17.REAL LIFE
There was only a few minutes until the show went live, and Joe was waiting nervously backstage, legs shaking, hands clammy. His nerves only slightly went down when Harper walked up to him.
"You okay?" She asked, putting a hand on his arm.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm alright. I'm ready," The older boy nodded, unconvincingly, "Did you believe that?"
"Not at all." Harper shook her head, making them both laugh slightly.
"One minute!" The stage manager called, making every one get into their places on the stairs.
Harper gently took Joe's hand in hers, as the music started, meaning Tess and Claudia were about to start the show.
"You'll be okay," The dancer quietly reassured him, "All that dream proves is how much you want and care about this."
"Really?" Joe whispered, "Are you sure."
"I've been watching you train, Joe. You're amazing. I believe in you." Harper said, looking up at him, smoothing down his incredibly gelled hair.
In that moment, it seemed that it was all that Joe needed to feel better. And right before their names were called, he leaned down to the shorter girl and whispered in her ear, "By the way, you look really beautiful."
