Samantha is the only daughter of Mr. Smee, and the oldest sibling, of Squeaky and Squirmy, who are her younger twin brothers. Like every other kid on the Isle of the Lost, she grew up there, but she had it differently than most kids. She seeked refuge as she tried to be away from the pirates, that had did things to her, that she wants to forget. So, when, Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, got chosen to go to Auradon Prep she didn't hesitate of wanting to leave either. Samantha Smee wasn't technically picked to go; she basically hid in the trunk of the limo. When they got to Auradon, she didn't cause trouble as she had stayed hidden from everyone else at the school, as the only ones who knew that she was in Auradon, was the other four.

So, when Mal, Evie, Samantha, Carlos, Ben and Jay all go to Auradon to try to get Mal to come back, they run into Harry Hook, Gil Legume and Henry Westergaard. Henry and Samantha have history between them, as he was the one who raped her a couple years back. So, ever since then she's been afraid of him, and always will be no matter what. The only person that she has ever told from her encounter with Henry was Carlos. 

Samantha and Carlos were best friends, as they did everything together. He stuck up for her, and she did the same back. That was just how their friendship was. Carlos was the only person who only really knew about the abuse and everything else that happened to her, because she could trust him. She could trust him with her life, as he could of her. It wasn't until after the chaotic and slightly disastrous Coronation of Prince Ben, was when Samantha and Carlos had admitted their feelings for each other.
