daniel ricciardo

MADELYN GRINNED AS SHE HEARED OSCAR GASP. They were walking around the track, and the boy was in awe of everything. He was wearing a band new Daniel Ricciardo Number 3 Cap which Madelyn had brought for him, and had his Silverstone pass swinging around his neck.

They were heading towards the Paddock, ready for him to drive around with Ricciardo, and he was ecstatic. He could here different cars going around the circuit, Porsches, Jaguars, Mercedes, even Mclarens and Ferraris.

He couldn't wait to get in the car himself and speed around the track. Madelyn was excited for him, but also nervous. The thought of her baby brother speeding around a fast track, in a fast car, with a fast driver scared her slightly. But this Daniel Ricciardo would know what he was doing.

She hoped.

They got to the Paddock Gate and showed security their passes. They let them through, and Madelyn took Oscar's tickets out of her pocket one more time to check she had them. When she was reassured, she replaced them, and the pair continued walking towards the section of the paddock, dedicated to the Hot Laps.

They were greeted by an older man with a clipboard. "Hi there! Wleocme to Silverstone! You two got a Hot Lap booked in?" he asked in a welcoming voice.

Madelyn and gestured to Oscar. "I've booked my brother in for one under the name Madelyn Craft?"

The man looked down at his clipboard, scanning it muttering "M. Craft, M. Craft." He spotted a name and pointed towards it. "Ah! There you are. Oh you're right on time! Just this way if you would." he said as he began to walk ahead of them leading then to where they were supposed to be.

He talked to Oscar as they walked. "So you'll be meeting Daniel Ricciardo! You a big fan?"

Oscar nodded frantically. "He's my favourite driver ever." he said proudly, whilst pointing at his cap.

Madelyn smiled at the interactions. The man with the clipboard smiled too. "Daniel is the best at Hot Laps. I'll tell you this, he's definitely the fastest."

At this, Oscar's face lit up, whilst Madelyn's fell slightly. She began to feel nervous for him again. It was just her big sister instincts kicking in, but all of a sudden she was quiet scared to let him in the car.

The man noticed her reaction, and whispered to her as for Oscar not to hear. "It's alright, you can tell him how to handle the car. He's gentle with kids anyways. He'll be okay."

Madelyn nodded slightly, knowing that she'd be able to talk to Daniel about how to take it.

They reached the area and the man with the clipboard spun in his heel."This is it! Daniel will come out in a little to meet you both, before you go into a little saftey breifing. Do you need anything before I go back."

"No we're okay. Thank you so much." Madelyn said as the man began to walk away.

"No problem! Have fun out there!"

Oscar waved to the man as he left, shouting goodbye. He turned to the sound of a door opening and his mouth dropped.

Daniel Ricciardo stood in the doorway, curls falling down his face slightly, a big grin on his face. "Hi!" he said, his Aussie accent strong.

Oscar didn't say anything, his mouth still hanging open. Madelyn nuged his back slightly edging him forward. Oscar walked towards Daniel, who crouched down infront of him so they were at the same level. "I'm Daniel. What's your name?"

"I'm Oscar." He was very nervous. His hero was rood infront of him, and he seemed to be starstruck.

Daniel held his hand out for Oscar to shake. "Nice to meet you Oscar." he said.

Madelyn was surprised at how human he seemed. Most celebrities she knew of were very big headed and egotistical in real life, bur Daniel seemed quite genuine.

Oscar shook Daniel's hand and grinned. He seemed to have come over his initial shock of standing infront of his hero, and was back to his usual bubbly self. "Do you know what car you're taking me around in?" he asked eagerly.

Daniel put on a face of lock thoughtfulness. "If I remember rightly, I believe we're driving the Mercedes GTR AMG. Just don't tell my boss." he added jokingly.

Oscar let out a gasp. "That's what they use for the saftey cars!" he said knowingly.

Daniel's eyes widened slightly at the little boy. "You know your stuff kid. I'm impressed." Oscar grinned to himself, proud he'd impressed his hero.

Daniel finally looked up from Oscar to Madelyn. It took him a few seconds before he spoke. "And who's this?" he asked Oscar.

Oscar turned and smiled broadly at Madelyn. "That's my sister Madelyn, but everyone calls her Maddy or Mads." Oscar turned to Daniel, and attempted to whisper, but was in fact incredibly loud. "She's the best ever."

Daniel smiled at Madelyn over the top of Oscar's head. He looked back down at Oscar and was about to say something until a worker popped his head through the door. "Oscar Craft for a saftey briefing?"

