Unfulfilled Role (2)

'Hm...?'

Cale groggily opened his eyes with a small groan. His whole body felt extremely sore and heavy, but he wasn't falling. He felt someone tightening their hold around his waist, and he realized that he was leaning against them for support, an arm limply placed on their shoulder.

"You're finally awake." A chuckle came from beside him, and Cale gazed hazily towards the person who's putting on a signature shit-eating grin.

"Kim Dokja...?" He rasped out weakly. His throat felt dry. How long has it been since he last drank something?

"Don't speak," Another familiar voice came from behind him. The man had spoken sternly, and it was fairly easy to recognize it.

"Yoo Joong— cough!"

Dokja frowned. "Hey, we told you to not speak," He reprimanded, and Cale naturally ignored him.

"Wh- What happened...?"

Kim Dokja turned his attention back on the road and sighed. Instead of answering the question, he commented, "You're a really reckless— no, you're a crazy bastard, you know that?"

Cale's expression twisted in confusion. "What are you talking abou—?"

"Look out!" Yoo Joonghyuk's urgent voice warned them just as the hidden redhead caught the sight of glistening steel under the sunset.

Through the sudden adrenaline, he tried to move, but his body was too weak and the sharp arrow was approaching fast. He widened his eyes when he felt a strong push, and his hair fluttered in the wind, but between the long strands, he caught sight of the steel piercing Kim Dokja's chest as blood splattered in the air like rose petals.

"KIM DOKJA—!"

Gasp!

Cale abruptly sat up, his heart pounding wildly as he tried catching his breath. Cold sweats adorned his forehead, dripping down his chin and onto the cold floor. His head throbs and he gently massaged his forehead. "Ow, what the hell... What was that?"

It was a dream. Well, more of a nightmare, actually.

Something cold nudged his other hand, and he looked down to see the water rabbit watching him in concern.

— Cale, are you okay?

Super Rock's voice echoed in his head, followed by Cheapskate.

— Ya know, I'm all in for wrecking stuff, but I still think this might be a bad idea. And that's coming from me!

— He's right. Will you be fine? Maybe you should've stayed with the others...

The Thief interjected worriedly.

Cale shakes his head. "I'm okay. It's not like I can just leave and disappear."

— But doing this is a bit... I'm just concerned whether you'll really be able to. If it's destroying multiple castles, then fine. However, this isn't something you've ever done before!

— I-I agree with the Thief. *Sob* You shouldn't p-push yourself, Cale! *Sooob*

— JUST WALK THE #### BACK TO THEM! YOU'RE ####### SMART! DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID!

Cale sighed.

'Noisy.'

He decided to internally mute the loud voices. Besides, he's not dumb enough to jump blindly into danger without proper plans that he can guarantee will work out.

"Come on," He said to the water bunny. "You can be my eyes and ears, can't you?"

The bunny hopped through the air and landed on his shoulders, its ears twitching in delight.

Cale smiled. "Great."

He pulled out something from his spatial pocket bag. A glowing golden whip was held in his hand. Soon enough, he could hear an invisible crowd surrounding him.

'Cale! Is that you?! Is that really you?!'

'Ooh! I can't believe we're in another world! How thrilling!'

'This is so exciting! What do we do, Cale?! Tell us what to do!'

'War. Destruction. Death. LET'S MAKE CHAOS! MWUAHAHAHAHA!'

Upon hearing the vicious words, Cale tried not to frown as he pulled up his mask and black hood. No channels were directing their focus on him, but inside, many constellations would be watching, so his plan should go smoothly.

"All of you disperse and tell me about the situation inside. Don't get caught."

The rabbit nodded eagerly.

'Aye aye, Captain!'

'Of course! We'll be right back, Cale!'

'We'll do as you said!'

'Live. Love. Peace. LET'S GOOOOO!'

Cale watched them fly their separate ways into the station with an unreadable expression on his pale face.

Lee Jihye took a step forward, but it was the signal that made Na Bori dash towards her, pulling the long haired girl into a tight embrace. Bori's hands scrambled to hold her, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing and is making sure whether Jihye is truly present. "You- You're here... Y-You're okay! Thank god- F*ck, I thought I lost you," She said, her voice cracking as she buried her face into her friend's shoulder.

Meanwhile, Jihye was left frozen, her eyes still widening before her arms slowly circled Na Bori, returning the desperate hug. "I told you, didn't I?" She let out a short laugh that sounded like a breath of relief. "I said we'll see each other again."

