CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Kim Hyunjae rested for a while, together with Suhyeok and Wujin as the others proceeded to work on the barricade.
Suhyeok, who just got back from the talk he had with his younger sister—only if you consider that as a talk.
And the people who were not involved distanced themselves from the twins, shut their ears (even if they can’t), and minded their own business as they did not want to meddle in their conversation.
“How was it?”
It was Wujin who raised the query. Well, he fails to win against Hyunjae in a simple, rock, paper, scissors game. That is why he was the one who asked, though, he is also interested in how the conversation went anyway.
“Hyunjae, tell me, was I too obvious?”
A smirk arises on the man who is in question’s face as he hums, “For me, you are. But not too obvious enough for them and Namra to still be clueless.” He responded as Wujin nudged his shoulder.
Suhyeok glared at his friend and then he started mopping. He might be becoming closer to the girl he likes, Namra, but then, his relationship with his younger sister, Suhyeon is slightly in a tough stage. And yet, Suhyeon is saying that she is not mad?
That is complete bullshit.
“Is Suhyeon still mad?” Hyunjae glances at the lady who is too caught up with dragging and helping On-jo from lifting a table.
Wujin slaps Hyunjae on his arm, “You really had to ask?” He sassed, then he turns back his head towards Suhyeok. “Well, I saw her smile earlier. So, that’s a first. Which also made me think that her anger now is far from her wrath after what you did last time.”
The boys and On-jo are too used to Suhyeon rolling her eyes to the point that they will scare her that it will get stuck inside like what happened to this yellow sponge living in a pineapple under the sea.
“Why do you always have had to reminisce about that concert I missed?” Suhyeok spoke, aside from guilt, he felt shameful of what he did. ”And it is constantly between the two of you!” He seethed as he scowled back and forth between Hyunjae and Wujin.
Wujin sighs heavily before he answers back, “No? I was talking about the time you mistook her school project as your trash.”
“Oh, right.”
That. Well, that is another story for another day, and besides, that sin of Suhyeok is 1% deeper than the BTS concert that he missed.
If it weren’t for the teacher’s goodness and Suhyeok acknowledging his negligence in front of the instructor, Suhyeon would have flunked her Chemistry class.
Wujin asserted that Suhyeon will come along later—of course, she definitely will. One of them can wither away in just a blink of an eye so Wujin doubts that Suhyeon will waste the (un)limited and costly time that she and Suhyeok have just because of a stupid fight.
Then, Hyunjae agreed and added, “We aren’t confident of our survival, so, I am optimistic that Suhyeon wouldn’t waste no time for a silly argument. So, I suggest you do the same.”
Wujin was bouncing his head all along with Hyunjae’s statement. A little awestricken at him actually, he faultlessly said what was on his mind. “And, you also have to understand where Suhyeon is coming from.”
“I would be pissed too if I were in her shoes. You are her brother, man. If it is not obvious enough, Suhyeon cares about you and your wellbeing. So, you might have to put off your hero hair for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what you are doing for all of us but, you have to think also not just about her safety but furthermore what she feels about all of this. Suhyeon is just afraid of losing her brother.” Wujin will be the most devastated person in the entire peninsula of South Korea if his older sister will do the same thing that Suhyeok did on Suhyeon.
Although, his older sister does not have a boyfriend or not in any particular relationship (except for her bow and arrow) to be in a situation like that, but still. Wujin will be sad too, of much more than being sad.
Suhyeok hasn’t seen it yet but, it is noticeable enough for Wujin to know that the man has started to feel something deeper with their class president.
However, Hyunjae had made an effort to look and thought of a ton of scenarios where the events took place at the same time, the same circumstance. But instead of Suhyeon going through with it, it was him.
Obviously, no shit did not work.
And somehow, that did not make it easier for Hyunjae to move toward the girl he has strong feelings for.
At most times, he is a good listener and adviser to others. That is according to his comrades but still, they insist that inside of their clique, Hyunjae is the most exceptional adviser among others.
So, imagine, not being able to easily comment about the shitty thing that is happening in their lives that was difficult for Hyunjae.
Extremely difficult.
Once they were wrapped up with the blockade. Suhyeon was tugged into the back of the room by On-jo as it was only Suhyeok, Cheongsan, and Hyunjae were left on the other side.
“Something happened between you and Gwi-nam, am I right? He wanted to kill you.”
Hyunjae heard Suhyeok interrogating Cheongsan as he scans over the stuck zombie on the piano. He peeps over at it before he wanders closer to his friends, eager to learn about the issue of Gwi-nam towards Cheongsan.
“Fuck,”
Cheongsan cursed as he heavily breathe, “I saw him kill the principal. I said I’d tell the cops, so, he tried to kill me.” He quietly announced to his two friends as Cheongsan keeps looking back and forth between Hyunjae and Suhyeok.