Oscar turned and began to walk towards the worker, as did Madelyn but the worker stopped her. "Sorry Ma'am, just Oscar."

Madelyn frowned at him, "He's only eight, I'm not letting him go by himself."

The worker shrugged. "It's just the rules Ma'am."

Madelyn went to argue, but stopped herself. She didn't want to get angry infront of Oscar ; it reminded him too much of their mother. "Fine."

She turned to her brother and crouched down. "You be good okay? Listen to everything they say, and make sure you know what to do."

Oscar nodded. Madelyn gave him a weak smile and kissed the top of his head, before he walked off with the worker. Madelyn began to tap her foot nervously. Daniel noticed." Hey, " he got her attention,"He'll be okay, they've never lost a kid before." he joked.

He thought it would get a smile out of her, but instead he got a glare. "That's not comforting. At all."

Daniel widened his eyes. "Sorry, I didn't mean to unease you." Madelyn just looked to where Oscar and the worker had dissapered too and began to bite her nails.

Daniel sighed. He didn't know why, but he didn't like the fact she would talk to him. "So you're the best sister apparently."

Madelyn sighed, turning to him. "According to my brother." she said firmly.

Daniel nodded his head. "So, you got him this experience?"

Maddy nodded her head. "Yeah, I saved up for ages. Got it for his birthday."

Daniel nodded. "That's cool. So, are you just here together? Or are your parents around somewhere?" he said, not realising he'd hit a touchy subject.

Madelyn's breath hitched in her throat as she turned back to where Oscar and the worker had walked away. "No, just Oscar and I." she said, attempting to keep her voice monotone.

Daniel's eyes widened when he realised he'd hit a bad subject and immediately apologised. "I'm sorry, I didn't realise that wasn't a good-"

"Don't worry, we get it all the time." Madelyn dismissed automatically.

Daniel cleared his throat and changed the subject. "So, Oscar's birthday you said? Just been or coming up?"

Madelyn didn't know why Daniel kept trying to make conversation. He didn't know her and she didn't know him. Nevertheless, she answered his question. "Sunday actually. We're here for the whole weekend."

Daniel smiled. "Where are you guys sitting?" he asked. Madelyn let out a laugh of some sort. "Sitting? No, I couldn't afford that. We're going to find somewhere to stand."

Daniel frowened slightly. Even though he'd met them five minutes ago, he didn't like the idea of them standing up throughout Free Practise, Qualifying and the Race. He was about to say something before Oscar came back into the room.

Madelyn's face instantly lit up when he came back. "Hey buddy!"

Oscar walked up to Madelyn. "They gave me a helmet!" he said, showing Madelyn the helmet in his hands. "Will you put it on for me?"

Madelyn nodded. "Sure."

Daniel spoke up, "You can do it on the track whilst I get the car ready of you want. I've got to grab it from the garage so you can do it as I drive it up."

Madelyn nodded, taking the helmet from Oscar, and holding his hand as they followed Daniel out onto the track. He showed them where to wait before he jogged off to find the car.

Madelyn crouched down and placed the helmet onto Oscar's head, tilting it upwards so she could do the strap underneath. "You'll be good for Daniel in the car yeah?" she asked as she adjusted the strap slightly.

"Promise." Oscar said. Once Madelyn had finished adjusting his helmet, she smiled at him. Oscar wrapped his arms around Madelyn's middle, giving her a big hug. "You're the best sister ever."

Madelyn placed her chin on top of the helmet and gave Oscar a big squeeze. The rev of an engine caught both their attention, as Daniel pulled up in the car beside them. He got out and gestured to it. "Well what do you think Oscar?"

Oscar's face was plastered with the biggest smile Madelyn had ever seen. He stared in awe and immediately ran towards the car, examining it.

Madelyn smiled as she watched her brother fan girl over the car, and her nerves calmed slightly. Oscar jumped into the passenger seat and strapped himself in. Before Daniel sat back in the drivers seat, he looked over at Madelyn. "I'll bring him back in one piece." he said before winking.

Mad's stomach dropped. As the car drove away she shouted at Daniel, not that he could hear her. "That's not comforting Ricciardo!" She sighed as she saw the car drive through the pitlane. "Oh god." she muttered. "My brother's going to die."

Madelyn had been biting her nails the whole time Oscar was in the car. Daniel had taken him around for an extra lap, much to Oscar's enjoyment. Madelyn however, was not enjoying watching her brother being practically thrown around high speed corners. She had no clue how the girlfriends and wives of these drivers could cope with their their partners driving around like that for a living.

