Unfulfilled Role (3)

A reader.

A protagonist.

And a writer.

This story is about them, and Cale knew.

When he thought about it, it's a bit funny. One was willing to sacrifice himself for his companions, another one is willing to sacrifice anything to save the world, while the other is willing to sacrifice the world for that one person.

Later on, they realized that the sacrificial bastard is the world they wish to save.

Truth to be told, Cale didn't have to do this. He'd rather roll around on the bed for 50 whole years instead of involving himself in the characters' conflicts. It was none of his business and he didn't like doing bothersome things. But...

Kim Dokja's frail image overlapped with a young Kim Rok Soo, and Cale chuckled bitterly. Perhaps this is why he couldn't bring himself to leave.

He, too, wishes to save the person suffering in the book he read, just like how he wished someone would save him back then.

To him, this was a selfish act.

Cale hated the ending of this story. Because in the end, unlike him, Kim Dokja was never saved.

He felt a breeze brushing past him and heard the wind elementals talking.

'Cale, Cale! There are a lot of people inside!'

'Right. They're in every corner!'

'Just like you said, we blocked all the exits!'

'What are you planning to do?'

'Chaos. Peace. Destruction. Let's just destroy everything!'

Cale smiled underneath his hood. "Do you remember what you've done to prevent people from getting into the wind island?"

'We do, we do!'

'It was fun dancing around!'

He nodded in satisfaction. "Good. Let's do that again."

'E-Eh? Really?'

'Let's do it!'

'DESTROOOOYYYYYYY!'

The elementals cheered as they began to move.

It started as small. Wind slightly picking up within the station. Some people who felt it frowned in confusion. After all, they were underground. There's no way there would be wind here all of a sudden.

"Hey... Where is this wind coming from?" A man asked the person beside him, his tone turning wary. "Is this a hidden scenario?"

"I'm not sure... It's getting stronger too," Another replied, narrowing his eyes.

"A-Ack! That hurt!" Someone not too far away yelped loudly and raised his arm. There was a neat wound on his skin as blood dripped to the floor.

The people nearby stared in shock. They couldn't properly register it yet.

However...

Ding!

There was a loud rumble, causing all of them to flinch.

Suddenly...

BOOM!

An explosion that shook the ground happened. People screamed as dust and small rocks fell from the ceiling.

It didn't stop there.

The roof of the underground station eventually broke into ruins, showing an ominous red sky and rose-gold lightnings.

People's eyes shook. It was a beautiful yet frightening view. But they couldn't focus on it for long.

The attacks of the wind blades gradually became relentless and the scenario drowned amongst the rising panic.

Before they knew it, there was a bloodbath. Sharp wind blades wildly flew around, accurately slashing to grant the most pain as the lightnings rained down onto them.

Screams could be heard from everywhere.

'Ahaha! This is fun. I missed doing this!'

'Woo!! A massacre!'

'Kill everyone!!!'

Naturally, Cale ignored the joyful laughter that came from the elementals. He only impassively stared at the scene in the background. His strong gaze did not falter the slightest as he watched the cruel killing spree.

It hurts. His chest burns. But this was the least he could do.

Watch, remember, and bear the guilt of his own sins.

When it comes to enemies, he might not care. But these people aren't. In the novel, only a few are mentioned, so all prophets weren't necessarily bad people. They were simply trying to survive.

How is he supposed to feel while he's taking their lives even after knowing that?

His eyelashes trembled slightly, but he didn't close his eyes.

He knew. All prophets must die.

First, he promised Han Donghoon. Second, they're a threat to Kim Dokja. And third, this is the beginning of his plan.

In the end, Cale got rid of his doubts and guilts.

He continued to watch.

Blood splattered in the air, painting the surroundings with dark red.

From the shadows, a hooded figure in white slowly stepped out, walking over the lifeless bodies that scattered on the ground. The hems of his robe were slightly tainted. The golden whip in his hand glowed, and the wind blades avoided him to focus on aiming at the people filled with agony.

He could see the dozens of messages floating around, indicating that the constellations are present.

[Some constellations are watching in horror.]

[Some constellations are in panic!]

[The constellations are wondering what is going on!]

[The constellations are asking whether this was possible.]

