Architecture
Hello! I hope you've had a nice day so far. Today I'm back for more world building, and I'm going to give you some tips on how architecture shapes your world.
Like some other topics recently, as far as I know there aren't any online posts about this topic. So unfortunately for you, you'll have to sit through my own advice.
Tip 1 - Consude the materials used for building
For example, do people use candyfloss and chocolate to build cottages? Stone? Wood? Futuristic metal stuff? This links into how rich/poor your area is and what materials they have available.
Tip 2 - Consider the building styles used
I've never studied architecture, so I know next to nothing about historical styles, but a quick Google image search will show you the common features of each style. Does your candyfloss village have its own unique style? Or does the futuristic city take inspiration from Renaissance styles? It would be cool to mix and match styles!
Tip 3 - Draw your place
If you can draw well, then I suggest making a quick sketch on the loose paper of your place. If you're artistically challenged like me, you can still get creative and imagine your world. A Pinterest board, a collage or even a Playdough model can be used. The point of this is to get your imagination moving and imagine the place in front of you.
Tip 4 - Use inspiration from real life
Is there a city that reminds you of your book's realistic setting? Or does a gingerbread house make you hungry and imagine living in one? Take a look around you. Inspiration can come from anywhere!
That's all for today! Any questions or suggestions are welcome as always.
