[It's a flashback. Alec and Magnus are having breakfast.]

FREYA: It's a flashback.

MAGNUS: Mm... These waffles are unbelievable. Even better than your French toast.

ALEC: I've been getting good, aren't I?

KOL: Progress, not bad.

MAGNUS: Mm-hmm.

ALEC: I'm thinking about taking the next step. [Magnus leans in, interested] Crêpes.

MAGNUS: Ooh... Careful. A man can get used to this type of treatment.

ALEC: Oh, you haven't seen anything yet. [rising and holding his hand out] Care to dance? [Magnus smiles and leans back in his chair] What?

MAGNUS: Oh, I'm just remembering Havana. [Alec rolls his eyes.] Salsa dancing at the Tropicana? I still have nightmares of your two left feet.

They laughed at this.

ALEC: Oh, it wasn't that bad.

MAGNUS: Hmm...

ALEC: I've been practicing.

MAGNUS: Really, now? OK.

[Magnus takes Alec's hand and gets up. Magnus slides the furniture out of the way with his magic. They start dancing with some jazz music in the background. Alec takes Magnus in a pose, holding him.]

They smile seeing the two couple.

ALEC: Magnus, I do believe you're speechless.

[They switch positions.]

MAGNUS: I'm a lot of things right now, Alexander.

[They continue dancing. Magnus leans out.]

ALEC: Magnus, stay with me.

[Alec pulls Magnus back and they dance closer together.]

MAGNUS: I'm here.

ALEC: Stay with me.

CAROLINE: Magnus was thinking of this memory and he was listening your voice.

Alec nods.

[They start turning and turning.]

MAGNUS: Slow down. Slow down! [They lose contact, their hands let go.] Alexander!

[Magnus is drifting away.]

ALEC: Magnus, stay with me!

[Cut to the present, Alec's office, where last episode left off. Magnus is unconscious on the floor. Alec is feeling his pulse.]

ALEC: Stay with me! Come on! Come on, Magnus. Stay with me. Come on!

They felt bad for Alec at that moment.

[Catarina enters in a rush.]

CATARINA: What happened?

[Alec rises, Catarina kneels by Magnus' body. Izzy, Theo and Jonathan have entered too.]

ALEC: Catarina, he... he just collapsed. I don't know. You have to do something. He's not breathing.

BONNIE: Oh, my god!

JONATHAN: Oh, my god!

ISABELLE: By the Angel!

ALEC: Hey, Magnus. Magnus! Can you hear me?!

CATARINA: [charging her magic] Stand back...

ALEC: Please, I'm right here!

THEO: Stand back!

[Catarina and Theo fire electric waves at Magnus' body.]

HAYLEY: You were charging electric waves at her body.

ALEC: Catarina, is he gonna be all right?

CATARINA: Come on, Magnus!

THEO: Hang in there!

[INTRO IS SHOWN]

Rosaline opens her eyes and flashes her alpha eyes who had golden hue. She swings her katanas and fearless rune is showed. Achatius is standing in Edom and his eyes turn black and white wings appear behind his back. Theodore's magical bow appears and he stretches its string forming the strength rune. Jonathan is shown showing his demon eyes and his seraph blade appears. He cuts the air and flexibility rune is show. Clary is seen blowing the candles on her birthday cake forming the angelic rune. Jace is seen jumping from a building with eagles surrounding him. He jumps on the ground splashing the water which forms heightened speed rune. Alec is seen a room with healing rune drawn on one of the walls. He aims his arrow. Isabelle is now shown swinging her blade forming the parabatai rune. Simon is seen wiping the blood on his lips in hotel de mort. The whole background turns black and white. Luke is seen with a wall behind him covered with runes and wolves. Magnus is drinking his cocktail. Scene splits and shows Theo and Rose using their magic and flashing their golden red eyes. Achatius hands have sparkles dancing. Then all the runes are shown burning and Rosaline, Theo, Clary, Jace, Jonathan, Alec and Isabelle are shown walking and the title Shadowhunter appears with The Mortal Instruments written below. And the screen turns black.

[TITLE SCREEN]

[ACHATIUS' APARTMENT]

[Achatius enters the dining room with a bloody sword in his hand. He throws it on the table and sighs. The Seelie Lanaia enters.]

LANAIA: How'd it go?

[Lanaia takes of Jonathan's coat.]

ACHATIUS: Fantastic. One dead end after another. None of Mirek's clients have the Morning Star blade. [flipping through a book] There's one name left. At least, I think it's a name. It looks like it's written in some Seelie language. What is it?

[Lanaia looks at the only name that's not crossed off.]

LANAIA: These are letters from the ancient Seelie alphabet. A-M-A-R-A.

KLAUS: Amara. The Seelie Queen.

DAVINA: The Seelie bitch has the sword.

ACHATIUS: Amara? The Seelie Queen?

LANAIA: So, you know. Our Queen goes by many names... some of them not very well known.

ACHATIUS: I had no idea that the Seelie Queen took an interest in antiquities. Will you arrange an audience with Her Highness?

LANAIA: I can try.

ACHATIUS: Excellent.

