CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX:

"WE MAKE A GOOD TEAM."

The sun was up, hiding behind the grey clouds that had always seemed to form in the sky as people were walking around, working together, some training in case if the grounders somehow got to their side after the bridge had been bombed by Jasper and Monty and made a surprise attack. About two days or so had passed since then and people that had been sick from the virus were all better by now.

Near the gate of the walls, just outside near Bellamy, Y/n found herself standing with crossed arms as she glanced between the forest ahead of her and her sister who stood on a hill, staring out at the distance while waiting for any sign of grounders around, hoping that the bomb would've worked and they weren't gonna attack. Letting out a small sigh beneath her breath, Y/n walks to her twin, stopping a beside her.

"Anything?" Y/n asks.

Clarke shakes her head, sighing. "It's been two days, Y/n/n. Maybe the bomb at the bridge scared them off for good."

"You believe that?" Y/n questions, raising a brow at her sister.

"No. They're coming." Clarke replies.

"Jasper thinks he can cook up some more gunpowder, if he gets some sulfur, and Raven says she can turn that into landmines." Y/n explains to her sister as they began to walk back to camp. "So be careful where you step, sis."

Clarke lets out a slight laugh. "Funny."

"You know, I can't believe we survived a hundred years just so we could slaughter each other." Y/n states, remembering that many teenagers in camp wanted to attack the grounders.

"I know. There has to be another way." Clarke agrees.

"And there hasn't been any word from the Ark. Radio silence. I think..." Y/n begins, trailing off as Clarke looks to her. "I think they finally ran out of air."

"Maybe our mom was lucky being on the Exodus ship." Clarke tells her sister, grabbing her hand. "At least it was quick."

"No one's coming down to save us." Y/n whispers with a frown.

The Griffin twins look at one another, their hands held in each other's tightly while the blonde looked back over her shoulder at the e/c eyed girl. The two shared a small and sad frown as they thought of their mother, thinking about how she must've felt when the Exodus ship was crashing down.

"Fire!" A voice shouts in the distance.

The sisters exchange a look of confusion, rushing over with Bellamy right on their heels. As they got closer, their eyes widened at the sight of the smokehouse on fire with Murphy and Octavia slowly exiting it. Bellamy sped past them and to his sister, leading her a few feet away from the smokehouse.

Both Octavia and Murphy were coughing loudly from the smoke that engulfed in their lungs after they, unfortunately, breathed it in while they were escaping. Octavia found herself sitting on her knees on the ground, her brother crouched in front of her while Murphy was just crouched a few feet behind her.

"Are you okay?" Bellamy asks, getting a nod from his sister.

Meanwhile, Murphy was panting heavily as he looked up at the smokehouse. However, his gaze stopped on a boy known as Del who had been putting logs in the wood earlier, making the fire bigger as he had ignored Murphy and Octavia's warnings since the logs he put in were too big for the small smokehouse. Rage now filled Murphy as he stood up and stomped to Del.

"This is all your fault. We told you it was too much wood." Murphy reminds loudly in anger.

The large crowd watched as Murphy lunged at Del and sent punches to his face who tried to push the brunette away from him but eventually began fighting back. Deciding to step between them, Bellamy was able to push both boys away as he had his large hands on their shoulders, keeping them away from one another.

"Hey, stop!" Bellamy orders. "Save it for the grounders."

"Bell, now what the hell are we gonna do? That was all the food." Octavia reveals.

Instead of answering to her previous questions, the three leaders of the entire camp exchanged glances with one another, all of them thinking about how bad everything was getting again.

About an hour or so had passed since the smokehouse was lit on fire from Del and Bellamy, with the help of a few other campers, had been able to put the fire with buckets of water. Smoke was still emitted from the burnt wood and meat as the smokehouse had gone down, collapsing to the dirty ground. Teenagers were walking around camp after dispersing, sticks in their hands as they dealt with the burnt stuff.

Bellamy was by himself in a crouched position right in front of where the smokehouse used to be standing with Octavia and Murphy inside as they worked. He took notice of the footsteps coming in his direction, seeing the Griffin twins walking towards him in the corner of his eye until they stopped beside him, Y/n in-between the two.

"Any idea what happened?" Clarke questions.

"Murphy says that Del kept feeding the fire, mostly because Octavia told him it was a bad idea." Bellamy informs.

Y/n raises a brow, scrunching her face up. "And we believe Murphy?"

Bellamy nods. "I do. Yeah."

"We have some wild onions and nuts in the dropship. It's only enough to last us maybe one or two weeks." Clarke tells him. "What's left here?"

"Nothing. It all burned." Bellamy replies.

"Then we have to hunt. Anyone we can spare goes out." Y/n states, beginning to walk off.

Bellamy grabs her arm. "The whole grounder army out there?"

"Bellamy, she's right." Clarke agrees with her sister. "We can't defend ourselves if we're starving."

Eventually, Bellamy had given it and the three leaders ventured inside the dropship, announcing about the hunt to many teenagers. Many campers grabbed spears and guns before they headed outside of the dropship, going out to hunt. When Bellamy finished his announcement, he walked out of the dropship while the Griffin twins glanced at one another, both beginning to grab their things.

"Hey, Clarke." A boy calls out, making the blonde stop and turn to him. "You alone?"

Y/n couldn't help but smirk a bit as she slyly glanced at them while grabbing a knife from the table. Letting out a 'uh' and dragging it out, Clarke glances over her shoulder at her sister, ready to decline the boy and tell him she was going with Y/n.

"Yeah, she's alone." Y/n answers instead.

The boy smiles. "Cool. You maybe wanna go together?"

"Sure. But as long as Y/n comes with us, she doesn't have a partner." Clarke tells him.

"Oh, yeah, that's fine. The more, the merrier." The boy replies.

"I'll get some gear." Clarke says as she walks to her sister, looking at her with wide eyes. "What the hell was that?"

Y/n shrugs. "What? I would've been fine on my own."

Before either one of them could say anything more as Clarke went to open her mouth, Finn was walking over to them with a little smile as his eyes were already on Y/n while he stopped on her other side.

"You ready to go?" Finn asks.

Y/n immediately shakes her head. "I don't think so."

"Come on. I'm a good tracker. You're not too bad with a spear, and you're sneaky. We make a good team." Finn insists just as the boy from before walks over, glancing between the girls.

"Hey, partners, we're wasting daylight." The boy states, finally taking notice that Finn was there. "Oh, Finn, you're joining the band?"

Finn nods, glancing at Y/n. "Sure."

"Awesome. Haven't really got a chance to hang with you guys much. Hey, do you even know how I got arrested on the Ark?" The boy questions as they headed out of the dropship.

"I'm dying to here about it." Finn sarcastically replies.

Him and the Griffin twins all glance at each other, slight smiles on their faces as they trailed behind the boy who continued to talk.
