CHAPTER ELEVEN
Earlier today, Jimin had an attempt to take her own life by jumping out of the window and with the help of everybody, they were able to pull her away from the window.
A little later, On-jo takes Jimin inside the recording room to have a conversation together with Suhyeon. She thought, bringing Suhyeon will help. What On-jo thought was wrong.
Suhyeon entered the room with Hyunjae’s handkerchief in her hand, putting it on her nose from time to time.
Jimin begins to offend them about not knowing how it feels to have no one, to be alone. They both completely understand Jimin lashing out at them.
However, Jimin started striking Suhyeon personally. From Suhyeon being elected as the class vice president to her allegedly pretending to be clueless about Hyunjae’s feelings towards her.
The thing is, Suhyeon could care less about all her remarks. She went inside the room with On-jo to help her with Jimin. To have a serious and decent talk. She wasn’t expecting to be verbally condemned.
Jimin also cited that Suhyeon had this innocent and shy person façade and she is extremely annoyed with it. Still, Suhyeon just listened to her, standing behind On-jo, observing Jimin. Suhyeon knows what she said is far from the truth.
That is why Suhyeon apologized to On-jo and walked out of the room.
All the words that came out of Jimin’s mouth is completely and utterly ridiculous. It was all bullshit. Like, what does it have to do with her dead parents? Why did Jimin suddenly attack Suhyeon when she was just trying to help?
Whatever her reasons were, Suhyeon doesn’t care. They are facing a tremendous catastrophe, their group cannot afford to be destructed as they plan to rescue Cheongsan.
“What did she say?”
“Who?”
Suhyeok rolls his eyes as he folds his arms, “Come on, just spill it.”
“You know what? Nayeon and Jimin wouldn’t get mad at me if you didn’t tell our friends to vote for me as a joke!”
“You know how much I love....to make fun of you whenever I am given the chance.” Suhyeok pauses while a smirk comes off on his face when he gets pinched on his ear in return. “Just so you know, it wasn’t entirely my idea you know.”
That is a piece of new information for Suhyeon. According to Cheongsan, it was her brother who was behind it and told them just before the school year started. Who could have thought, that a man like Cheongsan can be a snitch.
But if it wasn’t Suhyeok, who was it?
Just before Suhyeok can tell Suhyeon about the mastermind, a microphone feedback sound and Jimin’s voice can be heard in the room from the recording studio. She must’ve accidentally opened the microphone.
Namra lead the group into the studio while Hyunjae and Suhyeon stayed outside. And the next thing they know, Namra is now orchestrating their plan to leave the place that they are currently in.
Namra starts to draw on the small whiteboard as she tells the entire group about her plan. They will have to make the zombies destructed and while they are at it, the zombies will gather on speakers which are on the left side while they will take the stairs on the right. They will get Cheongsan, and go to the rooftop by using the centre stairs.
“Why the rooftop?”
“Oh gosh, are you really asking that?” Suhyeon turns to her brother, scoffs, “I wonder why would our mom always say you’re smarter than me.” She spoke as she acquired no response from his brother as Suhyeok were paying attention to Namra’s explanation but she heard chuckles from Wujin, Hyunjae, and Daesu.
Now, it has been clear for them that zombies are enticed to sounds or anything that produces noise. They will play an ancient CD–that is what Daesu calls it. Luckily, Namra was a member of the broadcasting club in tenth grade. Making her in charge of the mixing console and Joonyeong on the microphone.
“Help them,”
Suhyeon’s brows are raised, “Hey, I am a lover of music, but that does not mean I know shit about how it is produced.” She responded to Wujin’s statement.
Suhyeon is a member of Hyosan’s choir—together with Daesu—and the representative of the eleventh grade of the Supreme Student Council. She was also a member of the Yearbook for a year as their photographer. However, her parents wanted her to pull out, and so she did. Even if it is against her will.
Once the microphone is assured to be working, Suhyeok sent a message to Cheongsan. “Cheongsan, do you hear us? It’s Suhyeok.”
“That’s the second time in a row now, Suhyeok.”