[CITY OF BONES]

[Jace, Rose and Clary have come to the Silent Brothers. After her ritual, Rose descends the stairs and meets with Jace and Clary in the dungeon.]

JACE: Rose.

CLARY: Hey.

[Jace hands Rose her jacket.]

ROSE: I'm fine. I didn't feel a thing.

JACE: Good. Okay, that's good.

CLARY: What'd they do to you?

ROSE: They couldn't do anything. The demonic tether that binds me to Achatius is... stronger than anything they've ever seen before.

JACE: Okay. Well, look. That... that doesn't mean we're out of options. Look, you... you saw that illustration with me. Michael separated himself from Lucifer. That means there has to be a way.

[Clary thinks about it.]

CLARY: Maybe we go straight to the source.

ROSE: Are you talking about Lilith?

CLARY: She gave you the rune. [Jace is shaking his head.] She's gotta know how to remove it.

ELENA: You shouldn't involve her it's dangerous.

JACE: No.

ROSE: You are right. Never thought about it but Lilith can help me.

CLARY: A warlock can summon her. We can-

JACE: No. No. No. Look, we just got rid of her, and it almost cost you and Theo your life.

ROSE: I don't know what else to do. [Her breathing becomes heavier.] Look, when I saw Achatius last night, I couldn't call for help. I couldn't walk away. I couldn't do anything! [She was starting to have a panic attack.] And after what happened with Aline, and the fire, I... I... I can feel it, Jace, Clary!

KLAUS: You were having a panic attack.

CLARY: She is having a panic attack.

ROSE: It's this darkness. It's growing, and I- [She gets flashes of past. She sees her self covered in blood and laughing as she kills someone important to Rose. She screams, no.]

Rose flinches at this scene and Achatius hugs her. Klaus also sees them.

[Jace holds Rose.]

JACE: Rose, calm down, okay.

[Cut to Achatius, who feels the same. Cut to Rose, she hears a voice in her mind.]

ACHATIUS: [in mind] Calm down, Rose. Control your breathing.

CAROLINE: You were trying to help her.

ROSE: [in mind] I can't.

ACHATIUS: [in mind] Yes, you can. Try hold holding your breathe.

[Rose does so and she calms down. She was a little surprised.]

BONNIE: The panic attack was gone.

ROSE: [in mind] Kate?

[She gets no response.]

CLARY: Are you okay?

ROSE: Yes, I am. I am sorry.

JACE: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, listen to me. You are a good person. And there is no rune that's gonna change that.

REBEKAH: That is true.

[THE INSTITUTE, INFIRMARY]

[Magnus is lying in a bed, unconscious, eyes closed. Alec is sitting by his bedside.]

ALEC: Magnus, I... I don't know if you can hear me. This is my fault. I was selfish. When you first lost your powers, and you said you were okay with it, I... I didn't think twice. I guess I was just so happy that maybe we could... grow old together. [sniffles] I guess I just didn't realize... deep down, how much you were suffering. Magnus, I love you... more than anyone in the world, and... [taking Magnus' hand] I'm... I'm so sorry. I'm sorry.

Their eyes were wet by now. Magnus was smiling seeing how much Alec loved him.

[The sliding doors open and close, Catarina and Theo enter.]

CATARINA: May we come in?

[Alec rises and turns to Catarina and Theo.]

ALEC: Yeah. Did you manage to... make contact with the people at the Spiral Labyrinth?

CATARINA: Yes, and I shared the test results, and he agreed.

THEO: Magnus's body is rejecting Lorenzo's magic.

ALEC: Rejecting? What do you mean?

CATARINA: Think of it like a failing organ transplant. Each time Magnus performs a spell, it puts a tremendous strain on his body. He got lucky this time. He will regain consciousness.

DAMON: So, this was a failed organ transplant.

THEO: But if he uses magic again, even for something small, he might not survive.

ALEC: Why can't you two just... fix him? Why can't you just take Lorenzo's magic out?

CATARINA: I wish we could.

FREYA: Lorenzo is the only one who can get out the magic.

THEO: The only one who can reverse the transfer is the person who gave it to him.

ALEC: Lorenzo did this on purpose.

CATARINA: Alec, there's no way he could have planned it.

THEO: With magic transfusions, there's always this possibility.

ALEC: No. He knew how desperate Magnus was. He took advantage of him. I'm not gonna let this son of a bitch get away with it.

ELIJAH: That wasn't the time of acting with temper.

[Alec is about to go to the door, but Theo holds him back.]

CATARINA: You need to settle down. What's the Shadowhunter saying? "Emotions cloud judgement"? You lose your temper with Lorenzo, he'll have less incentive to help.

THEO: Catarina is right, like it or not, Lorenzo Rey is Magnus's only hope.

[THE INSTITUTE, INFIRMARY HALL]

[Rose glances over at Magnus just before the sliding door closes. Izzy, Jonathan, Clary and Simon are waiting in the hall as well, sitting on chairs.]

SIMON: Hey, Fray, Rose, he's gonna be okay.

CLARY: First Luke goes to prison, and now this.

ROSE: Why is every bloody thing falling apart?

CAROLINE: [sadly] Oh!

[Simon rises.]

SIMON: Hey. Hey. Hey, Rose. Hey! Fray!

