CHAPTER FIVE:
WRONG TARGET
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
The huntress stood at her locker and pulls out the textbooks she needs for her next class as her brother stands next to her, explaining what all the pack had found out, "Which means the killer is on the team." He finishes, looking at his sister and waiting for her reaction.
She casually turned to her brother, "And you guys still want to play? Even if a freaking assassin could kill you." She says, not sure if they were all extremely brave, or if they all needed a head examination.
Marcos shrugs, "Well technically they aren't after me." His sister mentally rolls her eyes at his comment, but before she could reply a voice caught her attention, shouting through the school's hallway was Mason Hewitt as he quickly sped after Liam Dunbar who looked like he wanted to punch anything in sight.
Elena closes her locker and grabs her brother's hand, pulling him and following where the two freshmen had gone. The twins found themselves outside, a huge crowd swarming around the scene that was about to go down, "Who the hell is that?" Marcos asks, causing the huntress to squint and see who he was talking about.
The girl was in shock when she recognized those dazzling blue eyes, "Brett?" She questions and quickly grabs ahold of Marcos's hand again, pulling him closer to the two boys. They pushed through the crowd until they finally found Mason whose eyes were glued on the two. Brett towered over Liam with an unamused look plastered on both of their faces.
"I'm guessing they don't like each other," Marcos said, causing Brett to look over at both the Calavera's. His face softening when he sees the brunette he had rescued yesterday. Elena shifts uncomfortably as she feels Mason and Marcos staring at her too.
Taking the attention away from the huntress was Liam as he spoke, "I just wanted to say..." He started with an enraged look all over his face. "Have a good game," He finished, extending his hand to the other blue-eyed boy who stood in front of him.
Brett laughed as his teammates did too, causing Elena to feel something grow in the pit of her stomach, disappointment. "That's cute, Liam. Is that what they told you to say in Anger Management? Apologize and everything's fine? You demolished Coach's car."
"I paid for it," Liam replied, causing Elena to bite the bottom of her lip, not wanting this to go on for much longer.
Brett nodded, "Yeah, you're going to pay for it. We're gonna break you in half out there. And it's gonna be all your fault." He emphasizes, causing Liam to clench his fist tightly as blood spilled through his closed knuckles.
Scott and Stiles quickly ran over to the freshman as they were watching from afar, "Hey, what's going on prep students? Welcome to our little public high school. How you doing? Stiles. That's a firm handshake you got there. Uh, we're very excited for the scrimmage tonight. Uh, but Let's keep it clean, all right? No rough stuff out there. All right, see you on the field. Go." He finishes, turning back to Liam and Scott pushing them away from the scene.
The huntress started to follow, but before she could go anywhere a hand caught her wrist. She turned back to be met with Brett who already had an apologetic look on his face, "Elena-." He started, however, he was shortly cut off.
The girl took her wrist back and put it up, stopping him from what he was about to say, "Don't say anything." She begs, not recognizing this arrogant teenage boy that stood in front of her. He slowly nodded in which was all Elena needed to leave him and find her friends.
Once she finally managed to find the others, what she saw was not what she expected, "Okay, you calm yet?" Stiles asked while Scott and he held back an enraged beta under the locker room shower.
Liam roared, making Scott nod his head back to Stiles in which they both shoved him back under, "Okay! Okay!" He shouted as Stiles turned off the water and Liam sitting down by Elena's feet.
"That car you smashed. I thought you said that was your teacher's." Scott asked, looking down to the soaking wet werewolf below him.
Liam looked between the group as he fidgeted with his fingers, "He was also my Coach. He benched me for the entire season."
"What did you do?" The McCall boy questioned, wondering how this kid managed to piss the whole lacrosse team as well.
Liam shook his head, water flinging onto Elena's pants, "I got a couple of red cards." He mumbled, making Elena crouch down next to him.
Stiles leaned forward, "Just a couple?"
Liam looked towards the pale human before going back to fidgeting with his fingers, "You gotta be honest with us. What else happened?" Scott asked, crouching down to be eye level with him.
"Nothing," Liam started, causing the huntress to put her hand on his shoulder, rubbing it in comfort that he could tell them the truth, "I got kicked out of school. They sent me to a psychologist for evaluation."
"What did they call it?" Marcos asked this time as he stood closer next to Stiles.
"Intermittent Explosive Disorder," Liam answered, not breaking eye contact with Scott or Stiles.
Stiles scoffed, "I.E.D? You're literally an I.E.D? That's great. That's great. You gave powers to a walking time bomb." He said, giving Scott a thumbs up and making Elena stand up.
"Do you ever shut up?" She asks, not amused at the words coming out of his mouth. The brunette didn't know why, but she felt this older sisterly protection over Liam, even if he did almost kill her last night.
"Did they give you anything for it?" Scott questions, putting the attention back on Liam.
"Risperdal. It's an antipsychotic," He replies, this time not making eye contact with any of them.