“Ah, really? So what?” Suhyeok’s lips twitched as he glance at his sister with annoyance, “Anyway, we will come to you, so stay put. Got it?” He interludes, taking a look at Hyunjae as the two of them releases a chuckle, “I know what you will say, but we can’t hear you from here. So, don’t go anywhere and wait for us. You really can’t go anywhere, alright? We will go now.” His speech ended as Hyunjae takes over of the microphone.
“Cheongsan, I will not introduce myself since I am your best pal, so you should recognize me only with my voice. I just wanted to say that you are the biggest idiot aside from my brother, but I like you as did almost everybody in the room that I am in, so, try to stay alive for the time being before we arrive wherever you are.” Hyunjae stated while Daesu and Wujin argued about the terrible odour of the room that they are in.
Then it was On-jo’s turn to talk and share her sentiments towards Cheongsan in front of everyone.
Once the CD has played and the zombies went to the left side of the building the group was about to leave the broadcasting room but was postponed after seeing a zombie keeps smashing its head on the wall. So they had agreed to wait for a little while.
“We cannot wait any longer. Take the others and walk past it as carefully as possible.” Suhyeok gave orders to Wujin and Daesu, he turns his attention to Hyunjae before continuing, “Go with them in front. I will do what I can from behind and take Suhyeon on your side. Keep her safe.” He added.
“You must’ve forgotten that Suhyeon can hear you.”
“I am going with you at the back and I won’t take no as an answer.” Suhyeon latched, stretching her lips for a forced smile. How could her brother ask Hyunjae to do that? The innocent man in between did not even have the chance to butt in because the twins have started arguing.
Thanks to Daesu they stopped after getting in between them. “How about Wujin and I take the lead and you three at the back?” He suggested which made Hyunjae immediately agree.
As for Suhyeon, she just doesn’t want to leave her brother alone. She cannot afford to be separated from him again after yesterday, she will not be able to get through with it.
Suhyeok forcedly agreed as he sighed in defeat, “But Suhyeon, when shit goes south, you leave with Hyunjae and you have to stay close to me or him, alright?” Suhyeon nods her head in amusement, “Everyone, gather together, do not get separated.” He declared openly.
Daesu was the first one to get out of the room, followed by Hyoryung, On-jo, Jimin, Namra, Wujin, Joonyeong, Hyunjae, Suhyeon, and lastly, Suhyeok. The last five students’ eyes were settled on the zombie as they carefully stepped on their tiptoes, not making any sound that could catch the zombie’s attention.
And what they do not like to happen happened.
Joonyeong dropped his flask, making a loud noise that could surely catch its attention. Wujin snatched the flask in his hand as it completely falls to the ground, preventing it to make a louder noise while Joonyeong didn’t leave his eyes on the flesh-eating creature.
Suhyeon used foul language in her mind while she and her friend’s eyes were on the zombie that is making a squeaky sound slowly swivelling its head in their direction.
And run, they did.
Unfortunately, Joonyeong fell on his feet and before the zombie could get him Suhyeok had his hold on it. While Suhyeon and Hyunjae waited on him at the stairs as Joonyeong passes by.
“Hey! Go!”
Suhyeon shook her head, “No. You have to do better than that.” She blurted.
“Fucking go!”
Suhyeon and Hyunjae, surprised by the older twin’s outbursts made them sprint to the fourth floor, leaving Suhyeok alone as he had the rabid creature in his grasps. The former took offence of that, never in Suhyeon’s existence has heard Suhyeok cuss in front of her or at her.
Suhyeok shoved the zombie away from him, and he seized the chance of escaping immediately. The zombie was faster, as it almost got hold of him, luckily he evaded it. However, it started to crab walking towards him.
As Suhyeok was trying to escape the zombie, he landed on the floor while it was on top of him. Blood drips from its mouth as its hands were on his face.
Suddenly, it is dead.
It was Yoon Gwi-nam. Gwi-nam stabbed the zombie twice while its blood splashes on Suhyeok’s face with a kitchen knife. Suhyeok was saved by the person who assaulted his younger sister.
And just by thinking about what Gwi-nam did, a scenario flashed in Suhyeok’s mind. His shy sister, peeking behind the bush, wondering what he was doing and suddenly felt a hand on her waists as Gwi-nam was sniffing Suhyeon’s ear down to her shoulder like a rabid dog.
