"Hey Sophie..." Keefe said, hesitant.

Sophie couldn't believe it. He was here. Keefe Sencen was here. She knew something would go wrong. But this was the worst case scenario.

Why can't he just leave me alone?

Sophie couldn't get herself out of a lot of things. This was one of them.

"What are you doing here?" Sophie spat, not caring to hide her annoyance.

"Look Sophie, I didn't mean what I said before!  I was a jerk, and I'm sorry." Keefe said, stepping closer to her.

As he took a step closer, she took a step back. She couldn't give in. Not after what he said. She didn't want to get hurt again.

"You really think that's it? You think you can just waltz into my school, act all charming so I can forgive you, then hurt me again," Sophie was on the verge of tears. "Keefe you've already lied, and hurt me before, how can I trust that you won't do it again?" she said, quieter.

This time when Keefe stepped forward, she didn't back up. "Because, I know what I did was idiotic. And I know that you might never fully forgive me, but I want another chance. Please."

Sophie looked away from him. "Leave me alone."

"You won't even look at me. That's how much you hate me." Keefe sighed, avoiding her eyes.

"Keefe I don't hate—" she started.

"You've given me too many reasons that would make you though." he murmured.

"But I don't, Keefe." Sophie said, softly.

She knew she was giving in. She was falling hard. Falling hard for the broken boy who hurt her.

But she also hurt him. Opened more wounds of heartbreak. Broke an already broken boy.

She also knew that if she was going to fall, it was going to be Keefe who would catch her.

Will I regret this?

Keefe sighed again, and for the first time that night, Sophie looked at him.

He was wearing a white button-up, and his hair was disheveled as usual. But she also noticed something else. Something strapped around his back.

A guitar.

In attempt to change the subject, Sophie spoke up. "So, I see you've been experimenting with some new hobbies..." she motioned to the guitar.

Keefe's cheeks tinted red. "Yeah, there's a lot you don't know about me. Playing instruments is one of them." he gave her a small grin.

Sophie tried to return the gesture, but she couldn't. There was an unspoken problem between the both of them, and she knew the more they avoided it, the worse it was going to get.

"I'll give you a second chance." she blurted.

Keefe looked at her in disbelief, not bothering to try and cover it up. He didn't expect this from her, especially when she was this stubborn.

"Really?"

Will I regret this?

"Yeah..."

The smallest grin appeared on Keefe's face. This time, Sophie grinned back.

To her surprise, Keefe took her hand, and started to lead her outside. She yelped. "Keefe what the—"

"It's a surprise, Sophie. Just trust me." he said, his grip on her hand tightening slightly.

"Keefe I swear—" she started.

"We're here."

Sophie couldn't believe that they were still on school grounds. They ended up on the grass, near the courtyard. Far from the gym, and the party.

She wondered if Biana and Marella were apart of this.

"What's going on?" Sophie asked, letting go of Keefe's grip.

"Well, I- uh wrote you a song..." Keefe hesitated.

"For me?"

Sophie thought a lot of things would happen on homecoming. This was not on her list.

Keefe sat, cross legged on the grass, waiting for Sophie to follow. She sat across from him, smoothing out her dress as she did.

Pulling his guitar around from his back, Keefe exhaled a shaky breath, then continued on to adjust his guitar, evidently nervous.

"I can't believe he wrote me a song." Sophie murmured to herself, playing with the grass beneath her.

The strum of his guitar brought her back to reality, causing her to look up.

"Here goes..." she heard him whisper.

"Little do you know, I know your hurting while your sound asleep. Little do you know all my mistakes are slowly haunting me. Little do you know, I'm trying to make it better piece, by piece..."

Sophie's eyes stung. She really was torn now.

Will I regret this?

Torn between two sides of him. The one that could hurt her, and the one who's singing to her now.

Stop overthinking this Sophie.

She inhaled a deep breath, and chose to enjoy the moment. Because that's what life was about, right? Enjoy it while it lasts, because it might be gone tomorrow.

So she let her tears fall, and her smile show.

And the smile, the genuine smile he returned was worth it.

☀︎︎☀︎︎☀︎︎

She liked it.

She smiled, and she liked it.

Keefe had just finished the last line of his song, strumming his guitar's cords one last time.

There was a moment of silence, until Sophie spoke up, her voice wavering.

"You wrote that for me...?" she asked him, still in disbelief.

"Every line."

Her voice was lowered to a whisper. "You cared that much?"

Keefe bit his lip. He really hurt her.

"Who wouldn't," he took her hand, "I really do care, Sophie."

Sophie looked at him, hesitant. "Thank you."

When he gave her a look of slight confusion, she continued. "For caring. Not many people do." she looked away, tucking a loose strand of her honey blonde hair behind her ear.

Keefe tightened his grip on Sophie's hand slightly, and grinned. "Anytime, Foster."

Sophie's lips twitched, almost trying to hold back her own grin. Instead she raised an eyebrow. "Since when did Keefe call me by my last name?"

"Since the day we met, Foster." he smirked.

This time, Sophie gave him a genuine smile.

Her expression changed abruptly into a faint frown. "So, I guess this is the part when we go our separate ways..." she let go of his grip.

"Homecoming ends in a couple of hours, we still have time." Keefe said, checking his watch.

"Marella and Biana must be worried though." she said, standing up.

"Trust me, they know where you are."

Sophie looked at him skeptical, before cautiously sitting back down. "What do we do then?"

Keefe pointed up to the sky, smirking. "We could enjoy the view. I heard Manhattan has the best."

Sophie laughed. "We don't actually, but sure."

They both lay there, enjoying each other's company. Watching the stars, and anything else as they pass by.

"Thank you, again." Sophie said, after a while.

"For?"

"For giving me the best homecoming, I never thought I would ever have." she said, giving him a warm smile.

"And one that you deserve." he added.

She playfully nudged his shoulder, and he smirked. And what happened next, Keefe didn't expect.

But he knew that it was the best kiss he'd ever shared.
