Lindsay made her way soundlessly down the long staircase to the living room down below. She was dubious on how to find the kitchen since Namjoon had obviously forgotten to give her the full house tour, but she was not in doubt for long when she heard Seo-Jun's high pitched childish laughter and the clinkering of silverware and plates being kept on a table.
She followed the sounds across the living room which successfully led her to her destination.
In the kitchen she found the ever so sweet Seo-Jun patiently seated at the long dining table and Namjoon was leaning against the counter staring at his phone which he held in his hand. Upon her entry, Seo-Jun gave an excited gasp. "Lindsay!" he exclaimed while animatedly waving his hand at her. Namjoon glanced up from his phone screen and gave her an uninterested look, the complete opposite of his sibling's.
"Lindsay, wonderful, you're here!" he said though his tone didn't at all reflect any sort of happiness over the fact that she was present in the room. "We can finally start having dinner." He said before walking over to the pantry and getting some saucepans down.
"Actually, Namjoon?" Lindsay hesitantly spoke up making Namjoon stop and look at her. "I'd be honored to make dinner tonight for the both of you." she offered with a smile. "It's the least that I could do for your generosity."
"Yeah, that won't be necessary," Namjoon dryly said before continuing his task of getting the equipment down. Why did I expect anything different from him? Lindsay thought to herself dejectedly.
"I want to try Lindsay's cooking!" Seo-Jun, however proclaimed as he eagerly banged his palms on the table. "Come on, hyung, please?" he pleaded his brother with the cutest puppy eyes he could muster making Lindsay's heart melt in the process. "Look, I'm not going to let the kitchen burn down," Namjoon firmly stated as he arranged the saucepans neatly on the counter.
"We need to give her a chance, hyung!" Seo-jun protested adamantly with a small pout forming on his face.
Namjoon switched his glance back and forth between his eager brother and Lindsay who stood patiently to the side, her lips compressed into a tight grimace. Finally, he groaned loudly before putting down the saucepan which he had been holding. 'Ok, fine!" he said putting his hands in the air, accepting defeat. He turned to glare at his innocent brother. "But if you start throwing up just because she had mistakenly added gasoline instead of vegetable oil, I hope you know how to take care of yourself."
Lindsay at that moment seriously considered the option of lifting the entire dining table and hurling it at his beautiful figure that she so highly despised. Seo-Jun on the other hand didn't seem to be fazed at all by his brother's warnings and continued giving him his confident smile.
"No need to cook for me. I'll be ordering takeout." Saying that he brushed passed Lindsay's shoulder and into the living room.
Rude much? Lindsay thought irritated.
As soon as his brother was out of ear shot, Seo-Jun burst into another one of his radiant smiles before waving Lindsay over to come closer to him. Lindsay obeyed and moved herself to stand by him. She bent over to him as he whispered in her ear, "Don't let my hyung get to you," he said. "He's not the best cook on the planet for all he shows. We order takeout many times than you could have imagined."
To say that Lindsay was taken back by surprise was an understatement. She was dumbfounded at this new found info. She felt really privileged to actually be one of the few or dare she assumed the only person to ever know of an activity that Namjoon was bad at. "I'm glad to know that he's not a robot," she giggled as she playfully ruffled Seo-Jun's hair.
She straightened up to her full height before excitedly rubbing her hands together. "Ok, time to cook!" she declared. "Yay!" Seo-jun exclaimed with a little applause. "I'll help you," he offered before getting down from his chair.
~Time Skip~
"Well, then Seo-Jun, I guess it's time for me to hit the sack," It was half past 8pm and Lindsay together with Seo-Jun were standing right outside her closed bedroom door. Lindsay had used all of her culinary skills and had prepared a fulfilling dish of fried rice for both her and Seo-Jun's dinner and no, unlike to what Namjoon predicted she did not burn the kitchen down or add any dangerous elements into any of the saucepans. It all went pretty smoothly and no mishaps happened, for that night at least.
Seo-Jun struggle to stifle a yawn as he sleepily mumbled, "Yeah, it's getting pretty late. Oh well, goodnight then, Lindsay." Saying that he again wrapped his dear little arms around the girl's slender waist in a warm hug. "Sweet dreams, Seo-Jun," Lindsay whispered as she returned the warm hug. In case you are wondering, Namjoon hadn't even bothered to come up and wish her goodnight but Lindsay didn't mind as she had seen that coming from centuries back.
Soon after she had waved Seo-Jun off, Lindsay opened the door and stepped into the huge but charming room. She fell back on the fluffy canopy and pulled the thick comforter over her body until it reached her chin. She was laying on her back staring straight ahead at the foreign ceiling above which was littered with spirals of unlit lights. The heavy curtains remained closed over the tall windows of the room enclosing the entire room in a mist of darkness. There was not a single sliver of sound to be heard.
