CHAPTER SEVEN:
"I'M STILL YOUR GUYS FRIEND."
After, once again, tending to Jasper's cuts and bruises, Y/n found herself seated outside of the dropship beside her sister, both looking at the stuff the Grounders had put on Jasper when they took him away. Hearing footsteps coming over to them, Y/n looks up, seeing Finn stopping in front of her. Clarke didn't even bother to look, knowing the boy was here for her sister.
"You're mad." Finn observes, staring at Y/n.
Y/n sighs. "I'm not mad. You want to think Jasper's a lost cause, go ahead. You're wrong."
"I hope I am." Finn tells her.
"Whatever this stuff is, it has to have had antibiotic properties." Clarke speaks up.
Finn crouches down beside Y/n as he looks in one direction. The sisters follow his gaze, seeing Wells walking over to them, crouching down beside them.
"Let me take a look." Wells offers. "And before you two refuse my help, remember who aced Botany in Earth Skills."
"The Grounders used it as a poultice." Clarke informs.
"Clarke and I were thinking a tea might be even more effective if we can figure out what it is." Y/n adds, looking at Finn.
"I know what it is. Seaweed. Look-- No root structure." Wells informs.
Clarke nods slightly, looking to her sister. "Alright. Well, then there must be a water source nearby."
"Yeah, it would have to have a slow current, lots of rocks. The water would probably be more red than green." Wells replies.
"I know just the place." Finn tells the girls, mainly looking at the youngest.
"Alright. Let's go." Y/n instructs, her and Clarke standing up.
The sisters begin to walk off, Finn following them as they all leave Wells behind, who also stood up, staring at them.
"Hey. I know what this stuff looks like. Do you?" Wells calls to them.
And that was how the sisters and Finn found themselves walking through the forest with Wells, making their way to the place Finn claimed to know where. Clarke and Y/n both led the way, the boys trailing behind them.
"You know, you two should, uh, really rethink this whole hating me thing. It's not just the Grounders. We're surrounded by criminals. The three of us need each other. We're all gonna be friends again." Wells says to the sisters.
"You got our dad killed." Clarke reminds. "Not possible."
Wells sighs quietly. "This is Earth, guys. Anything's possible."
The girls ignored Wells as they walked up a small hill, continuing their way as Finn and Wells find themselves going on a small different path, but still close to Y/n and Clarke.
"I'd let it go." Finn tells the Chancellor's son.
"Yeah. Well, I've known Y/n and Clarke their whole lives better than you ever will, so, I'll decide when to let it go." Wells fires back.
"Yeah, I can tell you three are close." Finn comments.
Just then, his foot suddenly steps on something, a bang sound being heard. Wells walks over from behind him, the girls stopping in their tracks and turning around, watching as Finn opens up a door to something.
"It's an automobile." Wells murmurs.
"Come on, guys. This thing's been here a hundred years. Alright? It can wait." Y/n calls to them.
"Jasper can't." Clarke adds.
With that, they walk off, Wells being quick to follow after them, Finn being the last one. The four teenagers walked for a few minutes before they found themselves at a lake, stopping on all the rocks while glancing around in search of the seaweed Wells was talking about.
"So, what does this seaweed look like?" Clarke asks.
Wells looks around the lake before pointing at some red seaweed in the water. "Like that. Hey, that thing that bit Octavia, how big was it?"
"Big." Finn replies. "We could rig this into some kind of a net. Find something to lower it into the water."
Not going with his idea, Clarke and Y/n walk straight past him and into the water.
"Or we could just do that." Finn adds.
The girls stop in the water at their hips as they grab the seaweed, walking back to them. Once they stop in front of the boys, many birds squawking in the distance is heard, followed by a hoard of birds turning the corner and flying right past the four, making them all duck down to avoid being hit by one.
"Let's get out of here." Wells speaks up.
The sisters walk to Finn, dumping the seaweed they had into his bag, just as a loud, distant horn is heard.
"Grounders?" Clarke suggests.
"It could be a war cry." Wells suggests his own idea.
"Or a warning." Finn adds.
