𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐒. what used to be a holiday of santa claus was now a miserable month of boring nothingness. as kids, all jackie barton liked about christmas was the usual mantra, a.k.a spending time with her brothers, her sister, her mom, her dad. there was just one family tree of problems.

the grandfather of the problems was that she just died. yeah, it'd been a year or two, but she literally was out of existence for a whopping five years. the house has gone to ruin, all her friends were in college, and she has to redo junior year. dying is a horrible, sticky concept. suddenly losing conciousness with the world, becoming a floppy piece of cold flesh, not knowing what happens, next, if anything happens next. seriously, jackie would pass, but too late, 'cause she already blipped. also! the world is now super messy. sure, it was before, but jackie can take a spin and assume it's even more currently. resettlement committes are sprouting up faster than ever, the avengers aren't a thing anymore, and something about a new captain america? it's way too much for jackie's 17-year-old puberty-stuffed brain to handle.

the bartons' first christmas after the little hurray (as their mom called it) was barely celebrated, with everyone just arriving back into the hell that was life. weeds needed to be torn out of their lawn, molding floor planks removed, and rooms repainted. 

this year, jackie knew, the little girl deep inside her just wanted to bake cookies with her mom, burn hot chocolate with her siblings, make snow angels with her dad. but after everything that happened? the clammy feeling of dying still hammers at her throat, making her try to force down her gag reflex at least once a day. she hates dying. and her death has already ruined her christmas, whether or not she was resurrected by the hulk or not. 

not trying to enjoy herself at all, jackie grudingly goes to new york city with her siblings, her cat and her dad. new york city-meaning the city of annoyingly-flashy lights and slushy snow. turns out, the trip turns out to be better than she expected. a golden retriever, one kate bishop, and good ol' superheroing really casts the silverlinging around it. well, record scratch, life seems to just want to keep playing the uno-reverse card on her.

this story will have a few flashbacks from infinity war (and before that), but will formally start in hawkeye (2021) and will also cover spiderman: no way home.

𝒖𝒑𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔

short answer: i'll update when i want to

long answer: once the first few hawkeye episodes come out i'll be good to start writing, as i want context and clarity to fill in things like foreshadowing, etc. there will be prologues, further intro chapters, etc., as i want to set up jackie's character before actually following the structure of the show.i don't have a set updating schedule, but my inspiration for this book is FLOWING and i can't wait to write, so i'd say expect an update at least twice a month (this will vary).

i have fancasted clint barton. one, because jeremy renner is ick, and two, because steven is my babe and he is perfect as hawkeye. no i am not taking criticism.

this isn't a romance. the relationship explored here is a father-daughter one. i do not support incest. jackie will have another love interest in part two of this book.

i picked the name jackie after one of my friends, same with francesca, her middle name. as for the accuracies of these names, (because i want to clear this up-people have yelled at me before about names) i didn't want jackie to have a first name beginng with 'L' (cause my *actual* name begins with 'L' so i am obvs turned off). clint and laura also don't have much regard for same-place-of-origin names. for instance, 'laura' is a latin european name, wheras 'lila's origins are from the middle world (note that the places of origin are from google). 'francesca' is a female derivative from 'francis', which is clint's middle name. (also i love the name francesca). as for the other characters, kate bishop's name is actually katherine elizabeth. i, for one, was v surprised when i saw that, but i guess i should've been less lmao. lila barton doesn't have a canon middle name, but because i read online that she was named nicole (after nick fury) in the alt. avengers comics, i gave her that name as her middle name. cooper and nathaniel (rip natasha romanoff)'s names will stay the same because i don't see a huge reason to give them middle names or name changes. i fancasted laura barton as well for pretty much no reason other than zhu zhu is STUNNING, as well as the fact that if i didn't fancast her, i would have to find half-chinese faceclaims for jackie and lila, which i didn't feel like doing. therefore, i made laura's maiden name 'tang'. yes yes! a chinese name, we love to see representation.

my ocs are flawed. i like to think i put a drop of myself in each of them, and i am certainly not perfect. they will make mistakes, some insignificant and some significant. that being said, please refrain from commenting hate on any of my ocs. they are mine, and i've put a lot of love and time into them. they will take time, sometimes a lot of time (depending on the character) to overcome their incorrect beliefs, just know that THEY WILL GROW. absolutely, you can hate something they do, but i will not stand for hate comments on my characters themselves, especially not internally misogynistic or slut-shaming comments on my ocs that are female. jackie is a minor at the start of this. she's going through regular teenage feelings, please accept that.

adding on to the above, although i do seek help for this story among my friends on this platform and others, this story is largely tailored from my perspective. my own experiences will be reflected in this book, especially my own experience in ptsd. yes, this may be drastically different from what you have been through, but everyone sees and processes things differently. feel free to correct me if my interpretation of some of these issues may be wrong, but please be polite. i accept constructive criticism, but nothing beyond that degree.

also also! please don't refer to jackie or my other ocs as yourselves. comments with 'we' and other person-story projection words, although they may have been given with well intent, i do not appreciate as this is NOT A SELF-INSERT. jackie's character and other aspects of her life i create have been purposefully made to be different from yours!

is this book borne of my inner christmas demons unleashing? of course not.

is this book borne of my innate desire to fix up my daddy issues? aint that the question.

i'm not completely following comic clint's characterization because, 1. i want to explore a not-very-fleshed-out mcu character, and 2. because im broke and can't afford the comics.

reiterating! jackie is a MINOR at the start of this. no sexualizing/hate comments on her character allowed or u will be whipped in the ass by me and the christmas spirit™.

speaking of chistmas, though, i personally like christmas. i know there are a lot of people on this platform who don't necessarily like it, and to that i say it's totally okay! its none of my business to judge opinions on a holiday. but if i see any full-scale arguments about christmas in the comments, again, ur gonna be whooped in the ass.