However, no matter how hard Lindsay tried, she just couldn't get herself to fall asleep!
She tossed and turned multiple times on her bed trying to sleep in whichever position she could think of but all she managed in achieving was a merciless back pain. She even tried sandwiching her head in between the fluffy pillows but it was a futile attempt. She groaned in frustration and started to beat the pillows up in anger. She huffed exasperatedly before falling back again onto the covers.
The reason why she couldn't fall asleep was not at all because the bed was in some way uncomfortable. No way! The bed was so comfy that her own bed couldn't even dream of achieving its standards. Nevertheless, it was her own turmoil of worries which was preventing her from getting a decent amount of shut eye. She just couldn't stop thinking about what Namjoon must be doing right now. And no, it is not to be mistaken for any romantic point of view. She was just horrifyingly afraid on whether Namjoon was actually down in his room plotting some kind of major and brutal attack against her. She could almost hear his evil laugh echoing from the walls around her like some sort of a never-ending horror movie.
She shuddered despite the warmth of the covers. Her heart started to race yet she forced herself to stay calm and wait.
She waited and waited. Until,
"I can't stay here anymore!" she firmly decided to herself. She threw the duvets off of her before clambering down from the bed. She examined her now messy bed for a few moments before deciding on taking the blanket and just one of the massive pillows and tucking them underneath her arm.
She then shuffled her way through the darkness of her room before opening the door and stepping out into the even darker corridor. She literally had to feel her way through to get around to at least reach the staircase and this was not an easy task to do considering the fact that she was juggling a blanket and a pillow at the same time.
She hastily made her way down the stairs, however being careful with over where she placed her foot knowing full well of her own signature clumsiness.
She silently cheered as she had somehow successfully made her way to stand right infront of the closed entrance door. She reached out to gently clasp the door knob in her hand before slowly turning the key around with her other hands to make it unlock with a satisfying click. Before she knew it she was out in Namjoon's open porch, the chilling air cutting across her face.
She huffed and panted as she somehow forced herself to walk a couple of meters away from Namjoon's house while holding the blanket and the pillow this entire time. Once she felt like she was at a safe distance from Namjoon's evil clutches, she sighed a breath of relief before kneeling down on the cold and dull sidewalk.
She unfolded the blanket and spread it neatly over the sidewalk, placing the pillow on top of it right after. She laid down on her makeshift bed and let her head hit the pillow. It was super uncomfortable and she almost missed the comforts of the bed at Namjoon's house but hey better safe than sorry. Pleased at her new found content, she found her eyelids gradually getting heavy before they started to droop and before she knew it she had succumbed to a deep sleep, on the sidewalk.
....
....
"Hey, Lindsay. Wake up!"
Lindsay moaned in slumber but didn't quite wake up, instead she rolled over onto her side to avoid the voice.
"Lindsay, get up!" the voice urged her again. "Mhm, gwo...awayyy...lemme sleep," she sleepily mumbled with her eyes tightly shut.
To her utmost terror, the voice chose to holler itself right in her open ear. "LINDSAY, I SWEAR TO GOD, YOU BETTER WAKE UP RIGHT NOW!"
With a flash of linen, Lindsay eyes shot open in shock as she immediately leapt to a sitting position completely alarmed and ready to strike. "I'm awake! I'm awake!" she shrieked as she held her hands up defensively glancing around furiously to meet her intruder. She let her hands drop and her tense muscles relax when she found out that the person who had woken her up was none other than Namjoon who was wearing a pair of striped pajamas. "You?! Seriously?" she groaned angrily at him making Namjoon double back. "I was trying to get some sleep for at least two seconds but you just had to come and ruin it!"
Namjoon stared at her astounded and quite speechless for several moments at her outburst. "Well, I'm sorry that you chose to sleep on the sidewalk in the middle of the night for some reason." He snapped back at her.
And indeed she was.
"What the actual heck gave you the idea of running away?" Namjoon yelled at the now fully awakened Lindsay.
Lindsay stared back in shock at Namjoon's snaring eyes glinting with sheer rage directed solely at her. She gulped and almost felt like making a run for it but her body felt frozen. Instead, she decided to do the only thing that could save her at this point.
Lie.
Which was something she was definitely not good at.
Lindsay broke out into a sheepish smile before saying with a nervous chuckle, "Haha, I wasn't running away," she lamely lied. "I just really like falling asleep under the starry sky." She stretched her arms above her head in an exaggerated manner before lethargically lying back on the sidewalk, with her arms beneath the back of her head to look up at the sky. Of course, while sneaking glances at Namjoon from her peripheral vision to see his reaction.
