CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT:
LIGHTS WILL GUIDE YOU HOME

Elena groggily stirs awake, her head spinning as she tries to look around the room she was in. Her eyes widen when she sees herself strapped down onto a metal table, causing another wave of deja vu to hit her almost instantly. Her memories of the Dread Doctors coming to mind when she sees the same manacles placed onto her hands.

"Look who's finally awake," Valack says, walking into the room again but this time with Lydia in his grasp. The Martin girl tries to get out of his hold but ultimately fails since she is still too weak to fight back.

He places Lydia in a chair next to the huntress, strapping the strawberry blonde down just like he did to Elena before placing red patches onto both sides of her head. The Calavera girl's head instantly turns when she hears footsteps enter the room. She rolls her eyes after making eye contact with her mom.

"Now that's no way to treat your mother," She jokes, grabbing a chair and sitting beside her daughter. "Why don't we catch up on what we've missed in each other's lives? Hm?" She asks, earning no response her Elena as she inhales sharply.

Rosanna throws her hands in the air, "Fine, I'll start." She pauses, bringing her hands back down before rubbing her palms onto her black jeans, "I've been trapped in this mental institution for almost seven years. All because I have the ability to see and predict the future." As soon as those words left Rosanna's mouth, Elena instantly focuses on the rest of the conversation.

"A seer is what they call it. It's why my eyes will go completely white as I look up towards the ceiling which only happens when I've had a vision," The Calavera woman tells her, causing the huntress to furrow her eyebrows that her mother instantly notices, "It's why I knew I had to turn you into The Scarlet Witch. Because if I didn't, you and all your friends would've been dead."

"Despite what you want to believe, I did this in order to protect you, Elena. I knew you would've been the only one who could've handle this, especially with your new found family by your side," She pauses, glancing towards Lydia who was already looking and listening in on the Calavera's conversation.

Rosanna shifts her gaze back to her daughter, her eyebrows slightly furrowing as she spoke, "Which is why I'm a little confused as to why you're still with Theo after what he did to you and your friends."

"What are you talking about?" Elena asks, her tone full of confusion which instantly catches her mother's attention.

"You don't know?" Rosanna questions back, earning a slow head shake from the huntress and causing a laugh to escape the older Calavera woman's lips, "He was also apart of the Dread Doctors plan. He manipulated your group of friends in order to steal Scott's power and become the alpha." She pauses, watching the huntress eyes widen as she takes in this piece of news, "And it looks like he manipulated you the most."

Rosanna notices Valack drawing up a needle with the same red serum she used to give her daughter, "Well, looks like our reunion is going to be cut short." She tells Elena, making the Calavera girl furrow her eyebrows as Valack hands her mother the injection.

"Because this is going to hurt." Rosanna states, sticking the needle into Elena's arm and injecting it into her body. As soon as she does so a scream to escapes from the huntress's lips as her eyes begin to flash between her normal brown and the unfamiliar red. Her mind began to flash images of her memories in hopes of restoring them until she finally passed out again.

Brett's ears instantly perk up after hearing Elena's scream echo from below. He turns towards Liam and Scott as the three rush down a flight of stairs in search of the hellhound, Jordan Parrish. The three instantly jump back when they run into Adriana Calavera, "Where's Parrish?" The McCall boy asks, glancing behind her shoulder to see if the deputy was with her.

Adriana slowly shakes her head, "I'm not sure. He went all Hellhound on me and then came inside. I tried chasing after him but I lost him when all the fights broke out with the Chimera pack." She tells the boys, causing Scott to glance back at Liam and Brett. A groan is heard from behind the werewolves, making the four look at each other before rushing down to check who it was.

Their eyes widen when they see Parrish sitting on the floor, his eyes closed as he rest his head against the wall. Adriana crouches down beside the deputy, tapping his face lightly as Scott spoke up, "Parrish? Parrish. Parrish. Parrish, hey. Can you hear me?" He asks which causes the Hellhound to slowly stir awake.

"How did I get here?" He asks, earning shrugs from everyone as Liam steps forward to answer the deputy.

"We don't know. We just followed the burning smell and heard you groan in pain," The beta explains, causing the Hellhound to raise his eyebrows before slowly nodding his head.