Na Bori stayed silent and simply tightened her hold, afraid to let go and watch the other disappear again.

"Um," Someone had spoken, completely breaking the atmosphere. "Sorry to interrupt but what the f*ck is going on?" Namwoon asked in confusion as he raised a hand.

Everyone else only looked at him blankly.

Han Donghoon held back a groan as he face palmed. 'He seriously can't read the room.'

Na Bori slowly raised her head and turned towards Namwoon with a sharp glare, causing the boy to automatically put his hands in the air to surrender. She rolled her eyes before wiping the leftover tears on her cheeks.

Jihye stared at Namwoon with an iffy look, her gaze practically saying 'who is this weird guy?', then she finally scanned the faces of everyone. "Bori-ya, are you with these people?"

Bori nodded. "Yeah."

"..." Lee Jihye seemed to be momentarily contemplating something. "Follow me."

They followed Lee Jihye and entered Chungmuro. Yoo Sangah saw the shattered screen door of the platform and muttered, “… It's quite chaotic.”

As they climbed up from the tracks of railway line 3, they saw some people sitting down.

[You have entered Chungmuro.]

[The third scenario is currently in progress.]

[#GIR-8761 channel is active.]

[#BIR-3642 channel is active.]

From Chungmuro onwards, the size of the scenario grew and the dokkaebi channels increased.

'Bihyung and Saga would have a hard time, though I doubt Saga's the type to care,' Kim Dokja thought as he observed the pop up windows.

Some middle-aged people saw them and waved their hands.

“Oh, little samurai. You brought new people?”

“Yes.” Lee Jihye frowned at the small group of people. “Are you drunk again?”

“Hahaha! What is there to do other than drink when the world has become like this?”

These people seemed relaxed, very unlike those who were experiencing a disaster. It was natural since they were wearing the uniform of soldiers. It was definitely different from Gumho Station who had a lively aura around them, not like the previous shelter was exactly normal either.

“But did your friends come through the tunnel? How great… Won’t they have a lot of coins?’

Then one of the middle-aged men turned to Yoo Sangah, but soon stiffened when he caught a glimpse of piercing golden eyes glaring at him. He tried to look back, only to see Na Bori staring at him warily.

'What was that? I thought I saw yellow eyes. Did I see it wrong?' The man wondered.

"Kang-ssi, let's go," Another man called out to him, and he reluctantly followed along.

The middle-aged people turned away and disappeared into transit line 4.

Lee Jihye raised an eyebrow. "Weird. Thought they'd try causing more trouble," She remarked quietly to herself, but loud enough for the others to hear.

She turned to the newly arrived party, specifically Na Bori, a wide grin plastered on her face. "Do you wanna come with me for a bit? I still have food that Master cooked for me. You absolutely have to try it. Screw Gordon Ramsay, Master is way better!"

Na Bori deadpanned. "You haven't even met Gordon Ramsay."

"Good, I don't want to either. There's like 8 out of 10 chances that he's going to call me the ultimate idiot sandwich."

"Pft. Let's go and see what this Master of yours is made of then."

Just when the two girls were about to leave, Kim Dokja snapped out of his daze. "Wait."

They stopped and looked at him.

"Is Yoo Joonghyuk here?"

There was vigilance in Lee Jihye's eyes, while Na Bori felt confused at the mention of the familiar name.

“… Who are you?” Jihye asked warily.

“I am a companion of Yoo Joonghyuk who came back alive,” Kim Dokja replied with ease.

“…Companion? How is that possible?” Lee Jihye stared at him with suspicious eyes and the man shrugged shamelessly. "Yah, Bori-ya, you sure you can trust this ahjussi?"

Na Bori glanced at them back and forth before nodding slowly. She can more or less come to the conclusion that both Lee Jihye and Kim Dokja are involved with the edgy ahjussi, Yoo Joonghyuk. It was a bit strange considering she also knows Joonghyuk and that all of them seem connected somehow.

“That guy will understand if you tell him. Where is Yoo Jonghyuk now?”

“… Master isn’t here right now.”

Na Bori blinked. 'Grumpy Ahjussi is Jihye's Master?'

“Really? This is difficult. I have something I need to say to him.”

Lee Jihye’s expression distorted as she stared at Kim Dokja passively. "Wait here. I'll go look for him." She turned her head towards Bori and patted her shoulder. "We'll catch up soon, you better not run away."

Bori laughed. "I won't, you idiot."

Jihye walked away, leaving the group in peace.