"Oh, this just gets better," Stiles mutters to himself, earning another glare from the huntress.
"But I don't take it," Liam told them.
"Obviously," Stiles added with a smug smile on his face while clasping his hands together.
Liam shook his head, "I can't play lacrosse on it. It makes me too tired."
Stiles sighs as he looks over to his best friend who was thinking about what to say, "Okay. I think you should bail out of the game. Tell Coach your leg is still hurting."
"No, no!" Liam shouted, carefully standing as Elena helped him. "I can do this. Especially if you're there." He finishes, motioning to Scott first then after a while he looks to his left at where the huntress stood.
Stiles rubs his hands over his face, hiding his annoyed expression as Scott stepped forward, "But, Liam, it's not just about the game. We think whoever killed Demarco might be on our team."
"Who's Demarco?" Liam asks, making Elena look at the alpha, unsure of who Demarco is too.
"The one who brought the beer to the party. The guy who was beheaded. Remember?" Stiles answered, swatting his hands around and causing the huntress to nod when she remembered what Marcos told her.
Scott nodded, "We think the person who ordered the keg killed Demarco." Liam looked down, realization washing over him, "Liam? What, you know something?" Scott interrogated, causing all eyes to fall on the blonde freshman.
Liam slowly picked his head up, shaking it slightly in which water sprung off as it slowly grazed Elena's cheek softly, "I don't know who ordered the keg. But I know who paid for it."

As the game was about to start, Liam began rambling, Elena, Marcos, and Mason trying to listen as they noticed Brett across the field who was just now putting on a shirt. The brunette quickly snapped her attention back to the beta beside her as he spoke, looking back at his group of friends, "I don't care if he's a foot taller than me. I think I can take him."
Marcos chuckled slightly at the boys' delusional statement, "If you mean to take him out on a date, then sure." He says, earning a slap on the arm from his sister. "Ow!" He mutters as he slowly rubs his upper forearm.
"Yeah," Mason adds, clearly still distracted by the sight in front of him.
Liam turns his head to look at Brett, furrowing his brows and slowly turning his head back to his best friend who was still staring at the Talbot boy, "What do you think you're doing?"
The question caught Mason off guard, "What? Me?"He asks, scoffing at his ridiculous question, "Agreeing with you. I'm being agreeable." He answers, nodding his head as Liam did too. Elena laughed slightly while the group all turned their heads back to the tall boy in green who was now putting his gear on.
"You think he's hot, don't you?" Liam was interrogated, mainly towards his best friend as the Calaveras still had their eyes glued on the boy.
"No! No. Not at all. No way!" Mason quickly responded, causing Elena to look over at him with a look of disbelief. Mason sighed, "Maybe. Yeah, maybe a little."
Brett turned his head to the group, mainly looking at one brunette in particular. Marcos noticed his gaze on his sister who's eyes were on Mason and Liam, he slowly leaned into her ear, "Why is Mr. eight pack staring at you?"
Elena rolled her eyes, ignoring his question as she looks back to the boy across the field who gave her an apologetic smile, causing her to look away. Snapping her back into the conversation of the group was Liam, "He wants to destroy me."
Marcos shrugged, "Is that such a bad thing?"
"We think you could definitely take him," Mason added while Liam gave him a nod of approval, "And then give him to us." He finishes, pointing to Marcos and him, making the group erupt into laughter. "No, no just go out there and kick their smug prep school asses," Mason exclaimed as Elena smiled softly to the freshman who were already staring at her.
"All right," Liam answered, fist-bumping his best friend and pulling his helmet over his head. Elena turned to her brother, smoothing out his uniform while he stood there awkwardly. Once she was finished, she pushed him into the crowd of maroon lacrosse jerseys.
"Good luck!" She called out, smiling brightly at her brother's success.
Just as Mason and her were about to head up to the bleachers a voice stopped her right in her tracks, "Elena!" She slowly turned back, seeing a certain rival lacrosse player coming over to her.
The huntress looked back at Mason, "Save me a seat." He nodded and headed up the stairs, leaving the two alone. "I thought I said not to talk to me," She said, crossing her arms with an annoyed look plastered on her face.
Brett sighed, "Do I even get a chance to explain myself?" He questioned, making the brunette's face soften.
Elena shifted, thinking about whether or not to let him explain his previous actions, "Fine." She agrees, shaking her head slightly. "After the game, you can explain why you were such a dick."
Brett chuckles at the girl's comment, "Can't wait." After those words left his mouth, he jogged back over to his teammates. She forced herself to not give him the satisfaction of letting a smile creep onto her face however, that doesn't stop her heart from beating intensely.
The brunette turns back to the crowd of students, searching for Mason in the midst of them. She finally manages to spot him as he waves his hands to get her attention. She heads up the bleachers, sitting next to Mason as the girl beside him peeks her head to look at the huntress, "Your name's Elena, right?"She nodded in response to her question while the girl extends her hand, "I'm Violet."
