ƈɦǟքȶɛʀ 2

ƈǟʍքɛռȶօ ɖɛʟ քʊɛʀȶɛ օʍǟȶɨӄǟʏǟ

We arrive back at home base, everyone tense and tired. I rode with Neytiri since Neteyam is injured and rode with Jake. Neteyam slowly slides off the Ikran.

"Mom!" Tuk yells, rushing over to us.

"Tuk! Tuk tuk tuk tuk," Neytiri welcomes the youngest Sully into her arms.

"Hi Kamari," Tuk smiles up at me. I smile back. Tuk's cheerfulness is always contagious.

Lo'ak is last to land and as soon as he does Jake speaks gruffly, "Fall in." Neteyam hangs his head as he gets closer. "You're supposed to be spotters!" He chews at Neteyam and Lo'ak. "You spot bogies and you call them in, from a distance! Kamari ended up down there as well, when you're supposed to get her! Does any of this sound familiar? Get here!" He yells the last bit at Lo'ak who's been hanging back. I blink rapidly. I don't think I've ever heard him so mad before. But he thought Neteyam was dead.

Kiri makes her way over and starts examining Neteyam, glancing over at me. Neteyam winces as he clutches his arm, causing me to frown. Neytiri and I move closer to them.

"Jesus! I let you two geniuses fly a mission and you disobey direct orders," Jake continues his rant before turning his attention to Kiri, "Kiri, can you go help your grandmother with the wounded please?"

"My brother is wounded," She says firmly. Neteyam tries to tell her it's okay as Tuk checks Lo'ak's arm. I can't help but smile at her innocent worry.

"Tuk! Go with her! Go!" Jake orders. Tuk groans.

Kiri rolls her eyes. "You take care of him," She mutters my way and takes off. I sigh, stepping around to Neteyam's side, grimacing at the gash on his chest.

"Sir, I take full responsibility-" Neteyam starts. I scoff to myself, tapping him lightly. This was not his doing. Lo'ak looks at him in disbelief.

"Yes you do!" Jake interrupts. "That's right. Cause your the older brother, you gotta act like it." Lo'ak's ears rear back.

"Ow," Neteyam grunts quietly as I feel around his back and shoulders.

"My Jake," Neytiri cuts in, "Your son is actually bleeding." Bless Neytiri for being the one to cool him down.

"No, it's fine," Neteyam shakes his head.

I roll my eyes this time. He doesn't always have to act so tough.

I raise his arm and he seers in pain. "No, it's not."

Jake blinks, calming down. "Go on and get patched up," His tone lowers. "Go on. Dismissed," He adds a little firmness.

Neytiri and I each grab an arm, taking Neteyam to the medical tent. She looks back, giving Lo'ak her motherly stare that, as Jake puts it, 'scares the shit' out of me.

"I am fine Kamari," Neteyam insists with a sigh. "Are you okay? You shouldn't have been down there," He says gently.

"Someone had to make sure you didn't get yourself killed," I shake my head at him. Neytiri laughs quietly at us.

"OW! Ow!" Neteyam cries out as Mo'at, their grandmother, puts ointment on his back.

"Awww, wanna kiss on the boo boo?" Spider mocks. I narrow my eyes at him. Why is he even in here while we're tending to the injured?

"I would have used yalnabark," Kiri gives her input.

"Oh you would? And who is Tsahik?" Mo'at asks her.

"You are Gran- move!" She pushes Lo'ak out of the way, "You are grandmother, but yalnabark is better. It stings less."

"Ow! Ow!" Neteyam starts back up.

"The Mighty Warrior," Lo'ak comments, crouching beside Neteyam.

"Why don't I try something?" I speak up, nervously. Mo'at looks at me, mulling it over.

"Alright," She finally nods.

"Come on," I say softly, holding out  my hand for Neteyam.

He winces as I help him up. "Where are we going?"

"Away from all of this," I motion around. Too many people crowding the tent was making me tense and claustrophobic and I don't want to hear anymore Spider comments.

We sneak past Neytiri and Jake over to where we can be alone.

"What are you going to do?" He asks, still holding onto my hand tightly, I don't pull away.

"Heal you."

"How?"

I give him a look as I stop at a couple of logs for us to sit. "You ask too many questions."

He looks down. "Sorry."

I squeeze his hand as he did mine earlier, "Do you trust me?"

His gaze meets mine. "With my life," He insists, his face completely serious.

"Good," I smile softly and gently push his shoulders for him to sit.

"So what exactly are you going to do? Walk me through it," He asks as I take a deep breathe.

"When we found you... it's like I could feel your pain. I think, I think I can heal you," I answer as I rub my palms together before slowing placing them on his chest. He shivers and it feels like electricity sparking, but I've only ever tried that once so it's not me. "This okay?"

His eyes flutter shut but he nods, "Mhmm."

I breathe in as I close my eyes and start to feel his energy. It feels like he's buzzing, but also calm. Like the ocean. And he's in pain but it's starting to numb due to the stuff Mo'at put on him.

"Are you doing it?" He whispers.

I let out a small laugh, "Not yet. I'm trying to read you first."

I start slowly moving my hands, one grazing over the gash on his chest and I place the other on his back. I let the warmth of heat through my palms and work it's way to my fingertips. I open my eyes to find Neteyam in total amazement. Steam starts to seep through my hands as I envision the healing plants all throughout the forest. I think of how my heart was beating out of my chest when I thought Neteyam was dead. I imagine a cool breeze traveling through my fingertips.

I inhale, then exhale. "Does it hurt?"

"Not at all," He smiles.

I nod, lifting my hands off his high temperature body to see the last bit of his scrapes and cuts disappear into his blue skin.

His mouth falls open as he watches in awe. "That was amazing!" I smile proudly. "You're amazing Kamari!" He looks at me for a moment like he's contemplating something before wrapping his arms around me.

I tense up for a moment, not use to hugs but growing more comfortable to his, and relax into his embrace. "I'm glad you're okay."

He pulls back, but leaves his hands on my shoulders. "I knew you cared about me," He grins. "Who's the mighty warrior?"

I push him playfully as my cheeks burn.

"Come onnn, admit it," He laughs, "Admit you care about me."

"Admit you couldn't make it without me first," I hum, going to stand.

He grabs my wrist as I turn to leave, joining me.

"I can't make it without you Kamari," He takes my hand, "Thank you."