[Rose turns to Simon, she's frustrated, angry.]

ROSE: What, Simon?! What, are you gonna make some joke to try and get me to feel better?

BONNIE: You burst out.

[Both Simon and Rose are shocked by Rose's sudden fire. Jace approaches her.]

JACE: Rose...

ROSE: I am sorry, Simon. I didn't want to.

[Rose turns to Jace. She's emotional.]

ROSE: I can't live like this. Jace, we have to do it.

ISABELLE: Do what?

JONATHAN: Yeah, I have the same question?

SIMON: Rose, what's going on?

[THE INSTITUTE, OPS CENTER]

[Jace meets Simon, Izzy, Jonathan, Rose and Clary in the Ops Center.]

JACE: I spoke to Catarina. She won't summon Lilith. Too dangerous. Can't you or Theo summon her?

ACHATIUS: Well, you two can not summon her, then, who summoned her?

ROSE: You know.

ROSE: No, we can't. Our magic works a little different from warlocks.

SIMON: Well, can... can we find another warlock?

ISABELLE: There's no one else we can trust.

CLARY: What about me? What if I use my rune ability to summon Lilith?

HOPE: Is that possible?

CLARY: It is.

JONATHAN: The runes were designed to give us the power to fight demons, not summon them.

CLARY: Look, I know it's a long shot... but if I can create a rune that can bring back the dead, isn't this worth trying? What other choice do we have?

JACE: Okay. Let's say we manage to summon Lilith. What's to stop her from escaping?

JONATHAN: Or attacking us?

ISABELLE: The Malachi Configuration. It was built to contain greater demons.

STEFAN: That was a great idea.

JACE: Right, but not the Queen of Hell.

ROSE: We need a contingency plan.

ISABELLE: A way to send her back to Edom if she gets loose.

JEREMY: Mark of Cain.

SIMON: The Mark of Cain.

JACE: Yeah, the Mark of Cain would be perfect...

JONATHAN: If you still had it.

SIMON: Yeah, I don't, but Izzy and I both know someone that does.

DAMON: Cain.

ISABELLE: Do you think you can convince Cain to cooperate?

SIMON: Well, I mean, it seemed like he liked me. It's worth a shot.

JACE: Okay. Let's say we summon Lilith, and we manage to trap her, and Cain is willing to help. The only problem is...how do we get her to talk to us?

ISABELLE: Don't worry about it. With the upgrades I made to the Malachi configuration, that shouldn't be an issue.

JACE: Okay.

SIMON: I'll go talk to him right now.

ISABELLE: I'll go with you.

[LORENZO'S APARTMENT]

[Alec is about to knock on the door of Magnus' old apartment, but the doors open in a whoosh before he can knock. There is classical music playing. Lorenzo is standing with his back to Alec by the window. Alec enters and the doors close behind him.]

LORENZO: Charming, isn't it? It's one of Mozart's lesser known works, but certainly one of my favorites... You should've seen the look on Wolfgang's face when I told him what I really thought about his Mass in C Minor.

ALEC: We need to talk.

LORENZO: Hang on, this is the best part.

FINN: He was annoying you.

[Lorenzo closes his eyes and enjoys the music. Alec shuts off the sound system, and the music stops immediately. Lorenzo sighs.]

LORENZO: What can I do for you, Mr. Lightwood?

ALEC: Magnus has fallen ill as a result of the magic you gave him.

[Lorenzo starts to pour himself another drink.]

LORENZO: I did warn your boyfriend of the risks involved. He assured me he could handle it.

ALEC: Well, he can't. And I would appreciate if you would take the magic back.

LORENZO: Yes, I'm sure you would appreciate that. But he brought this upon himself. Not my fault the pompous old warlock falls by his own hubris.

ALEC: Why? Why do you hate him so much?

LORENZO: It's simple. All my life, I've had to sit by and watch while the world lavished praise on Magnus Bane. The Prodigy. The High Warlock who could do no wrong.

DAVINA: He was jealous.

ALEC: Green isn't becoming on you, Lorenzo.

LORENZO: You have no idea how hard I've had to work for everything that I have. [puts his drink down] That man was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His celebrity is not based on talent. It's nepotism.

ALEC: Lorenzo, you're right about one thing. Magnus is beloved. And when word gets out that you wouldn't help him, purely out of jealously... how do you think the other warlocks are gonna feel?

LORENZO: I guess we'll find out, won't we?

ALEC: Oh, you bastard. I swear I will-

LROENZO: You'll what? [pushes Alec away with his magic] I believe we're done here. You can show yourself out.

ALEC: You've never been in love, have you?

LORENZO: I'm over 300 years old. Of course I have. More times than I care to admit.

[Alec walks back to Lorenzo.]

ALEC: Well for me, it's only one. Magnus. He is my world, and if he dies... [pause] Look, Lorenzo... he's no threat to you. Okay? He doesn't have his powers. [tears in his eyes] Just... please. Please, help him.

The girls were about to cry at this scene.

[SEELIE COURT]

[Meliorn bows before his Queen on the throne.]

MELIORN: You have a visitor. Achatius.

