Entering his room, he laid on the bed just wanting to think and think. He still hadn't apologized to Sanjana about yesterday nor had he had the time to have a chat with the team. His head was throbbing and the medicines he had made him doze off to heavy slumber.
The team had reached their hotel and rushed towards Jasprit's room. The media team were in awe of their brotherhood but didn't follow them except Sanjana and Ayaan.
"He is so careless," grumbled Hardik.
"Agreed. But one of us should have talked with him, he needed support too," KL muttered while the seniors looked at each other and wondered whether they had been a little too harsh on their kid?
"Ishan, Shubi you all kids go and freshen up and we will meet you all at dinner, don't worry about him." Rohit instructed the youngsters who were new to the team and they needed rest after the session too.
The juniors did argue but ultimately walked to their rooms knowing that the whole team surrounding Jassi would be too much for him, deciding to talk to their bhai at the dinner table itself.
Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya, Hardik and KL were the only ones left behind along with Sanjana and Ayaan. Sanjana felt guilty and wouldn't calm down till she at least knew whether he was okay or not while Ayaan couldn't leave her alone when she needed her friend's support.
"Sanjana, you don't have to feel guilty," Virat assured her, looking at her face.
The seven of them reached his room and knocked it a couple of times but received no response. Harry, having no patience left in him, pushed them aside and banged the door loudly.
"JASSII," he shouted a couple of times while the rest six looked at him amusingly. They wanted to laugh at his impatience but let it go and continued to be the spectators to his show.
Jasprit finally woke up due to the constant banging and moved to open the door, "what the fuck, Harry!" he exclaimed.
"What were you up to? We have been ringing the bell, knocking continuously," Harry questioned.
Jasprit looked at everyone and moved aside to let them enter. He was kinda shocked to see Sanjana and Ayaan but had no energy to question anything at this point.
"I had dozed off due to the medicines I think," he replied as he shut the door behind everyone.
"So .... Kuch kaam tha?" he asked, not quite sure why everyone had gathered.
"Are you mad?" KL was the one to ask this time while Jasprit gave him a perplexed expression.
"Jassi, how did you end up hurting your head?" Rohit asked him calmly.
Knowing if he told them the truth he would have another round of scolding but at the same time he couldn't lie to the ones in front of him who could easily identify when he was bluffing.
"Meds team ne bola serious nahi hai, thoda swelling hoga everything else is okay." he replied instead of answering the actual question.
Virat rolled his eyes and said, "Question was how did you hurt your head, not what did the medical staff say."
"Jassi, injury update agar hume chahiye rehti toh idhar nahi aate." Ajinkya said.
Jasprit visibly gulped knowing that he was going to hear a lecture while Sanjana and Ayaan stood in one corner silently.
"Umm .... bhai .... woh actually," he stuttered.
"Aage bol!," Harry exclaimed.
"Ball lagi by mistake," he muttered.
"Kaise?" Rohit further questioned.
"Chodo na bhai, ho gaya ab .... let's go for dinner everyone is waiting." he sneakily tried to avert the topic.
"Jassi, kaise lagi?" Virat repeated the previous question.
Jasprit sighed knowing he had no option but to narrate the incident. He explained how in anger he had thrown the ball at the wall only for it to bounce back.
"Next time I see any injury on you due to your anger, however minor it is, you will be...." Rohit's voice trailed off, leaving the threat implied.
The atmosphere in the room shifted from confrontation to one of concern and understanding.
"Jasprit, we're not just teammates; we're family," Ajinkya spoke gently. "You don't have to bear everything alone. If you're struggling, we're here to support you, both on and off the field."
Virat's tone softened as he added, "We know how passionate you are, and we respect that. But you need to find healthier ways to deal with your frustrations. Talk to us, talk to someone—don't let your emotions get the better of you."
Jasprit met their gazes, his eyes welling with gratitude. "I'm sorry, guys. I messed up."
Hardik stepped forward, his usual grin replaced by concern. "Hey, we all have our moments. But remember, we're here for you. Just like you've always been there for us."
KL patted Jasprit's back reassuringly. "And don't think we're letting you off the hook ." Jassi knew what KL meant. The girl standing there in the corner of the room, adoring the relations he had nurtured and developed with the team, deserves his apology.
Rohit squeezed Jasprit's shoulder gently, his tone softer. "Let's get ready for dinner. Juniors are worried for you. Freshen up everyone and let's meeting in the dining area in 15 minutes, okay?"
Sanjana wanted to ask him about his injury but decided against it because she still wasn't ready to have a conversation in front of the team members. She had been welcomed warmly yet she hadn't formed that connection where she could openly talk with Jassi in front of them. She was looking to skip the dinner and as if sensing her thoughts, "Ayaan and Sanjana, join us with your team as well." Virat ordered.
"Oh I am not quite hungry, but I will inform the team to join." she smiled warmly.
"No one goes to sleep empty stomach when B-Ro is here, so move quickly," Harry placed his hands on her shoulders and moved out of the room with Sanjana still protesting, while others shook their heads at Hardik's way to lighten the tensing situation. Others too moved towards the door.
As the group prepared to leave the room, Virat looked back at Jasprit and quipped, "And the next time you're tempted to throw something in anger, come find one of us. We'll have a friendly match of stone-skipping at the nearest river or something."
Jasprit chuckled, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. The room, once filled with his anxieties, had transformed into a space of shared concern and empathy. But still there was one thing that remains - Jassi had to apologise.