[The constellations of Absolute Good feels despair.]

[The constellations are wondering who the culprit is!]

[The constellations are...]

"Noisy..." He mumbled underneath his breath. The constant sounds of messages were mixed with the voices and laughter of elementals along with the screams and groans of dying individuals.

It was too loud.

The breeze blew gently and brushed off his hood, revealing long silky red hair and the white mask that covers his nose to his forehead, perfectly decorating the man's pale complexion.

His thick lashes faintly fluttered, and his sharp rust-colored pupils scanned his surroundings once more before the wind slowly died down.

The deafening screams had ceased, but there was still someone letting out a groan.

Good. The elementals did what he said.

Cale stepped closer towards the dying man on the ground as the latter stared at him with wide eyes full of fear.

This was the same person who caused Kim Dokja's first death. It was pitiful for him to end up like this, truly. But he couldn't bring himself to feel sympathy.

"... 5th Apostle," He called out monotonously, kneeling down to match their eye view. "I have something to say to you."

Cale smiled coldly and slowly parted his lips.

"Take this offering of Karma."

The man flinched before trembling slightly.

Cale had some doubts before, but that was more than enough to answer his question and confirm his suspicions.

"... I see." He stood up and lifted his gaze, focusing on the stars that glittered the dark blue sky.

His hand was steadily raised, before his index finger pointed towards the constellations.

It was his first declaration of war with them.

Anyone who makes Kim Dokja an enemy would face the same fate.

Constellations that watched behind the scene stared silently in astonishment.

[A fable is growing inside of you!]

Then the streams shortly shut down.

"Crybaby, activate yourself again."

After going into hiding again, Cale leaned back onto a wall in the empty Dongmyo Station. Anguk, the previous station, has been completely destroyed.

His mask was tucked away and his hair returned to black. Thank god. Wearing it made him feel extremely iffy. The great rush of new vicious powers from the mask was not a pleasant experience.

Anyways, most "prophets" and apostles are dead, and the rest would be killed by Yoo Joonghyuk.

The story is still progressing the same despite the major changes he made. He took it as a good thing.

For once, the ancient powers were quiet. Cale felt glad about the silence, but it also made him feel uneasy.

'It's to be expected. They probably hate me for what I did.'

He sighed softly, closing his eyes shut.

Either way, he's exhausted, and he finally has time to relax. Or not.

[The exclusive skill, 'Vitality of The Heart' Lv.??? is activated!]

Cale immediately hunched over, coughing loudly and blood began to spill from his mouth.

'Fuck!'

— Cale!

— No! Cale!

The ancient powers called out to him in concern, but he could care less. He was in pain.

It hurts more than before, more than the time he almost blew up for having an imbalanced plate. His lungs burned. He began to tear up at the torment coursing through his body. His limbs twitched as he tried holding himself up.

He's alone. There's no one to help him. Not even the wind elementals could. If he thought about it, this was for the best. There was no way he'd let anyone witness the scene of him coughing up blood non-stop.

The thick black liquid dripped from his nose, and his eyes became bloodshot. His head pounds wildly. His shaky arm and knees were the only things holding him up.

Cale stared at his reflection on the pool of blood.

It's... horrifying.

Is that how he looks like every time he's in this state?

And he's been showing it to the others all this time...

How awful. He really is trash.

"Cough! Cough!" Cale almost choked, but managed to take occasional breaths through the suffocating moment.

'Damn it, how come no one ever warned me about something like this? I don't want to feel pain!' He complained internally while tears fell from his eyes and onto the floor.

He could faintly hear the voices of his powers, but everything felt too overwhelming.

It was after 30 minutes that the seemingly never-ending torture stopped, and he weakly slumped back against the wall.

His head and chest still throbs. There was leftover blood on the edge of his blue-ish lips, evident on his extremely pale face.

Another silence.

The ancient powers had stopped talking once again.

Until the familiar voice of Super Rock spoke,

— Why do you sacrifice yourself?

Cale kept quiet, but soon let out a scoff.

"Who's sacrificing themselves?" He rasped, almost breathlessly.

His vision gradually became hazy as exhaustion overtook him, but Cale managed to faintly utter his next sentence.

"... I just want to go home."