SEELIE QUEEN: I see... Show him in. But first, let me slip into something a little more comfortable.

[Meliorn nods and bows again. Lanaia and Achatius enter the Seelie Court; they are greeted with spears pointed at them. The Queen has transformed from a child into a woman.]

ACHATIUS: Your Highness. Is this any way to welcome a guest?

SEELIE QUEEN: Achatius, son of the Queen of Hell. I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, but alas, we Seelies cannot lie.

ACHATIUS: I am not your enemy. Whatever quarrel you had with Lilith, that has nothing to do with me. I'm only here searching for-

SEELIE QUEEN: For the Morning Star sword. [leaving her throne] I know all about your little quest.

ACHATIUS: Then perhaps you could help me out by handing it over.

SEELIE QUEEN: I'm afraid you have more pressing concerns. You see, your mother came into my court and slaughtered dozens of my subjects. [circling around Achatius] Delivering your head to her on a silver platter will be a fitting revenge.

ACHATIUS: That demon is not my mother. And I assure you, I have no loyalty to Lilith. It's why I left her to rot in Edom after she was banished.

SEELIE QUEEN: How noble. Nevertheless, there is a debt to be paid. Blood for blood.

[Meliorn lifts his spear up, the end close to Achatius' head.]

ACHATIUS: And what if I can offer you a better deal?

KLAUS: And let me guess, you were going to offer her, Lilith's head.

ACHATIUS: You are right.

[The Seelie Queen makes eye contact with Meliorn, who lowers his spear again.]

SEELIE QUEEN: I'm listening.

ACHATIUS: Your realm will never be safe as long as the Queen of Edom draws breath. But... if you offer me the sword as payment... that silver platter of yours... will soon bear Lilith's head.

[The Seelie Queen smiles.]

TYLER: This is what she wanted.

[PRISON]

[Luke is dressed in orange, his face is a bit beat up. He sits down by the window with the phones so he can talk to his visitor, Maryse. She picks up the phone at the other side of the window.]

HAYLEY: Somebody, beat you up.

MARYSE: Lucian, your face...

LUKE: Yeah. There was a guy I put away a few years ago. I handled it.

MARYSE: For now. All this stress, this pressure. What if you can't control yourself? What if you turn?

LUKE: It won't happen. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to do this. [nodding at the bag of books on Maryse's side] What's all the stuff? You knock over a library?

MARYSE: Uh, I brought you some reading material. Turns out Elliot was a closet mystery buff. There's piles of these hidden all over the shop.

LUKE: Wait. You went back?

MARYSE: You, my friend, are looking at the new owner of Ouroboros Books and Antiques.

CAROLINE: That was a great idea.

LUKE: Oh, well! Maryse Lightwood, entrepreneur.

MARYSE: I never would've gotten the idea if you hadn't dragged me down there, so... thank you. [Luke smiles, then looks down.] What is it?

LUKE: I don't want you to visit me anymore.

MARYSE: What?

LUKE: You said you wanted a fresh start, and now you've got it. You've got your whole life in front of you. Me? I've got this.

MARYSE: That doesn't mean you have to go it alone.

LUKE: It's important for me to see you move on... to see you be happy.

MARYSE: I am happy. Just... consider me your Book of the Month Club. I am not gonna turn my back on you, Lucian. Not now. Not ever.

They smiled at this scene.

ISABELLE: How romantic, Mama.

Maryse blushed.

[Simon and Izzy are looking for Cain in the old underground tunnels. Simon is shining his flashlight deeper into the tunnels.]

SIMON: Cain should be right around here. Hold on.

ISABELLE: What is it?

SIMON: All clear. Not a rat in sight.

[Izzy shines her flashlight in Simon's face.]

ISABELLE: My hero.

[They continue walking.]

SIMON: I heard about Raphael... You okay?

ISABELLE: If I hadn't let myself fall for him... I think things would've ended differently.

SIMON: Maybe, but then... maybe you wouldn't have had that time together.

ISABELLE: You know, after seeing what Jonathan went through when he thought Theo was dead... Clary and Jace, watching Alec fall apart over Magnus... I'm not sure I want love in my life. Not if it hurts like that.

KEELIN: You were scared to fall in love.

SIMON: Hmm...

ISABELLE: [stops and turns to Simon] That was insensitive. You and Maia just broke up.

SIMON: It's fine. Maia is where she should be: with Jordan, at the Praetor. Besides, I don't know if this whole love thing is really for me. I mean, no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to make it work. You know what? Let's make a pact. [holding up his pinky] Single for life.

CAROLINE: You were doing pinky swear.

ISABELLE: [looking at Simon's pinky] What is that?

SIMON: It's a pinky swear. You've never done one of these before?

ISABELLE: No! But it looks, uh... serious.

They chuckled at this.

SIMON: It's very serious. I mean, the consequences of a broken pinky swear could be dire. This is the most sacred vow anyone can make.

They laughed at this.

ISABELLE: I love sacred vows. Let's do it.

[Izzy shakes Simon's pinky in her fist. Simon chuckles and moves her hand so they're locking pinkies.]

CLARY: You two broke such a sacred vow.

ISABELLE: We should, uh... keep moving.

