "She said you guys can stay a few days... but she also said that we basically shouldn't repeat history with the whole... kiss thing."

She snickers softly, "I wasn't planning to, don't worry. Oh, I'm so glad she's letting me and my boys stay. Of course, I'll need to go pick up Jason and Ollie from home, and then we can go straight to yours whenever you're ready."

"Right, right," I nod. "Well, my shift's over now, so all I have to do is get changed, then we can go."

--

We've just collected Jason and Ollie from their house, and now we're driving to mine. I realise how awkward these next few days could potentially be, but I'm going to try and make it so that Becky and Virginia get along.

Jason and Ollie are really sweet. Jason – I've found out – is actually thirteen, and Ollie is ten. The first time I met them, I estimated their ages to be those ages, so I was correct.

Soon, I pull into the driveway, and I allow the others to get out the car. I help them with their luggage, heading inside.

"Sweetheart, I'm back!" I call as I enter the house.

"Are the others here?" she asks from the living room.

"Yeah!"

I arrive in the living room, where I find Becky with the warmest smile she can possibly muster, and she gets up to kiss me in greeting.

"It's only a few days," I assure her.

"A lot can happen in three days," she replies, slightly sternly.

"Nothing will happen," I assert.

"Hmm."

She looks behind me, and I turn my head to see Virginia and her boys standing there looking at Becky.

An awkward silence takes place between us all, but before too long, Virginia speaks up.

"Y-You must be the Becky that I've heard so much about," she offers Becky her hand, which Becky takes cautiously and shakes.

"And you must be Virginia," she answers somewhat stiffly.

"Wow, you're a beautiful girl," Virginia compliments Becky.

"Thank you. You... too."

Becky then forces a smile, and tries to seem warm and welcoming, "Should I take your bags and whatnot up to where you'll be sleeping?"

"Oh, no, that's okay. I'll do it," Virginia answers.

"Right," Becky exhales. She averts her eyes to Ollie and Jason, "And these are your boys?"

"Yes. Jason," she points at the older son, "And Ollie," and then at the younger son. "Thirteen and ten. I heard you have a daughter – Miracle?"

"Yes, yeah, um... she's sleeping right now," Becky answers.

"Aww. Michael says she's fairly new in the world."

"Yeah, she's just over three months old, now."

"Oh! Lovely!" Virginia turns to her sons, "Now listen guys; you're gonna have to be as quiet as possible because Michael and Becky have a baby girl, okay?"

"Yes mommy," Ollie says.

Jason simply nods, already putting the "Be quiet" rule into action.

"Alright then," Becky starts. "Uh, Virginia, you and the boys will be sleeping in the guest room. Up the stairs, second on the left. It's the only door without a sign on. You can't miss it," she explains.

Virginia nods, before leading her sons off out the room, and up the stairs.

I shift my gaze to Becky, and she sighs. I know she dislikes the idea of them being here, but there's nothing I could do to make it less awkward, apart from ask them to leave. But... that would seem rude of me.

"I know you don't like this," I state.

"It's not perfect, but I'm willing to make an effort," she answers.

"See, this is why I love you," I smile down at her.

She tries to keep a straight face, but it doesn't last long, and she smiles fully.

Becky's POV

"Well, just so long as I can get a small dose of medication tonight, then that's okay," I reason.

"Oh, girl... with guests?" he suddenly pulls me closer to him, and his voice becomes husky, "That's a little dangerous, sweetheart."

"Dangerous, huh?" I challenge. "Don't you like living dangerously?"

He smirks sexily, biting his lip to try and control it, "With you, hell yes."

He pulls me even closer to him, and I feel him growing slightly hard against me, due to how close we are.

"Save it for later, doctor," I tease, stroking his crotch gently, and earning a moan from him.

"Fine, fine, okay," he replies.

Moments later, we hear footsteps coming down the stairs, and Michael begins to panic due to the noticeable... event happening in his crotch area.

"Becky!" he whispers nervously.

I quickly stand in front of him, just as the others enter the room. I grin at them all, and clasp my hands together.

"Your room's okay?" I ask more politely now.

"Yes, it's wonderful. Thank you," Virginia replies, seeming a little more comfortable around me now.

"Great," I beam.

I turn around to look at Michael, who looks a little anxious that they'll see his little mishap, and I can't help but chuckle a little.

Hmm, maybe having these guys staying will be fun.

I had to with Michael's "mishap". xD I found it funny to be honest; I'm sorry. :3 Anyway, will Virginia or her boys do anything bad? We shall see. Hope you liked this chapter. :)