The horn sounds continue when a rumbling type sound follows. The four look over to their right, eyes widening upon seeing a large tornado-like shape of, what looked to be fog, heading straight towards them.
"What the hell is that?" Y/n questions.
"Run!" Clarke shouts.
They all obeyed, leaving the lake as they found themselves running through the forest again. Finn made his way to the front, leading the way before they stop at the automobile him and Wells found earlier. He quickly opens the door, letting the other three get in before following in suit.
Once Clarke said about the fog getting inside the automobile, her and Y/n begun to cover any of the openings, wanting nothing more than to be back at camp again. Once knowing they had them covered, they sat down. They all sat in silence for a few minutes until Finn looked out the window.
"It's still out there." Finn informs.
"Look, we should just make a run for it. Jasper can't wait much longer." Y/n states.
"Us dying in a cloud of acid fog isn't gonna help Jasper." Finn retorts.
The boy then finally get the cabinet he had been trying to open up, opened. Reaching inside, he holds up a glass bottle full of liquid.
"Is that--" Clarke begins.
Booze." Finn interrupts, moving to sit beside Y/n. "Hooch. Rotgut."
The other three watch as he opens it up before slowly bringing it to his lips.
"Well, careful." Y/n warns. "Finn, it could be..."
"Whiskey, I think. Better than moonshine on Agro station." Finn states before offering it to Wells.
"Alcohol's toxic." Wells tells him.
"This is Earth. Everything's toxic." Finn fires back. "Plus, it's a time-honored rite of passage."
"We'll pass." Wells replies, motioning to him, Clarke and Y/n.
Y/n stares at him before grabbing the bottle from Finn. "Far be it from me to stand in the way of tradition."
The others watch as she takes a swig of the alcohol before letting out a cough. Mumbling a small 'screw it', Clarke takes it from her sister, also taking a gulp before handing it back to Finn, who smiles a little at Y/n.
A few hours pass and Clarke and Y/n were both leaning against one another, taking turns on gulping the alcohol down. Both girls were... let's just say... tipsy. Finn found it kinda amusing as he stared at Y/n.
"It's been hours. Jasper--" Y/n begins.
"Jasper's in good hands." Finn reassures, interrupting her. "Octavia will take care of him."
"While we're on the subject, why is it that everyone thinks me and Y/n wanting Jasper to not die is a bad thing?" Clarke questions. "Like I'm such a downer. I can be fun."
"Yeah, me too." Y/n agrees, then looking to Finn. "You think I'm fun. Right?"
Finn nods with a little smile. "Oh, yeah. Among other things."
"You're fun. Both of you." Wells firmly speaks up. "You two remember that time--"
"Remember that time you betrayed us and got our father executed?" Clarke reminds, interrupting him. "Yeah, I remember. Me and Y/n remember. Where were we? Fun."
"Well, since you brought it up, and I didn't, because I don't want to talk about it, what were you thinking?" Y/n asks Wells.
"I made a mistake, guys." Wells sadly replies.
Clarke scoffs. ""I made a mistake, guys". Not good enough. You know, I bet you couldn't wait to run to daddy. Tell him everything so that he'd finally believe you were the perfect son he always wanted."
"What do you want me to say?" Wells shouts.
"We want an explanation." Clarke replies, motioning to her sister.
"I can't give you guys one." Wells whispers after a moment of silence. "I thought I could trust him."
Y/n shakes her head, leaning back against the seat. "Well, we thought we could trust our best friend. Guess all of us were both wrong."
"I'm still your guys friend." Wells insists.
"No, you're not." Clarke denies. "If you were our friend, you would walk out into that fog and never come back."
"Okay, how about we just... take it easy." Finn suggests after another second of silence, taking the bottle from Y/n's hands.
"I have no idea how to do that." Y/n replies in a whisper.
Wells leans forward, swiftly taking the bottle from Finn before taking a gulp, at first, scrunching his face up from the taste of the alcohol. The four all sit there in silence as they try to get past on what just happened.
"So, we having fun yet?" Finn breaks the silence.