Scott places a hand on the deputy's shoulder, trying to get everyone back on track to the plan to rescue their two friends, "Parrish, listen. Eichen's in lockdown. Our plan somewhat messed up. And there's no way for us to get out unless Plan B works."

Parrish furrows his eyebrows before asking, "Plan B? What's Plan B?"

The McCall boy slowly shakes his head, Don't worry about it. Right now, we need you to find Lydia."

"And hopefully Elena too," Brett mumbles, his tone full of worry and concern which causes Adriana to look at the werewolf as she slowly nods her head in agreement to his words.

"Me?" The deputy questions back, not sure how he would be of any help in this situation.

Liam kneels down next to Adriana, "Actually, not completely you." He pauses, earning furrowed eyebrows from the deputy which causes the beta to continue, "We kind of need the other you."

Adriana makes eye contact with Parrish before adding, "The Hellhound."

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

Meanwhile, Stiles, Marcos, and Theo were in the tunnels below Eichen House, trying their best to locate the banshee and the huntress after hearing them scream. The Stilinski boy groans when he goes down the same tunnel again, running into the Raeken and Calavera boy as he does so.

Marcos slowly shakes his head while Theo spoke up, "Nothing." He tells him, making the human boy throw his hands in the air.

"Great, you're just as useless as us," He mumbles, motioning towards himself and Marcos as he refers to them being powerless and not having supernatural abilities to locate the girl's any easier.

A sigh escapes the Raeken boy's mouth before adding, "I'm trying to help save their lives." He mumbles, concern and worry lacing in his voice, mainly for the huntress.

Stiles rolls his eyes, looking directly at the Chimera when he spoke, "Would you just drop the altruistic crap? You want Lydia because she gets you to Parrish, you want Parrish because he gets you to the Beast, and you want Elena because she'll help Parrish defeat the Beast."

"So what? I want it dead, too," Theo states, making Marcos raise his eyebrows before he spoke.

"After you take its power, right?" The Calavera boy pauses, watching the Raeken boy slowly nod in response but doesn't say anything which causes the hunter to continue, "We know why you got the talons and we know you're looking for Deucalion."

A dry chuckle escapes Theo's mouth before finally responding, "I found Deucalion. You're right. I'm going to help Parrish and Elena stop the Beast. I'm going to take its power. And then I'm going to break its neck. So maybe I'm not the good guy in your eyes, but I might end up being the guy that saves all your asses."

Stiles and Marcos share a look with one another, both of them only having one thing on their minds. And that is to find Elena and Lydia. The Stilinski boy slowly turns his attention back towards Theo before mumbling, "Break it."

The Chimera furrows his eyebrows, not understanding what he's trying to say, "What?" He questions back, his tone full of confusion which causes Marcos to step forward as he motions towards the sewer pipe.

"The sound travels through the pipe," He explains, earning a dumbfounded look from the Raeken boy's which causes Marcos to inhale sharply before adding, "You'll hear better, dumbass. Break it." Theo nods as he winds his fist up to punch the sewer pipe, breaking it in half which makes him lean in to hear.

"Lydia? Elena? Can you girls hear me?" Dr.Valack whispers, causing both girl's eyes to instantly shoot open. A dull, throbbing pain pulsed behind the Calavera girls eyes, creeping down her temples like a relentless tide. Elena slowly looks around, her mother nowhere in sight while her eyes widen as all the emotions and memories come flooding back into her mind.

She remembers everything about everyone, how her sister is back in her life, how she's slowly recovered from Allison's death with the help of her new friends, but most importantly, she remembers Brett. She remembers when they first met and how he saved her life. She remembers how he was there for her after leaving most of her family back home in Mexico. And she remembers the kiss they shared when she was dying. She remembers it all.

The banshee turns her head to look at the huntress, noticing her facial expressions showing signs of reminiscence before focusing her attention back on Valack, "What do you want from us?" She asks, her tone full of confusion and worry at what his plans were for her and her friend.

"I want your guys help against the Dread Doctors," He pauses, looking down to his equipment before continuing, "They ruined me. Destroyed me. They drove me to obsession, consigned me to professional ridicule. People thought I was a monster when I was simply trying to open their eyes."

