contrary to what most of her peers had thought, dismissing penelope as nothing more than a crazy delusionalist who'd do best shut up in some facility away from the rest of the pleasant society, the young woman in not in fact crazy. in fact, she is rather smart even, at least in her own mind she is. penelope genuinely enjoys learning very much, as one of her worse dislikes is to not be in the know about something. she doesn't talk too much, preferring to watch and listen, this quality of hers allowing her to soak up much simply from observing those around her. that is not to say she is shy or anything—penelope is far from shy—but she simply isn't the most flashy of individuals. she finds that the people who obsess the most with standing out must internally be the most insecure, because why else would you care so much what others think of you? personally, penelope has given up long ago caring about other's opinion of her. she can't change their minds without changing her behavior, and how does one even go about changing their entire being? that seems futile. so no, penelope silva does not much care for what others make of her. having developed a thick skin, most insults simply fly past her or fall off, failing to find a place to land.

her independence is a great asset to her, as nothing about her personality has ever been the most attractive in drawing company. fairly resourceful, penelope delights in being able to solve problems and holds a special fondness for logic puzzles. one of penelope's greatest weaknesses would have to be how easily distractible she is. with always a million thoughts whirling through her mind,  she drifts in and out of focus as easy as the seagull chasing the waves. it is rather easy to surprise her, and no matter what, she always makes a very distinct little yelp upon being startled. her focus is not great and nor is her ability to make decisions. incredibly indecisive, penelope treats even simple questions as a puzzle of the universe that must be carefully deciphered. do not look to her to lead your party, you'll never get anywhere that's for sure.  on the bright side however, penelope is far from impulsive and once she arrives at a conclusion, they are usually good conclusions. even without her strange little habit, penelope has always had a pretty good intuition going for her. she finds herself great at reading other people, she may be easily distractible but she is certainly not naive so do not presume to think you can lie to her and get away with it.

to most people, penelope must come across as quite odd. always lost in thought, or muttering randomly to herself—verbal processing her number one best friend—penelope is not your poster child for "social charmer". but for all her eccentricities, underneath the weirdness is a heart of gold. penelope is a kind person who couldn't fathom hurting a soul, and she looks down upon those who use others for personal gain. in that matter, penelope is very judgemental at times, nearing on pretentious, with penelope you get one chance to make a good impression. once she judges you as hopeless, it's hard to redeem yourself in her books. an extremely paranoid person, penelope is constantly dreading that something bad will happen. additionally, she does not trust other people easily and always seems bracing herself to be let down. finally, penelope would definitely call herself a coward. she dislikes the unknown and does not get the adrenaline rush that others may get from taking crazy risks. she'd much prefer to sit off on the side line, trying to think her way out of things.

as you might imagine, penelope adelaide silva, with her ability to receive cryptic dreams from the future, was the epitome of popularity in life! do note the heavy irony, for much of her life penelope has been treated as an oddity, an outcast or a freak. when she was younger, she was always babbling things to her parents. stuff like "i need to get my rain coat it's going to rain today" or "don't bother putting out an extra plate, grandma's car will break down and she'll be late" that most everyone dismissed as bizarre toddler talk upon first hearing it. but then it happened later on. her parents shrugged and tried to dismiss it as as some coincidence, but how many times is it a coincidence if it becomes consistent? as she began to grow up, what started as some cute little childish quirk began to turn into a sense of major annoyance. her parents never said it but she always felt a sense of resentment brewing from both of them when she was around.

the low point in penelope's relationship with her parents would be the time when she got into a huge argument with her mother, her mother who was berating her over her lack of a social life and tendency to avoid all the other kids at school. penelope, pissed off and furious at her mother who in her eyes, was unjustly getting mad at her just for existing as herself, told her mother "you're so horrid and focused on other's lives, no wonder he'd cheat on you!" it goes without saying, that her mother slapped her for that, a harsh sting on the cheek and sent her to her room without dinner. the next day, the two of them both tried to forget about that interaction ever happening. but lo and behold, a year later, penelope's words would come to pass as her father's affair with another woman was revealed to them. that was the final nail in the relationship with her mother, who saw her words in that argument as a curse. penelope, mad at her father for proving her right and her mother for getting mad at her for this instead of her father's own wretched behavior, saw this at the last straw in her relationship with them and left her house. she was maybe sixteen, seventeen years old at this point.

very fortunately, penelope had always maintained a good relationship with her aunt, younger sister to her mother who also did not get along well with the woman, so the girl went to go live with her aunt and continue her schooling. penelope strove her best to not tell of her visions again to anyone, fearing to burn all bridges and get branded a witch. additionally, she wanted to give her aunt a peace that she didn't particularly want to give her mother. still, the dreams she had gotten of things to come ever since she was young, would continue to plague her. lately, she's been having this reoccuring nightmare of being sent off into the deep black abyss of space. "kep1er-697" the words have been haunting her like a cattle brand ever since she was young. then recently she was chosen as one of the travelers to establish this new space colony and now she finally realizes what it all meant. what she doesn't know however is the why. why her? why has she known about this for all her life? and why, oh why does this fill her with such a sense of dread, like the feeling of someone slithering across your own grave?

penelope is deeply suspicious of being chosen and going to this unknown place and fearful that something awful is about to happen. as for her thoughts on people from other planets, she is neutrally positive towards all of them, possessing no specific grudges or biases.