SIMON: Yeah. Okay.

[ACHATIUS' APARTMENT]

[Achatius has created a pentagon of fire in his apartment. Lanaia approaches him.]

LANAIA: Is it even possible to kill a demon as powerful as Lilith?

ACHATIUS: In Edom it is. Every demon has their weakness.

LANAIA: What's hers?

ELIJAH: You.

Achatius nodded.

ACHATIUS: Me.

[THE INSTITUTE, TRAINING ROOM]

[Jace, Theo, Jonathan, Rose and Clary are getting ready to summon Lilith. They gearing up.]

JACE: Are you sure that's where you want to summon her?

JONATHAN: An abandoned power plant?

CLARY: It has the strongest ley line convergence outside the city.

ROSE: And we need to do this away from a populated area.

THEO: They both are right.

[ACHATIUS' APARTMENT]

[Achatius steps into the fire pentagon. He screams as the flames touch his body. Cut to Rose at the Institute, who falls on the ground because of the pain she feels via Achatius. Cut to Achatius, standing in the fire. The flames reflect in his eyes. Then he submerges into the fire. Cut back to Rose on the floor. Theo kneels by her.]

KEELIN: You were burning up to.

THEO: Hey. Hey. Achatius?

[Rose confirms Theo's question with her eyes.]

[SEWERS]

[Simon and Izzy have gone to Cain's hideout where they speak with him.]

CAIN: Absolutely not.

ISABELLE: Please! If things go sideways, your Mark is the only thing that can banish Lilith back to Edom.

CAIN: Madness. Why can't you just do it yourself? [Simon doesn't respond.] You... you managed to remove the Mark.

SIMON: It wasn't easy. The only reason I succeeded was because Isabelle was there to help me. I could help you get rid of yours too, coach you through the whole ordeal... if you're willing to come with us.

CAIN: I won't stand before Lilith ever again.

TYELR: He is afraid of her.

ISABELLE: Why do you fear her? You're invincible!

CAIN: No man is invincible. She seduced me once. Made me kill my own brother.

SIMON: Look, Cain, I get it. I was in a similar situation... with a vampire named Heidi. She manipulated me... and I was so hungry that I fed on my sister. And my mother watched the whole thing.

CAIN: The guilt... never fades. It's unbearable.

SIMON: It is. But... sometimes, to overcome your demons, you have to face them head on. If you want to make up for your sins of the past, sitting in a sewer isn't gonna do it. Cain... this is your chance.

CAROLINE: After this motivating speech, there is no doubt that he will help you.

[THE INSTITUTE, INFIRMARY]

[Magnus is slowly blinking with his eyes. He's still laying in the hospital bed. Alec is sitting by his bedside.]

ALEC: Magnus, can you hear me? There you are. [tilting Magnus' head so he faces Alec] Hey.

MAGNUS: [stroking Alec's cheek] Oh. There you are...

ALEC: Yeah.

MAGNUS: What happened?

ALEC: Oh. Well, you got very sick, but everything's gonna be okay. [Magnus tries to sit up; Alec helps adjust the pillow so he can.] Just hold on. Here. Let me get that for you.

MAGNUS: Ah. A man could get used to this type of treatment. Oh, but definitely not this wardrobe.

ALEC: Right. Let me get you a change of clothes.

MAGNUS: Oh, no need.

[Magnus snaps his fingers.]

ALEC: No!

[Alec holds Magnus' wrist tightly.]

MAGNUS: Alexander, what... [then he notices Lorenzo standing by the door.] What's he doing here?

ALEC: Using Lorenzo's magic is what got you sick. Catarina and Theo said that if you use the magic again, even a little bit, it could go horribly wrong. The only way for you to get better... is for Lorenzo to take the magic away.

MAGNUS: Oh... No, Catarina and Theo are just being overly cautious. Trust me, I feel fine.

[Magnus tries to get out of bed, but Alec holds him back.]

ALEC: No. [to Lorenzo] Can we just get a minute, please?

MAGNUS: No! I'm not getting rid of my magic.

KOL: You loved your magic, so much.

[Magnus is getting dressed the mundane way. Alec is standing a few feet behind him.]

ALEC: Magnus, you stopped breathing. Your heart stopped. I thought you were gone.

MAGNUS: I'm so sorry for scaring you. I was clearly adjusting to Lorenzo's magic, and I must have overextended myself. I promise I'll be more careful from now on.

ALEC: It doesn't matter how careful you are. As long as you have Lorenzo's magic, you'll be living with an ax over your head.

MAGNUS: Oh, could you stop being so morbid?

ALEC: Look, I know how important magic is to you, but is it really worth dying for? [Magnus doesn't respond.] Magnus, answer me.

MAGNUS: Maybe.

Caroline looked at the screen in disbelief.

ELENA: What?

ALEC: How can you even say that?

MAGNUS: I am nothing without my magic. You fell in love with Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn. [turning around and approaching Alec] Can you honestly say that you don't feel differently about me? Look at me! Can you honestly say you like this?!

ALEC: Yes! Your powers were incredible. But that's not why I fell in love with you. I fell in love with you because you're wise, and you're generous, and you're brave, and you're incredible! I just... When you walk into a room, there's a spark in you, magic or not, that lights up everything and everyone around you! And... and... [Magnus starts to turn away but Alec pulls him back.] Hey! I won't lose you! I can't.