Elena shakes the girl's hand, "Nice to meet you." She says, taking her hand back and focusing her attention on the field.
"Hey, Liam! Think fast!" Brett shouted, launching a ball at the beta's face in which he managed to catch. Elena was stunned at how fast his reflexes were, even if she knew he was a werewolf.
Snapping her back into reality was the referee's whistle, initialing the scrimmage was about to start. Maroon jerseys swarmed over the field including, Liam, Scott, Stiles, Kira, and Marcos, "Let the game begin." She mutters, taking a deep breath and preparing herself for anything that could happen.
As the game went on, Brett scored most of Devonford's points which was usually followed by him looking up into the bleachers at Elena as a smirk grew on his face. Violet noticed the consistent pattern between the two before asking, "How long have you known Brett?"
The question catches the huntress off guard, not sure of why she would care to know, "Not long." She replies bluntly, her attention still faced on her Garrett, the possible assassin at their school.
"Would you kill for him?" Violet asks, earning Elena to divert her attention from the field to the other brunette with a look of confusion written on her face.
"I'm sorry?" She questions back, not sure if what she heard was the actual question.
"I said," She pauses, leaning into her ear, "Would you kill for him?" Elena looks at the girl who had suspicion written all over her face. However, just as the huntress was about to answer a collision on the field quickly diverted her attention away once she saw who it was.
"Holy shit," Elena mumbles as she stands up from her place on the bleachers, running down to the scene and ignoring the calls from Coach Finstock, telling her to go back up on the stands.
Elena reached the group as Scott pulled Liam up from the ground, "How hard did you hit him?" He asked as the huntress started to check over him, making sure he was okay.
"I didn't," The freshman panted out, still recovering from the hit he'd just took, "He hit me." He finished, revealing his broken forearm to the older group that surrounded him.
The twins winced as Stiles rubbed the back of his neck before muttering and taking a deep breath, "Ow."
Scott took off his gloves, grabbing the boy's arm, "Close your eyes."
Liam did what he was told as the alpha twisted the boy's arm back into place while the beta let out a huge groan followed by, "Ow!"
Turning Elena's attention from the pack was Brett, screaming in pain from the hit he had just gone through, "All right, Brett, we're gonna pick you up now." The trainer said, carefully placing Brett's arms over his shoulders and taking him away from the scene.
Scott snaps his head to Liam after he and Garrett make eye contact with each other, "Are you cut? Did Garret cut you?"
Liam shakes his head, "No, no. I'm okay."
"Then he missed," Scott added, making Elena grow uneasy about the whole situation as if the group was missing an important piece to the puzzle.
Liam looked at his alpha, scared of what he was trying to say, "What do you mean?"
Scott looked at his beta, stepping closer so other's couldn't hear him, "It's you, Liam. You're the one he's after."
After the incident with Liam and Brett, Liam left to go speak to Coach Finstock as Marcos, Kira, Elena, and Scott all stood around, speaking to one another, "I talked to Coach. I'm out for the rest of the game."
"What are you gonna do?" Kira asked the alpha.
Scott shook his head, "I don't know. Something's still not right. We're missing something."
Elena nodded in agreement, and then she remembered her talk with Violet. The talk that happened right before this whole fiasco, "Oh my god." She mumbles, getting everyone's attention.
"What?" Marcos questions his sister who stood beside him.
She shook her head looking from Liam to Scott, "I don't think Liam was the one he's after."
Before anyone could respond to her statement, Stiles calls out to the group with his phone in hand, "Guys, Lydia just broke another third of the list."
"Am I on it?" Liam quizzed.
"No," Stiles answered, shaking his head and looking at Scott and Kira, "But someone else is...Brett."
Scott sprinted off into the school with Elena following behind, "Scott, wait!" She shouted, not being used to all this running they do in this damn town. The alpha ignored her request as he sped up his pace, leaving Elena behind.
Once the brunette finally managed to catch up, she quietly walked into the school, walking carefully towards the boy's locker room as she saw the trainer's body lying in front of the door. However, she jogged over as soon as she heard Violet's voice, "He said we shouldn't try. But now I've got you. I got an Alpha."
Elena kicked the back of Violet's knee, making her drop her weapon and letting Scott break free. The alpha turned to face the other assassin, backhanding her across the face and knocking her out, "Bitch." The huntress muttered as a proud smile grew on Scott's face.
Realization finally sets in once Elena remembers who she was initially there for, "Brett!" She shouted, running over to the boy who was sprawled out across the dirty locker room floor. She crouched down next to him, checking to see if he had a pulse. "Oh thank god." She mumbles as she feels his blood pumping through his veins.
Stiles and Marcos then come stumbling in, taking in the scene in front of them. Stiles concerned about the passed out girl lying on the floor, and Marcos concern being his sister cradling a werewolf. However, snapping them both out of there thoughts was Scott as he turned to face his best friend, "I think you better call your Dad."