While taking care of the unconscious Jung Heewon, they heard about Chungmuro from a boy. Along with Lee Jihye, this boy was one of Yoo Joonghyuk’s followers.

Of course, Kim Dokja wasn’t listening properly. The story of psychopath Yoo Joonghyuk’s heroism wasn’t interesting to him.

They talked about the station's condition and food supplies too.

Lee Hyunsung was busy taking notes at the information pouring out before he asks, “Then how is your drinking water?”

“We give food or coins to the ‘Landlord Alliance’ upstairs in exchange.”

“…Landlord Alliance?”

Kim Dokja sat straight up and the boy hesitantly opened his mouth.

“They are the landlords in charge of the Chungmuro area. They occupy the upper floors and we call them the Landlord Alliance.”

Chungmuro’s Landlord Alliance. It was a name that appeared in Ways of Survival.

“What type of people are they?”

“Well, what should I say… They are just landlords.”

This answer was the correct answer in a sense. They were landlords. Building owners who received fixed taxes. But Kim Dokja knew better.

"Dokja Ahjussi! I'm going to the toilet with Sangah Unnie," Bori said, causing the man to tilt his head.

The timing was unexpected, but after seeing the blushing Yoo Sangah, he understood.

The boy overhead the conversation and said, “You need to go up to the second underground floor for the toilet, but it won’t be easy to enter.”

“… Has something happened?”

“Yes. I think it's better to see directly… I’m going up too, would you like to go with me?’

“Let’s go.”

Dokja was the one who said it. Of course, it wasn’t to go to the bathroom. he had to go up and check a few things.

Recently, Yoo Joonghyuk’s movements were different from the ‘third regression’ that he knew. The stories are changing rapidly, so he needed to be clear about the gap.

The party went up to the third underground level, carrying Jung Heewon who was still unconscious.

“That, by the way… what exactly are those things?”

Yoo Sangah pointed to a square tile.

The tiles were also present on the platform of line 3. Green tiles that were 1 pyeong in size. Looking at the details, they saw something written in the air above the tile.

[Green Zone 0/1]

“The scenario name is ‘green zone’ and these tiles are called rooms.”

Near the tile, two men were fighting each other. They were fighting over the tile. It was Lee Hyunsung who asked this time.

“Why are those people fighting over it?”

The boy looked a bit reluctant. It was like talking to them would be a threat to his survival.

“You will know once you arrive at the second underground floor.”

As they climbed up to the higher floors, there were more fights over rooms, and the group discussed about the way the Landlord Alliance had taken over most of them.

“Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t take any action? Didn’t he save you?”

“That…”

The boy’s face became noticeably darker at my question. The boy looked sullen for a while before barely being able to speak.

“He told us to stand on our own…”

Kim Dokja knew. Of course Yoo Joonghyuk would say something like this. Perhaps Yoo Joonghyuk never told them to follow him. They were fascinated by the overwhelming force that Yoo Jonghyuk showed and had hopeful dreams. How pitiful.

Not long after, they finally arrived. There was tension on the boy’s face.

“We have to be careful from here onwards.”

They really should've listened more closely to that advice.

[The character ‘Lee Gilyoung’ has invaded private property!]

[The character ‘Gong Pildu’ has activated ‘Armed Zone Lv. 3!]

There was a whirring sound and mini turrets resembling gatling guns rose from the ground. They were aiming at Lee Gilyoung.

[If you don’t follow the recommendations, all nearby turrets will fire immediately.]

The man spoke with a big smile, "Give me money."

"This crazy—!" Kim Namwoon was about to leap forward to smack the bastard that had threateningly stroked Gilyoung's head, but before he could cross the line, Lee Hyunsung already grabbed him.

Unexpectedly, an arm snatched the confused Lee Gilyoung. Han Donghoon pulled him to his side, shielding the boy. On his shoulder, Igneel growled, flashing his sharp teeth as his bronze eyes glowed orange.

The man seemed surprised at the sight before he laughed.

“Ah- hahaha! What is this? Are you his older brother? Shouldn’t the older sibling pay 500 coins instead?”

Igneel's growl grew more vicious, and Kim Dokja felt like something dangerous is about to occur.

"Stand down, little guy," Donghoon told the dragon calmly. "We don't want to burn the whole station down, do we?"

Igneel seemed to protest, smoke already escaping from his snout and mouth.

"I know. We can do that later," Donghoon responded, and Igneel reluctantly agreed, finally backing down.

When they were about to step back, they heard a voice.

"Hey, I know that kid."

