Unrequited Love

Note: This is another angsty fic that the BBS discord asked for. I hope you enjoy it!

Pairing: Vanogla

Daithi had a secret. It was a harmless secret, but it had problems.

The context of this secret should be known first. Daithi is gay, that's not a secret. He accidentally came out to the whole school already, so that's out of the way. Plus half of the school is gay anyways. He is also a huge nerd, one known for being weird.

Now for the secret: he's in love with Evan Fong, the school's popular boy. He couldn't help it; Evan was just so pretty.

Sexuality isn't the problem, as Evan himself is gay. Again, no one at this school has a problem with that.

The problem is status. Evan is on the top, while Daithi is way at the bottom.

But Daithi had a plan. It was a good plan (he made it, of course it was a good plan). His plan was that he was going to write a note from a "secret admirer" asking for a date. When Evan said yes (he had to say yes, it always happened that way in the movies. Plus he had rigged it anyways), they would meet up, fall in love, etc. It was foolproof, Daithi knew it. He had already written the note, now all that was left was to place the letter in such a place that Evan would have to see it, but only Evan could see it.

This stumped Daithi at first. How was he going to get the perfect spot?

Then it hit him: His locker!

Of course! It was in every cliche high school movie, it had to work!

So when the bell rang, he quickly made it to Evan's locker before Evan did, stuck the letter in there, and went back to his own locker. Luckily his locker was in the same hallway as Evan's, so he could see the whole thing unfold.

He saw Evan round the corner as he usually did, and Daithi sighed dreamily. Evan had that confidence that was just so attractive.

Evan was about to open his locker when his friend Tyler came around, stopping at Evan's locker. Daithi clenched his jaw. Fuckin' cockblock, he thought. Evan laughed at something Tyler said and opened his locker. The letter came falling out, landing at Evan's feet. Daithi's breath hitched. This is it, he thought. This is the moment that I get the guy.

Evan picked it up and examined it. He looked up at Tyler and seemed to be asking a question (Daithi was too far away to hear anything). Tyler took it, and opened it up. He snorted and ripped the letter into pieces.

Daithi's eyes widened and his mouth dropped. What a fuckin' prick!

Evan seemed a little upset, which gave Daithi some hope. At least he was interested in wanting to read it.

Now the problem was where was he going to put the letter now?

He decided he'd figure it out at home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day he had a new plan and more hope. Today's plan was to somehow put it either on or in Evan's backpack without him noticing. It was gonna be difficult to do, but he was determined.
Before the bell rang, he saw Evan sitting alone on one of the benches. He was on his phone for a second before he sighed, took his bookbag off and walked away.
Well, so much for being difficult.
Daithi ran over to the bookbag, hastily put the letter in and ran off. He found a spot where he could see Evan.
Evan came back seconds later. He put his phone back into his pocket and looked at his bag. He stopped when he saw the letter sticking out of his bookbag. He looked around before he pulled it out. He opened it carefully, and Daithi's heart began pounding.
Evan read it, grabbed a pen and started writing something down. Daithi's eyes widened. He didn't even pick one of the boxes - he actually wrote down a response! It had to be good, he knew it.
Tyler came around the corner, and Evan quickly threw the letter into the bushes. Tyler didn't seem to notice and just started a conversation.
The bell rang, and Evan and Tyler were off. Daithi ran over to the bushes, grabbed the letter, and ran to class. He was trying so hard not to squeal; this was his day! Oh, he couldn't wait to take a look at what Evan had written. But he had to get through classes first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Daithi sprinted out of the classroom when the bell rang for lunch. This was his chance to read what Evan had written on his letter.

There was a certain hallway he sat in that was near the lunchroom. He really wasn't supposed to be in there, but it was the only quiet place he where he could daydream.

He snuck out of the lunchroom with his lunch and quietly entered the hallway. He made sure to shut the door as quiet as he could before turning around.

He stopped when he heard a noise. He looked up.

There was Evan.

And Tyler.

Together.

Making out.

Daithi used his free hand to cover his mouth and quiet the gasp. He left without a word, but sat beside the hallway outside.

No, no, no! That wasn't right, he was- he was supposed to fall in love with me, not him, Daithi thought. What went wrong?

He finally remembered the letter. With shaky hands, he pulled it out of his bag and opened it up. He squeezed his eyes shut after reading it. He was trying not to cry, not to lose his cool. He ended up crying anyways, his tears ruining the ink on the page.

Hey, I know it's you, Daithi. I think it's real sweet and all with the letter, but I'm with someone else. And even if I wasn't, you aren't exactly my type. Sorry bud.
- Evan F.
