SCARLETT HART THOUGHT SHE WAS BETTER OFF ON HER OWN.

She'd seen how the world worked, and came up with the most logical conclusion that the most reliable person in the world—the one she could truly count on—was herself. It didn't matter if they were mortal or immortal. No one ever stuck around, or cared that much. She learned to be okay with that.

Life was all about balance. No one was supposed to have too much good fortune, or too much misfortune. When the equilibrium shifted, someone needed to balance it out. Someone like Scarlett.

If she felt like something was unjust, Scarlett took it upon herself to deliver retribution. Scheming was her specialty. If someone crossed her, she made sure they'd get karma. Revenge was the language she was most fluent in.

All of Camp Half-Blood was aware of her reputation. Most of the time, they steered clear of her, not wanting to get caught in her fire. Other times, they would enlist her help to get payback on someone they felt deserved it. Scarlett earned the title of being the unofficial judge, jury, and executioner when solving disputes. She judged, gathered evidence, and ultimately decided the extent of punishments.

Scarlett learned that if she couldn't make people love her, then she can make them fear her.

And maybe . . . just maybe . . . her mother would claim her too.

It was clear as day who it was. Everyone knew it. Besides a few small occasions, the goddess never acknowledged her existence.

As the years grew, Scarlett's resentment toward the Olympians grew more and more. They were deemed as infallible and untouchable. But maybe one day, she could give them a taste of their own medicine. Scarlett was willing to wait for the day she could get them back. The perfect opportunity to make them pay their retribution. Realize that demigods were more than just pawns in their games.

When Percy Jackson waltzed his way into camp, Scarlett tried not to care. So what if he was the son of Poseidon and the strange boy in her dreams? So what if he killed the Minotaur on his first try? He wasn't supposed to matter. She wasn't supposed to be intrigued. He was supposed to be a boring, shallow, "hero" boy who flaunted his victories.

But that wasn't him.

Percy was kind and selfless. An actual hero, who somehow grew interested in Scarlett as well.

He even invited her on his first quest, which marked the start of her world flipping completely off its axis.

everyone thank sdcc for happening bc all the content gave me sm motivation

currently revising chapters of act i & ii which should hopefully (fingers crossed) won't take too long !! i made a few changes (like scar being unclaimed) but otherwise the story is primarily the same as it was first published. there may also be some new scenes added to chapters especially in the first act !!