And rather than being grateful for it, rage dominated his mind as Suhyeok got up immediately from the floor, panting.
“You moron. You let this asshole get you?”
Suhyeok only glared at the one-eyed man. He has no idea who did it to him but whoever that person was, Suhyeok is pleased with it.
“You’re not even going to thank me? I fucking saved you, moron.” Gwi-nam disputed.
“Where is Cheongsan?”
“Why are you looking for him?” Suhyeok’s eye brows puckered, confused about the bully’s sudden interest in his friend which he and his other friends intends to rescue.
Gwi-nam rolled his one eye, “Why? You want me to ask about your sister instead?”
“Fuck off.”
“You were always like that. Always ordering me around and take note it was before the—you know what it was. But it’s okay. Since you were a better fighter than me but you cannot do that anymore!”
Suhyeok swiftly veered as Gwi-nam swung the knife on his face three times. And as the sharp weapon fell off Gwi-nam’s grasps to the stairs as Suhyeok clutched his hand on Gwi-nam’s collar.
For some reason, Gwi-nam had become stronger than Suhyeok and was pushed on the stairs, grunting while he gets up.
“You’re nothing special.”
Gwi-nam made a comment and seeks to throw a kick and punches towards Suhyeok then failed as he quickly dodged all of it.
Suhyeok kneeded Gwi-nam but before he could secure another punch, the former was punched on his gut, letting out a groan. Suhyeok retaliated against Gwi-nam by kicking the back of his left thigh and they both fell to the floor.
“Once I see your sister, I will finish what I started years ago.”
Suhyeok growled as he put his fist onto Gwi-nam’s nose to eliminate any visions he is left of. Just by looking at his missing eye, he is hurt, but and he would love to keep going. Suhyeok desires to make sure Gwi-nam cannot move by the time Suhyeok is done with him.
Gwi-nam might not be able to feel what Suhyeon physically and mentally felt that night but Suhyeok will make sure that the beating Gwi-nam received that night from Suhyeok is just the tip of the iceberg.
It is not like, someone is going to imprison Suhyeok. And even if he got arrested, he does not really mind that much, as long he had inflicted much pain to Gwi-nam, that will make him satisfied.
And yet, even full in rage. Suhyeok is having a hard time knocking him down. Gwi-nam had become stronger than him and it was proven by Suhyeok after he was tossed to the ground and received a few kicks on his ribs.
“Scared, right? I know you’re scared. Aren’t you scared?” Gwi-nam sinisterly chuckled as he choke Suhyeok with his hands after he got called an asshole.
And just before Suhyeok can perish at the hands of the bully, Namra came to the rescue after she got away from Hyunjae who is preoccupied with stopping Suhyeon from going after her brother.
However, Namra got bit on her arm, as it resulted in Suhyeok throwing the mad man out of the window.
On the other hand, the others have arrived at the music room with Cheongsan peeking from the outside of the window and Daesu threw his arms around him.
The next one to embrace Cheongsan was Hyunjae, “So, you like me?” Cheongsan teases, his brows wiggling.
“No, you are not that special.”
Wujin joins into their conversation after Hyunjae let go of Cheongsan’s embrace, “Think about it. Hyunjae would rather admit that he likes Cheongsan than he feels for Suhyeon.” Wujin noted, loud enough that only the four of them can hear.
Suhyeon is at the door, waiting for her brother and Namra to come by.
After On-jo walked into the room and Suhyeon closes it, Cheongsan lets go of Daesu as he was hugged again. “How did you know I was here?” He then plummets to the table after getting hit by On-jo on the back of his knee.
Suhyeon suppresses her laughter as she patiently waits for Suhyeok, and was later joined by Hyunjae on her side.
“I told you not to go. Why don’t you ever listen?”
Daesu assists Cheongsan to get up, “Hey, save the lover’s quarrel for later.” He scolded.
Wujin convinced the group to hurry to the rooftop as the music is about to end. “Guys. We have to wait for—”
Suhyeon was interrupted by On-jo, “Where is Suhyeok? Suhyeok isn’t here.”
