Saoirse steps off the train with a huge smile on her face as the crisp New York air greets her. Her grip tightens on her luggage as she eagerly makes her way through the crowd to find the handsome soldier waiting to pick her up.
She scoured around until she found him in uniform holding a sign with her name on it.
"Bucky!" She yells out and his attention immediately goes to her as he smiles widely at the nickname. Saoirse actually initiated the nickname that's now stuck ever since when she couldn't pronounce Buchanan when they were kids.
Saoirse rushes into his arms and he spins her around. "I'm so happy you're finally home." He breathes out, squeezing her before he carefully places her down.
"Out did yourself with the sign, did you?" She asks amused.
"Only the best service my lady." He tips his hat causing Saoirse to roll her eyes playfully.
"That's Dr. to you, sir." Saoirse softly pushes his chest.
"Oh, excuse me Dr." He takes her luggage and they slowly start walking. "Then I believe you will be calling me Sargent now.." He says proudly.
Saoirse gasps. "You got your assignment?"
"Yep. 107th. I ship out to England first thing in the morning." Bucky tells her, less excitedly than before.
"What! I just got here." She frowns.
"I know..." He turns to her, shoulders dropping at her saddened expression. "But we have tonight." He assures.
"Guess we better make it count then, huh?" She looks at him.
"We will." Bucky promises. He makes a promise to himself right there that he'll leave Saoirse the happiest girl in New York before he leaves for the war. He wishes he could give anything to stay, knowing Saoirse is back he feels like he's bailing, but time just never seems to be in the pair's favor.
"Then what are we waiting for." Saoirse's smile returns. "Race ya." She smirks and takes off running.
"Hey, not fair, I have your bags!" Bucky hollers after her.
"You snooze, you lose, Sargent." She laughs, her dirty blonde waves flying in the wind.
"Oh, you're gonna pay for that Dr!" He takes off after her.

We drop my stuff off at the house before we start walking to the cinema. I practically skip the whole way, so excited to see my brother after a couple years of being too busy with school to come in for the holidays. Since I'm home early I'm surprising him which makes this reunion even better.
We hear a loud crashing noise as we approach the back alleyway behind the theater.
"What was that?" I turn to Bucky. Gasping as I follow his line of vision to find a small guy falling into the silver beat up trash cans and a much larger man hovering over him. But it's not just any unusually small guy unfortunately, it's my brother. "Steve." I sigh quietly, shaking my head. Always a knack for getting into trouble, some things never change. I start down the alleyway before my elbow is grabbed. I groan. "Buck-" I go to argue.
"Uh-uh, let me handle this. Please." Bucky frowns at the scene in front of him before giving me a look to stay here. I know I'll just make things worse if I get involved, just like I've always done when my brother bites off more than he can chew since we the moment we could walk and talk.
I loudly exhale out of my nose. "Okay." I nod letting him know to go on.
He marches up to the stranger and grabs him from behind. "Hey!" He forcefully moves the man away from Steve. "Pick on someone your own size."
I slowly start making my way to them, knowing this shouldn't take long. The man stumbles to turn back around and sloppily takes a swing at Bucky, which he misses of course, and Bucky slams his fist into the man's nose. I smile proudly.
Then Bucky kicks him from behind, sending the man stumbles forward in my direction. I stick my foot out and he trips over it before looking up at me. "That's for being a bully." I cross my arms and he takes off running. Bullies. Always the worst kind of people.
I move towards the boys as Bucky moves closer to Steve as he starts to stand. "Sometimes, I think you like getting punched." Bucky says and I have to hold back my laugh. It's true. Getting beat up by men twice is size is like a magnet that draws my brother in.
Steve hunches over to catch his breath and I can't help but wince. I think he's gotten even frailer since last I saw him.
"I had him on the ropes." Steve defends. I shake my head at him but can't help smiling at the confidence in his voice. I've always admired his strength. Though he doesn't have any physically, my brother is the strongest person I know. He wears his heart on his sleeve, I just wish it didn't get him beaten up in the process.
Bucky bends over, picking up the familiar looking card. Oh Steve. "How many times is this?" I squint, making out 'Department of Selective Service Certificate of Acceptance'. "Oh, you're from Paramus now?" Bucky comments while Steve gingerly wipes his eye and dusts off his pants. "You know it's illegal to lie on the enlistment form. And seriously, Jersey?"
Steve finally looks up, realizing Bucky is in uniform, clearly not noticing me yet. "You get your orders?"
Bucky pauses for moment. "The 107th. Sergeant James Barnes-" His tone is not as light as it was earlier. "Shipping out for England first thing tomorrow.
Steve scoffs, shaking his head. "I should be going."
"But then who would stay here with me?" I fully come around the corner, a huge grin spread across my face.
"Saoirse?" Steve's eyes light up.
"Surprise." Bucky smirks.
"Hey big brother." Bucky snickers at 'big brother' considering I tower over him. "Oh, you hush." I push his chest as I pull Steve in for a hug.
"I thought you were still at school!" He embraces me. "I missed you so much."
As we release Bucky wraps his arms around us. "Come on you two. It's my last night! I got to get this one cleaned up." He juts his head towards Steve. "And this one takes forever to get ready." He looks at me.
I scoff jokingly. "I do not!"
"Why? Where are we going?" Steve asks skeptically.
"Oh hush, it'll be fun." I turn to Bucky eagerly, waiting for the surprise since he told me in the cab I'd have to wait until we met up with Steve for his plans for tonight. I'm excited to see what he has up his sleeve.
He tosses Steve's form behind as he holds out the paper towards us. "The future."
Steve unfolds it and I peak over his shoulder. 'WORLD EXPOSITION OF TOMORORROW' is shown on the front with a globe, fireworks, and 1943 largely in the corner.
Ooo, this should be fun! In all honesty, it doesn't matter what we do as long as we're together... one last time.