“Crazy asshole.” Suhyeok enunciates a cuss word before he spills information Cheongsan should know about, “Gwi-nam is dead.”
“Is he really?”
Suhyeok shifted his gaze to Hyunjae before he confidently bobs his head to confirm it, “He fell from the fourth floor while we were fighting. He even said something about my sister.” He murmured.
“What did he say?”
Hyunjae murmured in a more serious tone. He was supposed to say something humorous about the presumed death of the bully but as soon as he heard from Suhyeok about Suhyeon’s name getting out of Gwi-nam’s mouth, his mood quickly shifted.
“Pure bullshit actually, there is no need to repeat it.” Suhyeok couldn’t find himself to emit the same words that came out of Gwi-nam’s mouth.
It was extremely disgusting.
Aside from wanting to kill Cheongsan, he would like to do something bad to his sister? And Gwi-nam also has the thick skin to tell it in front of his face, Suhyeon’s brother?
Suhyeok could have easily beat the shit out of Gwi-nam, however, the bully was surprisingly a lot stronger than he was before.
He wanted to warn Hyunjae about it then, Suhyeok recalled that the man has intense emotions towards his sister and, he counts on him to keep her safe—along with him of course.
And besides, Yoon Gwi-nam is dead.
One problem is off their list and now, they have to concentrate more on how will they successfully go to the roof of their school without being bit and scraped by the zombies, separated from each other, or worst, dead.
“And I like Namra.”
Cheongsan quickly glimpses at Hyunjae who happens to have a huge smirk on his face, “What?” Innocence was seen in Cheongsan’s eyes.
“I have liked Namra for a while.” Suhyeok side-eyed Hyunjae then he looks back to Cheongsan. “He and Wujin are aware of it.”
“What? The classroom president?”
Suhyeok chuckles as he ignores the young man’s question, “Be good to On-jo, okay? Don’t treat her like a guy, you moron.” Then, he veered around his head towards Hyunjae after withdrawing his palm on Cheongsan’s shoulder. “And you, dipshit, tell my sister what you feel for her already.” He strongly urged as a grin emerges on his face.
“Shut up,”
Hyunjae snorted as he shifts his glance around the room while Cheongsan did not even look at him.
Cheongsan was just staring straight right into Suhyeok’s eyes compelling Suhyeok to grin as he put his palm back on Cheongsan’s shoulder.
“What are you looking at?” Suhyeok implores before he broke the eye contact that he shared with Cheongsan and turned to where Hyunjae was strutting, who has his forehead wrinkled and arms crossed.
“Is this what they call bromance?” Hyunjae pointed his finger to Cheongsan and Suhyeok, then he received a middle finger from Suhyeok making him chuckles.
Gone was the smile on Suhyeok’s face as it changes to a serious look.“I am going to open the door. Go. Get over there, you two.” Suhyeok ordered as he pushed his two friends closer to the barricade.
“Go!”
Cheongsan nods his head at Suhyeok before climbing over the cabinet and being welcomed by On-jo.
It hasn’t been an hour yet since Hyunjae, Suhyeok, and Wujin’s conversation about laying low and taking his hero hair off, he did wear it again.
“Want to switch places?” Hyunjae brings up a question, earning daggering stares and roll eyes from Suhyeok.
Then, Suhyeok opened the sliding door on the entrance to purposely caught the zombies attention outside.
It is fortunate that Hyunjae was able to jump over the cupboard without any difficulties—it is a good thing the floor caught his falling arse.
Although it was painful as fuck.
Hyunjae was later on followed by Suhyeok as the duo blocked the space with a long table by flipping it vertically.
“You really had to do that?” Hyunjae raises a question—together with his eyebrows since he did not bother to annoy Suhyeok from telling him about what Gwi-nam said about Suhyeon.
He sensed that it was something horrible.
Suhyeok did not even respond to Hyunjae’s question, he only instructed him to push the cabinet.
Without realizing it, Joonyeong has already played the recording of their school choir singing from the video camera they used earlier while the audio can be heard in the sound system close to the television as the zombies are coming into the room as if they were entranced by the singing—or just mainly the noise.
Daesu and Cheongsan joined Hyunjae and Suhyeok by shoving another cabinet to block zombies from getting on to the barricade.
With all her might and strength, Suhyeon pushes her torso against the table to hold off the barricade together with the other lady friends she is with.
On Cheongsan’s side, a single chair plummets off him without hitting him.
That made Suhyeon wonder if that would happen to her too.
A chair is about to fall onto her head and as Suhyeon is foreseeing it, she shuts down her eyes just to be dramatic, yet nothing falls in her head. However, she gave attention to a wince coming from a person standing next to her.
As Suhyeon gradually opens her eyes to confirm if the person who was standing next to her was the person she expected to be. The lady’s hope died down when she listened to his voice cooing her.
“Are you alright, Suhyeon?”