They were feeling sad for both of them.

[EDOM]

[Achatius sees a enormous castle in the distance across the lava river. He enters the castle and sees his mother, Lilith, on the throne. She rises as she sees her son enter.]

LILITH: It's you.

ACHATIUS: Hello, Mother.

[Lilith descends the throne and approaches Achatius.]

LILITH: You came back for me, my sweet boy.

ACHATIUS: Of course I did. When I rose and realized you were gone... I was devastated.

LILITH: And yet, you took your time... leaving me here to suffer.

ACHATIUS: Suffer? How?

LILITH: When that wretched Daylighter blasted me back to this realm, I was weak... my powers diminished. Asmodeus... he took full advantage. That cat-eyed cretin, he took my crown, and he bound me to this room with magic that he took from his son.

REBEKAH: Your father locked her up.

ACHATIUS: Mother, I had no idea. If I had... I would've come back right away.

LILITH: What was keeping you so busy?

ACHATIUS: Rose. She ran away. I had to find her.

LILITH: Rose... I'm afraid that rune was a necessary evil.

ACHATIUS: No... No, it's not evil. It's beautiful.

LILITH: She called you a monster, Achatius. She wanted you to stay dead.

MATT: She was lying.

ACHATIUS: She was.

ACHATIUS: It's different now. And I know when I am being lied, mother.

LILITH: Rose will never love you like I do. Believe me, if you didn't need her life force in order to live, I would have taken her heart and ripped it out of her chest and [making the gesture with her hand] crushed it in my hand!

Rose scoffed at this.

ACHATIUS: [yelling] Shut your mouth!

LILITH: How dare you speak to your mother like that?!

ACHATIUS: Mother, I'm sorry. Please, forgive me.

[ABANDONED POWER PLANT]

[Jace, Jonathan and Izzy prepare the Malachi Configuration; an invisible prison is set up for Lilith. Rose is talking with Cain. Clary and Theo are watching them. Simon is there as well.]

ROSE: Thank you so much for coming. I know how hard this must be for you.

CAIN: I have spent centuries cowering in the dark... it was finally time to come into the light.

THEO: [to Simon] Hey... Good job getting him here.

SIMON: No problem.

JACE: Now, go away.

SIMON: What?

JACE: Look, I don't have time to babysit you. Without your... your Mark, you're defenseless.

SIMON: Defenseless?! Do these look defenseless to you?

[Simon hisses, and shows off his vampire teeth.]

JACE: Are you kidding?

They chuckled at this.

SIMON: Look, we're a package deal, me and Clary! I'm not going anywhere.

CLARY: All right. I'm going to open a summoning portal inside the Malachi Configuration.

ROSE: Once Lilith surfaces, she'll be trapped inside.

ISABELLE: [to Cain] If she breaks free, use your vamp speed and act as our shield.

CAIN: I will do my best.

JACE: Everyone keep their eyes open. Don't take any chances.

[Jace pulls his blade out. Clary grabs her stele.]

JONATHAN: Whenever you're ready.

[Clary sees a vision of a rune in front of her.]

CLARY: I think I have it. I just need to channel you.

[Rose nods and holds her hand. Clary starts drawing the rune. Inside the Malachi Configuration, a pentagram appears.]

BONNIE: The pentagram was there.

[EDOM]

[Inside Lilith's castle, there is still tension between Achatius and Lilith.]

ACHATIUS: Mother, let me help you. I'll set you free. We can defeat Asmodeus together.

LILITH: Why do I not trust a word you say?

ACHATIUS: I'm telling you the truth. I realize I never should have left Edom in the first place. You're the only true family that I have. Mother, I love you.

LILITH: I have waited so long to hear you say those words...

[Lilith leans in and kisses Achatius on the lips. Achatius pulls out a dagger at that moment. Lilith does not see it yet.]

ACHATIUS: Mother... bye.

KOL: She will get summoned before you kill her.

[Lilith gasps as Achatius pulls out the dagger and stabs in her direction. But Lilith is teleported away suddenly; Achatius is confused and angry.]

[ABANDONED POWER PLANT]

[Lilith appears with blue flames in the middle of the pentagram.]

ROSE: Welcome back.

KOL: And here she came.

[THE INSTITUTE, INFIRMARY]

[Magnus is sitting on the bed, looking sad. Alec and Lorenzo are there.]

ALEC: Are you ready?

LORENZO: You understand once I take back my magic, that's it. I cannot give you another transfusion.

MAGNUS: [rising] Just do it.

[Lorenzo uses his magic on Magnus to take back his magic. When it's done, Magnus almost falls over but Alec catches him.]

ALEC: Lorenzo, thank you.

LORENZO: Yes, well... I hope you know this changes nothing. I'll be keeping the apartment.

MAGNUS: Oh, fine. I have everything I need right here.

[Lorenzo leaves and Alec hugs a sad Magnus.]