Han Donghoon stiffened.

"Isn't he the rumored kid from Dongmyo Station? The leader with great internet skills who got kidnapped or something."

"Oh, really?"

"Well, damn. What are you doing here then, kiddo?"

Donghoon slowly took a step back at the looks directed towards him. He could recognize those faces anywhere. Greed.

Igneel and Gilyoung sensed that something was wrong as they tightly clutched onto Donghoon's clothes.

When the men took a step closer, they stopped at the sight of Ruyi Bang, a golden staff, pointed at their throats. Kim Dokja stilled, staring at the one and only Sun Wukong's weapon in Na Bori's hand.

"Take another step, I'll kill you."

Na Bori was never the vicious type, but right now, the scene made everyone shudder. Kim Namwoon was the only one who's watching with a proud look on his face.

"Hey now, calm down," A man raised his arms. "We're just here to take some coins, that's all. If you don't have it, then just give the kid to us. Isn't that a fair exchange?"

'A fair exchange, my ass,' Bori cursed internally.

Suddenly, a man struck Na Bori's staff with a sword, and another lunged towards Han Donghoon.

Before he could reach the boy, Kim Dokja moved fast and hit him using the hilt of his blade, successfully knocking him out before also kicking the other man away from Na Bori.

"What are you doing? Fight someone your own size," Dokja said coldly.

'Be thankful that I stopped you before you harmed them, idiots! Who knows what Cale might do to you if he finds out?' He chastised them inside his head.

"Hey, Gong Pildu. Come out. If they keep doing this, you will die."

Finally, Gong Pildu moved.

A bench covered with various supplies. A middle-aged man sitting on top of it and reading a magazine was staring at him.

The 10 Evils.

The list and rankings were often changed according to Yoo Joonghyuk’s regression cycle, but they were the 10 people in charge of being the main villains in this world of Ways of Survival.

Chungmuro’s armed fortress master, Gong Pildu was one of the 10 Evils.

"And why would I die?" Gong Pildu spoke with disinterest.

"Yoo Joonghyuk would kill you."

Yoo Joonghyuk. The complexion of the landlords changed with one name.

“Yoo Joonghyuk? Yoo Joonghyuk caused such an uproar not long ago…”

“You bastard! What is your relationship with that guy?”

“Pildu-ssi! Isn’t this bastard suspicious?”

Kim Dokja was a bit unsure. According to the original story, Yoo Joonghyuk of the third regression should be fighting against the Landlord Alliance by now. What was he doing?

Gong Pildu stared at him with suspicious eyes. “What is your relationship with Yoo Jonghyuk?”

“We are companions separated by life and death.”

“… I don’t think it's like that?”

“Anyway, we're friendly.”

“How can I believe that?”

“If you don’t believe me, it can’t be helped. Maybe there will be damages. All I'm saying is don't provoke us. If we fight, it'll be your loss.”

Gong Pildu’s expression hardened. Even if Kim Dokja didn’t add anything, Gong Pildu would’ve noticed.

The presence of the guy coming down the escalator from B1. It would be strange if he didn’t know when the guy was giving off such a huge momentum.

“My best companion is coming.”

Yoo Joonghyuk.

Kim Dokja didn’t expect that damn regressor to be happy.

“Master, it's that person! He pretended to be Master’s companion.”

Lee Jihye cried out shrilly as she pointed to him. The main character, the lone hero of a drama, was walking by her side. He looked at him with impressively fierce eyes.

Dokja waved to him and said cheerfully, “Hi, Joonghyuk-ah!”

"..."

“Have you been well? Your face looks good?”

"..."

Lee Jihye and Gong Pildu looked between them like they couldn’t believe it. They never thought Kim Dokja would be a companion of Yoo Joonghyuk. There was a tight tension in the air.

“These people don’t believe I'm your companion. Can you tell them?”

But he knew Yoo Joonghyuk. This bastard killed easily but he kept his promises.

[A few constellations are paying attention to character Yoo Joonghyuk’s answer.]

[The constellation Demon-like Judge of Fire is observing the loyalty of Yoo Joonghyuk.]

Moreover, the constellations were paying a lot of attention.

"..."

Yoo Joonghyuk scanned his surroundings, stopping briefly at the three teenagers and the dragon— wait, a dragon?

His gaze landed back on Kim Dokja and he slowly opened his mouth. However, Dokja's words were faster.

“Ah right, it would be better if you let me use the bathroom!”

Finally, Yoo Joonghyuk pulled out a blade.
