Yuri

“Let’s talk. Now.”

I glanced down at his hand gripping my wrist, then back up to meet his eyes — a strange mix of seriousness and softness that made it hard to look away.

I wasn’t feeling well. My thoughts were cloudy, my chest felt heavy. I didn’t have the energy to argue or explain the whirlwind in my head — the anxiety, the confusion, the not knowing where to even start.

So I stayed silent.

His grip loosened as he noticed my hesitation. “Are you okay? Why do you have bandages on your arms?”

His voice cut through the haze like a blade.

“Oh... that’s nothing,” I murmured.

“Are you sure—”

“Stop. Please.” I sighed, running a hand through my hair. The earlier anxiety was quickly being replaced with something else — frustration.

He studied me for a moment, then refocused.

“So... about what you wanted to talk about,” he said gently.

I looked at him, debating. Was it okay? Was it finally time to say it? Say everything?

“I-I’ll tell you tomorrow,” I mumbled. “I need to talk to Rin first.”

I turned to leave, but he reached out and pulled me gently back.

“You’re lying.”

My brows shot up. “Weird of you to just assume that.”

I turned away again, heading for the door.

But then I heard it—soft, firm, certain:

“You’re hiding something, Yuri.”

I froze.

“I know it.”

My heart started racing. I turned around slowly. “What... do you mean?”

He took a step closer. “I’m going to be direct. Do you have a supernatural ability?”

I stared at him, stunned. How... how does he know?

My pulse was thudding in my ears.

Finally, I sighed in defeat. “...Yes. I do.”

He placed his hands on my shoulders, his gaze unwavering. “I do too.”

I blinked. “What?”

His words echoed in my mind, and then so did Rin’s.

“After all, you’re not the only one with an ability.”

I slowly nodded, letting the reality sink in. Neither of us said anything right away. There was a quiet understanding between us, unspoken but undeniable.

His eyes softened. “Would you still like to talk? About what you were going to say?”

He gestured for us to sit at our desks. I followed, slowly, nervously.

Okay. This was it.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself, and met his eyes.

Then I told him everything.

From the moment I saw him… the dreams… my ability… the emotions I couldn’t explain… all of it. My voice shook slightly, anxiety clinging to every word. I didn’t know how he would react. I didn’t even know what I wanted him to say. But I needed answers — about him, about me, and most of all, about my parents.

He listened quietly, then reached for my hand — curled tightly into a fist on my lap — and held it.

“Yuri,” he said softly. “I think I know why everything started when you saw me.”

I furrowed my brows, anticipation rising. He looked down, taking a deep breath.

“My parents... they once took my sister to an orphanage.”

I blinked, confused. I wasn’t sure where he was going with this.

“I never saw her again after that.”

That part I hadn’t seen — not through my ability, at least. I only ever got pieces. This was new.

“I’m sorry,” I said softly.

He tightened his hold on my hand.

“But don’t you get it? You saw a memory of me... with people you believe are your parents. And I remember that day. That scene — it really happened.”

I nodded slowly. “And…?”

His head dropped lower. He exhaled, trembling slightly.

“So what if... just what if...”

He looked back up.

“You’re my sister?”

I froze.

I didn’t know what to say. I had no memories of a brother. I didn’t know anything about my past, my parents... it was all a blur. But in that moment — in the silence that followed — something in me clicked.

It felt right.

Not the kind of right you question, but the kind your heart just knows.

His head lowered again, and I heard it — quiet sobs. My chest clenched.

“W-Wait, don’t cry—”

He suddenly pulled me into a hug, tight and desperate.

“I missed you… I always wondered what it would’ve been like if you were around. My step-parents are always gone. I felt so alone.”

“Shh... it’s okay,” I whispered, patting his back gently. “Everything’s okay now.”

We pulled away after a while, still stunned, still overwhelmed. Then we looked at each other… and started laughing.

We didn’t even know why. Maybe it was the tension. Maybe we just needed a release. But in that moment, it felt good.

“Bye, Maya! Bye, Rin!”

I waved at my friends and walked toward the gate where Sunghoon waited for me. He offered to walk me home since I was still sick, and I didn’t argue.

He smiled as I reached him, and I smiled back.

“Yuri, who do you live with?” he asked as we started walking.

The question caught me off guard. “Oh… just my stepdad,” I said quietly. “My stepmom left us a long time ago.”

“I see,” he nodded. “As for me, my stepmom and dad are always away for business. I barely even see them.”

I chuckled. “I know that.”

He raised a brow. “How?”

“My powers, silly.”

He laughed. “Oh, right. You can see the past. That’s kind of funny.”

“Funny? It’s cool!” I frowned. “And I can control when to trigger it, by the way. It activates through touch.”

He nodded. “Interesting. Mine lets me see the future.”

I stopped in my tracks, eyes wide. “WHAT?! THAT’S SO MUCH COOLER.”

He shrugged. “I guess.”

“What’s the catch?”

“I can’t see the future of anyone related to me. Or if they’re connected to someone who is.”

My shoulders drooped. “Aww, man!”

He laughed as we turned the corner, approaching my house.

My steps slowed.

I suddenly remembered Jungwon.

He used to walk me home too.

“What are you thinking about?” Sunghoon asked.

I blinked out of my thoughts. “Huh?”

“You always zone out,” he smiled. “You’ve got a lot on your mind. So... what was it this time?”

“Oh... nothing,” I said, brushing it off.

But as I reached for my door, he gently held my shoulder.

“One of my abilities is I can detect lies too,” he said with a smirk.

My eyes widened. “You have two abilities?!”

“Mhm.”

I sighed. Of course he’d know.

I was just about to confess what else was bothering me when he patted my shoulder and motioned for me to go inside.

I nodded, reaching for the knob.

“If you’re thinking about him,” he said from behind, “you should talk to him.”

I froze, glancing back — only to see that same mischievous smile before he turned and walked away.

All I could do was watch as he disappeared down the street.

“What the…"
