𝕀ℕ the midst of the torrential downpour, Vign hastened his steps to reunite with Miss Imogen, raindrops cascading around him like liquid diamonds. Amidst the chaotic ballet of water droplets, he inadvertently collided with a figure. "I am sorry, Miss," Vign offered a sincere apology as he extended a helping hand to the woman he had inadvertently bumped into. "It is all right, no harm," she reassured, her gaze lifting to meet his. A gasp of disbelief escaped her lips, "Vign?" It was Melody. With a warm smile, he seized her hand, guiding her swiftly into the concealed sanctuary of an alleyway. Seeking refuge from both the relentless rain and the prying eyes of onlookers, he stole a moment with Melody.

Before any words could be spoken, Melody's lips found his in a sudden, passionate kiss. Startled but quickly yielding to the magnetic pull, Vign reciprocated, a silent agreement forged in the intensity of that stolen embrace. Her attempted apology dissolved into the embrace of their intertwined lips. As the rain continued its symphony on the cobblestone streets, Vign deepened the kiss, bridging any lingering distance between them. Melody's eyes surrendered to the sensory tide, fluttering closed as she wound her arms around his neck, lost in the convergence of their beings.

Their kiss was an eloquent expression of pent-up emotions-passion, hunger, and the profound yearning that had festered in their separation. In that stolen moment, their lips moved in perfect harmony, like long-lost puzzle pieces finally reunited. The rain bore witness to the reunion, each droplet a silent applause for the union of two souls who had longed for the taste of togetherness.

They pulled away, leaving each other breathless, each gasping for air. Melody, overcome with emotion, drew Vign into a tight embrace, tears welling in her eyes. "I thought I'd never see you again," she confessed, her voice laden with relief and disbelief. Vign smiled, his heart racing, and pulled her even closer. "It's okay, I am here now. I'm not going anywhere," he whispered into Melody's ear, making a solemn vow. As Vign wiped away her tears, Melody's gratitude overflowed. "Philo said you've died. I don't understand," she admitted, confusion etched across her face. Vign frowned and gently pulled her to meet his gaze. "Philo lied, my love. Mima Roosan came to me with blood on her hands, saying both of you died in her arms."

Melody, wide-eyed, struggled to process the information. "What? Why?" she questioned, her voice filled with a mixture of shock and disbelief. Vign, feeling anger toward Philo, replied, "Because Philo told her to do so." Melody looked down, the weight of betrayal and hurt evident in her tone. "He lied to me... He lied to me for seven years, saying you've died." Her voice broke, and Vign, sensing her pain, pulled her into a tight embrace, placing soft kisses on her neck to offer solace. "I know, and I am sorry you had to go through that, darling. But know that I won't let anything come between us ever again. Not even the Gods will stop me."

Afraid to let go, Melody pleaded, "Don't let me fall." Vign, recalling their vows from years ago, smiled warmly. Holding her close, he pulled her to face him, planting a loving kiss on her forehead before gazing into her brown eyes. "Never," he assured her, determination and love evident in his words.

After a few moments, Melody pulled away, wiping her tears and letting out a small laugh. "I'm sorry, I'm such a mess," she said, rubbing her eyes. Vign smiled warmly at the woman in front of him, gently grabbing her wrist to stop her. "I don't think so. I think you are more beautiful," he said, tucking her hair behind her ear and planting a kiss on her cheek before smiling at her.

Blushing at his compliment, Melody glanced at his outfit and couldn't help but giggle. "What are you wearing?" she asked. Vign chuckled, looking down at his attire. "A valet uniform. Not the most comfortable attire for wings." he explained. Melody nodded understandingly, then added, "Your beautiful wings." As she looked at him in the outfit, she couldn't help but blush. Even in a valet uniform, he still looked handsome. Since the last time she saw him, he had grown a little taller and appeared stronger. Vign noticed her gaze and asked, "What's with the look?" Melody, caught off guard, nervously shook her head and blushed, admitting, "N-nothing."

Vign smirked mischievously, noticing her embarrassment. "Nothing, huh?" he teased, walking forward. Melody took steps back until her back was against a surface. Before she could attempt an escape, Vign placed his hands next to her head, trapping her. "It didn't look like nothing. Why don't you tell me what you were thinking, darling?" he asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Melody opened her mouth, but no words came out.

"Well, love," he teased, leaning his face close to hers. His lips ghostly touched hers, causing Melody's heart to quicken. He chuckled, giving her a peck on the lips. "I missed seeing you like this, so flustered," he admitted, moving a bit back but remaining close to her.

Melody blushed, her eyes filled with so much love as she smiled at Vign and gently placed her hand on his cheek. Vign leaned into the warmth, reciprocating by placing his hand on hers. "I love you," Melody confessed to Vign, who smiled affectionately and kissed her palm.

