CHAPTER FOUR:
PRECIOUS MEMORY
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
Malia Tate stood in front of Elena Calavera's bed, explaining the plan that the pack had agreed on at school today, "So Kira asked out a freshman?" She asks as she throws a piece of popcorn into her mouth.
"Yeah," The blonde answers, "Wait is that the only thing you got from my explanation?" Elena shrugs while smiling sheepishly.
"It was the only interesting part," The huntress confesses, standing up and walking over to her closet to pick an outfit out for tonight.
Malia shakes her head, laughing, "Anyways, why were you not at school today?" The huntress stopped looking through her closet. The question from the were coyote, catching her off guard.
She turns back to look at the girl who was now sitting on her bed, flipping through a book Elena had on her nightstand, "After yesterday, I couldn't bring myself to face Scott or Liam." She answers truthfully.
Malia looks up, closing the book and giving her whole attention to her newly found friend, "What do you mean?" She questions, not understanding what the girl was trying to say.
Elena sighs while tucking her hair behind her ear, "Do you remember my grandmother?"
"You mean the scary old lady with the guns we met back in Mexico," Malia corrects, causing the brunette to give her a 'seriously' look, "Yeah she seems vaguely familiar."
The hunter rolls her eyes at her friend's comment and then continued, "When Scott and I were talking to her before we walked over to you guys, she told him that once he takes the bite of an innocent she will cross his border and come knocking at his door."
Malia throws a piece of popcorn into her mouth, "So? It's not like she's gonna find ou-." The blonde stops for a moment, realizing what her friend was trying to say, "Unless you tell her."
"Yeah," Elena nods slowly. She begins to think about the dilemma, her dilemma. She tilts her head slightly before speaking, "How am I supposed to choose what side I'm on?" She asks, looking over at Malia for some helpful advice. The blonde looks at her, sympathy in her eyes. Ever since the were coyote and the huntress had met they had some sort of bond. Elena felt like she could be herself with the blonde, just like she could when she was with Allison.
Malia shakes her head, "I don't think I should be the one who answers that," She states, sighing as she watches the brunette grow anxious from the current problem she was facing, "However, I can tell you that whatever you decide, I will always be here for you."
Before Elena could respond, her bedroom door swings open to reveal none other than her twin brother, Marcos Calavera, standing in the doorway. The boy awkwardly waves, not knowing what else to do.
"Do you need something?" His sister questions while turning her head to look at him.
Marcos claps his hands together and points over to his sister, "Right!" The boy leaves the room, causing the two girls to look at each other with confusion written all over their faces. After a short while, he returns with a small gift box, handing it to his sister, "This came for you."
Elena takes the box, "Thanks." She mutters as her brother shuts the door, leaving the two alone.
"What is it?" Malia asks, moving over and patting a spot next to her on the bed for the huntress to sit down in which she does. The brunette opens the box to reveal one of the only things she had left of Allison. "Pretty." The were coyote commented as Elena slowly pulls out half of a silver heart locket with the initials A.A on the front of it.
The huntress smiles softly, remembering the exact moment her angel of a best friend had given it to her. However, shifting the girl's mood was a note laid on the bottom of the box that read, 'don't forget where you came from' — dad. Elena clenched her fist while anger boils inside of her, as she acknowledges the fact her very own father had tried using a precious memory of her former best friend against her.
Malia noticed the abrupt mood change she had displayed, "Elena, are you alright?" She asks, looking at her friend's fists.
"Yeah, I'm fine," The brunette lied, crumbing the note then sticking it in her pocket as she walks back to her closet. She scanned over her clothes before holding up two options towards the were coyote, "Now, which top should I wear tonight?"

Chains were placed across the living room table at Lydia Martin's grandmother's house. The whole pack stood around it, waiting for Kira to return with the newly bitten wolf, "Scott, I still think we should consider drowning the kid." Stiles urges, causing Elena to turn her head and face the human boy.
"Can I drown you?" She asks with a smile plastered on her face, an image already projecting in her head.
Stiles rolled his eyes but before he could come back with something, the door opened with the two supernatural beings entering. This took the attention away from the two bickerings and instead put it onto the blonde freshman.
"Sorry." The kitsune apologized as she closed the door behind them.
Liam sighed, looking at the group in front of him, "What the hell is this?"
"Think of it like an intervention. You have a problem, Liam." Stiles told the boy as Elena walks over and stands next to the banshee.
"And we're the only ones that can help," Scott added, making Liam cross his arms in anger.
The group then started to explain what supernatural creature they were and added a summary of it. Once they were all finished the boy began to recap, "Werewolf." The freshman started, pointing at the McCall boy in front of him. "Werecoyote. Banshee. Hunters. Fox?"
"Kitsune. But fox works," Kira shrugged after correcting him.
"What are you?" Liam asked, nodding his head towards Stiles.
"Uh, for a little while, I was possessed by an evil spirit. It was very evil." The human explained, not bringing up good memories in the packs' minds.
Liam nodded before questioning, "What are you now?"
The brunette paused for a moment, not sure how to answer his question, "Better."
The blonde noticed the chains on the table, "Are those for me?"