On-jo hurries to the door as she seeks to leave and was stopped by Suhyeon blocking the way.
“Aren’t you going to let me out?”
Suhyeon did not speak a word. While Hyunjae stands beside Suhyeon.
“I don’t think Suhyeok would appreciate you endangering yourself,” Hyunjae spoke of, which was shunned by On-jo as he was harshly pushed aside and opened the door and sprinted.
Suhyeon and Hyunjae went after On-jo, “What the hell, On-jo?”
“Hey. Where are you going?” They heard Cheongsan yell from the room. Namra and Suhyeok greeted the group, as they hold hands and ran towards them.
“Go in! Go inside!” Suhyeok hollered.
Suhyeon yanked Hyunjae’s hand and dragged him back inside the music room as Daesu yelled that the zombies are coming. They quickly sealed the curtains as the zombies shrouded the entrance.
“There’s a zombie there. It’s caught under the piano, so it cannot move.” Cheongsan quickly revealed Namra before she reaches closer to the instrument.
Suhyeon struts beside her brother as she examines his face, “Are you alright?” She raises a question as she was about the blood all over his face.
Suhyeok forces a smile before answering, “Don’t worry about me fu–fudge that hurts!”
Suhyeon only rolls her eyes and removed her hand from Suhyeok’s side, “Who the hell beat you up? You don’t have to sensor your swearing in front of me, Suhyeok. I’m ten minutes younger than you, not ten years.” There is no point in it anyway, Suhyeon usually swears in front of him. The older twin did not utter a word and just puts his arms around his sister, he messes up Suhyeon’s hair afterwards.
“We cannot make it to the rooftop, can we? We’re trapped again, aren’t we?”
Hyoryung raises a question.
“Do we really have to answer those questions one by one? I mean, isn’t the answer obvious?” Suhyeon admonished Hyunjae using only her eyes and lightly slapped her leg. So the young man just moved to the other side of Suhyeok.
“There are zombies, so, let’s think a little,” Suhyeok suggested.
Namra groans, sitting on the vacant chair, “This is so annoying.” She complained.
Suhyeon whips her hair twice before parting her hair in half before pressing lightly Suhyeok’s shoulder to ask if did she part her hair properly. The older twin did not bother to look up and just raise his thumb as a response.
“Hey, Prez.” Fear is tainted on Hyoryung’s voice, “Were you bit? That’s a bite mark, right?”
Suhyeon immediately turned to face Namra’s direction after hearing the word bite. She wandered her eyes at Namra’s arm and there was a hole in his sleeve. She may have been bitten by a zombie there.
Suhyeon was discouraged. Just when her friendship with Namra began, then suddenly something unexpected happened. She was supposed to get to know more about Namra and be in an in-depth friendship. She kind of feel bad for Namra. If only she is stronger than Hyunjae, maybe things would be different.
Cheongsan grabbed the music sheet stand from the floor as Suhyeok stepped into the picture, defending Namra.
“Move. Step back.”
“I’m telling you, it’s not.” Suhyeok looked over his shoulder where Namra is, “Tell him that you weren’t bitten by a zombie.” He demanded as he waits for Namra to talk and she didn’t. “Why won’t you say anything? It isn’t a zombie.”
Hyunjae caught a glimpse of On-jo’s jealous gaze towards Suhyeok and Namra. Hence, he asked the lady beside her if she knew something about it.
“Are you seriously more invested about that than what we just discovered?”
Suhyeok’s eyes met Suhyeon’s but he broke it off to look at Cheongsan. “Gwi-nam bit her,” Suhyeok revealed. Cheongsan who was slightly surprised ask again. “Gwi-nam. The bully.” His expression dulled when he saw his younger sister’s agitation and mood change.
Hyunjae clasped Suhyeon’s left hand with his palm perpendicular to hers and wrapped his fingers around the back of her hand. He rotated his palm parallel to Suhyeon’s and interlocked their fingers.
Yoon Gwi-nam. That son of a bitch.
Suhyeon has almost failed to think of what he did to her. Her mind might have forgotten about it, but never her heart and her soul.
“Namra. Were you really bitten by Gwi-nam?”