Elena furrows her eyebrows, snapping back into reality after hearing Valack's reasoning for doing this to them, "Now you want us to be your eyes?"

Valack slowly nods, motioning towards the banshee, "Lydia will see things. Things no one else can see." He pauses, focusing his attention back towards the Calavera girl, "And you, Elena, will be my secret weapon against them. You'll finally have enough power to defeat the Beast all by yourself."

The man turns his back to the girls, messing with something on his side table before adding, "You guys may not survive, but you might save the lives of your friends. We have to slow your mind first. There's too much activity in your brain. We have to get from a gamma wave to a theta."

Both girls wince at the sudden sound, the ear piercing noise making it impossible to concentrate, "It's too loud. We can't." Lydia mumbles, noticing the huntress tightly shut her eyes with her fist trying to clench inside the manacles that were still wrapped onto them.

A frustrated sigh escapes Valack's lips before telling them, "If I try the mask on you now, it will kill you. And if I put the crown on her, it will drive her mad. You guys have to calm your mind." He pauses, thinking of something that could help the girl's concentrate, "Do you understand what they've created?"

"The Beast," Elena mumbles out, opening her eyes to send daggers towards Valack as he nods at her words

"The Beast of Gevaudan. An engineered version of it. But it's not yet fully grown. It's still bound to its host, the teenage Chimera inside. And it still requires the Dread Doctors protection," He pauses, motioning to the huntress when he continues, "Especially from you."

Lydia slowly shakes her head, disregarding the man's comment towards her friends as she mutters, "Damnatio Memoriae."

Valack nods his head, "That's right. The Beast was a man first. A human killer in the late 1700s alongside The Scarlet Witch. The Dread Doctors are trying to get it to remember itself. To remember the man. When that happens, the teenager is gone. This teenager is the last Genetic Chimera. A young man or a young woman, maybe even someone you know. A success where Theo, Elena, and the others were failures."

The huntress rolls her eyes at Valacks last comment while Lydia spoke up, "But we went through the list of Genetic Chimeras. There's no one else."

"There must be one you missed. Another way they could have two sets of DNA. If you could see the face of this teenager, discover its identity, it would give Elena the advantage she needs. The mask can help you see. And once you see, I can put the crown on her to increase her abilities in order to defeat the Beast once and for all," Valack tells her, however, before he can say anything else a voice spoke out from behind the door.

"Lydia!" Stiles yells as Theo tries hitting the door down to rescue the two girls, "Elena!" The Stilinski boy adds in hopes the huntress would be in there as well.

After multiple failed attempts from the Chimera, Marcos snaps his head to look at him as he angrily asks, "What the hell are you doing? Get the door." He demands, causing the Raeken boy to snap his head back to look at him.

"I'm trying!" Theo shouts, frustration and concern lacing in his words as he hits the door again.

Valack turns back towards his side table, grabbing the mask, "I'm sorry. But time's up." He tells the banshee, causing an ear deafening scream to instantly leave Lydia's mouth. Elena tightly shuts her eyes, the scream so loud she could feel her ears start to bleed. After Lydia was done, the Calavera girl opens her eyes to see Valack's body lying on the floor, blood oozing out of his head.

Before the two girl's can say anything else, the door barges open to reveal their savior's. Stiles instantly runs towards the Martin girl while Marcos and Theo sprint to the huntress. The Raeken boy grabs the key to unlock the manacles on Elena's hands, and as soon as they were off, she slaps him across the face.

Theo stands in shock, his jaw hanging open while the Calavera boy's eyes widen at his sister's actions, "I'm done helping you." She tells him, making the Chimera finally piece together that she had her memories back. Theo slowly nods his head, guilt showing all over his face as he takes a step back.

Stiles takes the stuff off of Lydia's head, motioning towards himself and Marcos before saying, "We're getting you guys out of here, okay?" He says, earning nods from both girls as the two human boys help them to their feet and quickly make their way out of the room which leaves Theo all alone yet again. He glances down to Valack's body, noticing the mask and the crown beside him. Theo can feel the power radiating off both items which ultimately leads to his decision in taking them.

