The sun was down, the moon replacing it's original spot as it was hidden beneath the clouds, the wind picking up every second, showing the storm was getting closer and closer each time that passed. The Phantom laid out on the ocean, far away from the island but still close enough where people could see the boat if they really looked far enough, or with a pair of binoculars if they had any. The young couple stood on the boat, their backs slightly hunched over as they tried to stay hidden.
Their eyes were on one certain spot on the island, at least two or three tents hooked up together, the red and blue lights flashing, showing that large amounts of police officers were there as they tried to find John B Routledge. Small figures could be seen as many officers walked around, many cars parked around, letting the couple know that many civilians that lived on the island were there, and most likely news reporters as well as they tried to get as much gossip about the supposed murderer that was trying to escape from the island.
"It's like the entire sheriff's department." Y/n points out. "Holy shit."
"We'll go dark and let the tide pull us out." John B tells her.
Reaching forward, Y/n watches as her boyfriend presses many buttons on the boat, turning the entire thing off as the waves began to lead them forward, the wind growing stronger each minutes, blowing in their hair. John B held the girl close to him as they kept their eyes on the island where many officers stood at, the tide continuing to pull them further and further as they hoped they wouldn't be spotted by anyone.
The loud rumble of thunder, followed by the flash of lightning happened every few minutes and as they were being led along the waves, it happened once again, making Y/n jump just a bit to which John B soothes her quietly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. A few minutes pass as they waited, hearing a loud voice announcing the police needed eyes on the other side of the point. Eventually, John B looks to his girlfriend with a little, relieved smile laying on his lips.
"We're clear." John B informs.
Y/n smiles, looking to him. "Hey, we're gonna make it."
John B nods. "Yeah, we just gotta go north through the swamp, and then we just follow the--"
"Follow the North Star." Y/n interrupts, staring up at the sky where the stars laid. "What everything spins around."
The brunette looks over at her, a small smile laying on his lips as he stares at her in awe and love. She looks at him, a smile on her own lips before she looks ahead just as John B reaches forward to turn the boat back on so they could move forward. However, feeling the girl slightly tap his shoulder, John B follows Y/n's gaze as they watch the lights around the entire island light up.
Their bodies tensing as e/c eyed girl grips her boyfriend's hand tightly as they frantically glance around, taking notice of the light at the top of the lighthouse turns on and a few seconds after, the light was shining right on their boat. Quickly, they duck down but the loud shouts on the island got them to know that they had been spotted even if they ducked below the light. Already knowing they were spotted, John B turns the ignition to turn the boat on but it was spluttering.
"Shit." John B curses. "It's not turning over."
"What do we do?" Y/n asks in a frantic voice.
"Check the engine." John B instructs, just as frantic.
Quickly doing as told, Y/n rushes to the back of the boat where the engine was, checking the choke like John B had instructed, however, the girl already knew what to do as she had helped her brother with boats before, having to get the engine to work on the HMS Pogue before a few times. In the corner of her eye, the Maybank girl could see many figures standing on the edge of the island, flashes of most likely cameras aimed in their direction just as a siren was heard.
A police boat had been turned on into the water and was now headed straight to the couple and the Phantom. After a few seconds, John B was turning the ignition again, the sound whirring sound being heard as the boat finally turns back on. Y/n rushes back to the front of the boat, beside her boyfriend who sped right forward. Hearing sirens right behind them, Y/n glances over her shoulder, seeing two police boats chasing them while John B kept his gaze straight forward, determined to get him and his girlfriend out of here.
The distant yelling on the island could be heard as the wind became rougher, rain starting to pour on everyone that stood outside, including the people on the boats, soaking them almost instantly. Seeing at least four or five police boats in front of them, the Routledge boy quickly instructs Y/n to hold onto something which she does just as he turns the boat to their left, the cops right on their heels as the rain became harder each second, the storm finally hitting them after the entire day.
A small screen was laying right in front of the couple, almost like a GPS, small arrows to indicate what they were as the Phantom was the green arrow and the red arrows behind them were the cops. Ahead of them on the screen, it was all orange and different other colors, signaling the storm was right ahead of them as they were heading in that direction.
"They're coming from around the cut!" Y/n observes, having to speak loud over the rain.
"We've gotta go south." John B informs.
The waves were becoming more rougher, the rain pouring down even harder, the occasional rumble of thunder and the flash of lightning that came by every few seconds as they got closer and closer to the storm. The couple kept ahold of one another as the brunette continued driving the boat, Y/n's other hand holding onto the bars of the boat as the waves almost made them fall over many, many times, the floor of the Phantom becoming slippery as the rain water pounded right on it.
"John B?" A familiar voices comes from the radio, making the two share a look. It was Ward. "John B, I know you're there, son. I know you can hear me, and if you love that girl like I think you love that girl, then you will turn that boat around and come back. You are going into a storm that you cannot survive. John B, please, I will make it right. I promise you. Come back."
"No, don't listen to him. He's a liar." Y/n accuses, remembering what happened at the airport.
The girl knew Ward only wanted John B to turn around so the cops could just arrest him so then neither he or Rafe would be arrested instead. All Ward wanted was a teenage boy to be arrested for a crime he never even did, but was there to witness it.
"John B, I am begging you. Think of her and turn around." Ward continues.
Breathing very heavily as large amounts of water hit right at them, John B glances between the love of his life beside him and the mic on the boat. Gulping, he reaches forward and grabs the mic, seeing Y/n giving him a slight confused look. Instead of saying a word to her, he places the mic close to his mouth.
"Ward Cameron, do you hear me?" John B questions.
"Yes. Yes, son, I'm right here." Ward replies, seeming to sound more urgent that he finally answered. "Look, we'll work it all out when you get home. All you gotta do is turn back around."
"You killed my father, and you framed me for a murder I didn't commit." John B exclaims, knowing that the officers would have to be all around the rich man. "You took everything from me! But I'm still here. And I swear to God, Ward, I will come back one day and take what's mine. So, you listen to me, alright? I'm coming for you."
And with that, he places the mic back, continuing to drive into the storm as Ward had gone quiet. The Routledge boy knew all the officers would have heard what he said as they were the ones trying to arrest him, Ward only giving them more lies for them to believe while they were doing so.
"What would you do if I wasn't here?" Y/n asks suddenly.
"Look, I'd rather die than go to jail, baby." John B admits, glancing at her.
Y/n shakes her head. "I'd rather die than be without you."
The boy looks at her, a little smile tugging on his lips even at the situation they were in at the moment. The girl places her hands on his cheeks, feeling his one arm wrap around his waist as they press their lips to one another, sharing a slight passionate kiss in the rain while they were in the storm. What made them pull away and hold onto each other was the large amounts of water that had hit them once again, the waves tilting the boat slightly before it landed flat on the water again.
Holding onto each other very tightly while the Maybank girl raises her hand, grabbing ahold of a bar in front of them, John B continues driving forward. However, the next thing they knew, the rough and giant wave was sending them up and upside down and into the water.