"No, they're for me," Malia answers as she glows her icy blue eyes at him.
Liam's eyes widen as he steps back, shocked at what the girl had just done, "How did you do that?"
"You'll learn. But first, you need to get through the full moon." Scott explained
"The moon's already out," The freshman states, annoyed at the group who he thinks is wasting his time.
"And you're starting to feel something, aren't you?" Scott questioned, remembering his first-ever full moon.
"I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of psychotic nutjobs," Liam shouted towards them, "You guys are out of your freaking minds!"
"Here we go," Elena mumbled, not wanting to watch the poor kid go through this horrific stage.
"I don't know how you did that eye thing and I don't care. I'm walking out the door right now! If any of you try to stop me, I swear to God, I'm gonna -." Liam finally stopped as his hands covered his ears and screaming in pain.
Scott walked toward the young boy in front of him, "What's wrong, Liam?"
"You don't hear that?" The blonde questioned, causing Scott to concentrate his hearing on what he was talking about. After a few moments, lights shined through the window, vehicles approaching the scene.
The group looks outside before Lydia asks the freshman who was still recovering from the blaring car radios, "Did you tell someone about this?
"My friend Mason." Liam confessed as car doors shut and hooting teens erupted outside, "You said it was a party."
"Who did Mason invite?" Stiles interrogated while Kira peeked out the window.
"Everyone." The kitsune commented, returning her attention to the rest of the pack.
Liam began clawing at the wooden floors, causing Lydia to step forward, "The floors! Get him off the floors!" She begged as the werewolf lifted his head, roaring at her to stop coming any closer to which she listened.
"We need to get him to the boathouse. Now!" Scott shouted while Kira and Marcos carried the boy out the back door.
"Stiles." Malia groaned as she dropped down onto the table, catching the rest of the group's attention.
"Yeah?" The boy answers.
The were coyote turned her head to reveal her cold icy blue eyes and her dagger-sharp fangs, "Hey. Okay, basement. Now. Now." Stiles ordered, gathering the chains together and hoisting the girl on his side.
"What am I supposed to do with the hordes gathering outside the door?" The strawberry blonde questioned as Malia and Stiles stood impatiently at the doorway towards the basement.
"Lydia, who throws the best parties in Beacon Hills?" The human shot back.
"What?" She gasped, offended he would even ask her that, "Me, obviously."
"Okay, then throw a party," Stiles concluded as Malia shuffled towards the basement with Stiles following shortly behind.
Elena looked down at her outfit as the strawberry blonde scoffed towards the boys' comment, "At least, I didn't wear sweatpants tonight." The huntress stated as Lydia grabbed her hand, leading her to the front door.
Once the two opened it, a huge group of freshmen stood before her. Some of the kids Elena didn't even recognize, "Hey. Uh, are we in the right place?" A dark-skinned boy asks, causing the huntress to look at the Martin girl who stood next to her.
The huntress then saw a familiar face. The same face from the boys' lacrosse tryouts, Garrett. "For the party?" He questions, eyeing the brunette up and down.
Lydia paused for a moment before replying, "Absolutely." The herd of students cheered in excitement as they welcomed themselves into Lydia Martin's lake house.
"This shall be fun," The huntress whispered towards the banshee, nudging her arm lightly and walking into the party.
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
Elena walked through the freshman-infested lake house with an empty red solo cup in her hand, heading towards the kitchen to get a refill for the best friend of the new changing werewolf, Mason Hewitt.
Just as she was about to turn the corner, her phone buzzed in the back of her jean pocket, signaling she had just received a text. The brunette pulls her phone out with her head down, not paying any attention to where she was going.
Catching the girl's awareness was her body colliding with another, accidentally letting her phone slip from her hand. However, the stranger in front of her managed to catch it, slowly giving it back to the hunter.
"Thanks," Elena said, taking her phone and picking her head up, making eye contact with a tall dirty blonde-haired boy who was already admiring the brunette in front of him. "I'm Elena," She tells him, snapping the boy out of his thoughts and finally introducing himself.
"Brett. Brett Talbot," He replies while taking his eyes off the girl in front of him, "Are you new in Beacon Hills?" He asks as he recalls never seeing her until now.
Elena smiles before setting her stuff on the kitchen counter, "Is it that obvious?"
Brett chuckles at the girl's question, following her actions, and places his drink down, "No, I just would've remembered seeing you before."
The huntress turns her head, facing the boy who was now standing right beside her, already looking in her direction, "Does that normally work on girls around here?" She questions, looking around at all the freshman girls.
"Sometimes," Brett jokes, earning a laugh to escape from Elena's lips, "But most of the time, they just fall for my great looks."
"Sure," She mumbles, looking down at her hands when she spoke.
Brett admired the huntress yet again, but this time his eyes shifting to the girl's silver heart locket hanging around her neck. He reached over, taking the locket in his hand, making Elena gulp nervously, "What do the initials stand for? Some sort of boyfriend?" He asks, pulling his arm back and leaning onto the counter.
The brunette drops her head to look at the locket, "It's the initials of my best friend." She tells him, thinking back to the beautiful smile of her dear friend, Allison Argent.