Suhyeon falsifies a smile before she answered back, “Thank you for that, Wujin.”
“Don’t sweat it,” Wujin responded as he dabs Suhyeon’s head like a dog, then he stoops in closer to her ear. “You were expecting someone else, aren’t you?” A playful smirk on his face.
“Piss off,”
Suhyeon yanks herself off the blockade when Wujin wouldn’t stop cracking up and teasing her. Making the blockade stumble, that is when Wujin playfully blamed her and pleaded to help him from pushing it.
Unknowingly, that someone else was gawking at them the whole time while he strives to propel the cabinet preventing the zombies from getting inside their barricade.
Wujin catches the stares of Hyunjae, “Tell her already!” He mouthed to him which only made Hyunjae scoff and then he changed the direction of his eyes on the ground, channelling his jealousy and resentment towards himself to shove the cabinet further.
On-jo commanded Daesu to create some noise and he obeyed immediately. “You zombie bastards!”
“Come here, you fucking zombies!”
Fascinated.
That was Suhyeon was after hearing her friend’s voice. She found herself appreciating Daesu’s pitch. And how he managed to breathe as if he was aiming for a long and high note. The man has a good voice even if he was just shouting. How great is that?
Then, Suhyeon brushes off her thoughts about Daesu’s talent. They are on the verge of a life and death situation and yet she was thinking about the man’s ability to sing?
Later on, On-jo, along with Jimin, Joonyeong, Hyoryung, and Namra grab each of the instruments laid on the floor. While Suhyeon was left alone, thrusting the cabinet with all of her power as Wujin ran towards the window to look at the condition outside.
Seeing Suhyeon struggling, Hyunjae quickly strides closer to her as Suhyeok occupied the space his friend left to help his struggling sister.
“You can now go and help them with the noise,” Hyunjae rasped.
Suhyeon scoffs lightly as she lets out a groan, “Oh, darling. I am no damsel in distress.” She spoke as she tugged the music sheet stand and then she flips it over to jab the zombie on its neck with the stand’s foot that ascended behind the cabinet.
“Shit, shit, holy shit!”
Suhyeon continuously curses as the zombie’s blood that she hit splatters on her face. She flipped the stand without holding the blood trail on its foot and shoved it to the zombie.
While Hyunjae made an effort to stop himself from cracking up as he saw Suhyeon bash another zombie’s head with the same object she used to jab the previous zombie on its neck.
As the barricade continues to sway, slowly giving in to the number of zombies that are flocking the other side, Cheongsan found a baseball bat and began to smash the zombies that are coming to their side of the room.
While Hyoryung and Daesu wailed at the man watching over the situation outside the room, Wujin.
Suhyeon grew tired of poking and jabbing the zombies in their side, with her full power, she threw the music sheet stand on the zombies before taking hold of her breath for a second and then went back to helping Hyunjae from pushing the cabinet.
Seeing how bloodstained Suhyeon’s face was as of this moment, Hyunjae recalled the handkerchief he provided to the lady beside him. “Your face is full of dried blood,”
“I still look beautiful, right?”
Hyunjae snorted as he furrowed his eyebrows, “Just wipe the blood off your face,” He cried out.
Suhyeon imitates arrogantly and did what she was expected to do, while doing it, they were still pushing. Hyunjae’s mesmerising pointed eyes were settled on her. “What are you looking at?” She scowled as she aggressively wipe the wet blood off her skin.
“God, you look exactly like Suhyeok, it is so scary.”
Suhyeon glared at him shortly before she throw the handkerchief on Hyunjae’s face which he quickly dodged but then he bumped his head into the wood. And before the man could protest, Wujin’s announcement rang like music on their ears.
“It’s clear! We have to go now!”
“Fuckin’ finally!”
Little by little, the barricade was left unattended to the point where the only ones left inside the room were Daesu, Cheongsan, Suhyeok, Hyunjae, and Suhyeon.
If it weren’t for Suhyeok dragging his younger sister out of the room while Daesu insisted to be left alone together with Cheongsan as they continued to push, Suhyeon and Hyunjae won’t be able to exit the room.
As the group fled through the halls and took the staircase to reach the rooftop, Suhyeon carried the same baseball bat that Cheongsan utilized earlier after giving it to her after he uses it.
Suhyeon grasps for air after they arrived at the last floor before the rooftop, however, the door was closed up, as if someone locked it up from the other side which leads to the lads smashing and doing everything they can to have the door unlocked.
Joonyeong initiated to knock at the door, conversing and begging as if someone was on the other side of the door.
Yet, nothing worked.
Hyunjae and Suhyeon stood on the railings, together with Suhyeok and Namra, grabbing the opportunity to rest their bodies and to gain their strength.
“They’re coming.”
Although, Suhyeon doesn’t have any supernatural abilities like Namra, something inside of her senses that something awful will happen again and unlike before, they will not be able to run away.
