SYNOPSIS!

1922. Birmingham, England.

ROSE SWANSON WISHES FOR NOTHING MORE THAN TO BE FREE from the clutches of her overbearing father. The Viscount of a small village on the outskirts of Birmingham, Victor Swanson is an intimidating and powerful leader respected by many. And he has an infamous protective streak when it comes to the lives of his daughters that serves to ward off any 'unsuitable' men from pursuing them. He can often be heard — sat in the living room of his imposing manor located right in the middle of his sprawling country estate — ranting to anyone who will listen that he simply wants the best for his children.

    Or rather, his idea of what's best for them.

Amongst his peers in high society, Victor is regarded as somewhat of a social climber. And what better way to advance your station than to marry each of your beautiful daughters off to a man with a good name and fortune? There is one, small problem, however. Rose Swanson does not want to marry a man merely because he's some stuffy nobleman or rich business owner that will make her family look better.

    She wants to marry for love.

After losing her older (and only) brother in the war when she was younger, a now seventeen-year-old Rose is left with the saddening notion of life being too short. And she especially does not want to waste away the little time she is granted on earth bound to a man she hates.

Rose want to be free. To forge her own path and experience all the wonders of the world before she joins her brother in a grave.

And besides, why shouldn't she? After all, Rose and the other women left behind while the men went off to fight in France had managed perfectly fine back home without their help. Times are changing, and a woman no longer needs to abide by the instruction of the men around her in order to have a good future.

Rose has proven time and time again that she is more than capable of making important decisions for herself. So when a chance encounter at an auction in Doncaster leads to Rose meeting Michael Gray — and the two of them strike up a relationship of sorts — she can't help but see this as her way out of the future her family has laid out for her.

But not everyone is as willing to accept the changing world as she is, and getting involved with the Peaky Blinders is always a dangerous gamble.

    One that too often ends with death.

AUTHOR'S NOTE!

— I'm super excited for this fic! Peaky Blinders is my current hyper-fixation and this plot came to me in a dream lol, so this book is already vv special to me and I can't wait to share it with you all!!

— Also, I have a complicated relationship with Michael in the show. I genuinely believe they had a bigger role in mind for the character at first, but after Finn Cole got cast in Animal Kingdom it changed because of scheduling conflicts. It makes sense considering the set up for Michael in s2&3 compared to what happens in 4-6. The fact that he spends most of s4 off screen and the sudden abrupt ambition he develops to usurp his family in season 5 makes me believe it was more likely he was originally set up and intended to be Tommy's heir (with many lines alluding to this in s2&3) or his powerful ultimate foe (more than the rushed enemy who didn't do much that we got in s5&6) but the plot was watered down and hurried along once the actor got busy.

And whilst I won't be writing what I believe to be the original arc for Michael in this fic (maybe I will in the future tho, who knows? 😉) I am going to try to wrap up his arc much neater than the show did and much more consistently to how he was written in the second and third seasons. This is a fanFICTION after all, so some thing will be different from the show, and a slight AU is to be expected.

— I am also by no means a historical expert lol. Most of my knowledge I get from period dramas and google, so if certain things are inaccurate please don't shout at me!! I will research specific things if necessary, but this is a fiction book after all, so expect creative liberties to be taken. This is my fic/plot, so if I have to sacrifice historical accuracy for the drama, I WILL 😘