She heard him give a deep sigh and saw him place his hand on his forehead. "Lindsay," he said. "There are no stars up in the sky tonight." Lindsay desperately scanned the dark sky to search for one silver speck but failed. The sky was empty, just like her mind. Stupid sky!
She frantically cleared her throat and swallowed before saying in a high pitched voice that usually happens when she's extremely nervous, "Ah, I'm sure you must be mistaken. I can see plenty of stars from where I'm at." She finished with another one of her nervous chuckles.
"I'll make you see stars in front of you if you don't get yourself back to my house," Namjoon growled before making a grab for her arm. Feeling Namjoon's strong hands grip her arm so violently, she felt herself shake and panic. "Wait!" she screeched as she tried to twist her arm away. "I like breathing in the fresh midnight breeze!" she shouted out another fib.
Namjoon heaved and grunted before using his awesome strength to lift a struggling Lindsay to her feet. "You're literally right next to a dumpster and it reeks!" he pointed out never letting go of the firm grip he had on her.
Argh my dumb brain! She angrily cursed herself as Namjoon was literally dragging her across the street. She tried to brace her feet on the pavement but it was no use, Namjoon just effortlessly dragged her around like a dog being dragged by a leash by his master.
However, unknowing to the scuffling duo, no one noticed that deep within the shadows of the dark woods which were situated right across from the sidewalk, lurked a sinister rugged looking man with a glint of malice and danger embedded in his sickeningly yellow but blood shot eyes. He pulled the stub of the smoking cigarette from his lips, never breaking the intense stare he held on the almost wrestling duo of teenagers not far off from him. To be more specific, his attention was immensely fascinated by the brunette girl in particular. A look of revolting lust and desire flashed across his eyes at the sight of her.
Meanwhile, Lindsay had firmly made up her mind that no matter what happened, she will never return to Namjoon's premises and live every second questioning her survival ever again. She was not going to let him have his way.
She decided that in desperate situations such as this, there was only one solution to this. She took a breath before shouting as loudly as she could to the midnight winds, "HELP! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME! THIS MAN IS TRYING TO KIDNAP ME, PLEASE!"
At the sound of her wolf calls, Namjoon whipped his head around to glare at her so fast that his neck could have snapped then and there. "What the heck are you doing?" he hissed as he stopped in his tracks to face her but never letting go of her.
"I'm not coming back with you." Lindsay said with pauses between each word to convey to Namjoon how strongly she felt about her decision.
Namjoon scoffed and shook his head. "You're being ridiculous. Come on!" he said before tugging at her arm again however Lindsay bravely battled it. "NO!" she yelled then to Namjoon's terror she continued her cries for help. "SOMEBODY PLEASE SAVE ME!"
In the woods opposite to the streets, the ominous man observed the scene in fascination. His evil eyes never left the young girl's figure as she screamed and begged while the confused boy tried to shush her and calm her down to the best of his abilities. He thirstily licked his dry lips. "She's feisty. I'm going to love her." he said to himself amused.
Wasting no time, he put one of his large feet which sported heavy dirty boots in front of him, taking a step towards the street. Just as he was about to take another stride, his dark soul was nearly drawn out of him when he heard the screeching of sirens and saw flashes of red and blue from the distance.
Crap, the cops are here! He thought horrified. He immediately retreated and soundlessly scampered off into the depths of the forest.
Lindsay and Namjoon instantly stopped in the middle of their bickering as a black and white police car, with the signature sirens flashing on its hood skidded to a halt in front of them. They stared in aghast as the doors of the car opened and out stepped two policemen each holding a gun aimed directly at the duo.
"I command the both of you to put your hands up in the air where I can see them." One of the policemen instructed still pointing the gun. Completely shocked and dazed Lindsay and Namjoon obeyed without question and surrendered themselves.
The other policeman swiftly made his way towards the teenagers and placed himself behind them. "For violent attempts at kidnapping," he curtly said before grabbing both of Namjoon wrists and pulling them to be placed behind his back and imprisoning them in a pair of metal handcuffs. "Wait what? No! I wasn't kidnapping her!" Namjoon protested stupefied. "Silence!" the policeman berated. He moved over to Lindsay before grabbing her wrists and handcuffing them as well in the same manner. "Officer Jeon," the policeman signaled to his colleague.
"Get in the car. You two will be coming to the station with us." Officer Jeon said as he opened the back seat doors. Lindsay and Namjoon managed to only exchange a look of alarm for a brief moment before they were thrusted in to the back of the car by the other policeman. Soon, Officer Jeon shut the door after them.
