CHAPTER SEVENTEEN:
"WE ARE THE SAME."
The sun was still hiding beneath the clouds as the village here the massacre happened was full of people, a few sky people and grounders. The chirps of crickets and birds could still be heard all around as people were surrounding a small gate. Y/n recognized it as the same gate her, Finn and Murphy had kept the grounders inside when they invaded their village.
Large sticks had been placed around, bodies covered in large cloths leaning against it while Finn Collins' body was at the very top. Bellamy had his arm wrapped around Y/n's waist still, still keeping her up and making sure to avoid the cuts on her back as they stared ahead at the bodies, Y/n keeping her eyes on the top one.
"People of Tondc... In fire, we cleanse the pain of the past." Lexa announces in their language.
The sound of Lincoln's voice reached the sky people's ears as he quietly translated the words, knowing they wouldn't understand what the commander was saying. Indra stepped towards her commander, handing her a torch before Lexa was stepping to the gate. However, murmurs could soon be heard all around when Lexa called out Clarke's name, holding the torch towards her.
The blonde slowly took it, stepping to the bodies as Y/n felt a hand on hers on her other side as Bellamy was on the other. Looking over, she saw Finn looking right at her before he rose a hand, holding her chin a bit as he guided her gaze back to the sticks just in time to see Clarke light the bodies and sticks up on fire.
"Your fight is over." Clarke mumbles.
The commander looked at her, not knowing that she knew that before both girls were stepping back as Clarke slightly tossed the torch to the sticks, lighting the rest of the bodies on fire. Everyone watched as the fire became bigger and bigger, burning the bodies, including... Finn Collins body. Bellamy looked down at his feet with a frown while a few tears fell down Raven's cheeks, knowing her best friend was... officially... dead. A tear fell out of Y/n's eye as her eyes casted over past the fire, seeing Finn standing there and staring right at her blankly.
About an hour or so had gone by since the grounders and sky people had all watched as Finn Collins' body and the murdered grounders were burned up by the fire. Under ground a bit, a large table could be seen in the middle of a room with food and drinks on the top as the grounders could be seen standing on one side, Octavia and Lincoln being seen on the other side.
Eventually, the other sky people could be seen stepping down the stairs as Clarke was now helping her sister walk, all of them coming to a stop in front of the opened chairs for them. Y/n soon found herself standing across from a grounder and in-between Clarke and Kane as the commander stood across from Clarke. In Kane's hands, a bottle of liquid could be seen in the palm of his hands.
"Please accept this gift, commander. We drink this at special occasions. I believe this qualifies." Kane informs.
While speaking to the commander, the man was unwrapping the bottle from the cloth it was in before holding it out for her to take. However, instead of taking it, she turns to the grounder beside her, nodding at him. Kane turns to him, holding it out and letting the man take it from him before he turned to his commander, letting her take the bottle out of his hands.
"Thank you, Marcus of the sky people." Lexa tells him.
"Your welcome, Lexa. Kom Trikru." Kane replies, quickly adding the last bit to be respectful. "Just don't drink too much of it."
Lexa looks to the blonde beside her sister. "Clarke, let us drink together."
"It would be my pleasure." Clarke states.
Two metal cups are soon placed on the table and Lexa takes the lid off the bottle, putting the same amount of liquid in each of the cups before closing it back up and picking the cups up, holding one out for Clarke. The blonde takes it just as the grounder beside the commander, Gustus, takes the cup from Lexa, telling her he'd drink it instead. Keeping his eyes glancing at the sky people, Gustus lifts the cup up and takes a gulp of the liquid before handing the cup back to Lexa.
"Tonight we celebrate our newfound peace. Tomorrow we plan our war. To those we've lost and to those we shall soon find." Lexa announces.
Just as both girls lean the cups upwards, Gustus was suddenly lurching forward and falling against the table, making it move as all their eyes go to him. They watch as he stumbled back just as someone exclaimed 'it's poison', to which Y/n was quick to knock the glass out of her sister's hand. The tables were pushed out of the way as Indra unsheathed her sword, accusing the sky people of the poison.
The sky people all huddled close as Bellamy pushed the Griffin twins behind him while Clarke tried to tell the grounders it wasn't them. Somehow, Y/n found herself gripping Bellamy's arm as he had a grip on her forearm while standing in front of her and Clarke protectively.
