CHAPTER FOUR:

"JASPER'S MY BEST FRIEND."

Almost right after Jasper's attack, the, now, five teenagers made a run for it towards the forest, hoping to get back to the other teenagers and away from whoever attacked Jasper. Both Clarke and Finn had pushed Y/n in front of them, making sure she was safer.

As they all ran, Monty, who was in front of all of them, had suddenly tripped over a small log, landing face first on the ground. Octavia and Finn quickly began to help him up at the Griffin sisters stopped in front of them, their gazes then landing on many bones laying in front of them.

"Who are they?" Finn asks.

Clarke, who didn't bother replying, bends down, grabbing a skull from the dirt. The others and her eyed it as it didn't look even close to being human. Not one bit.

"What are they?" Clarke questions, correcting Finn's question.

"We are so screwed." Octavia pants out.

Suddenly, a distant and loud scream fills the silent air and ringing through their ears. It was coming back from where they had left Jasper against the tree. All five of them knew who's scream that was.

"Jasper. He's alive." Y/n states.

Quickly, she runs by all four of them, heading back towards the river. Finn was quick to follow, Clarke right on his heels, Octavia and Monty behind them as they all yelled protests to the younger Griffin sister, who ignored them. Once they had been near the river, Finn grabs ahold of Y/n, all of them hiding under the trees.

The five look to where they all last saw Jasper, only for their eyes to widen in panic upon not seeing the said boy anywhere in sight. The only thing in their eyesight was the Mount Weather sign that Jasper had held up to them.

"He was right there." Finn recalls, brows furrowing in confusion.

"Where is he?" Monty asks.

"They took him." Clarke replies.

The five teenagers had decided to make their way back to the dropship where everyone else would be at, not wanting to end up like Jasper, and also wanting to get help as Jasper was still alive. Monty and Octavia trailed behind Clarke, Y/n and Finn as they walked down a hill, Monty helping Octavia walk.

When they got closer to the dropship, their gazes landed on a large crowd that had already formed together. In the middle, stood Bellamy, Murphy and Wells. The Chancellor's son held Murphy in headlock with a knife pressed against his throat.

"Wells! Let him go!" Clarke shouts, announcing their arrival.

Doing as told, Wells shoves the boy away roughly, sending Murphy right to the ground. That didn't sit well with Murphy as he quickly rose to his feet, going to lunge at Wells, however, Bellamy held him back before the oldest Blake sibling noticed his sister and rushed over.

"Where's the food?" Bellamy soon questions.

"We didn't make it to Mount Weather." Finn tells him.

"What the hell happened out there?" Bellamy asks.

"We were attacked." Y/n informs.

"Attacked? By what?" Wells questions.

"Not what. Who." Finn corrects. "It turns out, when the last man from the ground died on the Ark, he wasn't the last Grounder."

Y/n nods. "It's true. Everything we thought we knew about the ground is wrong. There are people here, survivors. The good news is, that means we can survive. Radiation won't kill us."

"Yeah, the bad news is the Grounders will." Finn adds.

"Where's the kid with the goggles?" Wells asks.

"Jasper was hit. They took him." Clarke replies, then noticing Wells' wrist. "Where's your wristband?"

"Ask him." Wells gestures with his head at Bellamy.

"How many?" Clarke questions.

"Twenty-four and counting." Murphy replies instead with a proud smirk.

"You idiots." Clarke comments in a whisper, shaking her head. "Life support on the Ark is failing. That's why they brought us down here. They need to know the ground is survivable again, and we need their help against whoever is out there. If you take off your wristbands, you're not just killing them. You're killing us!"

"We're stronger than you think. Don't listen to her." Bellamy calls to the crowd. "She's one of the privileged. If they come down, her and her sister will have it good. How many of you can say the same? We can take care of ourselves. That wristband on your arm? It makes you a prisoner. We are not prisoners anymore! They say they'll forgive your crimes. I say you're not criminals! You're fighters, survivors! The Grounders should worry about us!"

Immediately, the crowd of teenagers all let out agreements, siding with Bellamy and going against Clarke. The blonde rolls her eyes, beginning to walk off. Y/n jogs up to her, grabbing her hand, both sisters walking off as Monty jogs up to them.

"What do we do now?" Monty asks.

"Now we go after Jasper." Y/n replies.

Y/n found herself at the bottom level of the dropship with Monty, kneeling down as she continued packing her bag so they could go and search for Jasper. Clarke and Wells' voice were heard from the top as they both began climbing down the ladder, the blonde protesting about Wells joining them.

"It's not your ankle, Wells, it's you." Clarke states.

"You came back for reinforcements. I'm gonna help." Wells argues.

"Clarke, he's right." Monty agrees. "We need him. So far no one else has volunteered."

"I'm sorry, Monty, but you're not going, either." Clarke tells him.

"Like hell I'm not." Monty protests. "Jasper's my best friend."

"You're too important. You were raised on farm station and recruited by engineering." Clarke recalls.

"So?" Monty questions.

"So food and communication. What's up here," Clarke begins, pointing at his temple. "it's gonna save us all. You figure out how to talk to the Ark and Y/n and I will bring Jasper back."

Y/n turns around to the exit, seeing Finn walking in. "Hey. You ready?"

"I'm not going anywhere, and neither should any of you." Finn objects. "That spear was thrown with pinpoint accuracy from three hundred feet."

"So what, we let Jasper die?" Monty asks in disbelief.

"That's not gonna happen." Clarke assures.

"Spacewalker? What a joke. You think you're such an adventurer. You're really just a coward." Y/n says to Finn.

"It's not an adventure, Y/n, it's a suicide mission." Finn argues, trying to reason with her.

Y/n only shakes her head in response, walking out of the dropship. Clarke follows her sister, Wells following them after speaking with Finn. Clarke leads both of them towards Bellamy and Octavia.

"You could've been killed." They hear Bellamy say to his sister.

"She would have been if Jasper didn't jump in to pull her out." Clarke cuts in as they walk over.

"You guys leaving?" Octavia questions. "I'm coming, too."

"No, no. No way. Not again." Bellamy protests, stopping her.

"He's right. Your leg's just gonna slow us down." Clarke agrees, turning to Bellamy. "I'm here for you."

"Clarke, what are you doing?" Wells asks, sharing a confused look with Y/n.

"I hear you have a gun." Clarke informs, ignoring Wells.

Bellamy lifts his shirt slightly, revealing the gun tucked in his pants.

"Good. Follow me." Clarke demands, starting to walk past him.

"And why would I do that?" Bellamy questions, making her stop.

"Because you want them to follow you, and right now, they're thinking only one of us is scared." Clarke replies before her, Y/n and Wells walk off and out of the camp.

"Those guys aren't just bullies, Clarke. They're dangerous criminals." Wells warns, glancing between both sisters.

"I'm counting on it." Clarke replies.