The car pulled back into the pitlane and Madelyn walked over to make sure Oscar was okay. She began to panic when Oscar came out, holding his arm, wincing. Daniel had a scared look on his face.

Madelyn sprinted up to Oscar and crouched down to his height. "Oscar are you okay? What happened?" She glared up at Daniel. "What did you do?"

Daniel looked from Madelyn to Oscar. The two boys looked at eachother, and burst out laughing.

Madelyn poked her cheek with her tounge when she realised that Oscar had been faking a pain in his arm. She stood up to her full height and smiled at Daniel sarcasticly. "Funny. You two think if that in the car did you?"

Daniel nodded, still chuckling. "Mate you were right, her reaction was priceless." he said to Oscar. The two high - fived and Madelyn turned to Oscar unimpressed. "You're idea was it?"

Before Oscar could answer Daniel cut in, "No, it was my idea, Oscar just told me how you'd react. This was all me." he said defending the young boy.

Madelyn turned back to him. "You're a bad influence Daniel Ricciardo."

Daniel shrugged slightly, still smiling. "Sorry."

Madelyn just rolled her eyes at him and crouched back down infront of Oscar. "Please don't do that again okay? You really scared me O."

Oscar seemed to realise his sister's reaction hadn't been what he was expecting after all. "Sorry Mads."

"Hey, it's okay buddy. Just-" she took a deap breath. "It's okay." Madelyn said. Oscar moved forward and wrapped his arms around Madelyn, as way of an apology. Madelyn returned the hug, and stared up at Daniel. He gave her an apologetic look, but she just mouthed up at him, "Not cool."

Daniel sighed and gave her an apologetic look, but Madelyn just ignored him.

When she pulled away from the hug she changed her expression and smiled at Oscar. "Did you have fun though?"

Oscar's face lit up again. "Mhm! Daniel went super fast. I felt like I was in an F1 car! It was awesome."

Madelyn spun him around so he was facing Daniel. "What do you say?"

Oscar nodded, understanding what she meant. "Thank you Daniel." he said politely.

Daniel smiled at the young boy. "No worries. Any time mate."

Madelyn turned Oscar back around and gestured towards the exit. "Come on, we better go if we want to find good spots for practise."

Oscar nodded, and started to walk towards the exit, giving Daniel one last wave goodbye. Madelyn went to follow after him, but Daniel called her back. "Maddy."

She turned around and sighed. "Oscar wait there a minute!" she called out before turning back to Daniel. "It's Madelyn." she corrected. Maddy was a nickname reserved for Oscar, and Oscar only.

Daniel pursed his lips still slightly annoyed at how hostile she was being with him. "Right. Listen, I just thought, maybe, if you wanted to do something for Oscar's birthday, you could watch the Quali and the Race from inside the Renault garage."

Madelyn wasn't expecting that. "I-Β  what?"

Daniel smiled at her slightly. "We couldn't do it today, but tommorow if you come to the Renault garage at say 11, I can get you in and he can watch from inside. Just a thought."

Madelyn frowned. "You've known us all of 10 minutes and now you're offering us seats in the Renault garage? Why?"

Daniel shrugged. "He seems like a good kid. And I hate the fact you don't seem to like me." He said, giving her a serious look.

Madley rolled her eyes slightly. "Yeah well, you don't seem like a very good role model to me Ricciardo." she said folding her arms.

Daniel sighed. "Well, give me one more chance to prove to you I can be. I'll. meet you at the gate at 11."

"I don't know if I can accept the offer-"

"Good thing I'm not asking." Daniel said, but his voice wasn't harsh. Madelyn sighed and weighed her options around. Even if she couldn't stand Daniel, seeing the Race from inside an F1 garage would be Oscar's dream.

"Thank you." she said quietly. Daniel nodded his head towards her, giving her a large grin. She gave him a small smile before walking towards where Oscar was stood. She gave him a large smile and picked him up, placing him on her shoulders.

Daniel watched them as they left listening to Oscar's giggles and gasps of disbelief as Madelyn told him where they would be watching the race. He smiled to himself sadly. Daniel had always wanted a family of his own, but he knew his chances were slipping away rapidly.

He didn't know why he had become so attached to Oscar in the space of ten minutes, but Oscar was a very easy kid to like.

He was still hung up on Madelyn too. She was very hard to read, and it was frustrating him that she didn't like him. Daniel was intreaged by her. There was no point in lying, he found her rather attractive too.

He sighed before closing the car door, and heading off to find Nico to have a chat with before Practise.