As Gustus was being led out by two grounders, hoping to heal him so he wouldn't die of the poison, other grounders were stomping to the people they were gonna make a truce with, grabbing ahold of them so they could search them. Y/n let out a cry of pain, alarming Abby, Bellamy and Raven, seeing Indra had ahold of her as she was searching to see if the girl had anything.
Meanwhile, Clarke had been trying to speak with the commander in hopes of telling her it wasn't them. As she was being searched, once again for what seemed the hundredth time today, Y/n found her e/c eyes meeting Finn's brown one again as he stared blankly at her.
"Commander." A grounder calls, making all of them stop as he hands a small tube to Lexa that he found from Raven.
Raven shakes her head. "That's not mine."
"This was in her coat." The grounder informs.
"I'm telling you, that's not mine." Raven repeats more firmly. "He put it there when he searched me."
"No sky person leaves this room." Lexa calls out.
With that, she was storming by the sky people with her own people following behind her. As Indra was the last one, Lincoln had tried speaking to her, both speaking in their own language. However, Indra sneered at him in their language before closing the cage-like door behind her, locking them inside.
As minutes went by, Abby helped her youngest daughter on a chair, telling her to rest for a bit even in their type of situation. At the sound of a loud snap being heard, everyone looks over to see Raven had punched Clarke before the Reyes girl was glaring at the youngest Griffin twin who stood up.
"She's the only murderer here." Raven snaps.
Seeing that she was gonna go and stomp to the e/c eyed girl, Abby was quick to get in front of the girl with the red jacket as Octavia stepped up as well. Even if she was still slightly mad at the Griffin girl, Octavia wasn't gonna let Raven harm her, seeing that she was already harmed enough. Y/n's eyes cast over Raven's shoulder, seeing Finn standing there and staring at her again.
"Leave me alone." Y/n demands quietly, making the others glance at each other in confusion as they looked to see where she was looking, but they saw nothing. "You gave me no choice. Why did you turn yourself in? Why couldn't you let me do that instead?"
Finally looking away from the boy she loved... the boy she still loves... the boy she'll always love... and the boy she... killed, the Griffin girl glances between the faces that were staring at her in confusion. When Abby went to step towards her, concern evident on her face, the girl stepped back and rushed to the corner of the room, sitting on a chair with her back facing the others, trying to ignore the pain that coursed through her body. A little bit more goes by as they seemed to leave her alone before Abby was slowly walking over to her daughter, crouching in front of her.
"Listen to me, Y/n. I know how you feel, like the pain will never go away, but you won't be haunted by this forever. The pain will fade. What got me through was loving you and Clarke." Abby assures as she wipes a tear that fell down the teenager's cheek just when Y/n leans back, squinting her eyes at her mother. "What is it?"
"You're talking about dad?" Y/n asks in disbelief. "What I did to Finn was nothing like what you did to him."
"Don't do this now, Y/n." Abby pleas.
"I was trying to protect everyone. I didn't have a choice. You did." Y/n reminds, raising her voice which makes everyone look over.
Abby shakes her head. "No."
"You turned him in." Y/n continues.
"No. I trusted Thelonious to talk to your father and convince him not to go public." Abby protests.
"You knew dad would never stop. You knew what would happen to him." Y/n states.
"I was protecting everyone, too. I was protecting you and Clarke." Abby argues, but Y/n stands up and turns away from her. "Y/n, please."
"We are the same." Y/n realizes in a whisper, looking down at her hands.
Eventually, the girl was sitting on one side of the room with Abby across from her. Clarke was pacing in-between them as they tried to figure out who framed them, knowing it couldn't have been any of them. At the sound of chains, the group all stood up to see Nyko, Indra and a few more grounders heading inside.
"How's Gustus?" Lincoln questions.
"Gustus will live." Nyko assures.
"Take her away." Indra orders.
Seeing two grounders rush over in the direction of Raven, it surprised Y/n that they weren't grabbing her instead as she and everyone else knew they wanted her dead, but went with a punishment instead. The sky people tried protesting, but it didn't work as the grounders grabbed ahold of Raven and leading her out of the room.
"The rest of you are free." Indra tells them, glaring a bit at Y/n as she says this. "When she's dead, so is the alliance. You should run."
