CHAPTER SIX:
"DO IT FOR Y/N AND CLARKE."
ONE YEAR AGO
Clarke, Y/n and Wells sat in a living room on the Ark with the Chancellor and the girls father, Jake Griffin. All were cheering as they watched the game on the TV in front of them. Both Jaha and Wells knew of the Griffin's having a second child and kept it as it was.
As they all continued to cheer on the game in front of them, Jake patted his daughters legs. When one of the teams scored in the goal, the sisters and their father cheered, sharing a high five as Wells and his father groaned.
"They're unbeatable." Jake comments.
"Prepare for crushing defeat." Clarke says to Wells when he sits on the other side of Y/n.
"It's not over yet." Wells argues.
"Actually, it was over a hundred and forty-seven years ago." Y/n reminds.
"A technicality." Jaha replies.
"Give it up. You're going down." Jake tells him.
The door to their room suddenly opens, revealing Abigail Griffin, the girls mother and Jake's wife, walking in. Most people just call her Abby, however.
"What'd I miss?" Abby asks.
"Your husband and daughters being obnoxious." Jaha tells her.
Abby chuckles. "Jake, you better play nice."
The woman then walks to her husband, speaking some words to him as the three teenagers continue watching the game, not noticing them talking quietly, nor Jaha glancing at the husband and wife. Jake then stands up, pecking his wife on the lips.
"Everything okay?" Jaha questions.
"Oh, yeah. You know this old boat." Jake replies, opening the door. "It's always something."
The man waves at his wife, daughters, Wells and Jaha before walking out of the room, leaving the others to continue watching the game.
Clarke and Y/n kneeled on either side of Jasper, who was groaning and moaning loudly. A few feet away from them, kneeled Monty, who was trying any way to contact the Ark like Clarke had instructed him to. The blonde held hers and Y/n's father's watch in her hands, both sisters looking at it.
"His pulse is three hundred and eighty." Clarke murmurs to her sister.
When Jasper's moans in pain got louder, shouts in annoyance from below them could be heard, wanting Jasper to shut up so they could go to sleep. Gently, Clarke leans over the boy, looking down at him.
"Don't listen to them. You're gonna make it through this, okay?" Clarke quietly tells Jasper. "Promise."
"Can he just die already?" A voice yells from below.
Y/n sighs quietly. "I'm gonna get clean water. Keep an eye on him."
Receiving a nod from Clarke, Y/n climbs down the ladder, soon walking out of the dropship. As she stops on the ramp, her hand subconsciously goes to her wristband, playing with it when a child's like voice suddenly screamed out, shouting the word 'no' over and over again.
Curiously, Y/n follows the sound, looking curious. Eventually, she finds herself walking up a small hill, seeing a little girl laying at the top, her back towards the older girl as she shook in her sleep. Gently, Y/n shakes her awake, the girl sitting up and gasping.
"Hey, it's okay. It's just a dream." Y/n reassures. "You're Charlotte, right? I'm Y/n. It's okay to be scared. Do you want to talk about it?"
The girl, Charlotte, gulps. "It's... my parents. They were floated and they-- And they seeded my dreams and I just..."
"I understand. My dad was floated, too. So, how did you end up here?" Y/n asks.
"Well... We were taking my parents' things to the redistribution center and... I kind of lost it. They said I assaulted a guard." Charlotte informs.
"I can't say I blame you." Y/n states before pointing at the sky. "See that bright star up there? That's the Ark orbiting above us. I think whatever happened up there, you know, the pain... maybe we can move past that now. Maybe being on the ground is our second chance."
"Do you really believe that?" Charlotte questions.
"I'm trying to." Y/n replies.
Slowly, Charlotte leans against her, resting her head on the older girl's shoulder as Y/n wraps an arm around her petit body while looking up at the sky, seeing the Ark above them, just like she pointed out.
