jasmine comes across as a fairly happy, outgoing and optimistic girl and for the most part that's true. she has a sort of infectious ability to enjoy life, and a well developed sense of humor. when you're with jazzy you can always rely on the fact that you won't be bored. fun loving and cheeky, yet still relatively kind and compassionate, jazz makes for a loyal friend to have in your corner. it's rare that you'll ever catch jazz without a smile on her face, she seems to always be smiling, laughing with her eyes in the delight of a private joke at something. jazz is that one student in eight am lectures who's chirpy and energetic, asking the professor how their day was and genuinely looking happy to be there. even when she's not in the best of moods, jazz is the type to force a smile to the point where her cheekbones hurt. she's a pretty good actress all things considered, and only people she's known for a while will be good at interpreting which of her smiles ring true and which are painted on.

 jasmine is a confident person, and always unapologetically herself. she doesn't really care if other people find her open manner and playful antics cringy or weird, and possesses an almost impetuous self certainty in any action she does. jazz is used to being right, and if she's not wrong she's open and curious enough to want to know what she did wrong so she can improve as soon as she can. definitely a perfectionist, this kind of feels like it's own cage of itself. while jazz loves successes and winning, sometimes it feels that with every triumph she has she's just setting some higher standard pedestal for herself to meet. but she's too competitive and dedicated to just let herself fail, her pride won't let her drop the ball on anything, even if it would be healthier for her too. this sort of attitude has led her to join three different clubs, partially due to a fear of missing out, extreme extrovertism and all that and partially due to feeling some need to stay the golden child, just like her mother was and no doubt her parents before her. as aforementioned, jasmine is an incredibly proud individual, this being a learned trait from her grandma's mannerisms in particular. 

being so proud, she's the type of person who simply can't turn down a challenge, whether to a game of chess or pickup basketball, if you formally challenge her she will feel honor bound to accept. this as one can imagine, has led to quite the wide variety of interesting stories and sticky situations. and if you do manage to best her or wrong her? she won't let you know, being too clever for that but miss girl will definitely be making a note of that, just waiting for her opportunity to one up you again. a people person when it comes to her people, jazz will extend this same fierce protective nature over them, seeing their battles as her own. she's definitely supportive that's for sure but sometimes maybe too supportive. with her 'i got this' and 'i know best' attitude she can sometimes accidentally stomp all over her friend's wills or read their wishes and intentions wrong. but she means the best, with everything jazz does, she means the best. that has to be enough right? lastly jasmine feels a bit of a pressure to be perfect and happy all the time, and finds it hard to be emotionally vulnerable with herself. 

𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚

jasmine comes from a fairly fortunate, privileged background. her grandparents met and started what has grown to be quite the prestigious lawfirm together, called jin family firm or 金家律家, based in sunny south california. jasmine's grandparents' parents were both first gen immigrants from chengdu china in fact. proud of their acchievments together, jasmine's grandparent's expected her mother and later on, jasmine too, to follow in their footsteps of becoming successful lawyers, working to help the common people with their gripes with the law. jasmine's mother, was always described to jazz as quite the acchiever and golden girl, as jazz herself aspires to be. as jasmine's grandparents lament, if not for her one mistake her mother could have soared high, the future of the jin family firm's fortune and legacy. so what happened? here's the deal. jasmine's mother, jocelyn fell pregnant at the young age of twenty with her then college boyfriend terrance at the time. her parents, jasmine's grandparents were super displeased about this and though jazz herself doesn't know this, advised that jocelyn give up the child. they were afraid and disappointed that their daughter would have let something like this happen, viewing her as overly young and not ready to raise a child at that point in her life. 

they also didn't like her boyfriend at the time, finding him irresponsible and warning jocelyn that he was the type of boy to bounce if things ever got hard. finally, jocelyn's parents wanted her to finish college and go to law school, so she could help the family firm, not put her life on hold to take care of a kid. anyways jocelyn refused to give up her child and jasmine was born about nine months later. about a year after that, jocelyn and her boyfriend, jazz's father broke up for reasons that jocelyn has never told her, just telling her that their life goals and paths were too different at the time. jazz's grandparents, cooled down a bit more at this point, simply vindicated and satisfied in being right on their views of terrance. they stepped up and helped jocelyn raise her daughter, and more or less tentatively patched things up with her. later on in jazz's life, her mother was able to go back to finish school and go to law school, determined to be the lawyer she was supposed to be. as a result, jasmine growing up spent no small amount of time hanging out with her grandparents who doted on her. as a result, jazz naturally is quite close to her grandparents, and sometimes it feels like she's a little closer to them than she is to her mother at times, due to her mother always being busy with work. 

she can assume parts of the conflict and speculate at what happened between her mother and grandparents, but jazz has always been too afraid to ask about that time of her mom's life. she knows by now that she wasn't a wanted or planned for child. jazz definitely feels a pressure to do just as good as her mother did in school, and do better in fact, another golden girl from the golden jin family who can take over the family law firm one day. as such she decided to major in prelaw with an english minor to suit her passions, and is the type of student to dedicate herself to being involved with as many clubs and teams she can handle. currently her main priorities are debate club, track and field and gsa. her twentieth birthday is in july and jazz is honestly feeling a little bit weird about the whole idea of that, knowing that's the age her mother was when jazz was born and her life kinda really got derailed.

jazz has a few reasons to take astronomy 101. the first reason is she knows several people and friends in the class, being the very extroverted person she is of course she just has to follow the homies into the class. secondly, she thinks stars and planets are pretty, the cosmos fascinating, it'd be fun to get to study them for the semester. thirdly, and she's not ashamed to admit it, jazz is a huge astrology zodiac girlie, being interested in all the mythology of the cosmos, from myths beyond constellations to astrology and tarot. so why not take a class dedicated to all the stars that have always guided her life?

➺ her three clubs right now are track and field, debate club and ttrpg. she loki would quit debate club bc a lot of the people are toxic and it brings out her competitive side in not always  a good way but she feels obligated because of her mind to continue.

➺ she plays guitar, bass and violin. the latter she learned when she was young at her grandparent's urging, the former she learned with her mom on her off weekends and it's something that connects the two of them.

➺ she has a youtube account @goldenageofjazz where she does a little bit of everything from book reviews to beauty tips but her most popular videos are her challenge and dare videos which she usually does with her two friends yeona and jamie.

➺ tarot, astrology, mbti, she loves all of the above and has a little stall doing readings that she puts up at some college events and for local high school, middle school and elementary school events.
