Today was video chatting day, it was the day that both Sam and Riley got to speak to their families via the government-approved webcam that they set up so their pararescueman can speak to their loved ones.
"Diaz, 2 minutes." Someone from outside the tent warned Riley who tried to hide the frown on his face but it seemed his Mom heard because she suddenly had a weary look on her face. "Mom." Riley groaned scrubbing his hand across his face. "I'm sorry Mijo, I just can't help it. I worry you know." Maricela admits looking at Gabriel with a worried look.
"It's true, she does," Robin spoke from behind Maricela, she rolled her eyes before typing something on her phone an action which Riley couldn't help but smile at. He knew that she didn't care about the calls but seeing her doing actions like this made the call seem relaxing and like Riley was actually in the room with them rather than Riley being on a battlefield.
"When are you coming home, son?" Gabriel asks leaning his body weight onto the desk and grabbing onto Maricela's hand which was wrapped around his arm.
Riley was going to keep his soon-to-be discharge from the airforce a secret but after he saw his Mom's face he changed his mind so he can ease her worries. "Actually about that-" Riley was cut off by someone peeking their head in the tent and pointing towards the clock which showed that Riley was over his allotted time to talk to his family. "Never mind, I'll tell you another time." Riley plastered on a fake smile and moved so he was sitting straight.
Maricela frowns before she puts her fingers up to the screen so Riley does the same. "I love you Mijo, be safe." Maricela raised an eyebrow. "Yes, Ma'm. I love you too. Love you Dad, love you, Robin." Riley smiled as he looked at his parents and sister who gave him a thumbs up in acknowledgment.
They said their last goodbyes and Riley ended the call, he rubbed a hand over his face as he scooted his chair back and stood up. He opened the tent flap and walked out, he smiled and raised his hand in acknowledgment when Sam was the next one to go in the tent. "Sorry for taking so long," Riley said with a scrunch of his nose. "No worries." Sam winked at Riley before he sat in the chair and started the video chat.
He knows he should give them privacy but he can't help but overhear, he smiled when he hears Darlene ask him something which makes Sam laugh. Riley crosses his arms and lightly rests his body against the tent so he can listen in on the conversation, luckily not many people are paying him mind until Lina walks over to him. "Why are you being creepy?" Lina asks with amusement in her voice as she crosses her arms looking at him.
Riley can feel himself getting red in the face but he crosses it off as the heat and not the embarrassment that he's feeling. "I get the right off." Riley scrunches his nose up at Lina as he makes the excuse, that he would move if Sam asked him to but he hasn't. "Excuse me for a second Mom." Riley hears Sam say and then they can hear the crunch of dirt under his shoes as he's walking toward them. "Hey," Sam says smugly as he looks at Lina and Riley, Lina immediately puts her hands up in surrender. "Hey, I had no part in this." Riley scoffs at Lina and watches as she slowly backs away.
"I know, I wanted Riley anyway," Sam says boldly as he lets his head rest against the tent and looks at Riley fondly. "Don't you have a family to talk to?" Riley says carefully with a raised eyebrow. "Not all my family, I need you with me, Riles." And if anything made Riley melt when it came out of Sam's mouth, it was that. "Fine." Riley rolled his eyes as he followed Sam back into the tent and towards the computer.
"I brought Riley!" Sam announces as he takes a seat in the place he was before, Riley shakes his head fondly as he moves a chair over so he can sit beside Sam and be in the frame of the camera. "Hi, Mrs. and Mr. Wilson. And Sarah of course." Riley waves at them before looking at Sam with a smile on his face, the tent rooms were private so they can send cute little looks to each other without someone seeing, and if they did see then it would fall back on the solider looking as they were imposing on a private moment.
"Enough of that child, Call us Darlene and Paul," Paul said with a smile as he leans back into his chair letting his hands rest in his lap. "I hear you're going to be coming home with our son. Should we set up the guest room?" Darlene says giving the two men a wink, the action makes Riley burst out in laughter that he has to bring his hand up to cover his mouth to stifle his laughter. "Yes, you defiantly should Mom." Sam rolls his eyes fondly as he reaches under the table to grab Riley's hand an action which makes Riley flinch even though they're alone.
Sam looks at Riley softly with a raised eyebrow which is silently asking if he's okay to which Riley responds with a slight nod of his head. "I would love that Mrs. Wilson, I was planning on spending a little bit with you guys just to get adjusted before I go back to my parents' house if that's alright with you." Darlene looked at Paul softly before putting a hand on her heart and nodding quickly. "Of course it's alright, you're always welcome here Riley. I hope you know that."
"Yea, you got to play the Wilson Family Games, so you're stuck with us now," Sarah adds from her spot halfway off of the screen, the comment makes Riley look down so they wouldn't see the tears beading into his eyes, he never thought he would get this so to have this with the best person of Riley's life is something special.