The next day, Y/n found herself, once again, kneeling down beside Jasper in the dropship, Clarke on the other side as both sisters tended to his wounds. Monty sat a few feet away from the, like it has been for the past day or so. Finn stood behind Y/n, watching the girls work as Jasper continued to moan in pain.
"The Grounders cauterized the wound. Saved his life." Y/n recalls.
"Saved his life so they could string him up for live bait." Finn reminds. "Garden of Eden this ain't."
"This is infected." Y/n observes. "He could be septic."
"Any progress on using the wristbands to contact the Ark?" Clarke asks, looking over at Monty. However, the boy didn't answer as he stares at Jasper. "Monty?"
"That would be a firm no." Monty replies.
"Our mother would know what to do." Clarke mumbles.
"How's he doing?" Wells questions, kneeling beside the sisters.
"How does it look like he's doing, Wells?" Y/n fires back.
"Hey, I'm just trying to help." Wells defends.
Clarke shares a look with her sister before looking at Wells. "Right. You want to help? Hold him down."
Finn, Wells and Y/n obey as the younger Griffin sibling gives the oldest a nod. Monty watches as Clarke places the knife against hot coal.
"I'm not gonna like this, am I?" Monty asks.
Once receiving a little look from the blonde, he walks over, also holding Jasper down. Y/n gives her sister one last nod before they all watch as Clarke presses the hot knife against his wound, making Jasper scream out.
"Hold him still." Clarke demands. "I need to cut away the infected flesh."
"Stop it! You're killing him." Octavia exclaims, running up to them.
"She's trying to save his life." Y/n informs.
"She can't. And neither can you." Bellamy tells the sisters, looking Y/n in the eyes.
Wells rises to his feet, facing him. "Back off."
"We didn't drag him through miles of woods just to let him die." Clarke argues.
"Kid's a goner. If you can't see that, you're deluded. He's making people crazy." Bellamy informs.
"Sorry if Jasper's an inconvenience to you, but this isn't the Ark. Down here, every life matters." Y/n replies.
"Take a look at him. He's a lost cause." Bellamy observes.
"Octavia, Clarke and I have spent our whole lives watching our mother heal people. If we say there's hope, there's hope." Y/n assures.
"This isn't about hope, it's about guts." Bellamy cuts in. "Neither of you have the guts to make the hard choices. I do. He's been like this for three days. If he's not better by tomorrow, I'll kill him myself. Octavia, let's go."
"I'm staying here." Octavia replies.
Giving in to his sister's response, Bellamy slowly climbs down the ladder as he leaves the others with a wounded Jasper.
"Power-hungry, self-serving jackass. He doesn't care about anyone but himself." Monty comments before looking at Octavia. "No offense."
Finn let's out a sigh. "Yeah. Bellamy is all that. But he also happens to be right."
Clarke and Y/n sat in their room, the youngest reading a book as her head laid in her sister's lap. The sisters sat there in silence before the sound of their door to their whole room opens. Knowing it was their father, they go out to greet him, however, stop when they hear their parents talking to one another.
"How'd it go?" Abby questions.
"Hey. Well, I told Jaha it's definitive. The Ark's got a year of oxygen left, maybe two." Jake informs.
"You'll fix it." Abby reassures, sounding sure of herself.
"Not this time." Jake denies. "I've tried, Abby. This isn't a glitch. It's a system failure. People need to know."
"No. They'll panic." Abby replies.
"You sound like Kane." Jake comments.
"Because he's right." Abby fires back.
"No. We can't avoid the truth. We have to let everyone on the Ark put their minds to a solution." Jake states.
"What, and risk anarchy?" Abby asks. "No. It's too dangerous. Promise me that you'll obey the council's orders, that you'll keep it quiet. Promise me."
Jake shakes his head. "I can't."
"For Clarke and Y/n. Do it for Y/n and Clarke." Abby tries.
"I am doing this for them." Jake replies.
"They'll float you, Jake." Abby reminds. "If you do this, I won't be able to stop it."
The two Griffin sisters glance at one another, their eyes wide upon hearing the news that they weren't even supposed to know about.