"I love you too, my darling," Vign replied, their faces drawing close as they shared a sweet kiss, sealing the depth of their love for each other. As they pulled away, Melody couldn't help but ask, "Will I see you again?" Vign smiled reassuringly, "Yes, love. I promise." Melody's smile widened, and she hugged him tightly, breathing in his scent that made her heart flutter. In that moment, wrapped in each other's arms, they embraced the promise of a reunion, cherishing the love that bound them together.

After the two lovers bid their farewells, Melody couldn't help but wear a smile on her face, and her heart sang in joy. However, that joy was short-lived as the memory of Philo's lie resurfaced, casting a shadow on her emotions. Anger fuelled her steps as she made her way to the building where she was to meet Philo and Sylvanus, the doctor. Determination etched in her every stride; Melody intended to confront Philo about the hurt he had caused.

Upon entering the building, she found Sylvanus busy with Aisling's lifeless body. Melody greeted the man and enveloped him in a hug before assisting with the solemn task. As they carefully sewed up the remains, Philo entered the room. Melody refused to look at him, maintaining her focus on the grim task at hand. "Sewed her up, put everything back more or less where it belongs," Sylvanus said. Intrigued, he questioned Sylvanus, "More or less? What kind of doctor were you back in Puyan?" Sylvanus, meeting their gazes with a sly smile, replied, "The only doctor you could find to do an autopsy on a Critch." A shared moment of amusement passed between them before Sylvanus returned to his examination. "I'd guess she's about 90 from her wing veining. There's some distension in her lady bits, so she at least had two pregnancies, and there's some atrophy in her coracoids."

Philo, puzzled, turned to Melody for an explanation. Without taking her eyes off the lifeless form before her, she calmly clarified, "Wing muscle. Normal for her age." Philo sensed an underlying tension but redirected his attention to Sylvanus, inquiring, "Anything else?" Sylvanus dropped a revelation that left Philo bewildered, "No liver." Perplexed, Philo echoed, "No liver?"

"Must have been left behind in the mess," Sylvanus observed, glancing at Philo. "Or the killer made off with it," Philo replied thoughtfully as Sylvanus went to wash his hands at the sink in the room. "Why would he do that?" Sylvanus questioned, the sound of running water echoing in the room. Philo's gaze remained fixed on the lifeless body. "Good question," he admitted. Philo inquired further, "Was it a blade or a talon that killed her?" Sylvanus examined the scars and stitches on the woman's form. "Hard to say," he responded, drying his hands with a towel. "Either way, her sternum was cut straight through. That takes some strength." Philo nodded, absorbing the grim details. "Could a man have done it?" he asked. Sylvanus, with a solemn nod, replied, "With enough hate in him, aye."

With that, Sylvanus left the siblings alone in the room, leaving behind the weight of his words. "Enough hate," Philo muttered, a somber acknowledgment of the darkness that surrounded the tragic scene.

"Philo," Melody started, her eyes fixed on him, "we need to talk."

Philo glanced up, feigning innocence, but Melody could see the guilt lurking in his eyes. "What's on your mind, Melody?" She took a deep breath, steadying herself before plunging into the heart of the matter. "I just found out about Vign. About his supposed death. And I found out it was all a lie. You lied."

Philo's expression wavered for a moment before he attempted to mask it with a nonchalant demeanour. "I have no idea what you're talking about." Melody's patience was wearing thin. "Cut the act, Philo. I know everything. Vign's alive, and you've been keeping it from me for seven years." Philo sighed; the weight of his deception apparent in his posture. "Melody, it wasn't as simple as you think. I did it to protect you."

"Protect me?" Melody's voice rose incredulously. "You stole seven years of my life, made me believe that the man I love was dead. How is that protection?" Philo shifted uncomfortably. "I thought you needed to move on, to live your life without the burden of grief."

Melody's eyes burned with a mixture of betrayal and anger. "You don't get to decide that for me, Philo. You took away my right to know, my right to mourn, and worst of all, you took away the chance for Vign and me to be together." Philo looked down, unable to meet her gaze. "I thought it was for the best. I thought you'd be happier this way."

Melody's voice quivered with emotion. "Happier? You destroyed my happiness, and you think that's better?" Philo finally met her gaze, remorse etched across his features. "I never meant to hurt you, Melody. I thought I was doing what was best for everyone." Melody shook her head, tears threatening to spill. "You don't get to decide what's best for me. I deserved the truth, Philo. We all did." As the weight of the betrayal settled between them, Melody felt a profound sense of loss and anger. The trust she had placed in Philo had crumbled, leaving behind a painful reality she wasn't sure she could forgive. Melody sighed, a heavy breath that seemed to carry the weight of unspoken emotions, and closed the blinds, allowing darkness to flood the room. "Say 'hi' for me to Darius," she said quietly, her words hanging in the dimly lit space. With that, Melody exited the room, leaving Philo enveloped in the solitude of the encroaching darkness.