[ABANDONED POWER PLANT]

LILITH: So many familiar faces... [looking at Cain] Son of Adam... [looking at Jace] my precious Owl. [looking at Jonathan] The son who betrayed me... How lovely to see you both. [looking at Rose] And you... the girl who stole my boy's heart.

ROSE: You put that rune on me and Achatius. Now, you're gonna tell me how to remove it.

LILITH: Why would I do that? Achatius... that ungrateful bastard, tried to kill me. As far as I'm concerned, you two deserve each other.

ROSE: Well, then I will be more than happy to end what he started, if I didn't need you right now.

They were impressed by Rose.

JACE: Enough! If you're not gonna cooperate willingly, we're gonna have to make you.

LILITH: [chuckles] Hmm...

[Jace nods to Izzy. Izzy kneels by one of the Malachi swords and uses its energy to blast electricity at Lilith. Lilith runs to that corner, but Izzy does her trick again. Lilith gasps in pain.]

CLARY: Ready to talk now?

HAYLEY: She should be.

[Lilith does not talk yet, so Izzy blasts some more electricity.]

LILITH: [grunting] There's only one way to break the bond between you two. You've heard of Michael and Lucifer? Huh? Lucifer possessed the Morning Star blade, but Michael... had a sword of his own called Glorious. It was imbued with heavenly fire, which gave it the power to purge demonic energy.

ELIJAH: Heavenly fire?

THEO: Heavenly fire?

LILITH: By stabbing Lucifer with Glorious, Michael was able to nullify the rune's power, and break the connection.

CLARY: Where is Glorious now?

ROSE: Nowhere.

ELENA: What does that mean?

ROSE: It was destroyed.

LILITH: Glorious was destroyed the moment Michael pierced Lucifer. Its blade was shattered into a thousand pieces and lost to time. There is no hope for you, Rosaline Morgenstern.

JONATHAN: No! You put that rune on her, you're gonna take it off!

[Jonathan goes to the corner of the Configuration and does Izzy's trick.]

LILITH: [screaming] I told you, there's nothing I can do!

[Jonathan continues to blast Lilith with electricity. She screams.]

ROSE: Jonathan, stop! Stop! She's telling the bloody truth.

[Jonathan lets go of the sword and the electricity stops.]

ISABELLE: Watch out!

[Achatius is suddenly there and makes a jump for Theo. They clash swords.]

KOL: You attacked them, out of nowhere.

ROSE: Achatius.

ACHATIUS: Hello, love.

JACE: You stay away from her!

[Izzy attacks Achatius from behind but Achatius throws her on the ground with his magic. Rose is about to get involved in the fight between Theo and Achatius but Jonathan and Jace hold her back.]

JONATHAN: Rose, wait! Remember what happens when you get close to him.

ROSE: Jon, I can't just watch this!

JACE: You don't have a choice.

[Theo and Achatius fight, Achatius attacks aggressively. A blast of energy makes Theo fly through the air. Achatius stands over him.]

ACHATIUS: As happy as I am to see Rose, I'm here for Lilith.

JACE: I don't care why you're here. You're not getting away.

ACHATIUS: And how do you plan on stopping me?

[Achatius raises his fist, that in the next moment is tied up in Izzy's whip. But is surprised when Achatius releases electricity on the ground and Izzy tumbles on the ground. Rose feels the burn on her hand due to electricity.]

KLAUS: Again with the electricity.

ACHATIUS: You see I have thunder whereas you have your pesky blades. How are you gonna defeat me, huh?

[Izzy again attacks him with her whip. Achatius pulls on the whip, and Izzy falls to the ground. Theo is back on his feet again. He and Achatius continue to fight with their swords. Izzy charges for Achatius but he makes her trip. Just as Achatius is about to hit Izzy with his blade, Theo clashes his sword with Achatius'. Jace gets up and gets a few punches in before Achatius throws him against a metal column. Theo has his sword close to Achatius' throat. Achatius smiles.]

ACHATIUS: Oh, are you gonna kill me, brother. Just like you did the last time You hurt me, you hurt Rose.

FINN: He wanted to distract you.

[Just for a second, Theo looks at Rose, but that's all Achatius needs. Achatius pushes his sword through Theo's throat.]

They gasped at the scene.

JONATHAN: No!

ROSE: Theo!

[Achatius pulls the sword out with a smile. Blood spilling out everywhere. Theo falls to the ground. Simon, Jonathan, Rose and Clary watch as Achatius goes to Izzy, who's still weak on the ground.]

SIMON: Izzy!

[Achatius pulls Izzy's head up with her hair, ready to slice her throat. Simon runs to them with his vamp speed and bites Achatius in the neck, making him release Izzy. Rose whimpers as she feels the pain in her neck as well. Lilith looks at Cain, who's still standing next to her on the other side of the Malachi Configuration.]

LILITH: Son of Adam... Release me. Please.

CAIN: Never.

FREYA: She was going to manipulate Cain into helping her.

[Simon stops drinking and bites off a piece of flesh of Achatius'. Simon retches and spits out some of the blood.]

LILITH: [to Cain] Lift that sword... and come to Edom with me. I need your Mark to protect me from Achatius. Do me this one favor... I'll bring your brother Abel back to life.

BONNIE: She was just lying.