The group of four turns a corner in the tunnels, Marcos and Elena leading while Stiles and Lydia struggle to keep up, "Okay. You gotta try and stay on your feet. The plan didn't work out too well. So I'm gonna need your help, okay?" The Stilinski boy announces, making the huntress laugh slightly.

"You had a plan?" Elena questions, her tone full of skepticism and disbelief as she glances between her brother and Stiles.

Marcos slowly nods his head, "Yeah. It was good on paper. Not too much in reality." He jokes, earning a small smile from his sister while they continue their journey through the tunnel.

The group goes through a door, causing a groan to escape from Lydia's mouth as she falls to her knees and makes her friends stop in their tracks before turning around to face her, "I can't hold it." She tells them, holding her head with both her hands as Elena, Stiles, and Marcos share a look with one another before glancing back to the banshee.

The Stilinski boy crouches down to be eye level with the strawberry blonde, "Lydia-." He begins but is quickly cut off by the Martin girl.

"Guys, run!" She instructs but before any of them can do anything, they are instantly pulled back by Parrish, Brett, Scott, Adriana, and Liam as Lydia lets out another ear deafening scream. However, the Hellhound wraps his arms around the banshee to conceal it.

Brett's eyes instantly soften when he sees the huntress standing there, "You okay?" He asks, stepping forward and cupping the Calavera girl's face in his hands.

A sad smile forms on Elena's lips as she wraps her arms around his neck, bringing him into a tight huh, "Thank you." She mumbles, referring to when even though she didn't have her memories of him, he still managed to fight for her and to make sure she didn't end up like the abomination she was created to be. He kept her grounded.

The two slowly pull away from each other when they hear the screaming come to a stop. Their eyes widen as they see Parrish hold the Martin girl in his arms before asking, "Where to?"

The pack looks at the Hellhound with amazement, a proud smile forming on all of their lips at his abilities, "This way." Scott instructs, causing the Talbot boy to grab Elena's hand as the pack follows the alpha down the rest of the tunnel.

After finally exiting Eichen House, Elena stands next to Marcos and Brett as Malia and Kira come speeding down the stairs in front of the mental institution and heading towards the Jeep, "Are they okay?" The Tate girl asks, her gaze shifting between the banshee and the huntress.

The Calavera girl offers Malia a small smile while nodding as Stiles shakes his head before motioning towards the Martin girl, "Lydia's not, we need to go." He says, holding his hand out before he continues, "Give me the keys. We gotta get her to the clinic."

Everyone jumps back as they watch Parrish fall forward in pain. Adriana catches the deputy before he can land on the ground, "What the hell?" She mumbles, causing the pack to whip their heads around to see Tracy holding onto a frighten Lydia.

"Sorry, but she's coming with me," The Stewart girl tells them, her eyebrows furrowing when she sees the Calavera girl standing with them, "And you're supposed to be on our side, Elena."

The huntress slowly steps forward, causing the rest of the pack's eyes to widen at her actions, "Okay, Tracy, just wait." She pleads, making the Stewart girl's grip tighten around the strawberry blonde as Elena inches closer, "Theo hasn't told you guys the full story. You don't know what's about to happen." She explains, earning an eye roll from the Chimer before she spoke.

"I'm taking her. That's what's happening. And none of are you going to do a thing-." Tracy gasps as something strikes her in the back which causes her to fall onto the ground. Elena pulls Lydia towards her as she looks up to see Natalie Martin standing there with a taser in hand.

"Could somebody please get my daughter out of this hellhole?" Natalie asks, making Elena and Stiles carefully help Lydia into the backseat of the Jeep as Scott gets into the front. The huntress shuts the door which causes the alpha to instantly speed off towards the clinic.

The Calavera girl watches the Jeep disappear into the distance, worrisome eyes watching in hopes that Lydia would be okay. Elena quickly stumbles back when she feels a pair of arms wrap around her waist. The brunette smiles softly when she see's Liam giving her a hug, "It's good to have you back." He mumbles, earning nods in agreement from everyone as they all join in on the group hug. Elena smiles softly at their gesture, thankful to be back with her friends and family.