"She must really love you," Brett says, acknowledging the affection that the two girls had shared for one another.
"Yeah, she did," She corrects him, making the boy tilt his head, unaware of the grieving girl beside him, "She died a few months ago," Elena added, turning her head to look at him to see his reaction.
However, what the brunette did not expect was for him to pull out a watch from his back pocket, "It belonged to my dad." He told her, holding it in front of him so she could see. "My parents died in a house fire when I was young. My sister and I are the only two who survived." He tells her, making sure she didn't feel uncomfortable with sharing her feelings with him. The two didn't know why, but in the short span of time they had just met in, they felt as though they've known each other there whole life.
Elena took off her locket and placed it onto his hand that was holding the watch as she gives him a small smile, the both of them remembering the two major losses they had experienced. But before the brunette could say anything else, Mason runs over to the two, startling the both of them, "Lydia told me to tell you that Scott wants you to meet him in the boathouse." He pants, breathing heavily from running down the stairs.
The huntress looks over to Mason who was starring hard at her's and Brett's hands touching, "Okay." She answers, taking her hand back from the boy who stood beside her, "It was nice meeting you." She tells Brett as she begins walking towards the back door.
Mason quickly stops her, whispering in her ear, "I would've forgotten my drink too."
Elena rolls her eyes before smiling and heading down to meet the alpha, her brother, the kitsune, and the newly bitten freshman. Once the girl had arrived, she saw Kira helping her brother stand up, Scott or Liam nowhere to be found, "What happened?" She asks, immediately running over to him.
He leaned onto her side as Kira explained to her what Liam had done, pointing out to the broken window, "And Scott ran after him, telling the two of us to wait here for you."
The huntress nodded before putting Marcos's arm around Kira, "I'm gonna go after them."
"Are you insane!" The other Calavera exclaimed, groaning in pain from the previous attack he had just experienced.
"I'll be fine, just stay here if Scott comes back," Elena nods, running out before her brother could protest.
The hunter stopped running through the woods since she finally acknowledged her poor choice of footwear, "The one day I wear heels." She mutters, annoyed with her shoe choice decision. A twig snaps, causing Elena to quickly pull out a dagger, looking in every direction while holding her weapon up. "Werewolf eyes would be so helpful right about now," She sarcastically states to herself, not being able to see anything but trees and darkness.
The girl squints at movements in the distance, "Scott?" She asks, hoping it was the alpha and not the beta who was going full-on crazy to anyone who got in his way.
"Look out!" A voice shouts, making Elena look and see Liam run right at her.
"Oh great," She mutters, briefing herself for the impact the werewolf will bring. However, the brunette feels herself getting tackled onto the ground, but not by the murderous werewolf. "Brett?" She asks, looking down at him as he laid underneath her.
Before the boy could respond, Liam takes a deep breath and roars. After he finishes, he starts moving closer to the two teenagers who were standing up from the ground. Elena looked over her body, trying to find her dagger. "Damnit," She says, seeing the dagger right next to Liam. Brett grabs her arm, pulling her away from the creature that was trying to kill them both.
Once the two were outside of Lydia's lake house, they stopped to catch their breath, "Did you follow me?" Elena asks, confused as to why the boy was in the woods the same as her.
"What!? No, absolutely not." Brett lies, shaking his head back and forth, "Okay fine, I did follow you, but I had a totally good reason." He confesses, putting his hands up in the air.
"Which was?" She questions while placing both her hands onto her hips.
"This," He responds, showing her the locket she had left in his hand after running out to the boathouse.
The girl smiles brightly, taking the necklace from him, "I can't believe I left it." She says, mad at herself for almost losing the one thing she had left of Allison. "Do you mind?" She asks, giving Brett back the locket while turning around and moving her hair to the side.
The boy clipped the necklace back onto the girl's neck, "There." He tells her, causing Elena to spin back around. Brett took a minute, looking over the girl he had only just met today. He reached out, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear, "Be careful in Beacon Hills." He says with the thought of her safety in the back of his mind.
She nods, "I guess I'll see you around then." The brunette tells him while she opens the back door of the Lakehouse, revealing no freshmen in sight.
"I hope so," Brett tells her, a smirk forming on his lips, leaving the girl as she entered the house.
Elena smiles against the door, thinking about the sweet and hot guy she had just encountered. However, the smile fades away once she sees Kira walking down the stairs with a non-amused look on her face, "Oh no. What's wrong?"
The kitsune motioned for her to follow in which she did. Elena then found herself in the study, where she saw Lydia sitting in front of an open computer. The two brunettes lean over the strawberry blonde's shoulder, watching as she typed.
A L L I S O N
As soon as she hit enter, names popped up on the screen with numbers next to them. Elena read the names before looking over at her two friends, both of their names on it along with Scott's.
"What is this?" Kira asks, unsure of what this meant for the pack.
"It's a list of supernaturals in Beacon Hills," Lydia answers, scanning every name on the screen, "It's a dead pool." She adds, making Kira quickly glance over at the banshee before she continues, "And we're all on it."