[Simon's mouth is black and golden from Achatius' blood. He sees Lilith trying to manipulate Cain.]

SIMON: Cain, don't listen to her! She's just trying to manipulate you like before!

LILITH: You have my word. I promise.

[Cain sees all the suffering Shadowhunters on the ground. He turns to Lilith, then looks back at Simon.]

CAIN: Forgive me.

[Cain reaches for one of the swords.]

HAYLEY: No.

SIMON: Stop!

[Cain pulls out the sword. Lilith's prison disappears. Simon runs towards Cain, but the Mark on Cain's head activates, blasting Simon away. Rose sees Theo, Jace, Izzy and Simon all on the ground. Achatius wobbles and gets to his knees too, still suffering from Simon's vampire bite.]

ACHATIUS: Rose! Help me!

[Rose approaches Achatius.]

JACE: Rose! No! [Rose starts drawing a rune in the air] Stop!

[Rose pushes the rune towards Jonathan, and the rune takes Achatius somewhere else. Jace and Theo activate their iratze, Rose and Jonathan runs towards Theo.]

HOPE: Where did you portal him?

ROSE: Theo!

JONATHAN: Are you okay?

JACE: Where did you send him?

ROSE: Where he belongs.

HOPE: The cell.

[Cut to the Institute cells. Achatius appears out of thin air. He realizes where he is and pounces his fists on the glass, screaming.]

ACHATIUS: No. No. No. No! No! No!

[PRISON]

[Luke is led to the visitor's area.]

LUKE: It's way past visiting hours. What's going on here?

[Luke sits down by the phones. A man on the other side takes the phone and waits for Luke to take his phone too. The man sits down.]

LUKE: Who are you?

SCOTT: My name is Scott. You look tired. Probably haven't had a good night's sleep since you got here.

LUKE: I sleep fine.

SCOTT: Because your conscience is clear. We've had our eyes on you for quite some time, Graymark. Always admired you.

They were shocked.

STEFAN: He knows your real name.

LUKE: My last name is Garroway.

SCOTT: You've dedicated your entire life to helping others, which is highly admirable. But this latest move, getting thrown in prison to protect the Shadow World, that is true dedication. Truth is, a man like you is wasted in a place like this. Get dressed. It's time to go.

[A guard puts down a pile of clothes next to Luke.]

LUKE: [to Scott] Look, I don't know who you're working for, but in case they didn't tell you, there's a murder charge.

SCOTT: What murder charge? Your record has been expunged. All the open cases, they're now closed.

CAROLINE: What did he do?

LUKE: How the hell did...

[Luke notices a bracelet that the man is wearing.]

SCOTT: You answer to the Praetor Lupus now.

DAMON: The werewolf supernatural help center.

[The man hangs up and leaves. Luke hangs up to and looks at the pile of clothes.]

[THE INSTITUTE, CELLS]

[Achatius is in full restraints. Their are chains on his wrists that lead up to the ceiling and walls of the cell. He even has a mask over his face covering his mouth and nose. Jace, Jonathan, Theo, Rose and Clary are standing on the outside of the cell.]

JACE: Those restraints will stop him from hurting himself.

JONATHAN: As long as he's here, you'll be safe.

ROSE: Theo... [Achatius watches as Rose and Theo step away for a bit; Achatius pulls on his chains.] When we were out there, there was a moment where I felt compelled to help Achatius. And then, I heard your voice. It snapped me out of it. The same thing happened with Aline, and with the fire, and today in the infirmary... Every time I get close to the edge... the people I love pull me back.

CLARY: What are you saying?

ROSE: I didn't think I was strong enough to fight the rune's influence. But... maybe, with all of your help, I can be.

JACE: Still... I hate the idea of you being connected to that monster forever. You shouldn't have to endure that.

[Izzy enters the basement.]

ISABELLE: Hopefully, she won't have to. Do you remember when Lilith mentioned "heavenly fire"?

JONATHAN: Yeah, it's what gave Michael's sword the power to purge demon energy.

ROSE: What about it?

ISABELLE: The sentry who was killed, he said the words "heavenly fire" in Latin before he died. Alec and I asked mom about it and apparently, it's the name of an off-the-books Clave program.

THEO: You think someone at the Clave knows about Glorious?

STEFAN: It is a possibility.

ISABELLE: It's possible.

[OUROBOROS]

[Alec is standing outside of the shop. He sees his mother inside. He takes a deep breath before he enters.]

ALEC: Hi.

MARYSE: Alec. What a nice surprise!

[They hug.]

ALEC: I thought I'd actually stop by and see the place. I'm proud of you.

MARYSE: Thanks! It's really coming together, isn't it?

ALEC: There's actually something I wanted to talk to you about.

MARYSE: What is it?

[They sit down.]

ALEC: Um... Magnus had a little health scare. He's okay. Everything's fine. But, when it happened, it made me realize how much he means to me. And that I... can't live without him.

MARYSE: That's what love is. I'm so happy you two found each other.

ALEC: Me, too. And I need the family ring. I'm gonna ask Magnus to marry me.

CAROLINE: What? [She squealed] You were gonna propose him!

[Maryse smiles, so does Alec. They rise and hug.]
